Newcastle To Sign Three More Players In January

2:43 pm, Friday, January 25th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 360 Comments

We expect Moussa Sissoko to be the fourth Frenchman to arrive at the club this week alone, and there is a decent possibility that Newcastle could add three more players to the squad, before the month is out.

jack butland 1991

Jack Butland – England International goalkeeper

It seems that Mike Ashley has realized he made a major mistake in the summer by not reinforcing the squad, and with Newcastle in relegation trouble he probably thought what it would be like for Newcastle to be relegated for the second time in four years – and that’s the very last thing he wants – and it’s also the very last thing the Newcastle fans want too.

I thought what it would be like to be relegated in May and I had to quickly rush to the toilet to vomit. 😀

Over  this last week Mike has got fully involved with the transfers, and he has overseen four new players arriving on Tyneside, and we think he will still try to sign up more players this month, although he may let a couple of them be loaned back to their clubs.

Newcastle are interested in Birmingham’s England and Great Britain goalkeeper – 19 year-old Jack Butland – who stands 6’5″ tall, and his club want to sell Jack in January to get some money into the club that Lee Clark currently manages.

And it could be that it’s less than £4M that could see Newcastle bring him to Newcastle – and then he would be loaned back to Birmingham City for the rest of the season to get first team games and build up his experience.

It’s a strange move for Newcastle, and will signal to Dutch International Tim Krul that his place will come under pressure next season, unless he shows the form he showed last season.

But it’s nothing more than Newcastle ensuring that every single position on the field is competitive.

And it would be novel to sign an Englishman too. 😀

As we reported earlier today Newcastle have already bid €3M for Bastia’s 19 year-old French midfielder Florian Thauvinm, and if  we are successful in  recruiting the top youngster – the club will loan him back to Bastia for the rest of the season so he can continue to get first team games.

And finally Newcastle still need another top striker to go with the three we now have on board in Papiss Cisse, Shola Ameobi and the newly signed Yoan Gouffran, and the news in Portugal is that Newcastle have contacted Sporting Lisbon about former target Ricky van Wolfswinkel, who we were  interested in when he was still at FC Utrecht back in the summer of 2010.

And the strange thing about Ricky is that he’s not French.

Ricky would cost close to £10M, but far better get him into the squad this month so he can play a third of the season, and then come August in pre-season, Newcastle should be ready to launch an attack on the top six in the Premier League, and we should have our best squad for many a season.

It will be interesting to see how many players Mike Ashley can get over the line before the transfer window ends next Thursday, but if  we can get the above three to Newcastle – it would be simply fantastic – and who said Newcastle didn’t have ambition?

Comments welcome.

Always doom and gloom with you….

If he signed 7 this window then I don’t think I could contain myself!! We could rest players, pick teams to suit the opposition and attack all cups in future. Go on Mike son! You crack on fella!

  • 7 toontillidie // Jan 25, 2013 at 2:48 PM

RVW would be the icing on the cake with sissoko undergoing medical and will be announced at about 5pm this evening Butland would be great to make tim fight for his place and as for thauvin another great acquisition for the youth development HWTL

I think from now on we should call him Cashley… our owner’s new name should be Splashley 😀 surely deserves a positive chant now

  • 10 cockneymagpie90 // Jan 25, 2013 at 2:49 PM

Can someone let me know what number sissoko will be waring?

  • 11 hdavid23 // Jan 25, 2013 at 2:50 PM

sorry, so we shouldn’t call him Cashley

  • 12 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 2:50 PM

Sorry to disappoint but Butland is a non starter.

He only wants first team football and hearing that Liverpool are pursuing him.

They plan to let barca follow up their interest in reina and then replace with butland.

Maybe now Ashley has purchased JJB and he makes loads of profit from Sports Direct, he might start putting loads more in to Newcastle.

Hes done a good job this window, now all we need is Pardew to get it right!

  • 18 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 2:52 PM

RVW, siem de jong, mirin, belhandra…..perfect players we need to take us on.

get RVW before end of jan and the others in the summer.

  • 19 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 25, 2013 at 2:53 PM

TS….And I bet that puppet Pardew is saying Ashleys doing well and that “We have enough depth now”. Fools from top to bottom at this club.

Can’t believe people are happy with the transfers so far, it’s simply pathetic.

My point re employment law was that it defends the big people not the little people. Sorry if that was not clear. I try to avoid political points for the same reason you do 🙂

    Back to footie

I reckon MA has seen a number of clubs with problem finances and is going for them to drive bargains with.
We may well have detailed scouting files on all these players anyway but he is being very opportunistic in picking his signing targets. Probably means RVW instead of PEA – here’s hoping.

Butland would be one cheapo goalie for £3-4m given his promise and RVW cheap at £8-9m though we missed him last time round he has mnore of a track record now. Still feel he’d double in value in a couple of seasons with the Toon.

  • 28 colwell // Jan 25, 2013 at 2:56 PM

For me Sissoko is the icing on the cake anyone else would be a bonus. Lets face it not one person on here could of imagined us signing the players we have and 5 of them.

  • 29 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 2:57 PM

    I miss indian…he is a friendly soul.

And I’m no blog legend…haha…Ashley is becoming a toon legend if he keeps this up though.

I wouldn’t get hopes up on Butland mind…I doubt he is coming, not heard a thing about us but a lot about liverpool after him to replace reina.

  • 30 richyg01 // Jan 25, 2013 at 2:57 PM

    3 More players?

According to RMC Sport in France (@RMCSport) Sissoko will be interviewed today at 4.00pm on RMC.

“Moussa Sissoko, the former midfielder of Toulouse, will be the guest of Larqué Foot, this Friday from 4: 00 p.m. on RMC. The French international will speak for the first time on his transfer to Newcastle formalized Thursday. Claude Puel (Nice), Franck Béria (Lille), Vincent Pajot (Rennes), Massadio Hague (Newcastle), Gernot Rohr (Niger) and Claude Leroy (DRC) will be also present in the show”

As far as RMC are concerned, it’s done and dusted!

I’m not greedy & don’t have a specific forward in mind but seen a lot of P.E.A & really think he’ll look quality in the PL but wouldn’t turn down RVW either ha!
As for Nile Ranger, he’s no example to any of are players “New or old, youth or senior” M.A needs to terminate his contract as Nile represents Newcastle and everything that comes with it, & I’m sure its damaging are reputation whether it is miniscule or not…!

