Sissoko Gives Up Signing Bonus – Undergoing Medical Today

9:35 am, Friday, January 25th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 65 Comments

This week is going down as one of the most productive in the history of Newcastle in any transfer window  - as we have signed three players in three days, and if everything goes well today with Moussa Sissoko’s medical,  then it will be four players in four days – and the only question we are left with is who will we sign tomorrow?

moussa sissoko

Moussa Sissoko – having medical today

It will not have gone unnoticed by Newcastle fans that Moussa Sissoko could have delayed signing for Newcastle until the summer,  and both the player and Newcastle would have got a much better deal – but Moussa comes out of this looking golden –  and he has agreed to forego the signing bonus he would have got in the summer – and decided to sign this month for Newcastle.

And Newcastle have also decided it would be better to have the player in the squad for the last 15 games of the season – where we are still fighting against possible relegation – and the club are willing to pay out £2M to Toulouse get the French International.

That’s why everything was so upbeat coming from Toulouse yesterday, as they issued a statement on their web-site wishing Soussa all the best at Newcastle, and going through his career at Toulouse – because otherwise they would have received nothing for one of their top young players.

So it was a case of Newcastle doing the right thing – but it’s Moussa who has distinguished himself by signing on for Newcastle now and losing maybe £1M.

Good for him.

So, who is due in for a medical tomorrow?

    De jong?

  • 5 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:40 AM

Look at all these players who are signing who actually WANT to play for the toon! Been a great week hopefully a CF or a LW still to come followed by absolutly steam rollering aston villa!

  • 6 the1willy // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:41 AM

Concerning our sudden influx of new players what do you think promted it:

1: MA decided to gamble in the summer and now realizes his gamble didn’t pay off and is trying to fix it.

2: MA actually intended to bring in these players all along but knew it would be cheaper in January.

3: He got annoyed by QPR, and decided to hit back by buying everyone and anyone sloppy chops might be interested in.

4: He’s bored running his empire so he’s eventually decided to have a go at winning something.

5: MA bought his kids shirts with Ben Arfa on the back, and when he heard that Ben Arfa wanted to see ambition or he would leave, he sh*t himself at the prospect of having to buy new shirts for his kids.

I think the amount of money MA has spent be it little or a lot this window is irrelevant, what really shows his ambition is that fact that he’s now got five more salaries to pay (4 if we discount Ba’s), and that really is a big investment

Really excited for the Villa game now, hopefully sissoko and Mbwia start at least, Gouffran off the bench in the 65th to run their youngsters ragged.
Mbwia for Williamson and Sissoko for Jonas. Jobs a goodun

    One mike Ashley
    Only one mike asley

See sky are suggesting this morning mr t to man utd
Can’t see it myself ,but suddenly doesn’t seem so important losing a fringe player
15 m being talked aou would balance the books I guess

  • 12 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:44 AM

It has been a great window, ashley has corrected the problems from the summer and added an extra player as well so very good business.

I think all we need now is a forward, winger and CB (young and talented) and we have a complete squad.

Obviously players like jonas, perch, shola can be upgraded but we will be in no rush to do that now as we have plenty other options.

I genuinely believe we now have a squad to be the rival of spurs and arsenal.

  • 13 mindshaft // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:44 AM

Lets be realistic – we are basically the french national team, why wouldn’t a frenchman want to come to the toon – think this will also improve the French national teams chances of winning something as they’ll be playing together week in, week out
Could be that if you want to have a chance of making the France team, you have to sign for Newcastle :-)

  • 14 Tommyy // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:44 AM

    Willy – mainly 1 and a bit of 3 I should guess.

  • 15 Tsunki // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:45 AM

    the1willy –

Another option – Mike was convinced by Crr & Pards to get these guys a year ago. Del the Owl-headed supervillain mashed up his negotiatin skills trying to play hardball like Mike. Cue the ‘purples’ idea, which Del arrived at after threatening Pardew secretly with the sack if he didnt go along with him. Del pitches ‘Purple’ plan to Mike while holding Pards’ arm behind back – ‘I’ll get you for this Owlheed’, Pardew hisses through gritted teeth.

  • 16 ~Anita One Bites the Dust~ // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:45 AM

    I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllyyy

can’t wait to see our full strength team…. infact… just seeing our best midfield would be enough…. the potential in quality in the center for us is immense.

  • 17 TorqToon // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:45 AM

TS – I think the Norwich link is pure fabrication to be honest – to try and take emphasis off their #1 target in Celtic’s Hooper.

