Sissoko Signs For Newcastle – A Massive Club

6:53 pm, Friday, January 25th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 463 Comments

Newcastle United have just announced they have completed the transfer of French international Moussa Sissoko from Toulouse for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around £2M.

moussa sissoko signs

The 22-year-old midfielder has signed a whopping six-and-a-half year deal at St. James’ Park and Moussa will wear the number seven shirt.

This is what Moussa said after signing today:

“I am delighted to be a Newcastle United player.”  “This is a massive club playing in the best league in the world, and I believe my style of play is suited to the Premier League.”  “I have heard lots about how fantastic the Newcastle supporters are and cannot wait to get started.”

“I am rising to a new challenge by coming here and want to firstly help the team improve this season and then progress after that.”

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has this to say about his fourth new signing in four days:

“This transfer window has proved very productive for us and Moussa arriving today is a massive plus for the club.”  “He will bring drive and energy to the squad, he is a winner and that’s why I’m especially pleased to have him with us.”

“What all our signings this window bring is essential competition for places and that is great for the remainder of the season.”

Toulouse is the only club Sissoko has ever played for – and he played almost 200 times for the French side, and the deal he signed today means he missed out on a signing fee in the summer – when he would have been a free agent.

So Sissoko has done right by his club – and he comes with massive personal ethics – and he’s not bad player either – having played 5 times for the full French side – and he’s a brilliant box to box midfielder who stands 6’2″ tall.

He’s simply a terrific signing for Newcastle United - there’s just no doubt about that.

Now here’s the question - who will we be signing tomorrow? :D

  • 16 p // Jan 25, 2013 at 6:58 PM

Right Pardew, you plonka, no excuses about people needed time to settle in or whatever.

You have a decent squad with widely regarded as world class players in Sissoko and Mbwia

4 full French internationals from the first 11 if I am not wrong + HBA.

If you can’t beat Villa you are a complete loser.

Have any of the “we won’t sign anybody” or “we have no ambition” bunch admitted they were wrong yet?

  • 43 Nick 69 // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:06 PM

absolutely buzzing!! anymore players now are an absolute bonus. And the fact we have no game over the weekend will maybe allow us to get any signings they have planned done nd dusted before Villa. Hats off to Mike Ashley this window

Well said mate. Think egg on my face rears its ugly head again

  • 52 Fostino // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:09 PM

i think ashley must have woke up sunday morning and said….lets go for it. i take my hat off…not only has he signed good players on decent fees but its important to remember that he’s going to be paying the wages of these ads too so that will add up to.its a real commitment and a very smart move both on the playing side of things and on financial grounds. im guessing the prices will he hiked up quite a bit in summer with the new telly deals coming in so he’s offering straight cash now to clubs who need it. very canny. this will also keep the team together and a possible uefa cup win should see us in europa again next year

  • 53 yorkymag // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:11 PM

Not sure we really need anyone else
Cisse and when required Shola ,yes even Shola will get a hat full with the boys behind him
The other things we have four or five other outfield players who will reqularly score
    You know we have some
top players we the winger wenger starts moaning

  • 55 p // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:11 PM

Toonboy_84, yes, I had been saying that we needed to make that assessment on Feb 1.

    Mash has come through.

Now over to Pardew. I have always thought he is mediocre. This should be enough firepower to keep us up.

It’s up to him to do better than keep us up.

If he is mediocre as I think, we should get north of 40 points. If he is good (as he seems to think he is) we should do a lot better than that, in excess of 50 points.

  • 56 MAUTITOON // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:12 PM

I know it’s being greedy right now but it would really be the iceing on the cake for me.

  • 65 JP...from The Rock // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:17 PM

I remember Spurs doing this a few years back and they have been near the top 5 every year. But we have bought even better quality than they did, good times ahead. First step avoid the drop then let the good times roll :)

  • 66 giimps // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:17 PM

Ashley will get some if not all of the outlay back by being in a higher league position and the prizemoney allocated (assuming we get higher).
The wages are being paid by getting rid of Ba, Lovaman, Best and Guthrie as well as Smith.
We have probably the same wagebill as we had last june but with extraordinarily better players and with only a small outlay (10mil)?
Well done all the people involved in bringing the French revolution to the toon.