MagpieMiles, MA wont pumpm any money from any other business in to NUFC, he will continually grow the product which is NUFC, we are now buying players full on, no instalments and the more money we can keep generating as a club the more he will use within the club, we are back in the top 20 richest clubs on the planet, not bad is at when you think we were virtually down and out not that many years ago.

Arsene Wenger is moaning about the amount of transfers being made by one club in the january window, what a bitter man he is, he knows we are tapping in to his well for our french players and dosnt like it, share and share alike Wenger, you have cherry picked long enough.

He is after David Villa from Barca, what a coup for the toon if we went after him, ok maybe a bridge to far at the moment but what a class player he is!

JP…from The Rock – how could you forget that £9M flop Albert Luque??

I can remember his first touch on his debut. He pulled a crossfield pass down from shoulder height on the byeline, beautifully dummied the full back and hit a superb swerving low cross into the box that nearly produced a goal.

That was the first … and last … good thing I ever saw Luque do (goal against 5under1and apart I suppose).

  • 79 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:31 PM

It’s all about extremes with some of you guys! Obviously the plan after the Summer was to see how many of the youth players could establish themselves in the first team. If a few had, and say we were in mid table or better, then we could have signed one or two top players where we were weak.

As it turned out, Sammy, Tavernier, Ferguson haven’t looked good enough.

The players we’ve signed won’t be on huge wages, but it certainly looks good. A striker as well as Sissoko would be great though!

Torq I know you are the expert on all things French

Was just wondering is it our black and white faith blinding us that much that we are all over rating all these frenchies.

If not then why are likes of Liverpool arsenal spurs Everton etc. not in for these players especially with the transfer fees involved.

Have these clubs seriously missed a trick here

  • 87 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:41 PM

And yes, I’d be very surprised if we sign Sissoko and 3 more! Butland makes sense though because we’d get a good deal for him and we’d be very unlikely to lose money on that one. This young French lad sounds like one for the development squad rather than this season, but Dogscock would be great! Although I don’t think that one will happen sadly…

I think we need to be prepared for a bit of roughness when these new players get on the pitch. They have quality and skill, I am sure, but they haven’t played together and with our existing side…there will be a lot of “I thought you were going that way” types of passes or turn overs. Our back four will get tested a lot against AV.

northernirishtoon – definitely overrating some of these Frenchies! But then sometimes a decent player in one league can turn out to be excellent in another due to the different style of play.

Gouffran is 26 I think with an average scoring record in a poor league, I don’t expect him to match Cisse or Ba for quality, but be more like a Ketsbaia for us. I’d be happy to be surprised though!

Haidara is a young back-up left back for Santon, Sissoko looks decent, but not as good as Cabaye. Debuchy could be excellent though, as could Yanga-Mbiwa. I think they both signed for us because of the French connection, and they’re both signed as starters. If they do really well for us, then in a couple of years a really big club (Utd, City, Barca, Real) might pay £20M for them and give them a chance to win trophies. I’ve got no problem with that.

    That’s my two-penneth anyway.

  • 98 GeordieDan // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:47 PM

Did the mackem’s new signing really say that?

    F***ing priceless. lol.

    Which one was it?

  • 99 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:47 PM

    @northern irish

Sissoko and Mbiwa are the real deal not sure about the others yet

It also depends on a lot of things like Everton don’t have anymore money till they sell Liverpool have just spent most of their budget on Sturridge

Don’t know why Spurs and Arsenal did not move for Sissoko might have been that we have pushed the boat out for him and with all the Frenchies here it might just have swayed him plus we have been looking at these players for a few years and will probably have kept in touch with them this can mean a lot to a player

It is also a risk to bring these players over as well maybe other teams did not want to risk bringing them in as they never fancied it??

Last season Wenger and Redknapp made comments on Toon’s transfer policy saying they had the chance to get some of the players but did not so maybe we have new legends or worse the new Alain Goma and Guivarch!!!

  • 100 Hatem's better than Messi // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:47 PM

He seemed to know about the French game.

  • 101 MNTOONARMY9 // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:48 PM

So, how many of these new players have “relegation release clauses”?

Would hate to get exctited, only to have Sissoko at PSG next Fall if something horrible happens this season.

  • 102 LooneyToon41 // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:50 PM

@95 and others. Interesting discussion. I’d only really seen Debuchy play once before he signed, and that was for France against England in the Euros…. and most people/pundits thought he was the best player on the pitch! I haven’t seen much of the others…
    In Carr we trust!

  • 104 LooneyToon41 // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:54 PM

@97. AVB at Spurs really wants Joao Mountinho from Porto , but price is £20-25m. So little budget left.
As for Arsenal… i have no idea what Wenger is doing or not doing ….. like most Gunners fans!

  • 105 JP...from The Rock // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:55 PM

Hatem – Yeah man these Spanish don’t stop pestering over here! They have the whole of Spain and still want our lil’ full-stop on a map that is Gibraltar-tossers!

Oh yeahh I forgot about Luque lol I was quite happy when we signed him I remember as he was awesome for Deportivo. He was a good player but never ever lived up to his potential here for some odd reason. What is it with these Spanish flops ey? lol

I bet if we were to bring David Villa somehow he would turn out to be a terrible signing 😛

  • 106 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:55 PM

    Mbiwa – Class act
    Sissoko – Class act
Haidara – Young prospect, havent seen much of him but he looks promising. He is very raw, and with raw talent it may just not be the right time to leave his current club so only time will tell.
Gouffran – Very fast player, can play on wings and striker. He is surprisingly good in the air so can be used as a target man in set pieces. He is average/good player I would say better than Obertan but is no where near the quality of Ben Arfa.

As for them settling into the team my guess would be Mbiwa and Sissoko will only be defo starters. Arfa is back in a few weeks which will most likely see Gouffran drop to the bench unless Marevaux is playing poorly.

Saying that Sissoko need only be better than Tiote this season and Mbiwa better than Williamson. Cant be that hard!

Would like to see us sign Douglas, and wouldnt be suprised if we sign Carroll back in the summer.

  • 107 cndrbrown // Jan 25, 2013 at 3:57 PM

  • 108 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 25, 2013 at 4:00 PM

Bigi was signed to provide competition to Tiote right? Harsh on him if he’s pushed back to 3rd in line when he hasn’t done anything wrong. But hopefully he will be spurred on to getting even better!

