Newcastle Still Want Three More Frenchman Signed In January

10:12 am, Thursday, January 24th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 92 Comments

News today that Newcastle will sign Moussa Sissoko to a pre-contract agreement – but the club still wants to get him on board in January – so will need to pay some transfer fee to his French club Toulouse.

Florian Thauvin 99

Florian Thauvin – Newcastle till want to sign this French U21 midfielder

But the situation with Sissoko and his club is not good, and Toulouse have suspended him – but we thought they would welcome a bid from Newcastle this month – because they’ll get nothing for him in the summer – when he becomes a free agent.

Newcastle still have to work something out for Sissoko – but they are also still interested in 19 year-old Florian Thauvin of Bastia, the France under-21 midfielder, but it seems that Arsenal are also interested in the player.

And of course we expect Newcastle to announce the signing today of 20 year-old powerhouse Massadio Haidara  from Nancy – and he’s been on Tyneside a couple of days.

So these are three deals Newcastle still have to do before the window closes next Thursday – but if Coloccini leaves – we really need to bring in another center-back and we were really hoping we could also sign striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Sporting Lisbon.

The Newcastle Journal, Evening Chronicle  and  Shields Gazette are all reporting this morning that Colo is to stay at Newcastle, after talks with San Lorenzo broke down yesterday – but we don’t know how true the report is in the Independent that he has since walked out on Newcastle to return to South America.

So there’s some hope that the Independent report about him walking away is simply untrue – we hope the report about him walking away is simply untrue.

If we can get Thauvin and van Wolfswinkel in this month along with Sissoko and Haidara  that would be great – but we’d still be losing a top Premier League player if Coloccini is not available through the end of the season.

What do you think?

Really want us to sign this Ricky van Wolfswinkel like

  • 5 SuperShearer // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:16 AM

Twitter saying Colo is at the training ground so stories of him departing are off the mark. Apparently he’s not happy but at the same time the rumour is at no point did San Lorenzo actually contact Newcastle….so who exactly were they negotiating with?

  • 6 obatoyou // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:17 AM

Don’t forget the frenchman we already had, Obertan Marveux, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Abeid, Debuchy

The french speakers Tiote and Cisse, man, without Coloccini we could field a team of French speakers now 🙂
    except the keeper lol

  • 7 TorqToon // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:18 AM

Yo-yo – A great post mate. Well said.

Yanga and Sissoko are 2 of the most down to earth, hard working players I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.

As you say – not even in the same ball park as Remy and (unfortunately), Demba Ba.

SSN shows Collo at the training ground this morning.

The players would be proud I’m sure to wear blue, to 50 000 chanting geordies cheering for le bleus!~

I am beginning to worry about all these French lads coming in with not link to the club what so ever, I am still hoping for some English lads to join our ranks either now or in the summer

  • 13 TorqToon // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:20 AM

SS – I feel it was just San Lorenzo trying to rock the boat.

A truly unprofessional club. And the papers generating cr@p like last night with colo “flying to Argentina” – simply ridiculous.

If we get Haidara and Sissokho in, then this has been the best window we’ve had in a long time. If we get Thauvin in aswell it will be fantastic. If we get wolfs winkle in aswell!! I don’t know what I would do!

Imagine this for a January window!

  • 21 obatoyou // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:22 AM

Forget reports, can’t even stand Ed’s speculation anymore

  • 22 TorqToon // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:23 AM

Speaking to the media in France today he said: “ This is a club that attracts me. I have confidence in his group over what they did last season.

“ In addition, their leaders have invested in quality French players.

“They will rise in the second half of the season.

“Having all these French players is reassuring.

“I know them well and it will facilitate my integration ,”

    A proper professional – Moussa Sissoko !

  • 23 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:23 AM

Are we waiting on Sissoko before we announce Massadio Haidara?

  • 24 obatoyou // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:24 AM

Good window Conaldo, hopefully they bring it to the pitch, I can see good things in our future, like a Europa Semi final~ 🙂

  • 25 obatoyou // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:25 AM

just pay the 2.5 mil for Sissoko please~
or i will kill u ashley

Sissoko really said that to the French media? Haha get in lad

  • 27 rainrix // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:25 AM

Torq… So is that pretty much a conformation he’s joining this window?

Jesper… I though haidara would be announced the same time as goufrann they both showed up for medicals at the same time. Perhaps they’re just dragging it out so we have a signing a day till the end of the window 🙂

  • 28 Conaldo (The Wizard...Also Bestest Friends With Paul Scharner) // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:26 AM

    Oba – hopefully,

What’s the crack with the new players being cup tied? I heard we could only play one of Debuchy, Mapou or Goufrann due to Europa league rules.
    Anyone know?