Can’t see why they would pay £10mil for RVW when they can pay £8mil for hooper. Personally I rate RVW much higher and would light up the premiership. Will search for a good video of him for those who haven’t seen much of the lad.

  • 18 yorkymag // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:47 AM

    The 1 willy
One thing I picked up which may add to your list ,and I guess it a bit of all these things.
The wonga deal is conditional on being in the premier league ,not the rights but the price and wonga can apparantley walk if we are relegated.

  • 19 C // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:47 AM

If he would have waited and gone in the summer, he would have left Toulouse with nothing. Now they will get something out of the sale as well. So maybe it wasn’t that he didn’t wanted to take a sign on bonus from Newcastle but to leave Toulouse with something. Either way he seems to be a good guy and not the usual footballer.

  • 20 the1willy // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:47 AM

They shouldn’t just make Cabaye captain, but also chief scout/negotiator/PR guy.

Almost everyone mentions ‘After speaking to Yohan…’

It might be selfish on his part trying to recreate the French squad in one team… but I don’t care

  • 21 josh // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:48 AM

If hes gave up the money to come here bloody good on the lad. Nice to see once in a while.

  • 22 nick_9 // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:48 AM

Tads – a lot of the French lads want to play alongside the other French stars currently here and put themselves in the shop window for the international team whilst playing in a top league. People supporting other clubs may knock it but everyone of them said they want to prove they can play in this league

  • 23 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:48 AM

I never trust videos….usually just show highlights and not everything done wrong. If carr and his colleagues think he is good enough thats enough for me.

I think Hooper is a brilliant player, will be an England international no doubt.

I really like jordan rhodes too….the problem is they have the additional price as they are british even though they have no prem league experience.

  • 24 Lucky Les // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:49 AM

From reading the blog over the last few days this player seems the one most people are excited about.Hopefully he will turn out to be a gem.

Turning to the Villa game I think we could do with Taylor to combat Big Ben of Villa and am wondering who will make their debut in what is sure to be a frantic tough game. Taylor is also the most likely to head one in from a set piece. No place for faint hearts but we must get at least a point.

It is important that the Club and fans do not think just because we have signed a number of players the battle is won it is just starting. We need at least 6 or 7 wins out of 15 games which should not be beyond us with the right attitude and performance level.

  • 25 the1willy // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:49 AM

We should also receive some kind of compensation from the French national set up, we’re going to save them a bucket load of money on airfares/hotels and the like.

  • 26 BigKirky // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:50 AM

What I think I’m more worried about by the Colo situation, as quality player as he is, is that if he’s not involved, Williamson may be. In other words back to square one for CBs. A saving grace is that Stevie Taylor is just back though.

Would love to See Colo and Mapou as CBs flourish together.

  • 27 croftus5678 // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:50 AM

best thing about this is mbiwa has a LOT of ambition and fight in him saying he’s going to win most of his battles ect ect

and i’m really really loving this gouffran now he’s talking like he’s a toon fan through and through.

  • 28 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:51 AM

I think the fact Ashley has had to step in and bypass llambias will hopefully show him that llambias hasn’t a clue and can leave.

  • 30 TorqToon // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:55 AM

TS – I do agree with you. But it was purely to give people an idea of what he can do. The lad is class – he is a real goal poacher. His movement off the ball is some of the best I have EVER seen – which is saying a lot,

Trying to not get ahead of myself – but I think you an I believe – there may be more to come in this window..! :-)

  • 31 nick_9 // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:56 AM

The1willy exactly, i bet he’s already gained an additional season pass holder in Deschamps, well… Maybe if he wasn’t such a c@nt.

Really not sure if or who we will look at next after sissoko. Surely we won’t sign six players on this window?

  • 32 TorqToon // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:56 AM

Gaz – I’m bringing Thauvin back to England with me on Monday…!

Got my keyring and potato sack ready! :-)

Although he may well already be in Newcastle by then! :-)

  • 33 Shane // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:56 AM

Like or hate Ashley, he is a brilliant businessman. You don’t become a billionaire over night nor by chance.

He’s using the 7mill from Ba to buy these lads and Ba’s freed up wages to pay all theirs. Minus Debuchy, I feel the money for him is coming from the sale of Tiote. I’m almost convinced Ashley has told United or chelsea or whoever they can have him but only after we have bought in these players… if clubs know we have just sold Ba and Tiote they will dig their heels in for more money. Just my random thoughts.