Sissoko can replace Tiote or Cabaye in midfield, so it’s a very good signing. Hopefully he’ll push Tiote to regaining his form of last season. I’d prefer Tiote/Sissoko on the bench for CM, rather than Bigi or Perch!

Hi lads extremly excited about our new signings and i dont care about what people say about us turning into the french legion the more french the better as they are technically much better and give much better value for money

sissoko 2 million allen 20 million you do the math ?

I do worry about 1 thing tho and thats the homegrown rule?

i think we are running out of oppertunitys to bring more good quailty players in due to this rule and probably going to have to look for english from now on unless we sell someone?

Does anyone know abit more about the homegrown rule and how it effect us as i think this rule could stop our chances of getting a new star striker and got to go for someone like graham just cause of where he is from!!

  • 112 Munster Mag // Jan 25, 2013 at 4:05 PM

So happy with the new ambition shown by Ashley – I’m getting tired of praising him now, but always said I would, and when we got Cisse etc. Funnily enough, Sissoko and Mbiwa wud be ideal for Arsenal – not sure why they didnt compete.

  • 113 Twatter // Jan 25, 2013 at 4:05 PM

Will be interesting to see what happens with Bigi, I don’t think he expected to be playing for the first team when he signed. Think it might be best for him to go out on loan – same for Ferguson, Sammy, Tav, Abeid, Dummett, Campbell etc.

  • 114 boater // Jan 25, 2013 at 4:06 PM

paw – Signing Douglas now? Assuming Willo is out the picture, who would you bench from M’biwa, Collo and him.. that’s not even including Taylor. There comes a point we can consider ourselves covered.

  • 115 Hatem's better than Messi // Jan 25, 2013 at 4:07 PM

The main thing now is that there is competition for places, right across the back four and DM.

It really does make a player try harder if there is someone on the bench looking to take his shirt.

I was seriously worried after Reading. Now I think we’ll pick up enough points. Keeping Cabaye fit is vital.

My general mood does get affected by our form.
My cheeks are hurting today … atrophied smile muscles.

U21 players are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players/squad.

if we lose harper and simpson in the summer then thats 2 more english players we got to buy to make up the rules or just use youngsters but im guessing thats why we are after butland 🙂

Competition for every defensive position now:
    GK – Krul, Elliott, Harper
    LB – Santon, Haidara
    RB – Debuchy, Simpson
CB – Colo, MYM, Saylor, Williamson

Plus, Raylor and Perch as utility players in defence, and youth players too.

The rest of the team is a little more fluid though. But I’d like to see a team of
    GK – Krul
    LB – Santon
    RB – Debuchy
    CB – Colo
    CB – MYM
    DM – Anita
    CM – Cabaye
    CM – Sissoko
    AM – Ben Arfa
    AM – Gouffran
    Striker – Cisse

But the second team is looking a bit better than before too.
    GK – Elliott
    LB – Haidara
    RB – Simpson
    CB – Saylor
    CB – Willo
    DM – Tiote
    DM – Perch
    CM – Bigi
    AM – Marveaux
    AM – Obertan
    Striker – Ameobi

We’ve put out teams no better than that second team this season. And there’s still Jonas and the “promising” players to come after that.

  • 134 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 4:35 PM

Douglas is so cheap right now, or as stated sign him on a pre agreement basis he will be free. Colo is 31, could leave in the summer.

This would be a perfect time to sign him now. Also if we did get him and kept Colo I would personally go to Mike Williamsons home and pack his bags for him as he is gash!

We are covered! But STaylor is injury prone, FACT!

Mbiwa and Colo are not exactly tall, or dominant in the air, they are both great readers of the game. FACT!

Therefore we need to replace Williamson as the likleyhood is he will be our main back up as STaylor will no doubt be injured.

Douglas is cheap, young and has the potential to be a great player. I would sign him with the view for 2 years time Douglas and Mbiwa being are central defenders!

I would then aim to sign Alderwield in the summer, if Colo does decide to leave and therefore we can still see the back of Williamson regardless.

I cannot stress how poor he actually is as a defender!

keeganjr – Colo may have been having personal issues for months and still coming in to do his job as far as we know. The fact is, if you’re doing virtually any other job and your family is on the line unless you change jobs, you do it. Family comes first for 99% of people.

Gotta feel sorry for Colo, but that’s the job he’s in. He gets paid £60kpw to remain under contract and be registered for us. His registration is currently valued at £7m. So if he and his wife think it’s worth £7m to leave…then that’s his choice.

  • 143 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 4:44 PM

    Keeganjnr –

People who ‘hated’ Ashley havent a clue what he actually did for us.

They are lost love for him when Keegan left, and am sorry to burst the bubble but Keegan RAN AWAY…. AGAIN!

He is arguably the best manager we have ever had, along with Sir Bobby, but lets be honest he was way past it on his return and should have never came back.

Ashley stopped us being the next Leeds, or Portsmouth infact had it not been for him we would have arguably been gone now!

Think people should show alot more respect, and not only because we have signed 4 players, possibly 5 in the next 24 hours! but because regardless the guy has made our club financially secure, self sustaining and well healthy.

All the clowns on here who go on about him like he is the plague need to actually deal with the fact had Mike Ashley not bought Newcastle, John Shepard and co would have actually ran it into the ground.

When Ashley took over we had no sponsorship money as we were still paying off Owens transfer fee. The club was 100m+ in debt, increasing with interest.

Wake up and smell the coffee. The guy has a plan, that will possibly take years but he openly stated he will change our structure similar to that at Arsenal. Buy players young, bring them up, sell them.

Fabregas, Pires, Henry, Toure, Cole, Vieira, Van Persie, Nasri, Overmars, the list goes on and on Arsenal do the same thing! And because of it have the ability to buy 2 good, potential great players for the sake of losing 1 current great player.

    Andy Carroll anyone?!

  • 147 yo-yo // Jan 25, 2013 at 4:47 PM

    Toon darnsarf

The Colo situation looks to have been handled pretty well by the club. Olive branch comments from Pards, keeping the captaincy etc.

Whatever has caused the crisis things have a habit of either getting much worse with time – especially if its medical – or gradually resolving themselves. Time is a great healer and if it is domestic then time in reflection reflecting by all parties might calm the situation and help him to make a more rational decision come summer.
If he has really poor form from now on then we’ll all know its not sorted or sorting.