  • 69 jasper // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:18 PM

Everyone complains about the lack of vocal support at SJT.

Well here are the words you all need to learn…..
    French lyrics English translation
Allons enfants de la Patrie, Children of the Fatherland, let’s go,
Le jour de gloire est arrivé! The day of glory has arrived!
Contre nous de la tyrannie, Tyrrany is against us,
L’étendard sanglant est levee , The bloody banner is raised,
L’étendard sanglant est levé! The bloody banner is raised!
Entendez-vous dans les campagnes In the countryside do you hear
Mugir ces féroces soldats? The roar of these ferocious soldiers?
Ils viennent jusque dans vos bras They come into your arms
Égorger vos fils, vos compagnes! To kill your sons, your companions!

Aux armes, citoyens, To arms, citizens,
Formez vos bataillons, Form your battalions,
Marchons, marchons! We march, we march!
Qu’un sang impur So that an impure blood
Abreuve nos sillons ! Will water our furrows!

Personally I hunk we should stick to the French version……

  • 70 Ian Toon // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:19 PM

Solano– We got there albeit by a circuitous route. Ashley by backing astute signings has disproved the Wenger theory that the transfer market is a greater gamble in January rather than in the summer. It’s more a statement to appease disgruntled Arsenal fans. We have, it seems, abandoned DL’s purple programme with two players in every position. I would like to think that goals can be spread around. But a BA replacement would really ease my final concerns and ensure a move up the PL table. I will seek to celebrate when we start winning football matches.

Proud – Cant remember you saying anything about spending big but fair enough. I was always rooting for you though, yes you can have that point, step up and take the gong. Now, all you need for point 2 is to say one of the following_
‘Ashley has shelled out for PEA’ or ‘ Wolfswinkle sewn up’ (ouch) or ‘(Ronaldo/Messi/Other ridiculously top player arriving in time for Villa’ :)

Oh and it needs to come tre. Sorry about that last bt but its kinda the clincher in these things as you know…. :)

Over the moon with the standard of signings that MA has made. Well done, nice to see the supporters of this great club appreciated.

  • 127 p // Jan 25, 2013 at 7:35 PM

Jack – posted earlier. I think if he gets over 50 points, he will probably still have a job.

If not not, he could well be out.

This is massive backing from Ashley.

True the new players need to settle in but, 3 signings are world class and you would expect them to hit the ground running.

The only slight niggle is not signing a new prolific/proven PL goal scorer.

However, as many have said there is enough talent in midfield to easily compensate for that. Also, you would expect Cisse to get more opportunities to score with a stronger team behind him.

With Saylor, Cabaye and soon HBA back, there can be little excuses really.

olivant – yes, that’s the point. Look at the big spenders (Citeh, Chelski, Manure etc) and see what their bench looks like. Also when they get a couple of injuries, they’re not left high and dry. We can play Colo / Yanga – with Saylor on the bench, we now have a midfield that includes Benny, Cabs, Sissoko, Anita, Marveaux, Tiote. Someone said they feel sorry for Bigi – but the lad is just 19 and as Pards said, he should really only be getting the odd taste of PL bench while he’s developing.
Finally, I hate to show my ignorance but although I’ve heard of Sissoko, of course, I haven’t seen him play. Is he really that good? I’m imagining a Vieira type of midfielder? Someone tell me – I want to drool!

It was reported in the Portuguese press yesterday that the Magpies are the favourites to land his signature for £10 million by seeing off interest from the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Cologne.

His agent Lous Laros did not deny that there has been interest from Newcastle, but denied rumours that the player has handed in a transfer request at Lisbon.

    Laros said:

“I won’t name specific clubs as that is a private matter, but what I will say is there is big interest in Ricky from England.

“I have passed on this information to Sporting and it is up to them to come to any agreement and then we could negotiate.

“Can something happen this month? In football, you just never know what might happen. We are laid-back about the situation.

“Ricky is like any player in that he is ambitious and the Premier League is a fantastic place. He is happy for the moment in Lisbon. There have been reports that he has requested a transfer, but that is not true.”

Newcastle manager Pardew remarked after the defeat against Reading last week that he would like three new players this month as he seeks to reverse his sides fortunes, as Newcastle slope further toward the relegation zone after 6 games without a win.

