Newcastle’s Nile Ranger In Big Trouble – Again

11:56 am, Friday, January 25th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 185 Comments

21 year-old Newcastle striker Nile Ranger has been arrested on suspicion of rape, and is being held by Northumbria Police following an allegation made by a woman, that she was attacked at a hotel in Jesmond overnight.

nile ranger - in court yesterday

Nile Ranger – in trouble with police once again

This is not the first time Ranger has been in trouble with police over the last 20 months or so, but this is the first time he has been accused of rape.

This is what a Northumbria police spokeswoman said:

“On Thursday January 24 a woman reported to police that she had been raped overnight at a hotel in Jesmond.” “A 21-year-old man has been arrested at an address in Forest Hall on suspicion of rape.”

Newcastle would love to unload the 21 year-old, and it was telling that Alan Pardew said he would have liked to have brought on another striker in the second half against Reading last Saturday – but didn’t have that option – even though striker Nile Ranger was on the bench.

And the London lad angered Newcastle fans after the Reading defeat, by telling them not to come to the games if they were going to boo the players.

A Newcastle United spokeswoman declined to comment on the story this morning.

This could be big trouble for the 21 year-old.

  • 5 Twatter // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:01 PM

Just terminate his contract… Surely they must be able to after all these criminal offences?

  • 6 AMEOBI // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:02 PM

Raping a woman last night in jesmond hah! Lad they’re keen as fk up there I don’t see why she’s complained though

  • 7 Spotlight Kid // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:03 PM

He’s been an accident waiting to happen for years, and NUFC have turned a blind eye to him. The club even gave him the distinction of representing it in the FA Cup – on that basis alone NUFC deserved to lose.

He’s apparently on £3.5k per week, which is £3k per week above the average wage, and £3.5k too much. But that’s the problem when footballers are chattel – just hand on and hope someone bites for a million or so – meanwhile let him bring the club into disrepute time after time.

This is is not about the latest allegations – everyone deserves a fair hearing – but does include the crass stupidity with the £20 notes and his other assorted misjudgements, felonies and transgressions over the years.

Instead Ashley lays down the law with Colo, a model pro and club captain. Is he simply scared of doing the same with Nile Ranger? Sick inducing.

  • 8 DonegalMagpie // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:03 PM

As much as I’m not a fan of ranger, this could be pure bull….. easy target. But we shall see…

Anyway it is time to move him on …simply because he isnt dedicated to the game of football.

Newcastle United needs as much positive news as possible. The last few days have been great !!

  • 9 toonfield // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:04 PM

whether he is guilty or not, he keeps getting himself in these situations

  • 18 Tekkers29 // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:09 PM

first of all we all know this guy is an idiot but we can’t just act like he has been proven guilty and sack him as he could then take us to court.

i will be the first one to say he should not be out our club in the first place after all the s**t in the past but you can’t just sack someone for being questioned. look at how the mackems acted when bramble was in trouble and he got cleared.

But if he is proven guilty there is no doubt that he will be sacked.

  • 19 Markaccus // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:10 PM

Ever since the BS claims about dyer’s “roasting” claims, it has become almost imposible to spot the real cases. I can believe this was real though, the guy is a total tit.

  • 20 Big Pappa Cissé // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:11 PM

What does he have to do to have his contract terminated ?, the guy is a scumbag and I wouldn’t p*ss on him if he was set on fire. I don’t think I have ever hated an NUFC player as much as him, although Barton & Bellamy come close

Get this scum OUT. In the best week for the clubs PR in recent years you can rely on Ranger to drag Newcastle through the mud once more.

  • 23 Twatter // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:13 PM

It’s notoriously hard to ever charge someone with rape though, because it’s usually just one person’s word against the other, with usually little in the way of concrete evidence. With that being said, it wouldn’t surprise me – the question is: what was he doing out last night in the company of women when there’s training today?

