Pardew – We Just Couldn’t Compete For Wilfried Zaha

9:38 am, Sunday, January 27th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 28 Comments

The Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has revealed that he wanted to bring Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha to Newcastle United, but admitted he had no chance against the spending might of Manchester United – who shelled out an amazing £15M for the 20 year-old.

Wilfried Zaha – going to Manchester United

And to think for a couple million more than that £15M figure ,Newcastle have got some great value this month in bringing in 27 year-old Mathieu Debuchy, 23 year-old Mapouu Yanga-Mbiwa, 26 year-old Yoan Gouffran, 20 year-old Massadio Haidara and 23 year-old Moussa Sissoko.

Not bad value for Newcastle in January – which is always notorious for being difficult to bring in good players from other clubs - because it’s halfway through the season.

But Newcastle couldn’t pay out £15M for one 20 year-old,  and this is what Alan Pardew said about the Crystal Palace whiz kid:

“There is slightly more value in the French market. Obviously we have exploited that.” “I like Zaha – I wanted to bring him to this club.” “But seriously, we had no chance. We just can’t pay that.”

“We have bought four players for that. It suited our needs better to strengthen several positions for that sort of money.” “I’m now good, I’m angry – and I’m ready to rumble!’’

It’s worth noting in the latest Deloitte financial figures for last season, only six clubs in England made higher revenues than Newcastle United – and they were Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham - so in that sense we are England’s 7th richest club and the 20th richest football club in the world.

But it’s a hiccup this season that we’ll not be in Europe next season,  and that will hit the revenues – but of course – given where we are in the league table at the moment – just staying in the Premier League this season will be good enough for us. :D

The next 4 days are going to be intense farken..!!

Who has actually watched Bony play regularly? He has an amazing scoring record but that is a seriously weak league. Remember the likes of Kezman and Alves?? Having watched a few youtube videos I would say he looks strong and knows where the goal is but very slow and he requires everyone around him to create chances (much like our Cisse). I worried that they wouldnt link up too well and would be annoying to see Cisse pushed to the left or right in a front 3… RVW or PEA for me :)

why do u say we will not be in europe? we have srenghtended the squad so we can win el. i realise some of them can’t play in el, but the players that get rested in the bpl will do good, pluss we have players coming back, i would say we have a fair shot at winning it… :-)

  • 7 Oldgit1 // Jan 27, 2013 at 9:49 AM

If we did buy buy him, we would not have been in a position to loan him back. Soit was never going to happen. Would take ince though and Ap was recently at a Blackpool match. Would buy him just to pi55 off l’pool.

@jayden totally agree Tom once would be a much better acquisition can play on either flank, and think he could play just behind our main striker.
He wouldn’t cost half as much as well.

havnt been on here much lately. thrilled with the signings. first time for a while iv been really optomistic!!

re the butland rumour. does anyone else find it a little startnge that we were linked with him?? sure the lad is only 19 but hes is top drawer and many pl clubs have been linked with him. surely we would only need him if krul was on his way out. think elliot has shown on numerous occasions that he is more than up to the task of being our no.2 keeper

just seen this on the sky sport news transfer clockwatch.
San Lorenzo’s promising playmaker Alan Ruiz is wanted by Greek club PAOK but he’ll cost €10million (£8.5m). San Lorenzo president Matias Lammens told Radio La Red: “There has been an approach from a very important team from Greece. The supporters know that we can’t refuse a proposal like this.”
    ————————–
Sounds like more bullshit from the San Lorenzo president. According to transfermarkt, Alan Ruiz is valued at €750,000, not €10million

PEA club said “Following the rumours that have appeared in the media linking Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a move to Newcastle, AS Saint-Etienne wish to make clear that the player, his agent and the club have collectively agreed to refuse all offers made thus far.”

…made thus far. They are certainly not saying they wouldn’t sell a any price.

I don’t know enough about RVW PEA or Bony to comment.

