Yoan Gouffran Signs – Newcastle A Famous Club

1:03 am, Thursday, January 24th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 46 Comments

Newcastle United have completed the third signing of the January transfer window when they announced last night the signing of 26 year-old striker Yoan Gouffran from Bordeaux.

goufrann

Yoan Gouffran – signed from Bordeaux

Yoan will give Newcastle what we haven’t got much of – speed up front -and he is a welcome addition to the Newcastle squad, and this lad is a very decent goalscorer.

The 26-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half year deal and the fee is estimated at around £1.2M, and the Frenchman will wear the number 11 shirt – the great Bobby Mitchell’s old number.

Gouffran’s contract was up this June at Bordeaux, which is why Newcastle got a really good deal for the former French U21 International, who began his career at Caen before signing for Bordeaux in the summer of 2008.

Gouffran said:

“I am really proud to have joined this fantastic club.”  “Throughout the last few years I have enjoyed every moment of my time at Bordeaux but all good things must come to an end and it was time for a new challenge.”

“And the challenge of playing for one of the most famous teams in England, with all of its history and its famous support, is very exciting.”

Yoan is really delighted to be at Newcastle and that’s always great to see, for any new player who joins the club.

This is what manager Alan Pardew said about his new signing:

“Yoan comes to the Club with a great pedigree and, like the other signings we have made this month, is a player who will add considerable strength to our squad.”

“I liked the look of him when we played Bordeaux at St. James’ Park earlier this season; pacy, direct and intelligent and those are qualities I like in a footballer.”

“I am sure he will quickly adapt to the rigours and intensity of the Premier League and play an important role for us for the remainder of the season.”

If you cannot remember who Yoan was when w eplayed Bordeaux, he is the one who was far too fast for our defense. :D

It’s simply great to have Yoan Gouffran at Newcastle.

    Well done Spuggy. Good effort.

I tried to explain this. I wouldn’t stand by as Pardew was wrapped for alot of problems he had no involvement in.

The facts are all there to be seen.

Whilst i agree he has made mistakes tactically. There is no manager on this planet who could of did any better with that squad with so many injuries and lack of quality in depth. He could of did things differently but the quality he had to choose from was never good enuf.

What ever people say, he has not deserved the criticism some people give him on here. Nor does he deserve anywhere near the sack. Its ridiculous really. Some people just dislike the bloke and our willing to divert/twist any sort of wrong doing his way.

The question and answer is simple really.

Would we be where we are in the league right now with the correct backing in the summer and the quality of depth brought in we needed?

    No we wouldn’t.

    I applaud your efforts.

Just checked him out on YouTube as I know nothing about him and I know it’s not a great way to tell how good a player is but he looks fantastic on there I hope he is as good as he looks scores with his head both feet and looks fast with some good runs in to dangerous positions welcome to the toon

Ed – hope your checkup gives continued good news.

  • 7 mkhalaf // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:11 AM

finally im first for once here!! anyway if the transfer window closes today I for one would be satisfied with the great job that ashley and DL did.
    1) kept collo
    2) recognized that we needed reinforcements thus they got a gr8 CB and an excellent fullback (debuchy/mpwia)
    3) managed to get a temporary replacement for BA (gouffran)
4)other than the BA situation (no their fault) they managed to hold on to all our players
    5) And they seem to also have two more players locked up (hadeira/sissouko)

    thats 5 players in January!!!!

now its up to the manager!! no more excuses

    @ 3

mate wait till end of feb to see were pardew gets us, we got easy games after chelsea that we should win, so until then i’ll keep note of your comments

  • 9 cndrbrown // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:13 AM

    Excited for this!
Can you imagine where we’d be had we done this in the summer?

  • 10 josh // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:17 AM

Although cheap I can imagine with his pace he is an ideal provider for cisse. Hell he might even get on the end of a corner. No im being stupid now lads, sorry, I apologise deeply and meaningfully :-)

  • 11 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:17 AM

    @ 9

maybe in the same position now with a few extra goals and less conceded, every thing from now looks good but will pardew sacrifice his star players ( jonas, shola ) i dont honestly dont think so, but hey he could finally change his pathetic hooball to actually keeping the ball on the ground

  • 12 BDin9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:18 AM

No easy games in the premiership. Gets even harder in the latter stages.

  • 13 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:21 AM

if we dont win against villa next Wednesday all will be lost, but for some reason i think we will crack them like an egg and cisse can finally crack in a hatrick and carry on from there

  • 14 toonicle // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:22 AM

For some reason I just have a good feeling about this lad. Seems to really want to be here and eager to show what he can do. Wonder if Pards will play 4-4-2 with him and Cisse?

  • 15 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:24 AM

i would have him on the wing he’s got pace and good control on the ball, 433 we should play.

  • 16 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:24 AM

Spuggy – Everything seemed to go against us from the west ham game onwards which is also when cabaye got injured.

After 10 games we had 14 points and had been playing garbage, talk of not gelling, cabaye being unfit or had his head turned and europe tiring us out.

