Newcastle Sign Third Frenchman In Three Days

7:50 pm, Thursday, January 24th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 538 Comments

For the third day in a row, Newcastle have announced the signing of a French player – and today it is 20 year-old
France under-21 international left back Massadio Haïdara.

Massadio Haïdara.

Massadio Haïdara – sings for Newcastle will wear number 19

The left-back comes in from Nancy and he is a big powerful player with lots of speed – something that we lack in the back four at the moment.

And with Toulouse announcing on their web-site that Moussa Sissoko has signed today for Newcastle – maybe we’ll announce four signings in four days tomorrow, when the Sissoko signing could be announced.

Now to get Ricky van Wolfswinkel in by Saturday to keep the streak going! :D

The Trappes-born youngster made more than 50 appearances for Nancy, and he is currently one of France’s top young talents.

This is what Massadio had to say after his signing:

“It was the desire of the club to sign me up which was the most important factor.” “It was nothing to do with the league position.”

“It was really all about the club’s desire and willingness to sign me up. Also, I like the club’s ambition to strengthen the whole team so we can improve our league position. That’s what appealed to me so I didn’t hesitate.”

And Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew had this to say about  his fourth new player this month:

”Massadio is very highly-thought of in France and he’s somebody who our scouting team have been greatly impressed by.”

“At the age of 20, he will only continue to get better but he’s already played a lot of games in his country’s top division and represented France at under-19, under-20 and under-21 level.”

“He’s strong and quick and we’re looking forward to seeing him develop here.”

Massadio is another excellent signing by Newcastle this month – and our club is not finished yet.

And while the club made a big mistake in not strengthening the squad in the summer – a big mistake – they are now doing their level best to put that mistake right.

Hopefully we’ll still get even more players through the door before next Thursday – here’s hoping.

Comments welcome.

Don’t bother with rvw. Go up and down the English lower leagues and find a cheap hard working striker. Jon Walters type that doesn’t mind sitting on the bench but when called upon, gives it his all and more. That’s good enough for me.

  • 4 Ben_BKK // Jan 24, 2013 at 7:54 PM

You’ve done your best to make it hard for us to get on this article, Ed, there’s no header link! :P

Great news though, further strengthens the defence and could we possibly see Santon pushed further upfield? Like a few others I think he could be more effective on the wing, he’d definitely be better than Jonas if you ask me!

Now for Sissoko and possibly another striker, but it’s already probably been our best transfer window that I can remember. Sissoko especially is an incredible signing, one I never thought I’d see us making! An absolute beast of a player that’ll give us one of the best central midfields in the league.

I know ketsbaia is a WUM but to be honest I kind of agree with him about man utd, their squad isnt better than ours… sure van persie and rooney are better than cisse, but our goalkeeper, defence, and midfield are better.

    the diffrence is the manager.
if we get wenger (and we won’t) i really believe we can finish top 3 with this squad

    BENNY.
    Bobby
Gouffran can play there but doesnt naturally, thats not really good enough. Look at our season so far we can get upfield but final ball is Cat. With benny on one side and someone like Mertens on the left we wud be a top side as we are so sloid in CM. WE have 3 strikers not one left winger.

  • 36 ben10arfa // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:07 PM

I still think we need a Striker

and if Collicini leaves we need another centre half.

We need to make sure with Steven Taylor being so injury prone that we keep Williamson as far away from the team as possible otherwise we will go down.

  • 48 israeli_fan // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:11 PM

RVW isnt what we need, we need a player like owen (in his prime).

if we can get shane long i will be delighted.. underated player

  • 49 roblee7 // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:11 PM

any info on this guy Thauvin? I’ll hold my hands up and say I know nothing about him. Is he a striker?

Also, you guys think Haidara is a first team signing or a back up? Another i know nothing about but still excited!! I still think we’ll sign a big money striker, despite the other signings I’d be disappointed if we didn’t as not sure Gouffran and Cisse are enough, espeially if Cisse doesn’t improve, we could still be down there come end of season as need goalscorers desperado

  • 55 Newcastle for alltid // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:12 PM

Something just came to mind: This season I didn’t have the spare money to spend on our new home kit right away when it launched. This dragged on and on, and I felt that I couldn’t support the lads properly – while results was getting worse and worse.
A little over a week ago I finally ordered the home kit, as I though “Fcuk the money, I’ll just do it” So I ordered it. Now, a few days later, three new signings and an imminent fourth is upon us, and it’s all happy days.
So now I feel partially responsible for all these transfers, and strongly believe that my 40 pounds was the money that tipped it over for Ashley so that he could say “Fcuk yeah! Well, now we can safely spend some money without worrying too much, thanks heavens”
So yeah, everything is fine now.

No excuses now Mr Pardew. You’ve finally got a top squad assembled (I say pardew, i mean Carr as i believe pardew has very little input in to signings)

Now keep us up and lets kick on next year! I still believe we need another striker/forward and a centre half if colo does go (Douglas in the summer for free?)

However Im still worried that we’re going to lose a player this transfer window to help fund these deals and I doubt we’ll spend any money in the summer!

    Repost:

cockneymag – haha, I’m with you on Fifa man, I just started playing ’13 again for the first time since November and the update last night gave me Debuchy but no Mbiwa- does it update at the end of the week or something? Fifa can’t keep up with our signings.

Also agree with you on Amalfitano. He looks class. In his glimpses he’s looked calm and far better than Sammi and his motley crue.

While we’re on the subject of Fifa – if anyone has a PS3 and fancies a game tonight – COCKNEY? – I’ll be on from about 11pm and my PSN is velveteer.

yorkymag since we bought cabaye and linked to 20 french players ewvery window i began to watch the french leauge on a regular basis.. he has the potential to become world class, but don’t think he will be as good as vieira, who is for me was 1 of the best ever.

he is a slightly better version of diame, who i rate very highly

  • 66 alf // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:21 PM

Tim Krul’s 5/2 to sign for AC Milan so it makes sense they’ll be after Butland cos Elliott’s a pile of crap.

  • 68 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:21 PM

Moonraker – Agree with most of what you said in your reply on the previous article although i think for many its not hindsight. We have been crying out for a cb for ages and everyone wanted one in the summer. Many wanted a backup striker after losing Best and Lovenkrands and also an attacking fullback. Not hindsight for me but you are correct, its hard to criticise on the back of three signings in three days. If the man signs sissoko and another striker i would be very grateful and would find it hard not to sing his name if a comical chant broke out. Put it this way he is more likely to splash out again if we’re chanting in his favour as opposed to the fcb chant. Hope Pardew can get the lads playing. No more jonas or Willo in the 11 please

Those who knock Amalfitano and say hes out of his depth blah blah blah dont have a clue!