  • 29 Markaccus // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:26 AM

@ conaldo. Don’t think we could have RVW and sissoko. We only have room for one more over 21 player in the 25 man senior squad. I think.

  • 30 Novocastrian66 // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:26 AM

Torq. You’re half right; Colo needs to issue a statement of intent – AND get on with his job !!!

  • 33 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:28 AM

Thats why i would like butland and ince to come in butland we could apparantly get for £3 mil but most english lads cost a fortune!!!

Colo needs to do the right thing and make a statement today

  • 34 John Tudor // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:29 AM

  • 35 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:30 AM

Rainrix…now that would make for an interesting last week 🙂

Jan. 24th – Massadio Haidara signs s 5 year deal
    Jan. 25th – Sissoko signs a 5½ year deal
    Jan. 28th – Thauvin signs a 3½ year deal
    Jan. 29th – RVW signs a 4½ year deal
    Jan. 30th – ?
    Jan. 31th – ?

  • 37 BoyNUFC // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:33 AM

Does anyone know if any of our new buys (or possible future aquisitions) are cup-tied for Europa League?

  • 38 sula // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:33 AM

Get Ricky in we need a striker good to see something actually happening this transfer window i for one didnt expect jack shit to happen. Sissoko has to come this month we really need him as our former bull has become a diva. If Sissoko does come through i hope it will wake Tiote up then we can have 2 bulls yeah man now that would be a mean midfield. If Tiote doesnt like the idea Newcastle should get rid of him and cover some money and to think we could have collected 15-20 mil for him in the sumnmer.

  • 39 TorqToon // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:34 AM

Yo – Yeah he said it mate. It shows his desire and the thought he has put into a move to Newcastle. He has visited the city in June and seemed to enjoy the vibe. He told me that the whole place – as we know – is Newcastle Utd obsessed. I joked with him that playing in a 1 club city is something pretty special and takes a special person to pull it off!

I can see Toulouse holding out for as much money as they can get – but by holding onto him until the summer they will have to pay out around €800,000 in wages alone – seems they are cutting off their nose to spite their face.

I would even say we should up our €2.5mil offer to €3mil and get this done. It may be more than we hoped to pay – but it’s still dirt cheap!

  • 40 obatoyou // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:35 AM

    Really Markaccus wow

    Conaldo –

Well, I know Bordeaux players can’t play, because they were already registered for Bordeaux in the EL so Gouffran can’t play 🙁 neither would Van Wolfswinkel, as Sporting are in it….. which leaves us short of strikers..

Debuchy is fine as Lille weren’t in it, Mbiwa is fine as well as Montpellier weren’t in it either. Haidara would be fine, as Nancy weren’t in, same with Toulouse and Sissoko

  • 41 FloridaToon // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:36 AM

    Good Article:

  • 42 WWYCD // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:36 AM

Id be very impressed if we got Butland and Ince, Butland is a steal at around 3-4 mill but I reckon Ince will head back to Liverpool, plenty of young English players in the lower leagues who we should be looking at

  • 43 rainrix // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:36 AM

BoyNUFC…. Well Goufrann will be as he played for Bordeaux against us. Mbiwa will be fine as he only played in the CL same with debuchy. Haidara and sissoko haven’t played in any european competition. If we get RVW he will be cup-tied also.

  • 44 TorqToon // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:37 AM

Ben3arfa – I heard a while back that we are looking to buy a new young keeper to push Timmy all the way.

This was followed by the news of interest in Butland, although I heard of a different target – yep, another French player! 🙂

Brilliant mate he seems to want the move as much as we need it now after being told if hes not on his bike hes going to sit in the reserves until he goes on a free (actually respect the clubs decision on that one)

At that price he is brilliant quality just hope MA continues to stump up the cash

Anyone fancy this vs Villa (based on current squad and not taking anything for granted in regards to future signings)

    ———————- Krul ———————-
    Debuchy – Mbiwa – Coloccini – Santon
    ————— Anita — Jonas —————-
    Gouffran ——– Cabaye —– Marveaux
    ——————— Cisse ———————

Subs:- Elliot, Williamson, STaylor, Perch, Bigirmana, Obertan, Shola

Jonas on bench for Obertan if Sissoko is signed. We SHOULD win Villa, anything less than 3 points is a let down!

  • 50 obatoyou // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:41 AM

    Oops I stand corrected…

Debuchy and Mbiwa are not allowed to play in both the Champions league and the Europa, so unfortunately, these guys will have to play in the premier league, while the rest play in Europe 🙂

  • 57 FloridaToon // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:46 AM

    My take on Sissoko.

