Harry Redknapp – Sissoko’s A Fantastic Signing For Newcastle

10:25 am, Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 42 Comments

Harry Redknapp managed to beat us to one of our targets in January – Loic Remy – but he wasn’t able to tempt Moussa Sissoko away with those big money offers to join that small club in London – but he wanted to.

Harry Redknapp likes the new Newcastle players – especially Sissoko

Harry had scoured Moussa when he was at Tottenham and tried to sign him then, and gave it a try this month too – to bring the lad to QPR.

Harry Redknapp talked about the player last night after his side drew 0-0 at home to Manchester City – a good result but QPR will need more than draws is they are to survive in the Premier League this season.

This is what Harry said about Newcastle’s new midfield powerhouse:

“Sissoko’s a fantastic signing. I’d liked to have got him but Newcastle have absolutely nicked him.” “The figures were very high but it still worked out cheap as there was no transfer fee. But he’s a good signing and I think Newcastle will do well with the players they have signed.”   “He’s a real powerhouse and will be a really good player in England.”

There was a transfer fee, because Sissoko’s Toulouse contract still had six months to run – but it was a small fee – and very small for a player already this good – and he will only get better at Newcastle, just like Cabaye has.

Moussa will become a target of some top clubs if he keeps performing the way he did last night in his debut, when in that first half he was certainly a powerhouse for the Newcastle side, and looked like Patrick Vieira – the former Arsenal central midfielder.

But it will take a lot more than the £2M Newcastle are said to have paid Toulouse to get this player away from Newcastle – try 10 times that amount for starters.

i think thats how much you know about football

it was the softest pen iv seen in a long time,,

he gave it for a strong shoulder charge, cos both of there feet landed side by side,,

and the last time i checked ,, you were aloud to do that

Catchy. The day i get dragged into pointless discussions with idiots, will be the day you think Pardew is a good manager

  • 3 Moe-NUFC // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:33 AM

    repost

Great display from the new signings.
I Was looking forward to see Sissoko in the Black & White shirt and boy did he not disappoint. Very solid and composed display.
I think Pardew want to use him like how Mancini uses Yaya Toure between a free roaming offensive role and a defensive role.
Gouffran I thought had more than a decent game, wasn’t expecting much from him but he proved that he can be a handful and a real asset to the team.
Mbiwa was unlucky to be sent in such a bad time.

To all those Guti haters I gotta admit, I wasn’t very excited either to see his name in the staring XI. His offensive contribution wasn’t great, but in that second half I’m almost sure we couldn’t have held into that win without his defensive contribution.

It was a scrappy 2nd half but ppl have to realize that we needed the points more than anything else at our current situation.

Harry Redknapp, the Eastenders market trader

    @MrMojoRisin

You’re not going to be making many comments then!
Don’t reply to this. I’m about as stupid as they come. ;-)

  • 8 JackButler // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:35 AM

Marv out for three weeks :(

  • 9 Tommyy // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:36 AM

Last night I was shocked at Perch starting instead of Anita, but Perch had a solid and reliable game so can’t complain now.
The second half wasn’t what we wanted but these things happen, that was the strongest look villa side I’ve seen for a few weeks and they were bound to go for it at some point being at home and fighting relegation.
We will improve and at home we shouldn’t come under so much pressure for such a long period of time.
My one grip was Jonas. For me he’s finished, he was woeful and anyone defending his performance has well and truly been indoctrinated.

Don’t worry Hatem, your on the good guy’s list.

Was nice talking to you :D

  • 12 Newcastle Brown Alien // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:36 AM

we nicked him?!?!?!?! its not like them remy situation when you hijacked a move, he came directly to us as he is not driven by greed.

  • 13 Tommyy // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:38 AM

Real shame about Marveux, he was just getting into a run of form. This side will never be at full strength anyway so it would only have happened to someone else.

  • 14 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:38 AM

JB…Don’t be down, he’ll be like a new signing come Feb ;)

For the penalty, didn’t Debuchy step on his foot, albeit just a little?

I actually noticed a few instances of little digs from Debuchy, he’s certainly not afraid to get stuck in, needs to be careful though.

  • 15 TorqToon // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:38 AM

So let me get this straight – we can’t say the word ‘beast’ or ‘negger’ now due to some self created racial issues?!?!

Howay man – who has so little to do in their own time that try and create problems that don’t exist!?!

This blog is very well run and issues that have been slightly confrontational have been tackled by the users themselves! I remember somebody calling himself ‘Ameobi’ made a joke relating to rape in the wake of the ranger arrest. He was brought down to size immediately and apologised.

This is a non-issue and I hope the race card isn’t player again for no reason, as it has been this morning.

    Ridiculous…

  • 16 Transfer Sage // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:40 AM

I think it was fairly given as pen, debuchy did should barge him (fairly), but also caught him with his right foot and then his left foot/shin pushed onto the back of agbonlahors legs.

A perfectly fair penalty to give in my eyes, may be on the soft side, but a penalty.

  • 17 TorqToon // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:41 AM

NBA – Spot on! The bloke was desperate to come to us he TURNED DOWN money to make the move…

…you won’t ever see Remy doing that!

  • 18 JackButler // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:41 AM

It was a very soft pen and Gabby is known for going down very easily, but the ref was poor all night, the amount of late/poor tackles that went in during the second half could have seen them down to 10 men

  • 19 Mashley u Batfastard & lambiarse u Cupid stunt // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:41 AM

Tell the truth o’ floppy chops your really pissed off because his not your signing !

  • 20 Transfer Sage // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:42 AM

    torq

Agree. This blog is pretty well self policed.

don’t even get many posters swearing or writing offensive things which is always good.