Surely there must be some clause in his contract so we can dismiss him. Most of us are stackable if we get a criminal record, I really hope it’s the same for this liability. Does anyone know how long Ranger has left on his contract by the way?

  • 24 Hatem's better than Messi // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:14 PM

According to France Football, Newcastle remain keen to add to their ever-increasing French contingent, with St Etienne’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bastia’s Florian Thauvin, Lille’s Nicolas Isimat-Mirin and Guingamp’s Gianelli Imbula all said to be on Alan Pardew’s wanted list.

  • 27 yo-yo // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:16 PM

I know a Frenchman wgo is also a Fernch teacher so I will get the proper version of le Toon in French

I think its Nouveau Chateau sur Tyne

but it might be Chateau Nouveau sur Ttyne

or even Chateauneuf as although neuf is nine there is a place called Neuchatel which is Swiss French

If we’ve got ten French guys in Toon the least we can do is get the translation right :)

    Anywaywy back to business

Will we get our No2 striker through the doors or not ?
Personally would prefer PEA as he is LW/ST but Torq rates RVW so who’d fit best with Papiss ?

We may all be surprised and find we’ve got a superb bargain in Gouff.

  • 28 surreytoon // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:16 PM

    On another subject..

So assuming Sissoko signs today, Thavin is 50:50… who thinks there will be any additions beyond those, what position and who and probability…?

    My guesses:

    Mirin – CB – 20%
    Aubameyang – FWD – 20%

  • 29 Bambams // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:16 PM

Tell you what, Arsene obviously rates our signings! Just seen him on ssn and he is complaining that some clubs have already played the toon twice, but now we have almost a new team so its not FAIR !

  • 30 toonaids // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:16 PM

i think Pardews keeping him on the basis he might, in his words, ‘rape’ an oppositions defence.

  • 31 Twatter // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:17 PM

Whether he raped someone or not, he shouldn’t have been out so late.

  • 32 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:17 PM

Look even if he is proven innocent

We still need to get rid of him as he is still going to cause trouble can imagine that model professional’s like Cabaye at our club are disgusted by his antics

Problem is releasing him just now would mean paying him money which could result in us not buying another Frenchy!!

  • 33 Markaccus // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:17 PM

He might have tried to do it, but probably missed the target, and shot way over the top.

  • 34 stuart no9 // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:18 PM

i have never been a big fan of ashley, however if he would just make it straight and simple by telling this scum bag -yob- and perhaps rapist- as well as being a sh/t footballer, that he is not wanted at our club then 1 person hold the door open while ashley boots him straight up the a”’se that hard he lands in monument metro just in time for a train to take him to central to catch a train back to the smoke, i might start warming to him.- just a little.

Not even bothered talking about this idiot anymore…as far as I see it he isn’t a toon player he is just a leech on the wage bill. Never have liked or rated the guy, useless.

On more interesting news…hearing reports Valenciennes (sorry on spelling) are making a move for CB…could it be the replacement for mirin?

is torq about? he might know

  • 37 Toonarmlee // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:19 PM

  • 38 surreytoon // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:19 PM

  • 40 bills-son // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:19 PM

I’m sure if he could’ve been sacked previously that would have happened – it just shows how crazy employment laws are in this country that NUFC cant get shot. The whole employment law system is crazily in favour of the employee and its the type of stupidity that allows idiots like Ranger to keep their jobs.

  • 45 TorqToon // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:22 PM

Yo-yo > We DO have a bargain with Gouffran mate! He has kinda come in under the radar – but will do very well at this club.

So the debate is PEA or RVW ???

I would stick with RVW. Ability wise I would say they are on an even keel, but to work with Cisse I would say RVW is the better match. And then you move on to the personality aspect – as a person, I tend I think that RVW is the right man. Hard working and determined. PEA can be a bit highly strung at times – but in fairness

    ID TAKE EITHER!!! :-)

  • 51 Bambams // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:24 PM

Dont bite my head off…..I was told he is on £6k a week when he first signed his contract, this would improve greatly depending on circumstances (games, goals, behaviour) so he will probably still be on £6k each week. Still £312,000.00 per annum for a ‘gangsta’…..