In the 13 games since then we have amassed a mighty 7 points. Yes 7 points from a possible 39. That is inexcusable in our league when you have a squad of 25 senior players. I am annoyed we didn’t strengthen further in the summer but also with the rubbish performances, formations, subs and pardews persistence, arrogance and ignorance. He really grinds on me but now the board are backing him all we can do is see what the man has to do. No excuses now if we sign several players.

  • 17 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:27 AM

Ok spuggy is it not a fact that we have not won against a side previously managed by par dew this season

  • 18 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:27 AM

    nick-9

his next excuse will be language barrier, he will come out and say none of us can understand one another.

  • 19 true toon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:29 AM

Alright now that Gouffran is in , I believe that we need another striker like “wayne Rooney” type. A striker who can outmuscle def and plays deep to create chances for Cisse .

Benteke comes to my mind as one of the decent one.. 6 million shld be more than enough for him if Villa goes down.

  • 20 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:32 AM

Black and White Army – haha funny you should say that as it does have me slightly worried when he is giving instructions. I imagine the club have a translator or french coach of some sort.

Spuggy – Like Black and White just said we have sured up the defense with the signing of mbiwa, debuchy and maybe haidara so that should hopefully be less conceded. If Pardew can make the front lot tick then we could be a force. I just think aside from a few games before the two spankings we have looked far from a football team. I praise the club for making an effort now though but gutted the season is a shambles. If we could go on a run and finish tenth i would be extremely happy

  • 21 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:33 AM

    nick

Agreed lets see what the rest of the season brings.

I’m not here to convince anyone – I present the facts. Pards isnt faultless but he’s far from what people make him out out be on here.

    Of to bed.

    Night all!

  • 22 Spuggy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:34 AM

    @ daz

won against pardew teams – I fail to see how that is in any way relevant.

Anyhoo see last article @790 ish for my evidence is you’re interested. We aren’t gonna agree so lets agree to disagree.

Hopefully wake to more signings! Night

  • 23 nick_9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:34 AM

truetoon -Shall we just sticka bid in for Wayne Rooney? haha, I’m sure he could do a job here. I agree though i would like us to sign another striker but feel im being greedy now.

  • 24 bettyswallocks // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:35 AM

However many attacking players we sign in this window , don t expect to see them in the team for several months.

Pardew will need time time to instill in them their defensive duties and won t let them play until they are commited to tracking back.

  • 25 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:45 AM

    @spuggy
Your article only gives your opinion not facts. You don’t say Wigan down to 10 men most of game. The Ba goal at Reading was a handball.Or what the Opposition had in terms of players missing in games.

  • 26 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:45 AM

The fact he hasn’t gone should tell you he is not to blame for the disastrous season to date. Maybe tactically inept in games but deserve the sack? Ludicrous Daz.

The board are to blame for the gamble in the summer.

1st team players underperforming due to low confidence and morale due to the gamble by the board. They have underperformed all season since the start.

Lack of quality in depth. NUFC having to field fringe players/development through lack of cover.

Anita played all over the park. Its his first season, bedding in time. He has been played all over the park.

Lack of a consistent starting 11. No winning formula found, no rythmn. With European games to juggle also.

Pardew under enourmous pressure because of the boards gamble in the summer. Lack of quality in depth. Playing players he has no choice but to field that are no where near ready. Made tactical mistakes. Could of played this player here that player there. (Great in hindsight).

No consistent defence fielded since the start.

I sometimes wonder if we were sitting in 5th right now, how many ppl/posters would be discussing his wrong doings on here. I feel ppl are only noticing because they are looking for ine scapegoat. When in reality there is a hell of alot of bigger problems at NUFC in 2013.

He isn’t blameless. But he is not the reason we are two points from relegation. This is a fact.

  • 27 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:47 AM

He hasn’t gone because it would make the board look stupid for giving him an 8 year deal that’s the only reason.

  • 28 manxpie // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:48 AM

spuggy good posts but theres really no point you’ll just get shot down on here especially at this time of night
last seasons 5th place had nothing to do with pardew obviously! it was all good luck and every other team with shite managers :)
and i love how le blanc is the new messiah
you might aswell have dechamp as assistant while we’re at it that’ll keep ben arfa happy hey?? and why not bring nigel de jong in as defensive coach too
as check and the rest say CLUELESS!!

  • 29 manxpie // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:53 AM

daztoon so mike will gamble on losing 70 mill because of pardews 8 year contract that’s prob worth 8mill MAX
    don’t be shilly lad!

  • 30 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:53 AM

    Manxpie
Yes you are clueless if you agree with that load of tripe.
We played well lol that’s why we are in the position we are in.If he is such a good manager for getting manager of the year last season why are we so poor this season and don’t give all the stupid because of injuries excuse

  • 31 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:55 AM

Yes he will gamble on that he is a gambler. He doesn’t want to look stupid again how many mistakes has he made since he bought the toon

  • 32 obatoyou // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:55 AM

O, Gouffran can’t play in Europa League, because he’s already been registered with Bordeaux…. what about Mbiwa, Debuchy and Sissoko and Haidira?