My understanding is that we have agreed verbally to a pre contract but we want him this window so he has not signed it yet. I think MA will push the price as low as he can while still getting him in January.

I think this is why he has been suspended by Toulouse, they are pissed off becasue they have nothing to bargain with to get a better price for him.

  • 58 AMEOBI // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:47 AM

  • 59 Transfer Sage // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:49 AM

I think the pre contract agreement is signed already.

Now we are just negotiating to try and get him now too…worst case scenario is he will join for free in the summer.

  • 60 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:49 AM

Ive heard butland and the tank of a 20 yr old from toulouse but seeing as there kicking a stink up over sissoko cant see them grabbing a highly rated youngun off them!!!

Ince im not sure even liverpool will pay £8 mil for not 2 years after selling him!
Butland think we could get would like to see matty phillips, charlie austin or hughes from derby

  • 61 yo-yo // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:50 AM

The whole team is gonna be lifted by the new guys coming in and MA showing such commitment to the playing side. I think APs strategy of dealing with MA has to be vindicated if he has persuaded him to release this level of transfer funds – and I’m no acolyte of either.
We all know it makes good business sense to invest but none of us had any idea this was coming.

  • 62 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:50 AM

  • 64 TorqToon // Jan 24, 2013 at 10:52 AM

Jesp – Gouffran has got the 11 shirt. But whilst players are there at the club for medicals etc, they just get given a reserves kit to wear.

I think Yanga wore 32 during his testing but has the squad number 13.

I understand exactly what it means thank you.

It’s not the richest club…its purely down to takes no account of out going money or money in the bank accounts of rich owners.

Chelsea and man city aren’t as ‘rich’ as man utd yet spend a lot more on players because they have owners willing to stump up their own cash.

Debt isn’t taken into account in that poll.

  • 83 TorqToon // Jan 24, 2013 at 11:03 AM

Adrian Durham is a clown! Useless and full of rubbish 99% of the time.

It’s like Houllier and ‘the great’ Steed Malbranque coming out and saying that all these French players are going to cause major problems!!! This pair aren’t respected enough to voice their opinion on this club – we integrate ALL our players brilliantly, we even run English tuition at the club – maybe Nile Ranger should go along, too!! 🙂

  • 84 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 24, 2013 at 11:03 AM

face it every other club in the world are wasting money day by day, but for newcastle we are racking in profits by not wasting daft money on players or paying pathetic wages and clauses, so in a few seasons time Newcastle will be above the top 5 riches clubs in the world.

  • 85 toonincheek // Jan 24, 2013 at 11:05 AM

Still not so confident about Villa.
    Well, not over-confident.

My suspicion is that a bit of over-confidence has crept in, after our performances last season.
Plus injuries, things not going our way, Cisse not scoring the same goals.
Can’t really complain too mauch about Cisse.
    All strikers have lean spells.
And so many of his goals last season were just unbelievable.

All these new signings – theywill take time to settle in to the PL and our style – but these developments may just lead to more over-confidence short-term.
    Short term only, though.
We’ll’ come good towards the end of the season.

  • 86 alf // Jan 24, 2013 at 11:06 AM

Durhams, a Ginger Southern Whinger! He’s always spouting the same drivel on his show on Talksport! Colo wants out because he has got a bird pregnant and she’s bad news, that’s why his Missus has done off back to Argentina. Nothing to do with how NUFC are run!

no weak spots and would leave elliot, tiote, saylor, raylor, bigi, cambell, shola, guti for bench positions.

ideal for me would be shola and guti off that list although i could be challenged on guti and a striker on it to turn the game around

  • 88 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 24, 2013 at 11:09 AM

i understand were your coming from but it’s not only there chairmen coffing up money, it’s also sponsors racking in at least over 100 mill a season for man u simply because they are always in cup competition especially champions league.

  • 89 Transfer Sage // Jan 24, 2013 at 11:10 AM

I have no problem with how we spend money…other than we should have spent a bit more in the summer, but in general its a good policy.

We will be no where near top 5 richest clubs…again it is income only taken into account. Therefore the teams at the top make more as they pull in more tv money, champs league money, higher sponsorship, merchandise etc

  • 90 Transfer Sage // Jan 24, 2013 at 11:13 AM

    black and white

yeh, man utd get 50mil training kit sponsorship

liverpool get 25mil a year off warrior sports to make the kit.

chelsea, man, utd, man city all get champs league money.

We will be no where near them, it would take a long time to build to that level.

My point was we might have the 20th highest income but clubs like anzi and zenit in russia with lower income still have a higher spending power as they have billionaire owners.