It looks like his wishes will come true, and more, which comes as a huge boost for the beleaguered boss.

I am really happy but I am wondering about where are we getting all this cash from all of a sudden?

Mean we lost Ba, who was not on a major wage, which is why he left. He supposedly got half of the transfer sum so we have only gotten like 3,5 from him.

We have spent around 16,2 mil on Debuchy, Yanga-Mbiwa and Sissoko, and there wages are probably higher then what Ba got.

Then we have Gouffran and speculations say he cost 1,4.

Last there is the least know player to me Massadio Haïdara he reportedly cost us 3,5 mil euro aprox 3 mil pounds…

That takes our spending above 20 mil.

All I am asking is: Did we win the lottery?

To the posters wanting Pardew out.

Pardew will be judged from here on in. Not whats happened from the summer until now. The reason being because essentially this was the squad he should of started the campaign with.

If he shows that he cannot get results with this squad he will be out of the door. Personally, with these new faces in and with everybody back fit just about. We will climb the table.

He now has all options available to him plus the strong quality in depth we have needed. We now can play multiple formations with the chance of bringing on good quality players to change games and switch it around when needed if games are not going our way.

No more fringe players, no more development players. No more players in the 1st team pool who should not be there right now.

Villa could be to early. These players have not been here 2 minutes. And we also have players coming back in from long lay offs. You cannot expect five players to come in and perform at their 100% straight off the bat. Don’t expect these five players to be playing/starting at villa. They need eased in. And remember dont get on the teams back or Pardews if we do not get a result.

These aquisitions have been brought in to guarantee our safety over the period until the end of the season. Not to be instant hits. Over the next few months they will be adjusting to there new surroundings getting to know their team mates, coaching staff etc. My point is don’t expect instant results. They need time to bed in and also our current players coming back from injury need games to get up to speed.

    Onwards and upwards. HTL

We had before this transfer window a good starting 11 and that was it, our number 12 was not good. Now we can play different systems use different players and maybe have a crack at EL but first of all try to stay in the epl

More great news! So happy with these signings but why as a Newcastle fan am I still always worried.
I see San Lorenzo have just posted a letter from Coloccini

    The basic gist is
    To the San Lorenzo family,
Im writing this letter from so far away and missing my country, my family and the people I care about.
After some meetings I won’t be coming back from some time unfortunately in life you dont get everything you want or need. The contract and other people are stronger than the heart.
I am convinced this is not an obstacle and I thankyou for all the love and support in the last months.
Then Colo thanks the press for the patience because they recognise his personal problems and he and his agents silence.
Then lots of thanks to San Lorenzo presdent and vice president .
He is family San Lorenzo bla bla

Glad he is staying until the end of the season as long as he still performs but i think a statement should have been made much earlier and to his current employers! not SL!
Pretty sure he will be off in the summer

This is great. And it shows what can happen when Mike Ashley gets involved in transfers personally.
I just hope it happens more often. He is a proven successful businessman, and it’s been showing in the last few days. I just hope he stays involved long enough to sign one more striker, and perhaps set Newcastle on the front foot for the summer. And if there was to be a cherry on the cake, release Nile Ranger from his contract because he is damaging Newcastle United while he stays at the club. He once showed some promise so I can see why he was given the chance, but that has came and gone and all he is now is a drain on wages which could be better spent. I doubt he’ll have so many notes to write his name in money in the future. Although he might just have the money long enough to write rapist instead of Ranger, although that is yet to be seen, even if it is true he’ll probably get away with it.

  • 195 Newcastle for alltid // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:05 PM

This is almost too much. My mind can’t comprehend actually having quality in our teams depth. Most of the players signed can actually walk straight into our team as well, it’s not like we’ve signed 5 development players.

Hoping for more almost feels greedy now, though it seems that it’s not unrealistic at the moment. We may need another CB, but we may now be able to wait until the summer to do that. I also notice that a lot of people call for a quality replacement to Demba Ba. It would be nice, for sure. Even though signing a player similar in style to Demba Ba wouldn’t necesarilly be good IMO. It really depends on the formation Pardew is wanting to stick to.

