Fabricio Coloccini has finally come out and talked to the Newcastle fans and explained as best as he can that he has a personal problem, but that he will be giving 100% for Newcastle United through the end of the season.
A smiling Fabricio Coloccini in training yesterday
This is what Colo said today on the Newcastle United web-site:
“The last few weeks there has been a lot of talk about my future.” “But I am staying here. And of course I will give 100 per cent like I always do.” “I have been here five years and Newcastle has given me a lot and done a lot for me. I have to be true to the club. I will give 100 per cent.”
“I love football and once I am on the pitch it is different. The problems I have are outside the pitch.” “I think if you look at a game like Norwich or the last few games I have played normally. The results were not the best but I have given everything to try to win.”
“I heard in the city and around the club that the fans think I have my head elsewhere thinking about other things, or that I am not the same player as last season.” “But, like I say, for me football is my life, I love it. When I am on the pitch I give everything to win.”
“I give 100 per cent. I did that at Newcastle, Deportivo La Coruna or any club I’ve played at.” “The fans have to know and be sure that when I am the field I give 100 per cent. I am the captain of the team and I take the responsibility.” “I think everybody has problems outside of their work in life.”
“It is difficult but now I am here and all I have in my head is to make sure we are in the Premier League next year. That is my only objective.” “In the last few days the newspapers picked up a letter that I wrote.” “The letter is true but the meaning of it is different once translated from Spanish to English.”
“I never said that I would go back to San Lorenzo. I never spoke to any team – the only reason to go back to Argentina would have been personal problems.” “But they knew I am a supporter of San Lorenzo and the fans were excited because they thought ‘he supports us and this is a big chance to come to San Lorenzo’.”
“The rumors were crazy because they thought I was coming back.” “I would like to say to the supporters of Newcastle United Football Club that I want to stay here and I thank them for supporting me.” “The last few weeks has been difficult for them, I recognize that.”
“This is my work and my job and I have to separate my job and my life. Everybody in life has problems and it is normal. That is life.” “I am alone here with my family. We don’t have grandparents here or uncles and aunties.” “It does make it difficult. Not for me personally, because I come to work everyday, but for my kids and wife.”
“Here though, the Club and the fans are my family at the moment.” “The love that they give to me with my song and on the pitch for me is fantastic. It’s the best present they can give me.”
Those are very welcome comments from the Argentine International – and they will certainly help to end any doubts about Fab’s commitment to the Newcastle cause – and we expect Colo to give another solid and cultured performance at the back for Newcastle tonight at Villa Park.
Excellent words from Coloccini today – and they will help the squad to settle down.
Now we need to hammer Villa. 😀
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Reading between the lines…he hates Pardew? 🙂
Glad he’s made a statement and hopefully the team and fans alike are behind in and we can now push on.

Comment #4chelsea have made an approach to #bcfc for Jack Butland. But player and his advisors want a move where he would get 1st team football. #SSN
So unless Krul is off, we wont be getting him… surely?

Comment #6Well fair is fair, i slated him the other day for his letter to San Lorenzo so after reading through the interviews i do feel a bit better about the situation. still feel that this interview or message should have come to us before his letter to Argentina but nevertheless happy to support him til the end of the season. also seems as though the move to san lorenzo was far far from anything concrete unlike what his big mouth dad was saying..

Comment #7Collo playing alongside Mbiwa tonight with Debuchy and Santon will give us a very strong back four indeed. With Anita and Sissoko in front of them, Villa will be getting very little in our third of the pitch.
I can see us keeping a clean sheet tonight, which leaves it down to the front four to bang a couple into the net.

Comment #10On the young players not cutting it – we are not the only ones. Brendan has been having a right go at the Fool’s younger players for lack of motivation, how they lack commitment etc. Maybe its just his generation of footballers have had oit all to easy and just ain’t used to working for what they get on their pay packet. That’s why the kids like Bigi from poorer backgrounds who’ve had to work hard to get where they are show more maturity and will be much better footballers.

Comment #11Timing of this is fantastic. Everything that’s going to come out already has, so perfect time to set things straight. Right before an important game, too. Colo and mbiwa start, and saylor on the bench. Williamson….well….