Iv actually wanted to see more of him and when he has had the odd ten mins hes impressed and look sharp.

I think Pardew is taking his time with this guy and hasnt totally gained trust in him yet as hes only young. (You know what Pardews like).

Deffinately one for the future and would be stupid to let him go!

Id let him go out on loan to get some playing time if anything.

Dont doubt this kid, mark my word!

If AP wants to lift some pressure off him he has to have the new lads all involved at Villa otherwise he could find himself being quizzed by MA who will argue that he has gone and put the money on the table to bring in better players than AP has not had the opportunity to do so of late.
All these lads have been playing regular football at their respective clubs before signing so IMO if they do not all make a debut and (god forbid) we lose at Villa AP is there to be rightly shot at. My 11 at Villa would be:-
    Krul
    Debuchy
    Mbwia
    Colo
    Haidara
    Anita
Sissoko (he will sign in time)
    Cabaye
    Santon (left side)
    Marveaux (right side)
    Cisse

    Subs:-
    Elliott
    Saylor
    Jonas
    Goufran
    Obertan
    Bigi

    Formation of 1-4-2-3-1.
A failure on APs part to not put them straight in will then confirm his managerial incompetence. PS if Shola gets anywhere near the 16 man squad at Villa I would sack AP instantly if I was MA.

since the end of last season, smith guthrie best and lovers and then ba 5 out 5(inc anita) in so our small squad has not increased so we need to get get sissoko in so we have the same squad size i woukd still like a c/b in someone over 6ft would be great but to be honest the quality of the new ones is better than the ones who have left except maybe ba trouble could be the quality of pardew

  • 90 Robby Bobson // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:37 PM

So realistically how will everyone settle?…me opinon

Gouffran – will be like leon best, not turning up roots but reliable – will do a job

Sissoko – come in immediately and start shaking the place up!!

Haidara – Europa this season, will find it hard to displace debuchy or santon for a while

Mbwia – few weeks of over-eagerness, trying to nip in where he cant getting used to the pace and giving alot of free kicks away. Towards end of the season start to see the real force!

  • 91 bollance // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:37 PM

The best 11 players does not always equal the best team….getting these new lads to blend into an effective unit before the villa game might be asking too much.

  • 94 EastEndMagpie // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:42 PM

such positive signs, if we get sissoko and rick v.w.w, then just wow… that is more than what i could have hoped for at the begining of this window, dont know if many of you guys know much about sissoko but he is an absolute beast, saw a comment on here by someone slating a dude who likend hin to viera, thats exactly who i would say he is like, he is strong, quick, powerful, strong in the tackle, a leader, has vision for a great pass, and my favourite, an absolutley blistering shot with both feet, we have needed a player who can piledrive a free kick like this guy!!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ITBvggd3R0

him and tiote next to eachother will be unstoppable… all i can say is fair play to mike ashley… fair f*cking play. if he backs this up with 1 or 2 in the summer and some re-newed contracts for people like cabaye, santon, ben arfa, tiote, krul who should all be top earners now without question, then i may even be fooled into thinking we are seriously going after a top 4 spot!!

so pleased, glad they have realised that the fans have taken a complete pasting this year, glad to see them give us a bit of joy, and with people like mbiwa in the side, who knows? maybe we could do something in the europa? or win a trophy next year?

    optimism is key lads. ;)

    @breno

Id have shola in my squad but never under any circumstances have him as a starter!

Hes pretty good to have if its the last 5/10 mins and we really need a goal. He strong, has good ariel threat and holds the ball up pretty well.

  • 96 Caisleann Nua // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:43 PM

bollance, simmo can run down his deal if he wants to tavernier should be understudy to Debuchy at this stage. He offers far more than simmo. I have a lot of faith in tav pushing debuchy in the next couple of seasons. he has pace is good on the ball, can beat a man just needs to tidy up his positional play and he’ll be classy fullback.

  • 97 sirtoongospel // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:43 PM

Viera was incredible when he was younger and drove forward like Sissoko does. Both better than Essien. Essien cracking player but Viera was something else. He changed as he got older but in his prime he was awesome. We have a player in that mould, what we have missed. Now also we have pace at the back, a left footed LB, a versatile striker, it’s as though we have addressed our weaknesses. Bit by bit we will climb the league.

A win of any description against Villa, then dismantle Chelsea at ours. It will be jumping at that game!!!

  • 98 9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:44 PM

Stunning to see chaps still whingeing over the Jan window and even – believe it or not – already slagging the manager for how he will/will not use all these new players in the very first game available. Good grief!

  • 99 clarkytoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:46 PM

Moussa Sissoko is trending on twitter – people can’t believe we’ve got him for that much money – saying some pretty complimentary stuff about our scouting and negotiation. positive stuff – enjoy it whilst it lasts I say !

  • 100 Caisleann Nua // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:47 PM

@ cockneymag i agree about keeping shola, gives a different option for last 10mins because we don’t have another target man, get one in, (Wolfswinkle is not one) and he can go.

  • 102 beefman13 // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:48 PM

Beattie, Sissoko has said it will be a privaledge to play for le toon, and there fanatastic supporters and that he will give everything for the cause, he also said he would like to thank beefman13 for pusuading me to come to newcastle, and that should not be forgotten as it was the major factor in my arrival.

  • 103 bollance // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:48 PM

    Cockney

Shola is a bit jekyll and Hyde.

Bring him on for 10-15 mins to consolidate possession high up the pitch and he barely puts a foot wrong.

Start him he loses the ball through poor decision making or lack of concentration.

  • 104 Caisleann Nua // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:49 PM

bollance isn’t that the point he’s a decent impact sub only, not a starter

  • 105 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:50 PM

I sometimes look at the website http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk for info on players and their contracts. They’ve got valuations for most of our new recruits and targets.

    Debuchy valued at £12.5m / 14m Euros
    M’biwa at £7.9m / 9m Euros
    Gouffran £6.6m / 7.5m Euros
    Haidara £1.8m / 2m Euros

    Sissoko £8.8m / 10m Euros

Judging by that we’ve found plenty of value with Debuchy, Gouffran and Sissoko when he comes. I expect big things from Sissoko and Mbiwa.

Shola needs to be kept but as a last ten minute man. Brilliant to think that we might actually have options going forward. We are so close to having a brilliant squad now. Also, anyone fancy is for the Europa League?? We might just take some beating over 2 legs as SJP will be rather lively.

  • 112 cockneymagpie90 // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:55 PM

    @Yo-yo

I think hes already pretty good, just hasnt gained full trust in Pardew yet and was always going to be one for the future.