  • 21 TorqToon // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:43 AM

Considering he is a terrible manager who doesn’t have a clue – he seems to have the upmost desire for the team to succeed – as well as the complete respect from all the players! :-)

  • 22 Transfer Sage // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:44 AM

    jackbutler

I agree the ref was poor mind you. I think that if he gave that as a pen then there were far worse tackles from both sides which didn’t even result in a free kicck

  • 23 TorqToon // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:44 AM

Sage – Nope. It’s very well done.

    For the most part…! :-)

  • 24 JackButler // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:45 AM

    Transfer Sage

the one Jonas was very poor and he gave nothing other than booking Jonas for decent

  • 25 Transfer Sage // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:46 AM

the word negger is written incorrectly on here.

I have seen it used before as nega as in ‘nega’tive…but not the way it is used here.

Sure it’s not a racist thing though.

  • 26 Wayayman // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:46 AM

I’ll forget about Jonas’ poor display. I’ll not mention the back-to-front substitutions. Hell, I’ll not go there with Villa’s obvious bullying tactics trying to get one of oour boys sent off in the second half.

Instead I’ll just wallow in the sheer delight of Sissoko’s Gazza-esque pass to Cisse where he almost tackled Santon just to make sure we won the ball. And I’ll bathe in the afterglow of Cabaye’s beautiful strike. The first touch to tee it up, then… Booom…
Lying here in a bath of warm Broon Ale with a tab on the go, I’ll remind myself of Yanga-Mbiwa throwing himself into that block just when Villa were hitting us with everything they had.

Back into the room, back into the room…

  • 27 Transfer Sage // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:48 AM

    jack

exactly….if thats not a foul then the penalty shouldnt be as it was much less.

I dont mind the penalty as it was clumsy, debuchy had no need to make the tackle so it was silly from him.

  • 28 joeinthecheapseats // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:49 AM

Roll on Saturday and hope Ba gets the reception he deserves.
First half the team played excellent without the penalty we may have pushed on for another.
Sissoko looks the real deal in the midfield another forward in to help Cisse and Gouffran then this will have been the carlsberg window.

  • 29 Hatem's better than Messi // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:51 AM

Debuchy put in a great early “tackle” on N’Zogbia … slowed him down for a while.

HBA back soon, then Tiote & Marv.

3 points in the bag, plus a bit of confidence in the squad.

    HWTL

  • 30 toonfield // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:51 AM

I get the feeling the work behind the scenes was done a long time ago on sissoko, he was always going to sign on a free in the summer,
Sounds like sour grapes from old floppy chops that qpr couldn’t do another “remy”

  • 31 tweaked // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:51 AM

now his pricetag is 30m plus :-D

  • 32 Phatoon // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:54 AM

To be fair to Redknapp, I don’t think he means that Newcastle stole him from another club (eg QPR), but the fact we got him so cheap “it’s like daylight robbery”.

I still hate him (Harry) and everything about him, but that’s how I read that comment.

  • 33 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:55 AM

Just hope QPR dont survive as Harry will be trying to buy everyone we go for !!!!

Still buzzing over that 1st half performance and 2nd half scrap which got us a win!!

Come on the blog today to see people talking about beasts and neggars being racist?!?!Behave!!!

Come up to sunny Glasgow and see the term beasty used in every day language from beasty tune to that guy looks like a beast!!!ha ha

Quite a lot of rumours today that Siem De Jong will be signed before 2moro online great player but not sure if he is what we need at the moment he is quite similar to Cabaye think we need a proper forward with pace who will play wide left

  • 34 toonfield // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:56 AM

    Lol@ 28
    “Carlsberg window”
    Very funny

  • 35 toonfield // Jan 30, 2013 at 10:58 AM

    Anybody in mind santon?

  • 36 TorqToon // Jan 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM

I hear that QPR have solidified their bid for Capoue. Are bidding £12.5mil and offering £95pw to get him.

  • 37 mindshaft // Jan 30, 2013 at 11:13 AM

Redknapp trying to unsettle Newcastle players by saying ‘the figures were very high’ – is he trying to say that newcastle have paid way over the odds in wages ( errr like his Remy deal) so it’ll cause a rift in dressing room
that bloke is a complete joke, why doesnt he do his job and manage QPR players instead of banging on about toon players all the time

  • 38 aidantoon // Jan 30, 2013 at 11:28 AM

torq do you think we will sign anybody else?
    would like another winger/ forward.

  • 39 Marzy // Jan 30, 2013 at 11:28 AM

I completely agree that Harry Floppy Chops is trying to stair things up with his so called innocent comments there!, one things for certain we wouldn’t of paid over the odds for wages & Fee’s for any of our new players. “we are in a fight to stay in this league & we are in direct competition for everyone below us at this moment and Fat Face Harry is trying to play tricks!!”
Looking forward to Saturday already & tonight actually, hoping results go our way..!

  • 40 lesh // Jan 30, 2013 at 1:26 PM

Rednapp’s got a nerve commenting on other club’s players. He’ll never learn to shut up!!

Aand now he appears to be putting the blame on agents for involving him in deals!!

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/video/2013/jan/28/harry-redknapp-transfer-window-video

Suppose that explains Remy so that’s all right then

  • 41 LooneyToon41 // Jan 30, 2013 at 2:34 PM

Arry’s in for Samba apparently, which is interesting.
I think Ryan Nelson has been QPR’s best player this season, and is the kind of player you need in a relegation scrap. With young Ferdinand off to Turkey on loan, and Nelson off to Torronto, i think QPR will be in deep poo poo if they don’t get a good CB in place.

  • 42 hadthetshirt // Jan 30, 2013 at 3:06 PM

What the “Spiv” means is his brown envelope’s are not working hahaha.
