Newcastle have been linked again with French midfielder William Vainqueur, who we were linked with earlier this month. The player was born in Neuilly-sur-Marne in France (where else? ) and started his career at Nantes, before joining Belgium club Standard Liege in August of 2011 on a five year contract, and he has one cap for the France U21 side, which he picked up back in 2009.
William Vainqueur – Newcastle interested?
The defensive midfielder stands 5’11” tall and has so far played 66 times for Liege and scored four goals in the Jupiler Pro League. Earlier in the month Southampton were also interested in the player but we’re not sure whether the south coast club are still interested in Vainqueur.
Newcastle could be interested because it seems the player has recently fallen out with the Liege coach Mircea Rednic, who said this about his player a couple of weeks ago:
“I’ve told Vainqueur he needs to take more responsibility.”
Newcastle are preparing an offer for the 24-year-old midfielder, according to the Belgian daily Derniere Heure.
Vainqueur is said to be rated at around £2.5M, and he has a five year deal at Liege which runs out in 2016, but it does seem that Newcastle are still trying to bring in new players in January.
Of course Newcastle could be interested in the player for a summer transfer, although the club have already brought in five Frenchman so far in this January transfer window.
He’s another Frenchman – so we suppose that makes it possible he could be joining Newcastle before next Friday rolls around. 😀

Comment #2I think this would be highly unlikely for several reasons:
1) overload of midfield options
2) Sissoko has just been acquired
3) more money would have to be spent
4) A winger/striker is more needed

Comment #3Tioté, Sissoko, Anita, Perch, Jonas, Cabaye, Bigirimana all can play CDM. We do not need another! A forward is a must however!

Comment #4I dont think this one is necessary. As said above we have plenty of options for the CM/DM role.
Striker/LW has to be main priority. RvW or Dries Mertens would be awesome.

Comment #8I think we could be cleaning house if this is true. We should be striving to improve the quality and there’s no guarantee that some of our signings will cut the mustard. Good to have plenty of options. Allows us to sell the dross. However as a priority we should be signing another striker. Then a backup keeper or one to challenge krul, but land would be ideal. Next we need our signings to gel and fire us up the league.

Comment #10On Villa this forthcoming Tuesday.
I’ll predict again…
Guitterez to start. Gouffran to play right wing/cf like Cisse was and Ameobi did against Reading.
No Yanga-Mbiwa. Steven Taylor to start.

I agree with you I think that’s what Pardew will go for. I’m leaning towards Sissoko on the bench with the same 3 in the middle as against Reading. Before anybody slates me that’s not the team I would pick but the one I think Pards will.

Comment #17Tell yous who looks a cracking young striking prospect, seen quite abit of him this season… Matej Vydra he’s only 20 but he’s quick and skilful and has a cracking eye for goal, on loan at Watford from Udinese, scored 16 in 18 starts for Watford

Comment #28I don’t think there is much behind this rumour. Newcastle are after a striker, and they have been looking at attacking midfielders most suited to playing just behind the striker. aubameyang is a must!

Comment #38As much as I would love Bony, I cannot see it happening.
It seems as if we have identified our weaknesses and are currently strengthening. The area we are weakest a is that LW.
Gouffran is a CF. Fast, strong and a good finisher.
We don’t really need Bony, PEA or RVW at this moment in time. They can wait until the Summer. What we need is a live wire SS/LW who can really create chances for the strikers.
I think that’s what we should/will do.

Comment #39I would prefer van Wolfswinkel to Boney.
They are both good players but we would lose Boney to the AFCON competition every time it is played!
Ricky has just been called up to the Dutch National Team for the friendly against Italy on 6 Feb, after he,s played in that his price will probably go up as its his first cap.So if we go for van Wolfswinkel we need to get him before the summer, and preferably next week!
Vitesse Arnem will be asking at least 15Mil Euro,s before they even consider selling Boney. The club ( Vitesse ) have lost their last two games after Boney left to play in Africa earlier this month.