If u slowly ease someone into the first team who is that young with great players around him it will defo make him a better player.

If think thats Pardews specialty as weve seen it with players such as Benarfa and Marvo in the past. It brings the best out of them and thats probably the only thing i can say about Pardew thats of any good as this season i think hes made a catalogue of mistakes.

Youre right with the loan it just depends if they are going to start using him more in the europa league and not risk having one less player who can do a job for the rest of the season.

All of these players were scouted for the summer but Cashley wouldnt authorise the funding, 6 months later, he saves himself about 15mil in transfer fees and 5-7 mil in wages.
Hes no mug, It is a gamble that they gel in the team, but when we climb the table due to a better “Team” ethic and ability, he gets the money he has spent back from the new tv deal, has all the players whos price will mostly double/treble and we can gradually push for top 4.
At this moment in time, its great to be a Geordie.
And to think I was thinking about letting my season tickets finish this season if he let us get relegated (probably wouldnt as I didnt last time) but I was thinking it.

Didn’t get back to u earlier. u suggested we would be taking steps backwards with him in the team. Don’t think AC has the footballing skill of Fellini but AC playing that role with the pace players around him which we now have. I think it would work. Yes I am suggesting for him to drop deeper an play a Rooney type role. Asking a lot.

Don’t follow England football team but know that even out of form and mainly injured there arent that many top English strikers about.

But there are lots of factors against him returning. One important one being there is better value abroad. But he could be our token English man flying the flag as AP would say

Cockney. I’ll probably be on until late too. Anyway, give me an add: velveteer.

BEATTIE – just watched that Sissoko video mate. The guy is unreal. I’m always doubtful of tube footballers but you can tell if they’re rinsing the same shots from lots of angles and if the player is actually as good as the video or if it is pure class. And I have to say, Sissoko oozes class- no video could make those moves up. He has raw power, strength, speed and you know what? He’s really really comfortable on the ball. He can dribble (nothing fancy of course but still turns a man inside out (giggles)), he can tackle but best of all- he knows exactly when to keep running with the ball and when to pass it- watch closely. A lot of players don’t have that decision and innate awareness. For example, Obertan usually takes one touch too many and over runs it (more an issue for wingers and ‘fast’ players) but this guy doesn’t box himself into a corner, he gives it at the right time .

I might double back on my earlier statement of Yohan being our ‘Lampard/Gerrard/Viera’ key in the middle. I think Sissoko HAS to start straight away and looking at it, he’s very tough and has averaged 35 games a season for the past few years so that says to me resilience and good temperament on the pitch without the reds of Tiote. There’s still a place for Tiote, that’s for sure, and that’s further down the pitch- I think there’s a lot of pressure on Tiote to push up and be that Sissoko player which he isn’t, so, with Sissoko to balance things up it will allow Cabs to attack and Tiote to defend- with Anita coming in to do a job if either 3 are injured – so, basically, forever.

    Spuggy… no.

We should get a young promising striker who can rotate with cisse.

If they get another Ba type player we would be back to square 1.

We have to focus on Cisse being the main man again and give the lad ammunition to score the goals we all know he can score.

Hes had a sh*t first half of the season but i think hes had his confidence knocked by being put on the wing and letting Ba play central.

Hes a great striker just needs the balls in the box more regulary and he will gain his confidence back and start showing that brilliant form of the second half of last season, well… almost that form ;)

Just imagin Ben arfa one side of him and Gouffran the other….

  • 168 MNTOONARMY9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 9:29 PM

I love the signings but I have to think that this 20 year old LB will be actually playing…not on the reserve side. When you are sitting this low with 15 matches to play, you don’t waste money on a player that can’t help you now…which leads me to a question.

Is Davide Santon our new LM?

I ask because I like Santon on the ball and attacking and while he is athletic enough to play defense and does alright at it, he’s not a “shut down” LB. Then, as I look at our LM spots I see Jonas who is either injured or playing like he’s 46 sometimes (have to love him, but he’s not in form right now) and Marveaux who has shown flashes. Might we see Santon on the field at LM…making us better defensively (if Haidarra is that good) and offensively at the LM positon?

I know it might not be that simple, but why not try it?

  • 169 GeordieToon89 // Jan 24, 2013 at 9:29 PM

  • 170 bollance // Jan 24, 2013 at 9:29 PM

    Yo

He would be fantastic in #10 role like for France in euros. We now have the personal and lack of pedigree strikers to suggest he will be playing #10.

Think about it. Get Cisse in front of the goal with opportunities and he will score. Get Cisse playing with back to goal and he is terrible.

Santon is too right footed to be a winger IMO, maybe on the right but HBA would have to move to the left. I prefer HBA threat on goal with that left foot on the left.

  • 195 bollance // Jan 24, 2013 at 9:44 PM

We will see how things pan out. Every year that passes brings his value down. Maybe we take him on loan next next season. But we would only do that with option to buy. He could be awkward to go on loan next season to any team except us. Liverpool would be desperate and part pay his wages.

At the moment he is a better version of Shola with 100% more passion.

Carroll was part of Euros but MYM was not despite being a hot prospect. No trying to belittle MYM because he is doubtless a Carr gem. Regardless of the problems. If he starts scoring again he’s back in the england fold. The big question is if. It would be a massive gamble but look at how direct and effective everton are this season.

I am not suggesting me play long ball because clearly that does not work. We have all watched it not working this season. But everton don’t do that. They play balls all over the pitch to fellani. He has the strngth to hold up and play people in.

Without fellani they are a different team. That is why they would comit suicide selling him. I also believe we would comit suicide selling cabaye. Let’s face it we are keeping him sweet bringing in his best mate!

  • 196 Beattie25 // Jan 24, 2013 at 9:45 PM

He is mates with Gouffran and tweeted him good luck and told him not to worry as he was coming.

He then got insulted from Bordeaux fans and he tweeted them saying he loves Bordeaux and that he is staying there for now.

  • 200 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 9:48 PM

Cabaye, tiote, Anita and Sissoko. Where do you begin? It would be excellent competition and we will probably play three of the above with Ben Arfa and then either marveaux or gouffran with cisse upfront.

The thing with Sissoko is he has the ability to pick the ball up and drive, he would be great on the counter. Mbiwa also has the ability to pick the ball up and run with it and I guess if gouffran has speed he also possesses that ability.

It would be nice to see us up the tempo in games with our new recruits. We seem very static and slow so let’s hope Pards can do something with these boys in training. I watched a video of one of our players, can’t remember which one but the boy can rocket a freekick in.