We signed Gouffran, who I believe is an exciting player, who can score goals for us and bring some pace to our squad. Still, my guess is that the plan with Gouffran is using him as a winger on a more-or-less straight line with Cissè in the middle and Ben Arfa on the opposite wing. The strikers we’ve been linked with, Aubameyang and especially Wolfsvinkel are pure strikers. Sure, Aubameyang has got pace and could be used on the wings, although forcing a goalscorer to track defensively may ruin some parts of his game. Considering the mentioned players we’ve been linked with it leads me to believe that a Demba Ba replacement would be solely to compete with Cissè for the sole striker role. I could be wrong, considering the above and converting one of them to a winger. With this in mind, we will have signed Gouffran first and foremost to have on the bench, which is weird, considering that he’s a good player. More people have to be open to the idea of putting pressure on Cissè and maybe leaving him on the bench. The straight facts is that he isn’t taking his chances atm, practically lives in offside positions at times, and just seems uninterested.

I could be wrong however if Pardew resumes 4-4-2, pairing Cissè with a Ba replacement. This would mean using Ben Arfa lower in the pitch, Gouffran wouldn’t be played to his advantages as a wide-man in a 4-4-2, neither would Marveaux who, like Ben Arfa thrives in a CAM role or as a winger. Bringing these guys deeper in the pitch removes some of their sting. Also, who would you leave out of Cabaye, Tiote, Sissoko and Anita. In a 4-4-2 two of them would be warming the bench, which is quality wasted.
For me, this is what I would like to see:

    4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3 with two holding players
Debuchy – Yanga Mbiwa – Coloccini – Santon
    Tiote – Sissoko
Ben Arfa – Cissè / Ba replacement Gouffran

    Cissè/Ba replacement

  • 196 JackButler // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:06 PM

All these quality players for just a little more than what Man U have paid for Zaha……………..oh yeah and they are cheaper than Henderson, Downing and Carroll, sorry but can’t miss an importunity to take a dig at the bin dippers

I am stumped at what our board have done in a week. I have criticised them big time but i have been put firmly in my place. Mbiwa, Debuchy and Sissoko are truly top top class signings. Not so sure on Goufrann from the comments i seen in the Sun but he could have been misinterpreted. Heidera is a one for the future imo. We have until now till the summer to look for a CB to replace Collo, no need to bring in a CB right now. Creme de la creme will be a top class striker in this window but if not then one for the summer.

  • 202 NUFC_LEAZES END // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:11 PM

Ano what a bargain we’ve have pulled off with every single transfer.
Yet u get other teams saying we’ve got too many French players and it’ll disrupt the dressing room or you’ve got people like winger who say that clubs should only sign 2 players at the most in January ( having a dig at us )
End if the day we are signing top class players for bargains of like 1.5 mil up to 6.7, whilst teams like Man U and Liverpool sign a player for at least 15mil who are average players, some with a smidge of talent for the future.
    HWTL!!!!! Let the season begin

  • 203 WWYCD // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:11 PM

Dont disagree on any point mate, I liked the bloke a lot (tbh I would probably of offered him a new contract and kept him but mainly just because I like him and think he would of been a good player to have around the squad)

  • 205 ToonIcon // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:14 PM

For me there is no chance off Cabaye getting sold regardless of offers that may in future come in for him…… It looks like the club is being built around Cabaye
can see us only needing to sign Sakho(psg) in the summer as replacement for Colo, Cabaye to be Captain and possibly another goalscorer and we can dream of finally winning something
This is the best transfer window ever also think the fans at the Chelsea game will sing a pro Ashley song or two

It makes me laugh that people having a dig at us for bringing in these players. They we all available to buy it’s just we have the nounce to go and get them. If old Harry had done the same then everyone would be calling him a genius but as it’s Newcastle people only criticise which is pathetic.

Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool take the best British youngster for stupid money while we buy proven quality for what amounts to peanuts.

  • 221 jimmysmith // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:25 PM

Ok, great collection of players but it still looks like it’s gonna be a problem developing a functional fluent 11, due mainly to a lack of genuine wingers and being heavy in top class DMs and also with Cabs seeming to prefer sitting a little deeper.

I guess it’s 4 3 3 with overlapping fullbacks and each of the midfielders encouraged in turn to get into the box to support the striker. I suppose it’s reliant on lots of movement and psitional interchange and therefore potential problems involving maintaining shape.