Chelsea have Cech and Courtois as keepers Butland would stand no chance…we have Krul, a shot Harps (heartbreaking) and Elliott I reckon Butland would have far more chance of first team footy with us

Comment #15I was worried about the fans reaction tonight. But now we can go there with a very different view, back to how we thought of Collo before all this mess. Looking forward to giving him the support now. I don’t care if this message from him is late or jazzed up, as all I want is a focused player. HTL.

might be something to do with academy system where they re treated differently from a very young age and dont have to cut their teeth in the real world and places like boys club football … probably and understandably breeds arrogance.

I feel the same. You see so many kids who have it all now that they just expect to have an easy ride. I’m not old myself but a heck of a lot has changed in the past 10 years or less.
There is almost a divine right that people think they will walk into any job (be it footballer or any profession) and expect to be instantly respected and given the same pay, etc as those who have years of experience.
Obviously this is not true of everyone, but there are growing numbers who act this way.

Comment #21TS – Good morning, sir.
I’m currently in England until Friday but I still speak to my contacts in France. The only thing I know, is that there has been lots of movement and buzz around PEA during the past 36hrs. Last week it was a flat out NO to a transfer, at the weekend it was a POSSIBILITY and today…the feeling around the club is that it could be “inevitable” that interest in Aubameyang is firmed up. The club have been scouting potential ‘replacements’ around France and Italy, which again makes you think they are expecting something.
What have you heard, sage?

Comment #22I think Yo-Yo is right about this generation of youngsters not having to work hard for their pay packet and it reflecting in their development. Take d*ck head ranger for example posting that picture of his name in money, what exactly did he do to earn that cash?! He doesnt even go to work on time!! But where Bigi does differ is that he played a full championship season at a young age which was valuable experience. I cant see fergie not applying himself at training can you? just needs games

Comment #24We now have 3 good centre backs, and 2 very attack minded full backs. Why not try a 3 at the back with proper old school wingbacks? Then compress the midfield so ben arfa and marveau can get a bit more in amongst it to creat chances for cisse
————————–Krul
—————-colo —- saylor —mbiwa
Debuchy ———Cabaye —— sissoko —– santon

This is a great time to explain the situation and gives the fans a further boost for tonight on top of the new players.
I understand translations are difficult, translating words is easy, translating the true meaning and tone of something is often difficult…I mean it can be hard to understand what a person truely means when they right in english, things can easily be taken out of context even without a language barrier.

\Just a little worried about Pardew’s comment about looking around tonight and having a much stronger bench??? Hope he means that he’s dropping some of the poorer performers (Willo, Shola etc) and that he’s buttering them up a bit rather than actually (god forbid) having Yanga-Mbiwa and Gouffran on the bench. I’d be well pee’d off if Yanga-Mbiwa doesnt start. He’s got to be more match ready than Saylor ffs.

I genuinely believe butland will sign for Liverpool as Reina’s replacement in the summer. Not keen on butland, very over rated in my eyes.

Comment #31Yo….I haven’t seen much of him tbh, but know he’s rated quite highly and that is always welcome at the toon as far as I am concerned.
Time will tell, I have however been quite impressed with Elliot when he’s been called in. If we intend to keep Krul, which I hope we do, then we should be looking at an even younger keeper to bring on, much like we did wor Timmy (if they could be English it would be great).
Is it KO yet? This day is dragging on 🙂

Yeh – success is down to attitude and graft. Hope Fergie makes it through the ranks and we’ve got some talent in the development squad – they just need the right attitude – but Rodgers went ape about bindippers losing to Latics and it was just the same as our Brighton shambles.

I just think butland gets a lot of undeserved praise.
I think he looks good as he makes a lot of saves, he is in a poor birmingham side which ship a lot of goals so he gets the chance to make a lot of saves and stand out.
However when I see him I think he makes too many mistakes, soccer saturday annoy me saying ‘its an uncharacteristic mistake from butland’ far too often, it has now become characteristic in my eyes.
But saying that there is plenty time for him to improve and develop, he could become good if he keeps his drive and focus.
I still think jason steele from the smoggies is twice the keeper.

Comment #39Yo….I think we have been spoiled in the past by always having a keeper we deemed good enough to push our No.1. Not too many promising keepers will be happy to just play motivator to the current starter, so we’ll have to go young and unknown imo.

How many clubs have a 2nd keeper genuinely pushing to start? not that many really…its not a position where you get good back up as most want to move on.
I think our best bet is somebody like given returning…..providing he is happy to be back up it would push krul as he has experience and would keep him on his toes, plus offer great advice.