That video you posted (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xx03q7_exclu-la-1ere-reaction-de-m-sissoko-transfere-a-newcastle_sport#.UQGo0Se6fwa) Sissoko’s asked about England and he says it’s the league which best suits his style of play, and he says that Newcastle are a very good club, and although they’re in a bad position in the league at the moment, they have a lot of qualities and a lot of good players. He thinks next year we could be challenging again, it’s important for him to choose a club where he can develop to the maximum and that Newcastle is the ideal club.

    ——HBA————-Cabaye————Gouffran——

    ————————–Cisse——————————-

And that is with everyone fit. It is a close one with Gouffran & Marveaux but I choose him because we need goals at the minute. I would have Tiote for Anita only if he can hit his previous form i.e. Man U at home last year but he gives away possession far to much these days for my liking.

Apparently not until summer though as need to stay up. Makes sense as this new left back has come in and butland rumours wont go away. I suppose we all knew crazy bids would be accepted. Also, funny story that tiote disapeared from a party thrown to see him off to acon. If you are going to start him, then Santon can’t sit, can he? Maybe Santon is better on the right side of he midfield, but seems like we can’t keep a good lad who is fairly exciting on the ball off the pitch.

De Jong would be akin to getting another Cabaye. Imagine both of them in a central midfield with Sissoko/Tiote backing them up. Cisse would score 25.

This has been a wonderful few days and if we get Sissoko, as seems likely ( i’ve been working too much and havent been on web ) then its magic. There is always the concern that we will sell good players in the summer, but i’m not worried. Ashley has really restored the faith that we were getting in him when he signed Cisse and that is so vital for many many fans. i have a feeling we are going to rip the arse off some team at SJP soon. and i have a feeling Chelsea have a storm coming at them if Pardew gets them playing with verve and belief. Come on Pards, many of us doubted you – and for very fair reasons imo – but its time to start tearing into a few teams, especially at SJP. Howay the lads. Well done Ashley and Co. Billson, you must be feeling more chuffed than any of us! Good man. We needed to do this in the summer, but the reaction from the club has been superb. Hopefully we wont by afraid of spending again in summer 2013 if needed. Thrilled to bits. As you know I dont rate Santon thus far as a defender and think Cabaye and Tiote are overrated , certainly in the current set up. This can help a lot. We have to get Cabaye further up the pitch. Its time for Pards to get brave now, but I think Ba going will empower him, even if he didnt deal with the Ba/Cisse issue well.

  • 300 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:49 PM

    Gouffran:

Ba’s return of 29 goals in his 18 months at St James’ will be a hard act to follow, but the Frenchman is far from daunted by the task of attempting to follow in his footsteps and form a partnership with Cisse.

He said: “There’s not really any added pressure. Yes, I am an attacker, yes, I want to score goals, but we both have different styles of play.

“I don’t really think it’s fair to draw any comparisons between both of us. Each player has his own style. Each to his own.

“Papiss Cisse and I played against each other when he was at Metz in France and he is someone who has really made a lot of progress here at Newcastle and he has scored some great goals.

“I had a chat with him this morning for the first time. We get on really well. He’s a great guy and I have no worries that we can definitely play together well.”

  • 311 Ashton // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:56 PM

I saw Haidara’s last game for Nancy. Which was weirdly also Sissoko’s last game for Toulouse!.

He was quite decent. He is very comfortable and calm on the ball and he never hoofed the ball or gave it away when he had it. Which is great at such a young age. He is also very pacy and strong. He was marking Toulouse’s biggest player at set pieces. Which means he has good heading ability and trusted by his manager when it comes to that aspect of the game. He has everything to be a very good and balanced fullback.
I didn’t like his positioning though, but it’s understandable because he is still young and this area of his game can be improved with experience.

Sissoko was my MOTM in that game he ran the show. And did a lot of running with the ball. He showed great work-rate and stamina and was Toulouse’s most creative player. He was playing in front of Sitrex(DM) and behind Didot(AM) and was the best player on the pitch.

If we get that one top striker and possibly if Mike fancies adding Butland as well then I think that would really complete the squad if Colo stayed.

    Then in the summer it would really just be a trimming job;

Williamson and Colo could go if Douglas came in on a free or Toby A for a few bucks.

    Then I’d be fine with the following going/being released;

    XISCO: Released
    GOSLING: £1m
    RANGER: Free
SIMPSON: £500k in Jan or released in Summer.
    JONAS: £2m
    WILLIAMSON: £2m
    COLO: 6m

That would balance the books and enable us to focus on strengthening the youth side of the club.

    Lol.

The only worry now is if cisse gets injured whose gonna score the goals. We do need another prolific goal scorer, but not a no 9.

    Enter Siem de jong.

Could be wrong but I think we’ve walked away from Douglas as a target now. In which case, I’d prefer we keep Willo as a backup (what he’s best for) if we are to lose Colo.

Otherwise we could be no better off in terms of depth. Obviously do more work this coming summer.

For someone like Ashley and Llambias that apparently no nothing about football they sure know what is good value on a player and what is too much. I find that rather interesting. Maybe he has Carr and Pardew giving him the low-down on the players and how much they think he’s worth.

Appreciation to Ashley has to be in order with all these very good things, just as the negatives with all the bad things he’s done.

This has been great and to hopefully get Sissoko, we’ll be like a different team in the second half of the season if everything goes to plan! Excellent.

Gouffran replies ‘thanks my brother it’s nice that you’ll miss me’.

Not gonna bother with all the tweets lol but the last few, BRAVO MORRAY asks ‘you’re also leaving for Newcastle?’ and Sane says no.

  • 367 Ben_BKK // Jan 24, 2013 at 11:46 PM

So no, if the tweets are to be believed, he won’t be leaving Bordeaux for us.

  • 368 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 11:49 PM

Spuggy I wear my heart on my sleeve mate and think I’m very realistic. Finished fifth last year and was hoping we would strengthen and have another pop at finishing in the top 8. I was disappointed with the summer transfer activity and felt Pardew and Ashley sold us short with players because everything was rosey. First ten games were dire but our points tally was acceptable, since then I’ve seen little improvement and we’ve stopped picking up points. I travel far to home games and it got a bit much to take with little positives over the past two months. I’m very pleased with our transfer activity and that players are coming back from injury. If I’m a critical mood I might say five months too late as the season is wasted but I’m jut thankful we’ve for four players over the line with more looking likely. Now it’s down to Pardew to train them right and get a winning team out. If we go down then he needs to go because he’s been backed, it’s that simple. I’m not here to fight or argue with anyone and I think even the loonies on this big want what is best for the club but noboy agrees on what is the st course of action. Heck none of us can even agree on what players to sign…

  • 369 BigKirky // Jan 24, 2013 at 11:50 PM

Some of the key things here aren’t just the new players on the pitch, which in itself is excellent!