Pards man management skills and tactical acumen or lack of, is going to be put to the acid test. We’ll get our first glimpse of things to come at Villa.

  • 222 moonraker // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:26 PM

I haven’t been this optimistic about the club since the Entertainers in the 90′s and if you cant enjoy this you might as well pack in. We now have to win some games and we will all have to be patient while the squad settles in, but make no mistake this is great leadership by Ashley and we should show our appreciation at the stadium against Chelsea!!! By the way I have been as frustrated as everyone else!

So chelsea go and buy say 2 players for like 30m (like hazard) at 60m and we can’t compete so have to buy 6-7m players.

What IS the problem is teams spending beyond their means, surprised Arsene doesn’t understand that it;s the model he plays to, whilst the top teams go and spend their turnover on 4 world class players.

  • 230 JackButler // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:29 PM

  • 231 DanRo // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:31 PM

A plea for patience, try not to get too carried away.
The players will take some time to integrate into the team. So if Pardew does play them don’t expect the world. If he doesn’t start them, understand that he is trying to bide them in. Either way, he stands to get slaughtered. The only way to appease some people is if we stuff Villa 3-0 and all the new boys are outstanding.

  • 251 Jamesthefirst // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:40 PM

    I have a theory:

Pardew has been in a football a LONG TIME. He has worked with many owners reluctant to release funds. So:

Instead of doing the obvious subs against Reading to win the game, he sacrifices the game to show Ashley the appalling state of our bench. By showing Ashley (sitting in the stands) how poor our back up players are, it forced Ashley’s hand into investing what he should have done in the summer. Everyone in the stands and watching on TV could see what was going to happen when he made those changes. Pardew is not stupid, he knew exactly what was going to happen too…that was his whole point:

Was it worth sacrificing the Reading game, to make a point to the owner about how thin our squad is? Or play it safe and nick the win against Reading and see no investment at all in Jan?

I for one think Pardew’s 2nd half game plan against Reading was one of the smartest things he has ever done as a manager of this club.

  • 252 BigKirky // Jan 25, 2013 at 8:40 PM

Fifa 13 online squad update is there. No Sissoko or Haidara on it just yet but Mapou and Gouffran are there. Lovin’ it. I play 433 on there and this is looking so balanced, and that is without Sissoko the monster involved.

  • 298 aidantoon // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:13 PM

nufc Steve, think we need both! I have always loved having good strikers as all the crosses and build up play in the world means nothing if you can’t put it in the net.
Marv has good left foot but not enough pace, although Becks had no pace but could cross for fun.

  • 299 olivant // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:13 PM

In the video he does indeed look like Yaya Toure, this is damn exciting

  • 300 Beattie25 // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:15 PM

Mertens will go in the Summer for big money to a top top club if nobody snaps him up this window.

Pardew has always said there is money for the right player, I think he’s the right player, and what’s more £10 million is a steal.

    However it won’t happen.

I do firmly believe we need a LW/SS to complete the team, but who??

  • 310 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:24 PM

Looks like Villa are getting pummeled in this game with Millwall commentator said a draw would be a great result for them they are a shocking team

If we play like we did in the 1st half against Reading we should beat them no problem just wish we had not made those stupid subs in the 2nd half

I would like to go with this team Pardew will not drop Jonas in this game as its 2 many changes at once but i think the team will be:

This will give us a great combination of players who will hussle and harry Villa as there players confidence will be low and we need to get stuck in to them to unsettle them

Jonas and Anita will offer defensive cover and Santon, Debuchy will offer the width with Sissoko Cabaye and Marveux supporting Cisse with runs into the box

Hope we pound them 3 or 4 nil would love Villa to go down after they relegated us that last time

  • 311 JackButler // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:24 PM

  • 312 JackButler // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:25 PM

We have one bid turned down for Florian Thauvin, the option is to buy him now and loan him back for the rest of the season. This kid is a younger version of HBA and would be a massive addition for us long term

  • 313 DanRo // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:25 PM

I think the chance of another signing is slim.
Money has been spent. Good signings.
Squad upbeat. I’ll be surprised if anyone else comes through the door before Feb 1st.
I do still think we’re short up top but the rationale will be when Ben Arfa comes back there will be plenty of firepower.