Always trouble when his ‘crew/family travel to stay with him. or so i was told by this bloke in a bar….

  • 54 tequilamag // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:25 PM

“Let’s talk about rape for a moment. Rape is not what George Lucas did to your childhood. Rape is not what happens when a sports team beats another sports team by a wide margin. Rape is not what happens when your electric bill is higher this month than it was last month. Rape is when a person violates another person in the most despicable, degrading way imaginable and among the myriad of terrible things humans can do to one another, rape is among the worst. I think the casual misappropriation of the concept of rape extending all the way to its widespread comical usage is disgusting even by Internet standards. Off my chest.”

I think we could have got shot previously with his convictions and lack of professionalism.

The problem is why get shot of somebody when you might be able to sell them and make money….thats one of the problems with football…these idiots get a chance because there is a financial incentive.

make im clean the shitters out

  • 58 Twatter // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:26 PM

Actually no, employment laws favour the employer far more than the employee at the moment. At least in the private sector, which is what we’re talking about. It seems that Nile is benefitting from public sector-style employment security at the moment though. I’m just very surprised Mike Ashley and Newcastle United haven’t exercised their legal right as employer to dismiss him based on his criminal record. Disregarding this rape allegation, he’s still got into all sorts of trouble, as we all unfortunately know.

  • 59 tequilamag // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:27 PM

Having said all that, there is a world of difference between an allegation and a conviction. Let the police do their job and see what happens before we get up a lynch mob

  • 60 surreytoon // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:27 PM

The problem that Wenger/Arsenal have got is that they already have 2 players for each position, plenty of kids in the wings, and to be absolutely sure that a new signing is better than an existing first team player, he will have to go for acknowledged World Class types such as David Villa which he has admitted he can’t afford. In summary, they can’t financially compete with the Man City, UTD or Chelsea

The ONLY conviction that Ranger has are those apportioned to PRISON. I’m not gonna say the lad is guilty as there are always two sides – but this lad is ALWAYS surrounded around trouble. I have been to two employment tribunals in 30 years of working – one public sector, one private. One case settled out of court and one I won but got no compensation because the law is in favour of the enmployer.

The laws are the same for public and private but it is a lottery on who you get as chair of the tribunal.
There is very little employment protection in the UK for your average worker. I’ve been dumped on by several employers during my working life. There are some bad people in charge. My best employers have been fantastic to work for mind and you’d do anything to help them out. I’m no workyticket.

But Ranger – I’d risk sacking him anyway. He must have committed some gross misconduct or there be a clause about bringing the club into disrepute. He’s only been kept on due to the severe shortage of forwards. IMO Ranger needs a social worker or shrink to get him right.

Little bit of inside track on Nile Ranger

When i was living in Newcastle i had the same cleaner as Ranger, a polish lady. She said that every time she went there to do the cleaning / pick up or drop off clothes to be washed and ironed Ranger had a different girl. She did not use the term chaver but she suggested these women had no class.

When she first started working for Nile she said he was a nice young boy. We are talking roughly 3 years ago. She also met his brother and sister who thought they were big time because they were the sibblings of Ranger but she said still Ranger was grounded. Then she met his girlfriend Shakiera who said was different to the women he had been with. She suggested they were both nice. Then Shakiera moved perminantly to Newc from what i could gather and she turned into a WAG being nasty to the cleaner. Then Ranger started to turn bad. In the end the cleaner had enough.

Obviously Ranger was bad to be thrown out of Southampton but going on what the cleaner told me he was taking the lifeline thrown to him by us when he first came.

But he has certainly gotten into the wrong crowd, maybe easily led and has become bad again and in this present case very bad.