  • 148 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 25, 2013 at 4:48 PM

    Feel sorry for Ranger? Eh???

There are loads of kids growing up in rough environments who will never have someone who will sit in their corner, try to do what’s best for them, and show them a clear path to what could have been a fantastic life. Ranger has had this with Southampton and now with us, we’ll have given him every assistance with his life, and he’s being paid a hell of a wodge of cash for (not) playing football.

I feel sorry for the kids that never get the chances. We could have taken the wages that Ranger has wasted and hired a hundred youths to do something useful. Even if just 1 out of the 100 had made something of their life, it would be more than 1 Ranger will ever do.

wingspan – I’d have Marveaux on the bench just because he rarely completes 90 mins and he hasn’t exactly got a track record of banging in the goals. We need a goal scorer to take the pressure of Cisse, and Gouffran seems to be it.

Sure, Cabaye and Ben Arfa will chip in with a few, Ameobi can score when he plays too, but Cisse has a lot of pressure on him, and I’d like to see him play with more of the freedom that he did last year.

  • 162 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 4:57 PM

I think its important we improve our younger players for the future!

Sammy, Vuckic, Amalfitano, Abeid, Ferguson and Tavernier havent impressed me from what I have seen of them.

Bigirmana is the only sure keeper for me out of those that have played.

Sammy – looks like he doesnt know what to do with the ball!
Vuckic – slow, although intelligent he is always injured!
Amalfitano – cant get ahead of Sammy, Vuckic, Abeid when fit, must not be that good!
Abeid – promising pre season, but looked very poor in his brief appearances since! Confusing but I think a loan out may improve him, or atleast allow us to see where he stands.
Ferguson – at times looks good, but he is lightweight, ok he has pace and can cross but he is meant to be a defender and he has no physcial presence, always looks lost. Personally I think he would be a better LM, but I think a loan out is needed to see what he can do.

Its somewhat unfair to judge these players though, especially since they play with each other when the have played. Its not like Abeid is being placed alongside Cabaye for experience! He is beside Bigi, or Perch.

I think we need to re evaluate them by sending them on loan and see what they can do, make sure they actually get a game though.

Curtis Good actually had a good game against Villa the other night, and thats the experience we need all our youth players to have, week in week out, 70-90 minutes on the pitch, competitive football.

  • 167 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 4:59 PM

As far as I know we have a bid in which is close to being accepted…just negotiating the fine details.

This is not a guarantee though, early stages of what I know but torq say he has heard similar so it seems possible

  • 168 wingspan // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:00 PM

I think Marv has a bit of an eye for goal given the chance and i think is a better player to be setting up Pappis.

I of course hope im wrong but I think Gouffran is a bit of a stop gap to be honest, i hope the kid does well but i wouldnt get your hopes up about him being sensational.

I see it as Debuchy, Mbiwa, Sissoko as top drawer players, amazing signings!

Haidarra as a player with massive potential, the guy just looks an athlete i bet hes rapid.

And Gouffran as a decent option but not a guaranteed starter. Like I say i hope he proves me completeley wrong!

Fantastic window so far, but it isn’t finished and too many people are getting carried away hoping we will sign yet more good players (which I’m quite sure we will – Hurrah!), but seem to have forgotten other clubs could yet sign good players – ours! There has to be reasons why we’ve signed a left back and are rumoured to be thinking of signing a keeper, for instance…………

  • 175 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:05 PM

pawl250 – Agreed. We need to loan out most of those players to Championship clubs and see which ones thrive. If we were in the top 6 now, I’d say loan out Bigi to a club in the bottom half too, but I don’t think that’s such a good idea!

It’s a shame about Vuckic though. I’ve seen him look good and then he gets injured. Sammy looks like another version of Shola.

But these players aren’t kids any more:
    Ferguson – 21
    Tavernier – 21
    Gosling – nearly 23
    Ama – 23
    Vuckic – 20
    Abeid – 20
    Sammy – 20

Bigi is just 19, but to put things in perspective Obertan is still 23 and some people seem to think he’s a no hoper!

Time for these players to prove themselves…

  • 176 wingspan // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:05 PM

And we know Pards wont drop Jonas, the reason for that is he thinks Santon needs help so theres only the right wing spot available, which is Marvs over Gouffran at the min for me.

  • 177 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:06 PM

Thauvins bid is being discussed by Bastia. I believe they want €5m, but we have offered €3m and for him to return on loan for remainder of season and 15% of a future transfer. As you may have worked out, obviously this does not total to the €5m they have requested.

This is a good bid for a ‘development’ player.

I think they are seriously considering it but no one actually knows if they will accept or decline. I think its a case of wait and see.

Gosling is an odd one. He sometimes looks like he has potential to be brilliant especially at Everton but he is ALWAYS injured.

He looks too slow to be on the pitch. I think he is a good technical player, if fully fit but he has been hampered by injuries. I would show him the door personally…. along with!

Harper, Simpson, Williamson, RTaylor, Obertan, Ranger and Xisco

I would buy players in a similar mold to Haidara and look to allow players like Streete and Campbell on the pitch in say a EL match, or LC matc.

I would buy the following replacements for sure.

Butland, Douglas, Thauvin, PEA, Siem De Jong.

I would call that a sucessful summer window.

  • 193 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:20 PM

wingspan – you’re right about Jonas, and he does try damn hard. But perhaps with the extra defensive cover that we’ve got, we can push forward more. Maybe even be able to play Tiote and Sissoko as defensive midfidlers in some games.

  • 194 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:20 PM

Sissoko or not this has proved to be a very good window with the additions of Debuchy, Mbiwa for sure.

Ba is the only negative, its such ashame that he left we would have had a very strong looking squad had he stayed, and we bought these players.

I think a replacement for Ba would be PEA in my opinion. In the summer. Aslong as we survive this year, whilst allowing new faces to gel, we can then focus on improving and possibly looking at the top 6 next year.

I still think Carroll will be back in our squad come August this year. Whether it be loan or permanent. I think he is a good addition, he has the same qualities or strengths as Shola but can use them, works harder and actually wins everything in the air. I feel he would be a good addition, aslong as we dont revert to hoofball! Especially with our midfield players now!

  • 195 check the toastie // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:23 PM

Gosling is rubbish, may play for West Ham, would suit a Fat sam team, no possession and people just getting on the end of things. Too slow in everthing he does, including engaging his brain.