I really hope we do well with this lot in, so that Ashley realises that speculating to accumulate using Carr’s recommendations is winner and thus he will be more inclined to invest in the team in the future. Not paying out Liverpool money, but sensible and reliable players of quality. It could also help to attract more quality players in the summer and beyond, gradually getting bigger players in with more quality.

Pardew will hopefully get a boost and feel somewhat revitilised with these fresh faces in. This goes for the players already at the club as well. Plus, competition for places will keep players on their toes.

All in all there can be many benefits of all the new players coming in, not just literally there skills in the side and this is great. Just got to start winning football matches now!

  • 370 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 11:50 PM

Saturday at 5pm we had just lost a relegation six pointer having only picked up one point from three games in January having lost our top scorer. There’s no wonder fans were down. I we win against villa now with all these signings then I imagine the Chelsea game will be rocking

  • 374 5Danny94 // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:04 AM

All we need is a French goalkeeper and we can line up like this:

    —–Debuchy—–M’Biwa—–Haidara—–
    -Amalfitano-Cabaye-Sissokho-Marveaux-
    ———Ben Arfa———-Obertan———-
    ——————–Gouffran——————

Not really a weak team! I just hope they all bother to learn English. It could be disastrous otherwise.

  • 382 Spuggy // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:26 AM

  • 383 JP...from The Rock // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:26 AM

He needs to as the others have been under-performing big time. If we go down it will now be an even bigger disaster. I just hope fans don’t turn on Pardew if we fail to win v Villa and just manage a point. A change in manager now after he was also behind the transfers that have just come in would cause unbalance and confusion and that’s the last we need now.

Seriously I think we need 2 more signings to be certain of securing our PL status. A good Striker that could get us goals like Ricky Van Wolfswinkel or Siem de jong and a good def. The closest to my mind is Ashley Williams.. if not , I don’t think we would stand much of a chance of winning the relegation fight

  • 391 ronjohno // Jan 25, 2013 at 1:04 AM

Been a great week especially if Sissoko arrives – I think he is the one to really be excited about.

I do though have one BIG worry – I dont think Pardew will be up to the job of handling these players and I think he will be completely out of his depth.
If he continues to find places for Jonas, the Ameobis,Williamson and Obertan then I will tear out what little hair I have left.

  • 392 JP...from The Rock // Jan 25, 2013 at 1:09 AM

Willo has to be benched in favour of either Saylor or Mbiwa. Maybe that will be our partnership since Colo’s head is all over the place. Gutierrez also has been very poor but I feel Pardew will still play him. And as for Strolla the less I say about him the better.

  • 393 Blaydon-Toon // Jan 25, 2013 at 1:15 AM

Song for Sissoko … Going loco now we have Sissoko !

  • 394 cockneymagpie90 // Jan 25, 2013 at 1:18 AM

If we played against every team like we did against man u and arsenal, do you think we would be in a relegation scrap and buying all these players?

In those two games we were without taylor, cabaye, ben arfa, tiote and gutierrez and he has the cheek to blame the fringe players who are apperently not good enough.

Im not complaining because ashley has bought into pardews bullsh*t and bought all of this talent which will make the team a lot stronger and should keep us up and hopefully come next season push for champions league like good old mapou said himself.

The icing on this beautiful cake would be if pardew was sacked in the summer for a french/english spoken manager with great tactical knowledge and experience that will get them playing it along the ground and attack teams from start to finish.

The only way pardew would keep his job would be that hes learnt from his long list of mistakes this season and turns it around, or the quality players we have stay injury free and prove they are better than his sh*t tactics and play their own style making him look special.

Pardew out in the summer would show more ambition than these five signings put together.

    Heres hoping!

Peter If you check the previous article you will know more. Apparently sissoko has forfeited a loyalty bonus from Toulouse had he stayed with them until the summer so he could join us this window. They have announced ok your website he has agreed to leave toulouse as of yesterday so it’s really likely, I would imagine he will sign today (Friday) making it 4 in 4. If Mike splashes out for an extra striker I might even buy the man a pint as that will be the Defense sorted and additions in midfield and attack. I wonder what a happy Mike Ashley who felt appreciated would do for us as a club, if anything extra at all.

  • 422 Santon03 // Jan 25, 2013 at 2:47 AM

Sorry, I disagree Santon being labled as bad defender.
He is a wing back, he goes forward because nobody attacking left flank, his runs caused problems to opponent.
How can you ask someone to go furthest forward and get back so deep in a second? It’s impossible for any human being.
The problem is with the midfield for unable to buy enough time for him to get back to his position.
He was a winger before changed into LWB by Mourinho, why he can be a great LWB at inter but not in NUFC that’s the question. You need to see how Inter played under Mourinho compared with how we play, then you will understand.
With Haidara as LB, I hope Santon will play as LW, he will do much better job than Jonas.

Your blaming for our predicament, you are blaming Pardew. The “scapegoat”.

    It’s wrong.

But pop by to discuss his tactics when we are winning, your more than welcome.

  • 427 Zero // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:01 AM

toon prodigy… so pards tactics have been good up to now, winning us loads of games?… really i must be looking at the wrong league. And dont BS about ohhh the injuries oohh he needs his full squad back. Hes had quite a few games with only one or two of our purples missing and lost them thorugh shocking formations and bad substitions.

  • 428 Zero // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:02 AM

I seriously hope these new players bring some new life and we can stop the rot, maybe pards might see some new formations with them and we can start to win again

  • 429 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:11 AM

    Zero,

Im not saying Pardew is not blameless. He has got things tactically wrong. But which manager in the league dosn’t?

What im saying is he is not to blame for where we are in the league. Which is why he still has a job. Its easy to pick the bones out of something you have hatred for.

He can only work with the tools he has got. Aye, he could of changed this and that, but with the quality he has at his disposal? Where would it really have got us? Against premier league oppostion?

He simply has not had the tools.

  • 430 Zero // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:17 AM

I admit weve had ridiculous injuries cooupled with players massively underperforming (both can be partly attributed to underinvestment in the summer and lack of moral). However one firm thing that sets me antipards and is a significant factor above others is how he changed a winning formation and set of tactics to suit one player (Ba) and now that player aint even with us (something pretty much everyone knew was going to happen)

  • 431 cockneymagpie90 // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:19 AM

    @zero

Thank f for you! This guy is more clueless than pardew himself!