  • 317 Taking the Papiss // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:27 PM

People…I haven’t read comments tonight so don’t know whether this have been said but I was chatting to a friend about all these signings and he made a fantastic point. For one second put aside mbiwa, debuchy and haidara.

This is definitely the csae with sissoko and probably the case with gouffran. These are players that we could have got free in the summer. Sissoko had already agreed a pre-contract and so he would have been a newcastle player regardless in the summer. My point is this – we needed the players, so Ashley went out there and put his hand in his pocket (fine only a total of £4m) for both, but that would have been £0 come summer.

I think we have to give Ash huge credit for this, espcially in terms of Sissoko! We needed him now so Ash got in. I say fair play to him.

  • 318 DonegalMagpie // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:27 PM

  • 320 Slatymag // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:31 PM

Knew Sissoko was good, but since we’ve signed him I’ve allowed myself to indulge in some Youtubing. Didn’t know he had so much pace! Draws opposing players into him with his direct running, eye for a pass, hard to knock off the ball, hopefully ideal compliment to Cabaye’s vision. Monster!!!

Ashley is obviously shitting himself at the thought of us going down, in my opinion. That explains the influx of players. Protecting his investment or whatever you want to call it. I don’t think we would of seen much action in this window if we were sitting on 35 points for example.

  • 338 JackButler // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:45 PM

According to an English source, Newcastle sent an offer an offer of 10.5 million euros, plus bonuses for Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (23 years), also courted by Manchester City. Despite the arrival of Bordeaux Yoan Gouffran (26), who has signed a four-year lease and a half, the Magpies would also be good to recover the international Gabon, whose contract expires in June 2016. After recruiting Mathieu Debuchy (Lille), Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (Montpellier), Massadio Haidara (Nancy), Moussa Sissoko (Toulouse) and therefore Yoan Gouffran, the club led by Alan Pardew does not abandon the French sector.

The Greens are reluctant to respond to the proposal of the current sixteenth Premier League (which, moreover, failed in his attempt to poach Bastiais Florian Thauvin). Ditto for the former AC Milan player, who recently confided want to finish the season in the Forez. At worst, Newcastle are already set for next summer …

10,5 m euro bid in for PEA? is that old news or new news?

  • 341 p // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:47 PM

I think Tiote has been too shit worried about the back 4 and this had led to nervous, mistake ridden play along with (more than normal) reckless challenges.

Also the movement from our players have been pretty crap and it though does not fully excuse his poor distribution of late but it certainly goes some way to explaining it.

  • 342 davybtoon // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:48 PM

  • 348 JackButler // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:53 PM

Tiote has been well off his best for a long time now, he’s looked slow and cumbersome on the ball getting caught in possession far to often and the amount of time’s he has given the ball away is ridiculous.

At his best he is pure quality but we need him at his best and the new arrivals will force that out of him hopefully

  • 349 ronjohno // Jan 25, 2013 at 9:53 PM

I think JONNY is right about Pardew starting these players “from the bench”
Even Ryder in Chron says Sissoko will be on the bench against Villa. Ryder another ass.
I think whilst Pardew now has the players he will be filling his pants because he will not know how to handle them.
I also would not mind betting that Pardew never in his wildest dreams expected this to happen and now all his excuses have been blown apart.for future games.
    Sincerley hope I am wrong
If I see Shola,Williamson,ObertanJonas anywhere near the team I will tear out what little hair I have left.
I firmly believe that if Pardew was manager of Barcelona he would cock that right up.
I am sure we will avoid relegation but it will be in spite of Pardew not because of him.

People need settle to the pace of our game. Our league is by far the toughest in the world. Spain in more technical, but in terms of pace, power and how anyone can beat anyone. The perm is so hard. These lads will need time. I’m sure we’ll stay up and I think bringing them in now will help massively for next year. Sissoko will get a taster of the league and will be much better prepared. Football is not magic, new players don’t mean instant success, be patient with it all.

I guess not many fools become Billionaires.. I been following the toon for 25yrs and I dont think i ever witnessed such a strategic and tactical piece of business by this club like what we have seen in the past week. I know we signed the shearers, kluiverts, owens etc.. in the past, but even a ten year old would have told u about those guys and we just then speant crazy money on them and their wages… I really think this could be the begining of a special few years for the toon..