Most of the young uns for me, the jury is out, it is not easy coming into a struggling side with other poor players (simpson, willo, Jonas, Shola) and expecting to shine, must young uns need to be threw into a team with real strength in and see how they do.

Bigi, Tav, Sammy seem to have something, personally could never see Fergy, Vuckic, Gosling(not young anymore), making it for us, amalfitano looks technically good but hasnt had a sniff for some reason. Inman, Dummet and Abied need a season long loan at a championship side to see if they have it, inman looks really good and well suited to the english game.

The slightly younger lads, Remie Streete and Young Campbell should remain with our 1st team squad and learn from our ‘purples’

In the PL, and our signings prove it, if you are not international class you are not going to cut it.

pawl – I think you’ve gone a bit overboard with your transfers out mate!

I think Harper has earned the right whether he wants to stick around as a back-up player, go into coaching, or go elsewhere. I can’t believe his contract is much anyway, and if he goes down to 4th choice then I’m sure he won’t want to stick around.

I’d definitely keep Willo, Raylor and Obertan as back-ups unless someone steps up from the development team and takes their place. Again, they’re probably not on huge wages so I don’t see us getting better for equivalent money.

Simpson will go to London either in this window or the next, Ranger should be chucked in the Tyne, and who is Xisco? 🙂

  • 202 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:24 PM

Harper, Williamson, Simpson (probs gone this window), RTaylor, Gosling and Ranger are home grown but they are simply not good enough!

Butland is homegrown, and as stated Streete and Camobell will be homegrown. I wouldnt get rid of any of them UNLESS we actually replaced them.

I lie actually I would still get shot of Simpson (contract expires so get something now), Harper (time to move on, and takes a decent wage) and Ranger (obvious reasons).

I would also look to let RTaylor move on simply cos he is on 40k+ a week and well I dont think we should pay that for someone who when all our team is fit may not even make the bench!

  • 205 Dagwoodz // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:26 PM

Love the fact that we have made these signings, with Sissoko hopefully finalized over the next few hours or maybe by tomorrow morning. It’s going to create a great atmosphere at the club where players are going to have to earn their spot in the starting 11 based on their form, not on their relative ability vs. their team mates.

With that being said, it’s kind of confusing to me that everyone is so quick to place HBA straight back into the squad after his injury. I haven’t seen Gouffran play, but at this moment it looks to be his spot to lose. HBA should be given cameo appearances to begin to get his match fitness back and have to simply outplay whoever Pardeux has playing at the time, whether that be Marveaux or Gouffran.

Haidara should be treated the same way, especially as he is so young. Not that Santon is that much older, but he has been blooded in the EPL already and knows what to expect.

Would be nice to see RVW signed this window, and S. De Jong signed in the summer window, as I don’t think we’ll be able to hold onto Cabeye or HBA. Hopefully the board realizes this, does the business early, and is able to get replacements in for them.

As for Colo…I’ve pretty much written him off as soon as the season is over. Would love to see Okore come in, as well as Sakho to create some serious competition for the two CB slots in the starting 11.

As excited as I am to see these signings, I’m still frustrated, (as we all are), to be in the position on the table we are in. My level of expectation for the club are that we’ll barely survive relegation, but wouldn’t be surprised if we do go down. That’s pretty bad considering the investment that’s been made in the club the past 20 days. “Cautiously optimistic” would be the best way to describe how I’m feeling right now.

side note: for everyone who is saying to get rid of Willo, I agree he is not to the standard that we need in our starting 11. But, he does serve a purpose. He helps us right now with the home grown rule, and he can put in a shift as a #3 or #4 CB. Losing Simpson and Willo is going to force the club to sign a British player…all of which are overpriced BECAUSE of the home grown rule. I honestly don’t see the club buying better replacements for those two, so any Sr. player that is brought in of english origin is just going to be coming in to warm the bench. That being said, Simmo is going to be gone this summer regardless. Bringing Butland in would take care of that, as far as # of home grown players go, but what about if we let Willo go?

  • 206 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:27 PM

Here is a true story about Harper. I have a client that plays golf often with Shearer and Harper etc.

He once asked Harper why did you stay at the club as a back up all these years when arguably you could play as first choice in another PL side.

He lifted his hand rub his thumb and fingers together and said cos its decent money!

Sorry but he has not got my respect!

  • 207 Santon03 // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:27 PM

if we signed 3 more that would be 8 players in this month (Debuchy, Sissoko, MYM, Haidara, Gouf already in). Do we really need to sign more players in summer? Maybe 1 CB if Colo is gone.
I don’t think we are going to compete in europa next season unless we win it, hopefully we do. Because that’s the only way to compete next season europa league.

I can’t imagine why we’d be paying him more as a back-up to Given (and now Krul), then another PL club would have as first choice. Doesn’t make sense. And definitely not under Ashley!

  • 213 check the toastie // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:33 PM

Really think everybody is missing the point with Jonas covering Santon.

Fact is, that if we have an attacking threat down the left hand side (Marv, Ben10, Goofy, even Obertan), then Santon can concentrate on defending and now and then support the team going forward. Currently Jonas is absolutely no threat going forward so Santon has that responsibilty as well.

As i say, people are really missing the point with Santon getting caught out of position, play Marv left hand side and tell Santon that his number one job is to put the opposition winger in his pocket.

If he fancies taking the winger the other way now and then, Anita or Cabaye/Sissoko will drop in and cover, Anita really should just sweep things up in front of the back 4.

This argument that Jonas looks after Santon is Rubbish, the fact that Santon has to get forward down that side or we have no threat is a reflection on how poor Jonas has become. If i see Pardew playing Jonas in front of Santon instead of an attacking threat then he again should be sacked on the spot.

Let defenders defend and attackers attack, Pardope.

  • 214 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:35 PM

We could easily replace carroll by simply putting up a lamp post just outside the 18 yard box, prob stay fit for the season and could have a better goalscoring record too!!!
And who said for him too come back he’d have to be on £45-60k! Seriously? Hes worth at tops £30k a week and even thats a stretch

  • 215 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:37 PM

check – that’s the point, if we play 2 defensive midfielders too. Let’s say Anita and Sissoko. That way, if Santon bombs forward to back-up Marv, then Anita can cover the opposing winger. Besides, MYM and Colo in central defence, we’re more likely to cut off through balls there anyway.