I never said we wouldnt pick up points in the next few weeks, im not doubting that! I actually think we will even with pardews style of play as the quality weve brought in will deffinately help.

Someones looking for an argument in their sad pathetic life! Go up and read through what i said again. Hopefully u can make sense of it second time round yea? Retard.

A visit to specsavers is must for you, gdnight (for the last time)

  • 432 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:24 AM

    Zero,

But do you not agree it was for the benefit of the club if both were firing on all cylinders and had 12 goals each right now?

It was a gamble that didnt pay off. But we all would of loved it? With Ba & Cisse?

Im sure he had the best interests of the club at heart here. And it might if swayed Ba to stay. He was our top goal scorer.

Its fine saying, well it didnt work! Hoy him out, we need a better manager. But none of us would be complaining if it had of worked and Ba stayed on.

He isnt to blame, wait until he has his team back and the players available which he SHOULD of had in the summer ; )

Months ago, before the window, I had said that our only hope for survival would be to sign 2-3 ready game changers. Now, this has been done, twofold. Hats off to Ashley, no one can say he didn’t give it his all. I like him as owner, tbh, he seems a likable billionaire, despite the unwarranted over-the-top hate from some fans.

  • 459 cyprus // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:42 AM

If this guy is a LB, maybe Santon will be pushed further upfront, a better position for him. Believe it or not, many Spurs fans disliked Bale because he was average as a LB. Now, having changed his role, he’s worth 50 mil.!!

I agree with you on both MA and Santon.
MA is a good owner, he ddoesn’t get involved much in running the club. He is like any other bosses, he is more focus on his main business and let other people running the other investments.
Regarding Santon, I made a comment earlier #417. Hopefully he will play as LW, he could also do a great job helping defense. I like Jonas, but he is just not the kind of player he used to be.

    Krul
    Debuchy Mbiwa Collo Santon
    Anita Sissoko
    Goofy Cabaye Jonas
    Cisse

    Thats what i reckon anyway.

Well done Graham Carr and Mike Ashley, at last we have embraced ambition.

And a special big Well done to Alain DePardew for doing so shit, without it these signings would never have been possible……

  • 464 LGFUAD21 // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:32 AM

Late but spot on to whoever said santon could play lw, he does remind me of a young Gareth bale, he’ll never develop as much flair but he will make smarter decisions and be more industrious.

But I don’t see the issue with him at lb, Pards has coached him well in the time he has been here, he’s always improving and is still so young.

Also agree that mika has done his bit now we as fans need to get back to firing the squad up and turning sjp back into a fortress. REGARDLESS OF THE SCORE at any one time

  • 465 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:37 AM

    Cyprus…..and others

I think the problem with santon being in a forward role is that his final delivery isn’t the same standard as bale’s is or even was back then.

He makes great runs as a full back and is good at beating a man but his crossing is below par and his shooting is decent but not clinical.

I do though think it could be a good move providing he takes extra time to work on his crossing with both feet.

  • 466 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:42 AM

The team I would like to see for villa providing everyone settles quick enough.

    ————–krul—————-
    debuchy—mbiwa–colo—–haidara/santon
    ———anita——–sissoko——–
    santon/marv——-cabaye———-gouffran
    —————cisse——————

Something along those line gives us pace, power, flair, quality, vision…everything we need to take villa apart.

Also think with benteke being good in the air haidara will offer more defence against that than santon.

  • 469 fray bentos // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:54 AM

    Posters comparing Santon to Bale

Bale is another league compared to Santon, Santon is probably comparable on technique but Bale’s pace, flair and his ability to nearly always make his final ball count far surpass Santon, sorry guys its just the truth but Santon can get better ofcourse but i imgine he will never be as good, then again Bale is probably one of the 10 hottest properties on the planet right now

  • 470 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:00 AM

    fray bentos

Yeh I am with you on that. The consistent quality of balls bale delivers into the box in on par with anyone in world football at the moment.

I think santon is just as good at gliding past the defenders but when it come to crossing and shooting he doesn’t get close.

Maybe a switch to the right wing would help him as he could easily whip a ball in when on the run.

I still think with practice santon could be a top class wide player though…or even a full back if he works on his defensive game more.

  • 471 WWYCD // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:03 AM

Not too long ago Bale wasn’t one of the hottest properties around took time for him to get to the level he is at and Santon is a bit younger

  • 472 fray bentos // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:07 AM

    @Transfer

I think your forgetting about Bale’s pace while dribbling, its amazing to watch and if he loses it he will lose alot of his game

The way Santon takes on players is alot more about his technqiue rather than his pace which is good in other ways

Yeah i agree, would love to see what Santon would be like on the RW, maybe with more space infront of him we might see him taking on players with more space, could be really special

Those saying the Remy money has been used to bring in Mbiwa, Haidara and Sissoko are almost certainly wrong. Those signings were clearly in the pipeline and only Gouffran has possibly been signed because Remy went to QPR.

If Remy would have joined Debuchy, Mbiwa, Haidara and Sissoko that would have turned an already brilliant window into a truly spectacular one. Irrespective, it proves beyond doub that Ashley’s ambition for NUFC isn’t mid table mediocrity. I keep saying it, Ashley is massively ambitious and his first target is to build a better and more successful team that the one owned by his mates at Spurs. He wants the bragging rights and Ashley will, I’m convinced, do everything within reason to get us challenging for the top 4 asap.

I think santon could do it….but I just think he will have to improve more dramatically than bale did.

There is 2 years between them and it was 2 years ago that bale scored that amazing hattrick in the san siro and tortured maicon (when he was still good) over 2 games.

I can’t see it but do agree, you can never tell how somebody will develop.

  • 476 fray bentos // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:10 AM

Here’s hoping, im not saying he couldn’t get better, im just saying that in my opinion Bale is so good that it would be difficult for anyone to get near his standard at the moment, if he was playing at Man U he would be even more devestating

But would love to see Santon played on the wing, might see even more then

  • 477 LGFUAD21 // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:11 AM

    Fray

I ou r rea my post you will s yo hav misunestood me.

The comparison was about how he is good on the attack but perhaps a little weak defensively,

Redknapp saw that in bale and made the switch.

Some players just can’t make the step up in physicality and pace.

But with santon defensively we need to be a bit more patient. He doesn’t screw up colossally but he needs to learn to not give players to much space. His tracking is good but his containing needs to be improved, but he still so young.

Jumped the gun a bit mate.

  • 481 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:17 AM

No doubt bale is more about pace, a lot of the time he just kicks it past the full back and runs round him, he can struggle when teams double up against him as he can’t do this and he has to rely on turns, jinking runs etc which he isn’t as good at (still good enough though).