  • 34 croftus5678 // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:57 AM

maybe this is why ashley only had small budgets as he knew he personally could get players of this quality for these prices ^^ and the lamb was to the slaughter and could not nagotiate half as well as ashley.

  • 35 TorqToon // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:58 AM

Jut for information on RVW. Brought in to replace ‘the irreplaceable’ Liedson….and more than filled those big boots!

  • 36 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:58 AM

What’s his pace like? quicker or slower than cisse?

and that sounds very good then, lets get him signed up ASAP…is the news on the bid reliable then?

  • 37 ~Anita One Bites the Dust~ // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:59 AM

Anyone think bringing Samba back to the PL would be a good idea? Still 28 years old (i think)

Thats a pretty scary line up. A lot of flair in attack, and imposing defenders. Thats pretty much a wall infront of Krul.

  • 38 yo-yo // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:00 AM

Hooper has scored 4 in 9 in the Hoops CL campaign so I reckon he can cut it,
Even at £8m he is probably a snip – he’ll always be overpriced being English.

  • 39 MrMojoRisin76 // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:01 AM

I hope Pardew talks about Mike Ashley’s personal involvement in the transfer dealings when the window shuts. He’ll talk him up big style, rightly so.It will be interesting to find out how he worked his magic.

  • 40 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:02 AM

I can’t see anyone paying the price ashley would want for tiote this window after his poor form…also he is away with the ivory coast.

  • 41 yo-yo // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:03 AM

Get Thauvin here before Friday – window closes Thurs night !

  • 42 TorqToon // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:04 AM

TS – He’s not lightning quick – but he is no slouch. He is a very clever player and his 1st 5yrds is in his head, which is why he keeps getting into the positions he does. Reminds me very much of an Hernandez – type player, only a bit stronger on the ball.

  • 43 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:05 AM

champions league goals aren’t always a great sign….easily get some against the lesser teams in it,…..but he has shown he gets goals in the spl and can in champs league so 2 good points…doing all he can.

Also his goals in the spl are good as most teams defend against celtic so scoring for them isn’t as easy as people make out sometimes.

I think he could cut it, everything i have heard about him has rated him above jelevic….so who knows….would be good if not for a large fee.

  • 44 croftus5678 // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:05 AM

tiote can leave now for me as anita and sissoko can do his role but less aggressive with more options going forward at the same time and if things got really bad bigi is close to him aswell.

think we have great cover all over now apart from up front and by the way gouffran is talking and is up for the challenge i think he will be played as a striker so i dont expect another striker to come in.

brilliant window though even hairdryer and if we get him thuvin there are 2 players who are like santon was (prem class atm but have a lot of potential to get even better)

  • 45 LooneyToon41 // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:06 AM

@6 the1willy. Very good question, and not one i can honestly answer.
I do think that @18 yorkymag makes a VERY good point regarding the Wonga shirt sponsorship deal.
There’s also the issue of the new TV deal.
We do know that GCarr has scouted these players a lot over the last few years, so we know what we are buying.
Why has Ashley suddenly opened the cheque book for transfers (and of course wages!!)?

The more i think about it, the more i feel it’s because of how much money it would cost Ashley if NUFC got relegated. So, maybe it’s all a blessing in disguise, as we now have 80%,90% of a squad able to challenge the top 6 again (well Spurs,Arsenal,Liverpool etc).

  • 46 Transfer Sage // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:06 AM

sounds a good comparison as I think hernadez is one of the best strikers in the league….played every week i’d back him to get 20+ a season.

  • 47 Tsunki // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:07 AM

Aww I know lads, we are all mighty tired of the french jokes and we will get even sicker yet (cue the mackems idea of humour…) but you gotta sing with me –

    Chateauneuf, Chateauneuf, Chateauneuf,
    Chateauneuf, Chateauneuf, Chateauneu…euf,
    Chateauneuf, Chateauneuf, Chateauneuf,

    (Repeat ad nauseam).

It could catch on it really could it just takes effort.

  • 48 Conaldo (The Wizard...Also Bestest Friends With Paul Scharner) // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:10 AM

It’s pretty nice now that we have a squad.

    Fullbacks – Debuchy, Santon Haïdara
Centre backs – Colo, Mapou, Saylor, Willo
Midfielders – Cabaye, Anita, Tiote, Sissokho, Marveaux, Jonas,…
Attackers – Cisse, Ben Arfa, Gouffran, Marveaux …

All of a sudden it becomes difficult to pick a team!