  • 216 Dagwoodz // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:37 PM

    Question for all of ya…

If these signings come good, what players do you think would be surplus to requirements come the summer transfer window?

I think that we have to loan out some of our younger players ASAP, otherwise we are going to ruin their career development as players.

All need to go out on loan.

We’re going to be losing Colo and Simmo at the minimum this summer. If we get Ferguson and Tavernier a little more first team experience, they might be able to develop into assets instead of bench warmers.

That last post is in response to previous discussion regards Santons ability, that cannot be questioned, the lad has the ability to be the best full back in the league, some people just cant see it.

Rubbish defender my arse, expecting too much some folk (21 year old), certainly, he needs to be told defending is his prmary job as the lad in front of him will open doors, rather than get down that wing as Jonas cant do it anymore.

  • 219 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:37 PM

    Rotanda I would take him,

Purely because when he was here he was a handful and worked very hard. I wouldnt start him though, I would merely see him as an improvement to Shola. Put him on for the final 10-20 minutes should we be down, or require somebody to hold the ball. Hell he even works back for defensive corners.

The only issue I have is simply his injuries are clearly a problem!

Still I would take an improvement on what we have. Cisse is the fox in the box, we dont need another fox. We need a target man for when we are getting bossed in midfield (should that ever happen given our midfield line up in the near future lol) and well the ability to throw on for a corner kick in dying minutes. He is a handful!

I would love to see him back for 5-7m would be brilliant to watch Liverpool eat humble pie!

PEA and De jong are good players, I would love them both but De jong for me is a replacement to Cabaye, or a competition for his spot. PEA is young, he will need time to adjust.

I think its important we get rid of some of our dead weight!

Harper, R Taylor, Gosling, Obertan, Ranger and Xisco need to go!

I would allow Street to become closer to first team football, or send him on loan, like Campbell! I find it ludicrous Campbell given the prospect he is does not see game time when thug boy Ranger does!

  • 220 nick_9 // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:38 PM

Arsene needs to give if a rest, he’s only worried about other teams strengthening and them dropping points in the next lot of games. If he wasn’t so afraid to spend some money Arsenal might actually look dangerous again. Everyone arsenal fan I know think he’s going soft with signing players.

Hope sissoko signs and its confirmed tonight, the sooner we get these in training together the better. Imagine bringing on gouffran and obertan as subs late in a game, speedy.

I agree with the suggestion of keeping Marv in rather than Goofy for the minute – it takes time to learn the pace of the PL and Goufran could come on as sub for 20 minutes -his pace against a tiring team (like Obertan??!!?) could be a real late threat and he could be eased in in that way.

I don’t understand how we could sign Carroll…surely it’s obvious that Cisse is only really happy in the number 9 slot. So is Carroll going to come back as back-up to Cisse? Fine if he cost £5M and took £30k max pw to do that, but I don’t see that happening…

If we switch to 4-4-2 to accomodate Carroll and Cisse, we have problems with accomodating our midfielders. We don’t have any top class wingers, but we do have several players that are capable of operating out wide.

Harper actually was on more money than Krul until Krul got a new contract believe it or not.

I know because I am aware of some people who do the audit at Newcastle. I know what Demba Ba was on, I also knew his clause did not expire, but I was never going to broadcast this after flabby chops opened his mouth.

I also know that Harper did say that, my client is a Newcastle fan, he would have no reason to lie and found it odd that someone like Harper would be happy to sit around and accept a pay cheque knowing it was for nothing really.

Look fact is he is motivated for the wrong reasons, money is important in life but I want someone who has ambition!

Look at Tiote when gets replaced he is angry, thats ambition! Someone sitting on the sidelines for the majority of his time in Newcastle what 13 years? maybe more!? Thats just lack of ambition, and greed.

I think its time he retires to a coaching role, since that what he is good at…. sitting on the bench!

5 wins will put us on 36 points, that’s well within in this new look NUFCs capabilities. And that should ensure Premier League safety, as I can’t see anyone below us putting a unbeaten run together!

Pointless getting butland as we let go a good keeper in the summer for very little so why spend more to bring in much of a muchness ?

  • 230 Dagwoodz // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:45 PM

I think Arsen Wegner was just giving his opinion to a question that was asked of him by the press. Typical fishing by the media, and I don’t put too much weight behind it.

Also, I think his PP was seriously smacked by his board when he signed a bunch of players back around ’07 and quite a few of them ended up being flops, or getting seriously injured and not ever regaining what form they had in the first place. All that probably made him very gun shy at laying out the money during the transfer windows.

  • 231 Spotlight Kid // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:46 PM

Just remember, you can only play 11 on the pitch at any one time. And given the starting line up has looked pretty good on paper many times this season, yet still failed to deliver, the joy unbound currently sweeping through fans seems to be somewhat premature. Villa is a good test, and given they will have played 2 extra games over the week it should be a walk in the park for the new foreign legion, shouldn’t it?

  • 232 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:47 PM

pawl – I’m not saying that Harper didn’t say that, I’m just saying that people say things for different reasons. I also know that Harper was on more than Krul until recently, but then didn’t Harper accept a new year long contract last Summer? I bet that was on reduced wages.

So as a fan, you’re slating a guy who has played for his hometown club his whole life and generally played pretty damn well when called upon for not having the ambition, and players (like Carroll, Ba etc.) are slated for leaving for clubs with more money and a better recent track record of winning trophies. Sounds like players can’t win!

  • 233 boater // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:48 PM

check – Nice try but Jonas is not responsible for Santon losing the ball and getting caught out of position all day long.

I enjoy watching Santon’s marauding infield runs but he loses possession too frequently, and seems to lack any urgency in getting back to atone for it.

  • 234 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:49 PM

ToonDownSouth – We still have homegrown players though!

Bigirmana (i think he is english/something else)
and anyone we dont sell for that matter unless we replace them. We have enough homegrown players,

Your making a fuss over nothing, we can easily accomodate the loss of 4-5 ‘home grown’ players. We need simply replace them with better squad players! BUT we should replace them first, before attempting to offload!

  • 235 nick_9 // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:49 PM

Mattnufc – it will be a big of an anticlimax if Willo and Jonas are in the starting eleven versus Villa. I think Pards did say the new boys have to step up straight away though. They will do well to get some time under their belts before an important game against Chelsea at st James. For me depending on how gouffran and mbiwa do in training if they look ok I would give them a start, same with sissoko if he signs soon. I’d play a 4:2:3:1 or a 4:3:3 with krul, Debuchy, mbiwa, colo, santon, Anita, sissoko?(if not then perch) gouffran (or obertan) cabaye, marveaux and cisse.

