The Daily Mail is reporting that Newcastle are close to signing 17 year-old Swiss central defender Kevin Mbabu.
Kevin Mbabu – 17 year-old Swiss defender
The right footed 6′ tall youngster who has been at Servette FC for six months, and he has one first team appearance for the Geneva based club, making his debut last September, and Newcastle are hoping to secure him for around a £1M fee.
That’s how much Newcastle paid last summer for Gael Bigirimana, who has looked a good player for Newcastle this season. Manchester United have also been watching the 17 year-old.
Kevin has played 20 times for the Swiss U16, U17, U18 and U19 sides, and is a top up-and-coming Swiss defender and he’s from the famous Team Genève-Servette-Carouge which has produced some good Swiss players in the past such as Philippe Senderos, Reto Ziegler, Fabrizio Zambrella, Jeremy Frick and Kevin Tsimba.
The Servette defender will become part of the Newcastle Development squad, which needs strengthening following as many as eleven players being released last summer – those players just didn’t make the grade at Newcastle.
That’s about all we know about this player – if any readers know this lad or have seen him play – please let us know what he’s like.

Comment #87Does anyone else notice how strange Gutierrez strikes or crosses the ball ? . I see him do it all the time and think it could be the reason his delivery is poor. He did it yesterday for Cabaye’s goal, strange indeed.

I notice his best crosses are from the outside of his boot these days. If he took on the fullbacks more often he might actually get an assist once in a while.

Comment #110Guti is no longer the player he once was but he too serves a purpose like shola
He may not have had the greatest 90 yesterday but
a – he put the ball in the box that lead to the goal, he switched flank and interchanged well with goofy to recieve the ball to make the cross
b – he cleared an almost certain goal thanks to his positioning
to me those 2 involvements justified his inclusion, although i do feel he lost it a bit after that nasty challenge and his head wasn’t really in the game as much as usual
unfortunately i feel an onslaught coming on! lol

The lad is something I sadly stepped in. He usually harmless though usually offensive but I am not prepared to put up with those kind of comments. He does not represent our club, he’s an attention seeking self-loathing individual who can only go about their day by insulting others and making highly offensive remarks. This time the lad has gone way too far.