  • 13 Gateshead-Mag // Jan 27, 2013 at 9:55 AM

i for one rekon we have just as much chance as anyone left in the europa. there are a few quality teams wed have to beat though

  • 14 Hatem's better than Messi // Jan 27, 2013 at 9:56 AM

    We do need another goalie.

Harper looked slow pre-season, perhaps time has caught up with him and he can’t cut it.

  • 15 Marty-Toon // Jan 27, 2013 at 9:58 AM

    @sandino
I like your faith,we couldn’t beat Brighton but we can win the EL :-)
We’ve strengthened the squad and those brought in will mainly be used in the PL but we can certainly make the next round of the EL and anything can happen but there’s a lot of top teams in there now.
Would just like to see us closer to 10th place very soon

  • 16 Gateshead-Mag // Jan 27, 2013 at 9:59 AM

    hatem

harper can still be our 3rd keeper untill one of the younger lads comes through. iv been impressed with elliot this season

you not think butland would want to go to a club where he could be number 1? the lads top drawer

  • 17 Oldgit1 // Jan 27, 2013 at 9:59 AM

@ Gateshead -mag to be honest I’m not concerned about the Europa cup, staying in the epl is far more important, re-group for next season then see how it goes.

  • 18 davybtoon // Jan 27, 2013 at 10:00 AM

Harper is out of contract in the summer, as for butland he’s real quality keeper never mind ppl saying no 2 butland is good enough to take no1

  • 19 corkypants85 // Jan 27, 2013 at 10:02 AM

Good to see pardew with a bit of spirit its amazing what a week can do! He looked deflated after reading lets hope it rubs of on to the players!!!

  • 20 Jayden // Jan 27, 2013 at 10:02 AM

What’s Butland like on the deck?

  • 21 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 27, 2013 at 10:03 AM

    Davyb
Yeah but bonys agent said weeks ago if he moved then it would only be to chelsea or liverpool

  • 22 Marty-Toon // Jan 27, 2013 at 10:03 AM

As for Zaha well he’s a top player but being English he’s overpriced, again though I’d also like Ince in the side for half the money,he’s very direct and knows where to put the ball for strikers.

  • 23 Hatem's better than Messi // Jan 27, 2013 at 10:03 AM

    Gateshead Mag

We need competition for all places.
Plus it’s just a question of when an offer comes in for Krul.

    Brum are desperate to sell.
The lad is class. 3.5M is a steal.
Why not us? We can always loan him out.

  • 24 davybtoon // Jan 27, 2013 at 10:06 AM

Tads n remy didn’t want to speak to qpr look were he is, Chelsea n Liverpool arnt even after him

  • 25 northernirishtoon // Jan 27, 2013 at 10:09 AM

Good to see a bit of positivity from pardew for a change. Looks like these signings have given everyone a lift – fans, manager and I hope all our players who are playing at only 70%

  • 26 Whoarya.com // Jan 27, 2013 at 10:21 AM

It would be more accurate to say we won’t pay that sort of money not can’t?

That’s the truth isn’t it? Ashley clearly has the money but he has more sense.

If any of these “investments” comes off including Zaha the sell on price will be the same so it doesn’t make sense for us to waste money until we have more money than sense.

  • 27 reccerobbo // Jan 27, 2013 at 10:22 AM

I for one would like to see Steve harper move in to a coaching role at the club once his contract is up.
He has been a loyal servant to the club and if his playing career is over would like to see the club offer him a job to stay.
He loves the club so why not??

  • 28 ASTORIA // Jan 27, 2013 at 11:26 PM

Who needs £15M star signings? Give me the £1M bargains any day. Ashley is clearly the bargain basement king of transfers. Keep them coming Dekka and Mike…you are our new heroes!!!

I can’t believe I ever had any doubts. The team moral is obviously really high at the moment, what with Collo now wanting to stay instead of being forced to by contract restraints. We got £7.5 for that flop BA who all of the fans now hate and spent just over double for 5 players!

I know that as we one of the 20th richest clubs money is tight.

I admit I have never heard of any of our new signing but I am sure they will be capable of pushing us onto a top 12 respectable finish. Here’s Hoping!!!