  • 238 check the toastie // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:54 PM

Surely the team against Villa (if Sissoko doesnt go to QPR or Real Madrid) would be-

    Debuchy Mbiwa Collo Santon
    Cabaye Sissoko
    Gouffran Marveuax

Marveaux should start instead of Jonas for sure, dont think he will, just dont trust Pardew to play his best attacking players, he has such a bad history of getting talented players to defend, he is a moron in that respect.

However the booing of his negative subs and the fact that Big Mike is now keeping a serious eye on how things develop may make him change his outdated shitty philosophy of strangling his sides creativity, there has actually been improvement lately for me.

  • 239 yo-yo // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:55 PM

Santon IS the real deal but as you say a work in progress. Still has to master his trade. Yes he has left defensive holes at times and yes Pardew seems to have played Guti as a ‘minder’. Carver did say they were thinking about moving him upfield but my view is RW not LW as we need a natural left footer as LW so we can get to the by-line and not cut in all the time.

Totally agree that the entire balance of the side will change now – though Marv says he prefers inside left or ACM. We’ll just have to wait and see. Guti gets match time for me because of his work rate, he is def slowing down now and might need to gravitate to LB even. I think he’ll end up as a squad player in the next year or so.

  • 240 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:56 PM

Krul is the only homegrown player that looks like a starter now. The only others likely to get on the bench would be Saylor, Raylor (when fit), Bigi, and Shola. Not a single Englishman in our starting 11, let alone a team of Geordies!

  • 241 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 5:56 PM

Harper should have left if he was that good he would have.

His performances recently show him for what he is, old and washed up.

Hes been a servant of the club, but for the wrong reasons stayed as long as he did. We certainly have given him more than he has given us.

I think its time to move on!

I respect Carroll for leaving us in many ways, it showed ambition to leave. I dont agree with the way he did it but I am told with confidence it was infact the board that asked him to move on for the amount of money being offered. He also got 80k a week in the process, became the highest english fee in history AND never once stated he want to leave other than the dummy request the board asked him to lodge for stability as fans would turn outside the club demanding it to be sold.

Also the 35m is not, and has never been used for those that keep saying MA finally found it. It was absorbed by the club to balance the books from the 30m loss when we were relegated.

toonarmydownsouth, by the time we ship players I want gone the majority of those players I mentioned who are 20ish now will be ‘homegrown’

I do want to see Williamson gone, but only if we find a suitable replacement.

I am confident selling those players mentioned we could still accomodate to the rules required.

Also R taylor is on 40k+, unless he signed a new contract recently which I am not sure if he has.

Colo and Jonas took wage cuts in their last contract negotiations.

  • 248 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:01 PM

Gorgonzola, our next match is on Tuesday as its FA Cup weekend, unfortunately we got knocked out by Brighton.

This means we can sign him over the weekend and he can play at Villa, however I think Pardew will put him on the bench given the limited amount of time he would spend with the squad from signing, until match day.

  • 249 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:02 PM

toonarmydownsouth/pawl – Surely we can just register an under 21 year old who is homegrown in our 25? Even so, at the moment we’ve got:

And it’s not that we have to name 7 (actually I think that should be 8), but we have a maximum of 17 non homegrown players over the age of 21.

  • 250 nick_9 // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:04 PM

Check I’m with you on santon. He can be told or learn to track back more/quicker but I see no problem with him getting forward if a DM covers. If we played 4:2:3:1 with a midfield defensive paring of Anita, tiote or sissoko then one of those should fill in if Debuchy or santon progress. I find it more concerning when players do not look behind or around them. Santon needs to be told to bust his @ss to get back and look round more, aside from that he is a good wing back.

  • 251 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:06 PM

Toondownsarf, Toondownsouths point is I would like to see most of them sold.

    Raylor – SOLD
    Gosling – SOLD
    Simpson – SOLD/FREE

Saying that as I have stated I would only want to sell them IF the players are replaced with better ones. Why else would you sell them?

  • 252 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:06 PM

pawl – you’re talking sense about the £35m at least! Football Manager fans who think that selling a player for £35m means that much is in the transfer kitty are not living in the real world!

The fact is, that each year, Ashley and his team are trying to balance the books and make as much money available for transfers as is possible. I have no doubt that what you say is true, that Carroll was told to move on for that amount of money. I also believe that Carroll (or at least his agent) would have asked Newcastle for more money when the £80k pw was dangled in front of him. This probably led to the board accepting the offer as it was either get the £35m and save his wages, or have to actually pay out and up his wages to say £60k pw when they didn’t think he was worth it.

Currently supporters should be chuffed to bits they have Santon at the club, he is really happy, busts his gut on the pitch, appears to really care and for me is clearly a full international in the making and at some point cruelly will make the club loads of profit when he moves to a bigger club, personally think the lad is going to be immense in time, just needs to get a bit nasty and he will be complete.

Bit soft for an Italian defender, but any complaints about his performance and position in the team are really not seeing the big picture with the kid, he is class, in fact classier than class.

  • 256 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:11 PM

pawl – even if you sell that lot and replace them with non-homegrown players, we’d still have this lot as over 21 players for our 25

So granted, that leaves 4 slots for either Harper, Raylor, Willo, Gosling or Simpson to fill, or for us to sign someone else. Or we just registera homegrown under-21 player to fill the slot (e.g. Tav, Bigi, Sammy, Ferguson etc.)

Personally I’d keep the first 4 and also Willo and Raylor.

Why are so many people on here suggesting we sell players like Ryan Taylor? We had a wafer thin squad before this window, these signings are a crucial step to rectifying that. Besides we need these English players who make for good squad players and can play in numerous postions.

  • 261 Special K // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:17 PM

I’m struggling to see where the Harper hate comes from, his contract expires at the end of the year and he’ll more than likely retire and in my opinion he should be given a testimonial.

Harper earns £25,000 a week, pretty much a standard wage for a back up goalkeeper, so don’t really see the issue there. To be honest I’d imagine he was on peanuts for the majority of the 90s so if he earns a couple thousand more than he’s worth for the twilight of his career I’m not fussed.