  • 49 Lucky Les // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:11 AM

Shane it is vital we keep our big 5 players ie Krul,Tiotie, Cabaye,HBA and Collo(unless his heart is no longer in the task). The only way we sell any of these should be if we get offered silly money as with Big Andy. The basic rule is never sell good players until they are past their best.I agree withTransfer Sage on Tiotie.Imagine Cabaye Sassoko Tiotie midfield!

  • 50 LooneyToon41 // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:12 AM

@47. Tsunki. Who says that our education system doesn’t produce talented poets and literary genius’s these days???

  • 51 Mund30 // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:14 AM

Cant believe i keep reading people say Tiote can go now, wouldnt be bothered if they sold him. Are you mad or what lads??? Yes his form has been shocking but so has alot of the others, but Tiote on his day is one of the best Def Mid in Europe and proved it on more then one occasion in the black and white. He isnt the only one who has been terrible are we crying out to sell Krul or Cisse who have had equal shocking moments? Look at the midfield force we have now, Tiote, Cabaye, Anita, Sissoko and the understudy Bigi. Why would we want to get rid of any of that especially Tiote. Watch him come back and be immense for us stop being haters this guy bled for us the last 2 years.

  • 52 Wayayman // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:19 AM

Repost as this thread happened too quickly…

    Re the Colo situation:
@hadthetshirt Totally agree, but, if it is a medical problem rather than a personal one, I honestly think this would have been handled much, much differently by the club.
There’s no way they’d expect him to stay here in the short term at least, and there’s no chance they’d be involving lawyers.
Some things in life put football into perspective and serious illness is one of them. As much as Ashley seems like a bit of a pig-headed stubborn twat (until about 3 days ago anyway) the bloke is human and I’m sure he’d let Colo leave, even if it was just temporarily.
Think of the players reactions too, they’ve all been very quiet on it. Usually if there’s a problem like serious illness (god forbid) to one of their team mates or their family then you’d expect your team mates to be sympatheic and have your back.
Colo hasn’t got his wish to leave, and he even turned up for training the day after. Tell me, if it was an illness in the family, would you do the same? No, me either, I’d be on the first plane back home, bollox to the consequences.

  • 53 Munster Mag // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:35 AM

I dont want to lose Tiote even though his form has collapsed this season. The new guys will raise standards and Tiote will respond. I wouldnt fancy playing against Sissoko and Tiote in midfield ….ouch!

Sissoko is the signing I wanted all season

Absolute beast. Glad were getting him now and not in the summer

    Good job Ashley

  • 56 jim_mc // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:46 AM

I don’t like the fact that we will be fielding zero English / british players very soon.
I’m all for new signings but I think its a little sad that we will represent the English premier league yet have no English / British in a starting 11.
We now need to balance the squad.
and before you all start saying, but we have Ryan Taylor, Sammy, Shola, Gosling, Campbell etc…they’re not really starting players are they.
Tiote can go for me, hope he does sign for Manure, i think he’s an awful player.
Hope we sign Butland, wouldn’t mind someone like Shawcross, and get Carroll back in the summer.

  • 57 toon kk // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:52 AM

Nice to see cashley showing some interestin the club. Thats all us fans want is ambition & a good performance on the pitch. The board obviously gambled by thinking don’t buy in the summer save money & give the young lads a chance. BIG mistake.

  • 58 bills-son // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:56 AM

Sissoko will – I hope – prove to be the player that top teams need more than any other type of player – a commanding, shouting, fist waving, all action, passing, tackling, box to box player who weighs in with a few goals.

Players like Souness, Bryan Robson, Viera and Keane are never ever beaten in a game and inspire and bully those around them to give there all in every game. From what I have seen and heard of Sissoko he just might be that type of player. If he is, he more than any other player we’ve signed, will be the one to lead us to the next level.

  • 59 Toon73 // Jan 25, 2013 at 11:08 AM

Answers to why anyone would get rid of Tiote,
    * His lacks vision and a good footballing brain .
    * Conceeds too many unceccessary fouls in dangerous areas of the field that has cost us precious points, because he has no footballing brain.
    * Gets too many booking, which lead to suspensions, because of his lack of a fooballing brain.
    * Loses possesion too often.
    * He is an awful tackler, which is why he conceeds too many fouls.
    * Has an awful shot, one decent one against Arsenal, but anyone can win the lottery.
*He’s just not a very good footballer.
    * He’s a canny lad and would probably die for his team mates which is a good quality he just doesn’t seem to be very bright.
    * If we can make a profit then champion, thank you very much, lets play someone good instead.
    * Bye Bye Mr T…. So long Sucker.