I like santon’s style, very technical and gets through tight spots….if he improves his final ball he will be magnificent.

  • 482 WWYCD // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:19 AM

    Sage/fray
I agree tbh he has a lot to do in order to improve but he’s doing in a different position then Bale atm if he was moved more forward (I actually don’t think he will unless a new manager comes in) he might leanr faster…or he might flop completely haha

I hope Haidaras signing lights a fire in him to cement his LB spot, might even make him learn how to defend ;)

  • 483 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:20 AM

    Bills

Ashley is just correcting the problem he caused in the summer by not signing players. That was step one of what needed to be done. He has passed that check.

Nearly everyone here could see that was a problem so it’s easy for ashley to identify.

What he needs to make sure he does is invest in the summer again, get 2-3 good players in to improve the starting 11 or bench who are ready for first team and can refresh the dressing room for the next season.

Doing that will show he has learned from his mistake and not just reacting to problems.

But in fairness he has done all he can this window so fair play for now…just needs to continue in the summer.

  • 488 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:29 AM

    El sleeve

Do you not think with all these new players ( we now have people comfortable with the ball in all areas of the team) that its worth giving pardew another go?

If pardew persists with hoof ball then fair enough…but he now has everything he needs to play a passing game so lets see what we get.

If by the end of the season the majority of the teams include shola and jonas then fair enough….but I think we should judge him on what he does with these players.

  • 489 C // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:31 AM

I wonder if this was the plan all along. The players were to expansive in the summer but since Sissoko and Gouffran are on expiring contracts, they come cheap now in january. So they played the waiting game and took a gamble?

Or was MA offended by the way QPR conducted their business and wanted to show some muscles?

Or is he learning and now knows that if you want to compete in Europe, cups and the league you cant rely on youngsters?

Or is he just afraid of the drop?

  • 490 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:31 AM

    santon03

We rarely have more than 2 in the box, normally just one, so that means that it would take the perfect cross to find the player so it is hard for santon.

But when he does cross it I’m not convinced he has the quality yet…he has the ability so I think he needs to just spend more time working on this aspect of his game.

We have selection issues for the first time all season – Yanga is a guaranteed starter, as it Sissoko, I feel. Poss Gouffran to start and Haidara on the bench.

    But who knows?!

  • 497 mecannylad // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:42 AM

We’ve had such a positive few days there has to be a ‘curved ball’ coming our way before this window closes.
Let’s face it … we are NUFC.

  • 498 Spuggy // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:43 AM

    Daztoon

If you’re going to slag me off at least have the grace and maturity to do it without personal insults if you are capable.

It’s football, we all have our opinion, I didn’t say Santon COULDN’T play on the wing, but he is right footed and always comes inside when on the left. When did you last see him get to the byline and cross or pass a ball? That is a reasonable point. You can disagree if you want, but please do so with class an bin the childish insults.

  • 499 Toon73 // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:44 AM

There is zero excuse to not start Sissoko & Mbiwa.

Surely Pards has to see shola is an impact sub player, and Jonas too possibly.

    Go Toon !

  • 500 Spuggy // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:44 AM

    @daztoon

And of course I’m a glory hunter – I hunt glory for my team NUFC, where I was born. Who doesn’t.

  • 501 Spuggy // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:46 AM

You would think Pards started Shola on a regular basis, he hardly got a game (apart from late sub) when Ba was here. It’s not like he picks him over Ba or Cisse.

    Let’s wait and see.

  • 502 Toon73 // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:47 AM

hey Ed please make your next headline Newcastle sign fourth frenchman in four days :)

  • 503 TorqToon // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:48 AM

Morning Yo – I’m still completely stunned that we have got Yanga on our books and we are nearly there to confirm Sissoko!

2 massive players that could play at the very highest level. Spoke to my colleague at Montpellier last night and he said THE main factor on why Yanga picked us over the other options he had – was MA and his sheer desire to bring the lad to Newcastle. And we all know how hard Sissoko has had to work to push a move through to us – even at his own personal expense. These are the types of player we need at this club.

Bit of news on Thauvin – Bastia are close to signing a direct replacement for him today. Word is they will sign him as long as we loan him back for the season – but I think we want him now. Either way – picking up this lad is yet another coup.

Personally I don’t care that they are all French – they are quality players at bargain prices.

  • 504 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:48 AM

    torq

    I’d probably agree with that.

I’d like mbiwa in for williamson, sissoko in for jonas in the middle and then to have gourffran on for shola.

Shift marv to the left and have gouffran right.

    Morning Gents,

TS….That last line sounds like part of a song ( I’m thinking “Let’s do the timewalk” maybe…)

“Just shift marv to the left”

“and then Gouff to the rriiiigggghhht”

No putting your hands on your hips though.

  • 508 ~Anita One Bites the Dust~ // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:53 AM

David Luiz likely to miss the game against Us due to Injury. Hazard may miss it also unless his red card is revoked. If we win that game it could be a major turning point + Confidence booster

  • 509 TorqToon // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:54 AM

    TS -

    Debuchy – Colo – Mbiwa – Santon
    Anita – Sissoko
    Gouffran – Cabaye – Marv
    Cisse

Anita will do all the clean ups back there and protect the back line, allowing debs and sant’s to move forward. Sissoko will act like a deep lying play maker with more than enough ability to progress up the pitch, Gouffran and Marv will terrorise defences, Cabaye in an advanced role and Cisse up on his own – yet with people all around him for support.

  • 510 daztoon // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:54 AM

Agree our deals take so long they were all going on same time as Remy.We can’t say it’s all ambition shown by Ashley until after sept 1st next season and see what squad we start with.

  • 514 TorqToon // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:58 AM

Morning Ibiza !! I smell a new terrace song on the horizon! :-)

Strange murmurings regards RVW – They have confirmed there has been a bid – at around the money they want for him – and now silence! No word of an acceptance or rejection. The thought of us spending just as much money again to buy a centre forward doesn’t seem real – but it seems it could be a distinct possibility!

  • 515 lesh // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:58 AM

If this is correct, then it’s clear that Ashely’s not been pi$$ing about with Collo!

  • 516 Premiership Manager // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:00 AM

Just been watching some video’s of Sissoko and he looks like the complete midfielder and may be a better player than Cabaye.

In one of the video’s in his early career it looks like he is playing as a wing back and he’s a very good crosser of the ball.

I don’t often talk of formations but if we have Marvaux, Cabaye, Anita and Sissoko with Tiote fighting for a place, competition to get in the team will be good.

