Newcastle Now Linked With Top French Youngster

5:39 pm, Thursday, January 24th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 22 Comments

Newcastle United are interested in young Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who at 17 years old has already played eight times for the PSG first team.

Adrien Rabiot

Adrian Rabiot – Newcastle interested

Newcastle are always on the look out for top young talent, but as yet the Tyneside club having unearthed any real top stars who the club have signed as youngsters, although 19 year-old Gael Bigirmana, signed from Coventry for just £1M in the summer, looks like a bog star of the future.

Newcastle have brought in a number of senior players in January already, and they are also looking to add some top young talent to the squad, and news last week that owner Mike Ashley had given the Newcastle Board a transfer fund to bring in up to 10 players before September.

Rabiot stands 6’2″ tall already, and he was given his PSG in the Champions League against Dynamo Zagreb by coach former Chelsea and Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti, and he has played for all the French Youth sides up to U19 level – and he seems a top midfield talent – and one for the future.

The 17 year-old would like to play more games, and certainly we wouldn’t be at all surprised if Newcastle are interested in signing this player – and add to our Development squad – which will be pruned of those players who have not made the grade at Newcastle.

Rabiot was at various clubs before joining PSG in 2010, and he was at Manchester City for a while in 2008, but that was before City were taken over by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan, who seems to have given up on Manchester City’s once fantastic Youth Policy – in favor of signing the finished product for lots of money.

Newcastle are still making a big investment in youth – and Adrien Rabiot seems to fit into the profile of young players Newcastle would like to sign.

I can’t see him getting many more games here than at PSG, once we’ve got Sissoko, Cabaye, Tiote and Anita all in centre mid!

Debuchy, Yanga-Mbiwa and Sissoko. ANY team would be happy with those. And all for under £15m. Face it, we don’t often do signings, but when we do.. Phwoar.

  • 6 colwell // Jan 24, 2013 at 5:45 PM

Well Remy QPR’s little project looks much better than ours right now.

Although I’m sure signing the Korean defender Suk Young (enter text here) is much better than Mbiwa.

Ed, once we’ve brought all these french players in, will you still publish the blog in english?
Seriously though, I welcome all of our recent signings to NUFC. Here’s hoping they are all a great success and the toon move onwards and upwards.

Looks promising if he’s played 8 times for the senior squad of PSG at just 19. But weren’t we battling with Arsenal for that kid called Thuvian or something like that from Bastia?

    What happened there?

Has anyone seen this kid or the other from Bastia play before?

    Niafran where are you?

Tim Krul was signed as a youngster and I’d say he’s one of our star players. Realistically if you get 10% of your talented 17/18 year olds make the grade you are doing well.

By my count we’ve had about 15 young “investment” players come to the club since Krul (I’m not including home grown players like Carroll or Forster). Bassong was a first team player at the time he was sold for a healthy profit. The Bassong profit probably paid for all of the transfer fees, effectively giving us Krul and the prospects of Bigi, Abeid, and Vu?ki? for free.

    Good
    Bigirimana
    Amalfitano
    Abeid
    Moyo
    Gosling
    Adjei (released)
    Vu?ki?
    Ranger
    Bassong (sold – £8 million)
    Soderberg(released)
    Zamblera (released)
    Tozer (released)
    Kadar (released)
    Krul (first team staple)

To those fans like Thump who are still making excuses and not giving Ashley due credit for showing real ambition in this window… Get down off your high horses.

Ashley has hardly put a foot wrong since we got relegatec and he tried to sign top qulity players i the summer but wouldn’t pay inflated fees. We’ve been hugely unlucky to have the worst injury record in the Prem compounded by a loss of form in some of our top players ie., Colo, Krul and Cisse. Ashley got hammered for lack of ambition in the summer and now, when he goes out and signs four quality playets, he getx slagged that he’s ‘only doing it to make sure he gets the Prem money next season’.

    Pathetic responsrs by some fans.

I’ve said it many timex before – Ashley is hugely ambitious for NUFC – I bet we make another couple of stellar signings in the summer.

  • 18 reccerobbo // Jan 24, 2013 at 6:59 PM

Strechintoon, marvaux never settled in his first season took him a while to find his feet. I know he had injuries but took a while to settle maybe its the same with amtilafano.