  • 33 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 24, 2013 at 1:57 AM

    Daz,

That could well be a reason.

But why would they come out and hold their hands up for the gamble in the summer? Just let Pardew take the fall and change managers? They know they have made a mistake.

We all know Pardew is no Mourinho. But he has been placed under mass amounts of pressure this season with no backing at all from upstairs.

The bloke ain’t superman. How could he possibly replicate last season with one more first team player brought in plus extra games? We have been found out massively this season in regards to our quality in depth. Excellent first 11. Massive jump in quality in regards to our cover. 2nd eleven.

Thats being rectified now. Watch us climb the table. We will finish 10th or there abouts come the end of the season. But it would of been better had we had these extra squad players since the summer.

  • 34 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 2:02 AM

Is it being rectified though or are we just replacing players leaving or left.
Ba,Simpson,Colo,Tiote .We will just be in the same situation but still playing a plan A oops not working what do I do now.I know put Shola on take off Marv etc for dm and Hoooof

  • 35 manxpie // Jan 24, 2013 at 2:07 AM

haha stupid excuses of injuries!!? how about you look at the roeder interview (whos been there and got the tee-shirt)
but he must be covering for pardew too hey?
its not just the 1st team players but the players that replaced them last year that is the major problem as we’ve seen this year with the benches we’ve been able to put out
the raylors, goslings, vuckics, besties and notr having another CB to cover for the annual staylor injury
the board are well ahead of pardew for the blame game this season
shearer said you have to spend 20 mill just to stand still and he’s right (maybe not with carr on board) but the manager and team weren’t supported in the summer for there hard work last season (the best season we’ve had since sir bobby!!!)
now thats a disgrace! lets hope the good work over the last few days can pick the team and manager up for the last part of the season!!

  • 36 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 24, 2013 at 2:09 AM

Well, I think 3 signings so far through the door. 1 pending. And hopefully sissoko in. The bodys are in. Certaintly seems like it is being rectified.

Only time will tell with who goes.

Only williamson and simpson knock it long. That has been noticed and rectified also. We are playing the ball about alot better. Simpson and Williamson arnt good enough and they flap alot. Confidence issues.

Things will turn around, i’v got no doubts about that.

  • 37 Carl Cort // Jan 24, 2013 at 2:10 AM

i hope alan pardrew knows how to speak french! people wonder why the national team has gone down hill. surely there has to be english talent out there?

  • 38 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 24, 2013 at 2:14 AM

Bedtime anyway, catch yas later lads

  • 39 daztoon // Jan 24, 2013 at 2:16 AM

Of course Ashley and lamearse have to be blamed too but when Pardew was asked he said he was happy with the squad he had going into the season. As he hadn’t lost any of his best players and added a few.Manger of the year takes off Marv and goes defensive with 30 mins to go knowing he has Cabaye on who has just come back from injury who isn’t fit enough to manage 90 mins sheer class

  • 40 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 24, 2013 at 2:27 AM

    Daz,

Pardew screamed all summer for players. It was only when he knew he wasn’t going to be backed that he quickly bigged up the youngings and said we would be looking at finishing 10th.

He was let down. We all were. We finished fifth and we deserved to push on and invest. That affected the players, manager, coaching staff, fans. Everyone connected to the club. It was a ridiculous gamble.

Truth is we were very lucky with injuries last season. We fielded a consistent 11. Thats the major difference to this season.

We have had 56 injuries since july pre-season in six months. With extra games and suspensions. The board take the bollicking for me kidda.

    Gudnite

  • 41 Sir Braveheart // Jan 24, 2013 at 8:07 AM

    @Oba

Debuchy can play because he played in Champions league, not Europa League. I think the rules are as long as they havent either already played in the competition or played in Europe for a team who are now in the Europa League (for example a champions league team who have dropped into the knockout stages of the Europa league) then they can play.

Not sure how that leaves Mbiwa but Gouffran is out.

  • 42 woolerbill // Jan 24, 2013 at 9:42 AM

French players, when thing go wrong they will turn on you. Fall out with one and you fall with them all.

  • 43 barkintoonfan9 // Jan 24, 2013 at 9:58 AM

Lets face it guys none of us could really run a footbal club. We would do what we used to do and offer huge wages and would eventually run the cub into the ground. We have a; great scouting system, a much stronger squad and our youth system is coming on leaps and bounds. Who is the reason for this? Mike Ashley! Yes he has made big mistakes in the past but you can clearly all see how much potential the club has. We are the 20th richest club in the world!

  • 44 county down magpie // Jan 24, 2013 at 11:37 AM

Gouffrann = pacy direct striker, perfect foil for cisse imo. Other thing is he’ll be able to run onto the knock downs, run the channels And pull the defence around creating space for others. Gotta say im really happy with this signing

  • 45 davis_toons // Jan 24, 2013 at 6:29 PM

Yoan Gouffran looks a like a player of good technical abilities, he is able to slot in the ball into the net.

Hope he can get on with it fast enough.