I think it’s new news on PEA, last time I don’t think we made a bid and now the articles are mentioning even bonuses, very interesting.

The only problem is that PEA said he wanted to stay until the summer and that a move in January was out of the question, but as we’ve seen before Money Talks most of the times.

    Watch this space.

Offkey and anyone else who is interested this is the full letter that Coloccini sent to San Lorenzo and they posted today. Some of the translation was a little tricky but I think the point is pretty clear.

    To the San Lorenzo family

I write this from far away, missing my country, my family and my the people I care for, and with the sadness of knowing, after a series of meetings held here in Newcastle that my return to Argentina has been delayed.

Unfortunately in life not everything goes as you want or need, and often the lack of understanding of others and the rigidity of contracts, are stronger than the reasons of the heart.

However, I am convinced that this moment of disappointment should not be an obstacle to express my deepest appreciation to each and every one of you, for the love and support you have given and I have received in recent months .

Also I would like to acknowledge the patience and respect of the press and the seriousness with which they acted in all this time for me and my family.

I’m sure you have been able to understand the personal situation that I’m going through and understand the silence of me and my agent, Marcelo Lombilla, in recent times, was not capricious, but reflected the need to preserve such private issues.
Finally, I wish to thank the authorities of San Lorenzo de Almagro club and especially to express my gratitude to the President, Dr. Matthias Lammens and Vice-Chairman, Mr. Marcelo Tinelli, for all the love and support as men, who from the outset without any qualms or conditions, were interested in my personal and family circumstances, and were as available as you might need.

Essentially I want to acknowledge the tremendous effort by them, from every point of view. In these times, in which the leadership of the Argentine football appears questioned for various reasons, with deep pride as a member of the San Lorenzo family, I wish to acknowledge Marcelo Tinelli and Matthias Lammens for their personal qualities and professional qualities , for their excellent management, their honest work, their seriousness and commitment, favoring human beings above all other interests, all of which results in a clear path for our Club, and even from a distance certainly gives me satisfaction.

We sincerely thank you for so much love ”

Fabricio Coloccini and Marcelo H. Lombilla

Just seen on ssn that real madrid want diego lopez. Why dont they like casillas anymore. He’s quality… and he’s exactly the same age as lopez so what is the bloody point

  • 406 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:58 PM

Do you reckon SSN n wenger would be spouting off about our transfer buisness if we had bought from 2-3 different leagues? Because they just sound boring now so what we’ve bought only from france, thats because we’ve bought 5 top players for the price of one championship english youngster!!!

  • 407 dembademba // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:58 PM

9 mil bid for aubameyang, i reckon it will be hard for them to turn that down. would be awesome if he comes now, he would be a beast but if theyve got to the cup final it would be hard to walk away from that.

whats his contract sitch?he cant be out of contract this season surely?

  • 408 Pardews Parsnip Bonce // Jan 25, 2013 at 10:59 PM

@les it has all gone quiet on the negative front but you know as soon as one of these lads doesn’t look world class in a game there’ll be “we should have left him in France” and “he’s championship quality” type posts

  • 409 outsidethebox // Jan 25, 2013 at 11:00 PM

toonarmydownsouth @398…yeah maybe ..marv is now playing and should be in line up after a slow restart after injury ..amalfitano hasnt gotup to speed ..this isnt a criticism against signings just saying some players take a time to settle enrique took a long while ..could be the french connection makes it a lot easier ..hope so …

  • 410 papscrunt // Jan 25, 2013 at 11:01 PM

@ Paps, Casillas has been pretty poor for a couple of years now. He’s got a huge blunder in him ever few games. He’s nowhere near as consistent as he used to be.

  • 411 Mychal // Jan 25, 2013 at 11:04 PM

@Paps Casillas is injured. He’s going to be out for 8-10 weeks. They needed another quality GK to fill in for him while he’s gone and once he’s back Diego Lopez will be his backup.

  • 412 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 25, 2013 at 11:04 PM

    Doesnt he hate mourinho?

Yup see 100% where your coming from mate, pardew has said the lads will be thrown straight in so hopefully there up for it!

