This week is going down as one of the most productive in the history of Newcastle in any transfer window – as we have signed three players in three days, and if everything goes well today with Moussa Sissoko’s medical, then it will be four players in four days – and the only question we are left with is who will we sign tomorrow?
Moussa Sissoko – having medical today
It will not have gone unnoticed by Newcastle fans that Moussa Sissoko could have delayed signing for Newcastle until the summer, and both the player and Newcastle would have got a much better deal – but Moussa comes out of this looking golden – and he has agreed to forego the signing bonus he would have got in the summer – and decided to sign this month for Newcastle.
And Newcastle have also decided it would be better to have the player in the squad for the last 15 games of the season – where we are still fighting against possible relegation – and the club are willing to pay out £2M to Toulouse get the French International.
That’s why everything was so upbeat coming from Toulouse yesterday, as they issued a statement on their web-site wishing Soussa all the best at Newcastle, and going through his career at Toulouse – because otherwise they would have received nothing for one of their top young players.
So it was a case of Newcastle doing the right thing – but it’s Moussa who has distinguished himself by signing on for Newcastle now and losing maybe £1M.
Good for him.

Comment #42TS – He’s not lightning quick – but he is no slouch. He is a very clever player and his 1st 5yrds is in his head, which is why he keeps getting into the positions he does. Reminds me very much of an Hernandez – type player, only a bit stronger on the ball.

champions league goals aren’t always a great sign….easily get some against the lesser teams in it,…..but he has shown he gets goals in the spl and can in champs league so 2 good points…doing all he can.
Also his goals in the spl are good as most teams defend against celtic so scoring for them isn’t as easy as people make out sometimes.
I think he could cut it, everything i have heard about him has rated him above jelevic….so who knows….would be good if not for a large fee.

Comment #44tiote can leave now for me as anita and sissoko can do his role but less aggressive with more options going forward at the same time and if things got really bad bigi is close to him aswell.
think we have great cover all over now apart from up front and by the way gouffran is talking and is up for the challenge i think he will be played as a striker so i dont expect another striker to come in.
brilliant window though even hairdryer and if we get him thuvin there are 2 players who are like santon was (prem class atm but have a lot of potential to get even better)

Comment #45@6 the1willy. Very good question, and not one i can honestly answer.
I do think that @18 yorkymag makes a VERY good point regarding the Wonga shirt sponsorship deal.
There’s also the issue of the new TV deal.
We do know that GCarr has scouted these players a lot over the last few years, so we know what we are buying.
Why has Ashley suddenly opened the cheque book for transfers (and of course wages!!)?
The more i think about it, the more i feel it’s because of how much money it would cost Ashley if NUFC got relegated. So, maybe it’s all a blessing in disguise, as we now have 80%,90% of a squad able to challenge the top 6 again (well Spurs,Arsenal,Liverpool etc).

sounds a good comparison as I think hernadez is one of the best strikers in the league….played every week i’d back him to get 20+ a season.

Comment #47Aww I know lads, we are all mighty tired of the french jokes and we will get even sicker yet (cue the mackems idea of humour…) but you gotta sing with me –
Chateauneuf, Chateauneuf, Chateauneuf,
Chateauneuf, Chateauneuf, Chateauneu…euf,
Chateauneuf, Chateauneuf, Chateauneuf,
Chateauneuf,
CHA-TEAU-NEUF!
(Repeat ad nauseam).
It could catch on it really could it just takes effort.

Comment #48It’s pretty nice now that we have a squad.
Fullbacks – Debuchy, Santon Haïdara
Centre backs – Colo, Mapou, Saylor, Willo
Midfielders – Cabaye, Anita, Tiote, Sissokho, Marveaux, Jonas,…
Attackers – Cisse, Ben Arfa, Gouffran, Marveaux …
All of a sudden it becomes difficult to pick a team!

Comment #49Shane it is vital we keep our big 5 players ie Krul,Tiotie, Cabaye,HBA and Collo(unless his heart is no longer in the task). The only way we sell any of these should be if we get offered silly money as with Big Andy. The basic rule is never sell good players until they are past their best.I agree withTransfer Sage on Tiotie.Imagine Cabaye Sassoko Tiotie midfield!