  • 92 boater // Jan 25, 2013 at 12:52 PM

Bills son – If the club are only sticking with him because of restrictive employment regulations – how come he is being included in matchday squads? There’s no law to stipulate he has to play. He’s a financial asset and they could terminate his contract at any point.

Perhaps they were both drunk. Or perhaps she did consent, and then realsied what a mistake she made. Who knows??

Lets just settle down on this until the full picture is known.

It’s interesting that because of who has been accused, everyone wants him out of the club. What if another youngster had been accused, would there have been the same backlash? I think not.

As someone mentioned earlier proving rape is an awfully difficult process. He might just even be wholly innocent of the accusation.

The police will conduct a thorough investigation to hand to the CPS who will make a decision on what, if any, charges to bring.

In the meantime, let’s just concentrate on our new signings and get a win at Villa.

Well, I guess it depends where exactly in the public sector you’re talking about, but NHS workers for example are much better protected than those in the private sector. I agree though, having studied employment law, there is still far too much power given to the employer in my opinion, especially since the government only recently scrapped laws which protected private sector workers from appealing unfair dismissals etc. But there can’t be any argument that the protection for the average worker has improved greatly over the course of the last 50 years.

  • 111 G // Jan 25, 2013 at 1:01 PM

@post 104, I’ve known innocent people that the scenario has happened with, and from what I hear it’s a thoroughly unpleasant process. Nontheless rape is an absolutely abhorent crime, and any claim, regardless of who is accused or accusing has to be investigated thoroughly. I remember many years ago an old friend was accused, and after he was cleared, the police revealed the young lady in question had made 15 allegations in the past. That particular young lady should have been prosecuted, but it did make me think about the boy who cried wolf?

  • 115 Mister Tuff // Jan 25, 2013 at 1:03 PM

    Yo Yo/Tsunki.
    Reference translating Newcastle into French.
I believe the correct translation would be:-
You will be aware that all French nouns have a gender,
the French for “the castle” is “le chateau” -a male noun.
Adjectives associated with a noun have to have the same gender as the noun -there are two possible (male) words, meaning new:-
noveau or neuf (neuf can also mean nine)
As Newcastle is not new in the terms of construction I suggest that the appropriate choice of adjective is neuf, therefore the correct formulation is Neufchateau.

  • 116 bills-son // Jan 25, 2013 at 1:05 PM

boater – if they terminated Ranger’s contact without legal justification the club would have to pay it up in full.

Pardew has said before Ranger would never play for the club again but as others have said you have to play him in the hope he might be bought. I’m absolutely certain if the club could legally terminate his contract they would.

True, unless the woman involved has clear evidence of struggling against the attack or there are credible witnesses, I doubt Ranger will be convicted, regardless of whether he did it or not. I mean you only have to look at the ratio of convictions to those suspected of rape, which I believe is at most 1:100. Quite unacceptable really.

Newcastle need to get rid of Ranger as soon as possible – he is sullying the name of the football club. Regardless of whether he is guilty or not of this latest trouble -he is getting into situations which ultimately causes embarrassment to the club – and not for the first time.

We thinks the Wengerbus has sour grapes lol

Arsène Wenger believes clubs should be restricted to two signings in the January transfer window to maintain the equilibrium of the Premier League.

Newcastle United have been the major movers this month with Yoan Gouffran, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Mathieu Debuchy heading to St. James’ Park and Moussa Sissoko and Massadio Haidara set to follow them.

Wenger thinks the current regulations give an unfair advantage to sides who have faced the likes of Newcastle both home and away this season.

“I think it [the January window] should be all completely cut out or limited to two players,” said Wenger.

“It is unfair for the league that some teams who have [twice] played, for example, Newcastle, already have an advantage on teams who play Newcastle now they have bought [a number of] players.

“You do not face exactly the same team so I believe the number of players you could buy should be limited.