Does anyone think SAF looked seriously p1ssed during his presser about having to loan back zaha

  • 413 Phil1981 // Jan 25, 2013 at 11:07 PM

I’m over the moon with the quality of the players we have bought the last few days, especially Yanga-Mbiwa, but i desperately think we need a another centre forward.

I believe Cisse is the only centre forward who is of sufficient quality, and he is rank out of form – we lost against Reading because he didn’t take the numerous chances given to him in my opinion – if he had of we could have coped with Pardue’s ‘inspired’ substitutions.

Anyway with Cisse out of form its a little worrying to think where our goals will come from against villa – but on the bright side they are pretty awful so maybe Cisse can bang in a hat-trick!! HWTL

  • 414 Tony // Jan 25, 2013 at 11:07 PM

I thought Casillas had just had surgery on a broken Hand and would be out for three months

  • 415 papscrunt // Jan 25, 2013 at 11:09 PM

Everyone at Real hates Mourinho tbh. Supposedly a load of players gatecrashed a directors meal during the week to say they wanted him out.

  • 416 stuart no9 // Jan 25, 2013 at 11:10 PM

“Just seen on ssn that real madrid want diego lopez. Why dont they like casillas anymore. He’s quality… and he’s exactly the same age as lopez so what is the bloody point” i think perhaps when you have 2 big egos in a side, 1 has to make way. perhaps the team want jose to leave, but the board want him to stay . there is only going to be 1 outcome – 1 has to go .

  • 417 Pardews Parsnip Bonce // Jan 25, 2013 at 11:10 PM

why are the press hating on us buying all these French? would it be the same if we had signed the Spanish first 11? or spent loads on these players instead of getting good deals.
basically we are showing up clubs as mugs for paying massive fees and they don’t like it

The press hate us full stop. The press only like it when we are being idiots and look like a foolish club. We’ve spent wisely, the English market is a joke. Look at Zaha £15m for a player who’s had a good 18 months in the SECOND TIER. And look at all the quality we’ve signed for around the same?

  • 424 BandB // Jan 25, 2013 at 11:28 PM

I’ve criticised Ashley. He has just done what I have been prompting him to do. Why should I, or anyone else didn’t say they were chuffed with one major signing in the summer because our kids were world class, feel anything less than vindicated. So why should I hide or disappear? As Ed said himself, Mr A seems to have realized he made a mistake. And the corollary is, that those who backed that policy, not me, were mistaken too. I would have continued to go to watch them whatever happened. So it’s all good for me. We have, for all the faffing about, signed some very good players in the past two years. And credit to Sir Mike for a competitive SQUAD at last, and the rejection of the 10 or 11 purples crap.
I’m now hiding out In Bruges, having held a portly gentleman at gunpoint in a darkened cellar for two weeks.

Looks like this PEA is going to be a non starter think its kind of like Remy in that he really does not want to come to us and is holding out for a better offer

If we really are wanting another striker which i hope we are lets just stop chasing him and go for someone else RVW could be the man although i think him and PEA would be a bit too powder puff for our league

Dont really know who else for the Toon to buy they have bought the 3 players that I have been dreaming we would get for about 2 years which are Mbiwa, Sissoko and Debuchy so any other strikers and I would be over the moon like

    1) Mapou will kick Williamson a** back to where he belong – at the reserves!

    2) Jonas will never play again. No end product in the last 25 games for us?

    3) Gouffran will gave some competition/backup for Cisse.

The whole right side of our team could essentially be the france squad…

    RB Debuchy
    RCB MBiwa
    RCM Sissoko
    RW Ben arfa

then cabaye in the central CM.

    ~~~~~Ben Arfa~~~~~~Cisse~~~~~~~~~~Gouffran/Marv
    looking at the collo letter i can’t believe thats from him and i seriously believe that that club are just milking every bit of publicity they can get!
    and this personal reasons “excuse” that he supposedly mentions in the letter he thanks them for keeping it quiet but they don’t think twice on posting the letter on the internet!!
    this whole thing stinks and i’ve seriously lost a lot of respect for collo
    he needs to release a statement or a “letter” to us the fans that have supported and payed his bloody wages for the last 5 years to maybe tell us what his future holds ?!
    then i’d actually respect him more,doing it this way or through another club on the other side of the world is un-proffessional and a bit cunntish!