Put Cisse upfront with HBA or Gouffran in the hole and we have a very good team with a solid defence, (hope Colo stays), a very good holding/attacking midfield and three forwards who when combined with the midfield should be able to control the game and open up any defence.

The bonus is that we now have more versatility than ever as santon can play midfield if required and both anita and Sissoko can play at LB/RB if need be.

Lets just hope that Pardew can now put the icing on the cake and prove the majority of the fans wrong and start to get the club back on top without any more excuses

  • 517 lesh // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:00 AM

Ibizatoon , I’ve got the bed stripped and the sheets painted up already – Ashley out!!!!!

  • 518 bills-son // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:01 AM

Toon Tom & Transfer Sage re Ashley not signing in the summer – he couldn’t get the targets he wanted at the price he was prepared to pay – and he won’t spend just for the sake of it. Nobody – including us fsns – thought we’d have the huge injury and loss of form that we’d get this season. I’m convinced that Ashley was confident he could get Mbiwa, Sissoko and Debuchy in this window and he took a chance the team could hold its own until then – that decision back fired but I don’t see it as lack of ambition. Just a decision that didn’t work out.

And another thing – what is consistently ignored by fans is that Ashley showed ambition in the summer by NOT SELLING any of our top players – something he has been consistently accused of wanting to do.

Far too many fans are demanding perfection in everything that Ashley does, criticising him everytime he isn’t perfect and finding negative excuses whenever he does do something that benefits NUFC.

Any other NUFC owner who had signed the quality of players we have this January would have his praises and nane sung from the rooftops of the Leazes and the Gallowgate – not only won’t there be, but there will STILL be fans saying its all a plot to bring in good players only so he can sell them for a massive profit as soon as he gets the opportunity.

I’ll say it until I’m blue in the face – Ashley is by far the BEST owner of NUFC in my 50 odd years as a Toon supporter. The best by a mile.

  • 521 lesh // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:05 AM

bills-son , I don’t Ashely would have been the only obstacle to signings last summer….. let’s not forget he’s got a Managing Director to prepare proposals for approval and without recommendations, he acn’t be expected to approve can he.

I’ll say it again – that I believe Llambias has been far too concerned with the bottom line and the P&L accounts to see a bigger picture. In other words, he’s been out of his depth!

  • 526 bills-son // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:11 AM

daztoon @513, – no disrespect but that attitude is EXACTLY what pi$$es me off. Everytime Ashley does something good you and other fans trot out this ‘lets wait and see if there is any hidden motive before we pat him on the back’ malarkey.

FFS, he could have sold HBA, Cabaye and Tiote in the last four windows and he hasn’t. He gave long term contracts to Krul, Colo, STaylor and Jonas and he paid £9M for Cisse last Jan when we already had one of the Prem’s top scorers here.

The only players who we’d have like to stayed that he sold wanted to go – AC he screwed £35M for and Enrique and Ba he could do fk all about because they were free to leave with their contracts.

Why don’t you and other fans just judge Ashley on what he is doing NOW not on what you speculate he MIGHT do in the future? Remember, tomorrow never comes and if Ashley is judged on tomorrow he doesn’t stand a chance of ever being praised for what he does today.

  • 527 last minute window lies // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:12 AM

  • 529 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:15 AM

    Bills

I’m not saying ashley wasn’t ambitious in the summer but not signing more was a mistake.

If he couldn’t get his top targets he still needed to get somebody else (not just anybody but car said he has a list of 7/8 in each position) or pay a little over the odds to get the man he wants.

The deals he has done now are good, and I am giving him praise for them.

The injuries we couldn’t foresee which I understand, that makes sense, I get that we didn’t sign more midfielders etc.

but we desperately needed a CB for 2 years, something which was not addressed for 2 transfer windows prior to this one.

As I said…as long as ashley shows he has learned from his mistakes and further strengthens in the summer then thats all well and good…if we make the same mistake this summer then he hasn’t learned.

Also not selling players is all well and good. I don’t think ashley will sell players, he never has done. Only carrol for silly money, all other sales have been fringe players or players who’s contract was running out so fair enough.

All clubs sell players if a silly bid comes in…even man utd sold ronaldo. So accept that and wouldn’t criticise if he sold any player providing we got top money for him.

Look at Santon’s dribbling….up there with the best….more than a little proof, that he should be playing in the Bale role

I think people, are a little blinded by Bales brilliance, if Santon is 3/4s of the player Bale is, we have an very very very good LW on our hands…

  • 532 TheChippedFifth // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:17 AM

Bills-son its quite clear you either work for Ashley or are in some way related/linked. You dont talk about anything else toon related except for how good Ashley is. I’ve been reading the blog for ages and rarely comment but the only thing you ever write is Ashley this, Ashley that, Ashley’s the savior, without even entering into a debate on Newcastle related news and views.

You should try to be more subtle in your approach as I’m sure others feel the same.

In the time its taken me to write that, you have managed to post more of the same. Change the record bills-son, I bet if they were to make a compilation of your posts, every single one would be about how brilliant Ashley is.

Yes I believe he is running the club on a more sustainable and economical footing but these signings we have seen this window are out of necessity and wouldn’t have taken place if we weren’t in the position we are now.

  • 536 daztoon // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:24 AM

How many times on the blog have you said Ashley will do this and that and that the cb will be bought only to be left with egg on yer face.If he had bought these players in the summer we would have gone forward not backwards. Also can Pardew get the best out of these players and play positive football instead of the sit back and protect a 1-0.

  • 538 bills-son // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:40 AM

TheChippedFifth – you obviously don’t read all of my posts because if you did you’d know what you say is bullsh1t. I’ve engaged in sensible debates with many of the regular posters on here about all matters NUFC and I made it clear I wasn’t happy with not signing more players in the summer and wanted a big show of committment from Ashley this Jan – we’ve got it.

daztoon – the consistent thing I’ve said on this blog is that Ashley is AMBITIOUS for the club, that he isn’t here to rape us of cash, sell our best players, settle for just escaping relegation each season and having no other strategy other than to promote SD. I’ve often been a lone (and ridiculed) voice against the stupid hate filled rantings of those who have seen – and still see – Ashley as the devil in disguise. Some fans have had big enough balls to either admit they were wrong about Ashley or agree to give him the benefit of the doubt and give him due credit for the good things he has done. Other fans with small balls who have dug themselves into an Ashley filled hate hole continue to act like spoilt kids who have been proved wrong time and again.

I don’t work for Ashley, have never met him (although have talked to a few who have) and its been clear to me especially since he decided not to sell the club after relegation – that he is totally committed to moving this club forward.

If you or other fans don’t agree – tough.