The guy, in the same way as Shearer, has lived his dream by playing for NUFC. If you watch any interview with him, you can clearly see the passion he has for the club and would be an absolute asset as a Goalkeeping coach down the line.

Whilst I’m encouraged the club has at last adopted a proactive recruitment policy (all be it because of their negligence and failure to strengthen in the summer) I still think we are glaringly short in the goalscoring department. Gouffrain is an unknown quantity in this league and Cisse has been very poor this season.
Great that Colo will have the chance to at least play with a proper footballer (for 3months anyway). Mike’s desperation to stay in the league and see the tv money next year has driven all this activity – let’s just hope the new arrivals can all gel and hit the ground running. At least the departures will probably wait until the summer now!

  • 264 JP...from The Rock // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:19 PM

Ligue 1 may not have the big 4 like the PL does, but they aren’t a pub league either. Gouffran is high on confidence and was scoring goals at Bordeaux so I’m sure they’ll come, provided Pardieu plays to his talents.

Any fan of football would give so much to be in his position and the positive attitude of our new recruits is a stark contrast to rangers.

  • 275 pawl250 // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:28 PM

Personally for me I have a strong desire to play an attacking left back like Santon, Baines, Debuchy in midfield on the wide side. Then play a natural attacking right back like those players behind them.

An example for England which I think would have worked and would work well is Baines and Cole

With Baines as left midfield and Cole left back they have the ability to overlap the player whilst still having a decent defender to cover the break. This would work well, especially considering these two players are world class.

The reason I feel this is a good think is it would benefit defensive situations instead of having Marveaux or Ronaldo or Nani defending you would have a more competent defender but at the same time with the likes of a Santon you would see a very strong attacking presence.

It wont work at Newcastle, atleast not yet unless you place Santon as right winger being he is right footed, he could swap with Debuchy and overlap. I wouldnt like to see this occur if it meant no Arfa but its a very good concept I think you will see in the future.

  • 276 solano // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:28 PM

Norcal….fair point, but a look at the league table and the fact that Newcastle United is indeed a goldfish bowl, ensures there is no honeymoon period to adjust. The pressure is on.

The thing is Gutierrez has lost it going forward and it might be a better bet trying it with the new kid on the block Haidara. Then again we would be putting squared pegs into round holes again and it’s best playing them where they are most comfortable at, and if they don’t perform swap em’ for the next on on the bench, now we have depth at long last so we can replace them if they aren’t doing da bizzness 🙂

    Over the moon!!

  • 305 ONLINE GUY // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:40 PM

Sissoko is a 20 million value player ..Wenger has got green eyes this window ..he also missed out on Mbiwa, Debuchy and Cab,.. He might be about to miss out Flauvin . Wenger thought he had the market cornered when it comes to French player’s ..He sniping at us now.

There is going to be a lot of sniping jealousy over the Sissoko signing. What a great Footballer..World class now.

  • 306 ONLINE GUY // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:42 PM

Sissoko worth ..year and a half’s time we will be fending off £30 mill bids .

Just popped over to RTG and the Mackems are in full force. Oh, you can SMELL the jealousy. And their armpits, too.

  • 320 solano // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:47 PM

Online….negative/realistic (I though sacking Llambias would be positive)….at least we have got players over the proverbial line for once, before we sell…i don’t think it is a wind change as far as overall strategy goes, but desperate efforts had to be made to ensure we give it a good go at staying up.
Balancing the books will occur if/when we secure Premiership survival….fancy a wager on it? That will depend on our survival….if not, it will be a bloody exodus which doesn’t bear thinking about. Best think of villa, prepare, hope and deal with it as it comes. 😉

Ou est Le Prison pour Ashley? You thought about changing your name yet or are you keeping it for iron’s sake? 🙂

Speaking of which – Wenger obviously dreads the irony of his team being whipped by a quality outfit brimming with top French players.

  • 330 check the toastie // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:50 PM

    Krul > De Gea
    Debuchy > Rafael
    Mbiwa > Ferdinand/Jones/Smalling

Why couldnt we win the league.

    Pardew <<<<<<<< Alex Ferguson

Its a shame Pardew cant set the team up properly and get is playing super high tempo quality one touch pass and move football, he talks a good game and it is clear the players actually like the fella, a cross my fingers and hope he can take this team were it should be and that is top 4 now, first eleven is miles above teams like Everton's if we are below them it is a reflection on Pardew.

  • 331 p // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:51 PM

The point of that last post is we match Man Utd as a first eleven, it didnt quite come out like that as i have had a few pints, but for sure i go to the next home game against Chelsea thinking we are their equal.

Is this the end of our transfers then?

Im over the moon, but is that it? I really don’t know what to expect!

I really don’t think it is. 5 players, wow.

Should we really be greedy and want more? Haha.

  • 343 JAMSHA // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:59 PM

Yesssssssssssssss 🙂 WHOS GONA SIGN TOMORO ????? Maxime Gonalons??

  • 344 ONLINE GUY // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:00 PM

Solano..I started to worry about you ..almost got to thinking you had Mackem tendencies ..Joke….

Losing the odd player is a natural progression for any prem club.. But it will have to suit us ,,and would cost any innerested club a fortune ..As you and I know.

Looks like we missing out on Thauvin..Wengers in for him…we will increase our bid .

  • 345 naptoon // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:00 PM

33 mins out but he can have a by and this makes up for the times hes been wrong . lol

  • 346 solano // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:00 PM

nap…the blueprint was published over 2 years ago….ensuring sell on profits for our best players…what we need to do is have an ethos and playing style and an ongoing proactive strengthening policy to ensure the best players want to stay for the full term of their signed contracts and the club moves forward into the higher echelons of this league, rather than being a ‘stepping stone’ on a career path

  • 347 naptoon // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:02 PM

i think we might see another couple of signings

  • 348 solano // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:04 PM

Online…..if Colo goes in summer we should be signing another cb for Mbiwa otherwise we will be back to square one…that would indicate we are trying to build something a bit more substantial…here’s hoping!

  • 356 cockneymagpie90 // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:23 PM

Why have i got a feeling pardew will field a 442 like this against villa..

And bring on the likes of mbiwa, sissoko and gouffran when we are (not suprisingly) losing.

I know why!!.. because he hasnt got a scooby!!!

Its not a bad line up i know, but no where near this 4231 line up…

Lets hope im proved wrong on tuesday and he goes with something similar to this!