Comment #51Cant believe i keep reading people say Tiote can go now, wouldnt be bothered if they sold him. Are you mad or what lads??? Yes his form has been shocking but so has alot of the others, but Tiote on his day is one of the best Def Mid in Europe and proved it on more then one occasion in the black and white. He isnt the only one who has been terrible are we crying out to sell Krul or Cisse who have had equal shocking moments? Look at the midfield force we have now, Tiote, Cabaye, Anita, Sissoko and the understudy Bigi. Why would we want to get rid of any of that especially Tiote. Watch him come back and be immense for us stop being haters this guy bled for us the last 2 years.

Comment #52Repost as this thread happened too quickly…
Re the Colo situation:
@hadthetshirt Totally agree, but, if it is a medical problem rather than a personal one, I honestly think this would have been handled much, much differently by the club.
There’s no way they’d expect him to stay here in the short term at least, and there’s no chance they’d be involving lawyers.
Some things in life put football into perspective and serious illness is one of them. As much as Ashley seems like a bit of a pig-headed stubborn twat (until about 3 days ago anyway) the bloke is human and I’m sure he’d let Colo leave, even if it was just temporarily.
Think of the players reactions too, they’ve all been very quiet on it. Usually if there’s a problem like serious illness (god forbid) to one of their team mates or their family then you’d expect your team mates to be sympatheic and have your back.
Colo hasn’t got his wish to leave, and he even turned up for training the day after. Tell me, if it was an illness in the family, would you do the same? No, me either, I’d be on the first plane back home, bollox to the consequences.

Comment #53I dont want to lose Tiote even though his form has collapsed this season. The new guys will raise standards and Tiote will respond. I wouldnt fancy playing against Sissoko and Tiote in midfield ….ouch!

Comment #56I don’t like the fact that we will be fielding zero English / british players very soon.
I’m all for new signings but I think its a little sad that we will represent the English premier league yet have no English / British in a starting 11.
We now need to balance the squad.
and before you all start saying, but we have Ryan Taylor, Sammy, Shola, Gosling, Campbell etc…they’re not really starting players are they.
Tiote can go for me, hope he does sign for Manure, i think he’s an awful player.
Hope we sign Butland, wouldn’t mind someone like Shawcross, and get Carroll back in the summer.

Comment #57Nice to see cashley showing some interestin the club. Thats all us fans want is ambition & a good performance on the pitch. The board obviously gambled by thinking don’t buy in the summer save money & give the young lads a chance. BIG mistake.

Comment #58Sissoko will – I hope – prove to be the player that top teams need more than any other type of player – a commanding, shouting, fist waving, all action, passing, tackling, box to box player who weighs in with a few goals.
Players like Souness, Bryan Robson, Viera and Keane are never ever beaten in a game and inspire and bully those around them to give there all in every game. From what I have seen and heard of Sissoko he just might be that type of player. If he is, he more than any other player we’ve signed, will be the one to lead us to the next level.

Comment #61Answers to why anyone would get rid of Tiote,
* His lacks vision and a good footballing brain .
* Conceeds too many unceccessary fouls in dangerous areas of the field that has cost us precious points, because he has no footballing brain.
* Gets too many booking, which lead to suspensions, because of his lack of a fooballing brain.
* Loses possesion too often.
* He is an awful tackler, which is why he conceeds too many fouls.
* Has an awful shot, one decent one against Arsenal, but anyone can win the lottery.
*He’s just not a very good footballer.
* He’s a canny lad and would probably die for his team mates which is a good quality he just doesn’t seem to be very bright.
* If we can make a profit then champion, thank you very much, lets play someone good instead.
* Bye Bye Mr T…. So long Sucker.

Comment #62Back to the earlier post it shows that Ashley has a lot of pride and i think he looked like a bit of douche about the whole Remy sale. I feel we need to pay other teams to get one player so Iron Mike can smash some quick sales. Well it looks like im going to have to get up at 6:30 in the morning to watch the Villa Game!!!! Come on the Toon and also Happy Australia Day to all our Fans from down under for tomorrow!!!!

you obvioulsy have an eye for spotting talent and recognizing quality when you see it….can you please have a word with Graham Carr and all other managers, as well as other daft managers that were after him such as Ancelotti to name just one that he’s had at league and international level and teach them a few things….I will champion your cause to Mike Ashley so you can replace these supposed professional scouts and managers that obviously have no clue. I guess they are all loopy.
