Mbabu Signs For Magpies – Abeid Sent On Loan

8:04 pm, Thursday, January 31st, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 482 Comments

As expected Newcastle completed the transfer of the 17 year old Swiss youngster Kevin Mbabu  from Servette for an undisclosed fee, estimated at around £1M.

Kevin Mbabu training at Newcastle today

The 17-year-old center-back is one of the top young defenders in Switzerland, and Newcastle beat out Manchester United to his signature.

Mbabu joined Servette only six months ago and played once for the first team last September, when he came on as a second half substitute against Lausanne.

The is what Kevin said after signing along the bottom line for Newcastle:

“I am delighted to join Newcastle United,” he said. “Today is a big day for me. I’ve always wanted to sign for a club in the Premier League and Newcastle is one of the biggest there is.”

“I want to finish my development here with the Reserves before one day training with the first team and hopefully breaking into the first team.”

Kevin will go straight into the Development squad and Scot Willie Donachie, the manager of Newcastle’s Development squad, had this to say about his latest acquisition

“Kevin is strong, confident, skilful and a very good prospect. “He still has a lot to do as he is only 17-years-old, but I saw him playing for Switzerland Under 19s against Scotland and he did really well. “He can play central defence or right-back and if he keeps working hard then he could have a great future in the game.”

We welcome Kevin to the club.

And Mehdi Abeid has agreed to go out on loan to St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premier League until the end of the season.

The 20 year-old sent out this on his Twitter account after the loan was agreed:

“Départ for saint johnstone on loan for the rest of the season! #needa game!”

Abeid has so far made just two FA Cup appearances for Newcastle, and we’re sure the loan spell with do Mehdi the world of good, because he needs to play some first team games.

21 year-old Paul Dummett will rejoin St Mirren on loan following a very successful loan spell earlier this season, and we expect other top youngsters like Shane Ferguson, Sammy Ameobi and James Tavernier to be sent out on loan to play some first team games through the end of this season.

PS – still a few hours left for Newcastle to sign Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Sporting Lisbon – now that the club have convinced everybody they are doing no more deals in January.

A window of opportunity – we wish. :D

    Good news!!

    Transfer Sage

The point I was making earlier though was that Villa would never have outclassed Cabaye and Sissoko in the midfield, so we didn’t need Anita’s technical abilities, and we saw that very clearly in the first half. Yet still people want to slate Pardew for it.

Putting Anita in as a CDM would have invited Villa to play toward’s Benteke. Perch is obviously the better match up in size and strength. We already know Anita for all his effort, can get bossed off the ball easily. Yet again some people here ignore that for the sake of winning an argument.

Having a 6’1” DM on Benteke was a much better deterrent, and Villa attempted to play less direct instead.

TS and Torq post rumours before they happen?

Yeah. You’re going to have an easier time convincing me Santa Claus is real.

Especially with all those supposed “medicals” we were having over the summer according to Sage.

I don’t know why I come back to this blog.

You can’t win with some people! Perch did his job, we won the game! They are all arm chair managers, play fifa and football manager and think that they could manage a football team! Most couldn’t manage at Sunday league level!

who’s innman on loan to is it brentford ?

  • 17 check the toastie // Jan 31, 2013 at 8:15 PM

Checking the stats from the other night and Perch didnt beat Benteke in the air once, so just what is the point of your argument.

In fact Perch didnt go anywere near him, i agree with Transfer Sage though and thought Perch did well, as he always does, should have stayed on actually, but Pardrip started making bewildering substitutes again.

Yes also agree i can just about accept Perchy playing CM to put his foot in, however Anita should still have played instead of Gutti, he could have played right and Goofy left but that is history now. Perch playing is fine with me, but Anita should also be playing for sure.

And Shola and Jonas should be nowhere near considered a start on current conribution.

Please tell me what medicals I said were due over the summer?

The only one I said I thought was happening was debuchy. I hold my hands up, got it wrong.

But I only ever tell what I hear, there’s a 50/50 chance things at right, if anything less as my friend isn’t involved directly in transfers.

Look at my posts from December where I said we would have our busiest window for ages at get at least 3/4 players.

I don’t claim to know anything for certain but it’s good to pass on what I know.

Torq is the one who has the best info though

  • 20 psutty80 // Jan 31, 2013 at 8:17 PM

    Norcal,

    Cheers bud.

Ahh well, cisse, gouffran, shola & ranger then.

Looking at that, we will hit problems for goals if any one or two are injured. With shola’s injury record and lack of goals it dosn’t make for good reading. Especially as we have europa games aswell.

Lets hope benny, cabaye, gouffran & marveux chip in with enough.

Odemwingie has created a bit of a situation hasnt he? He has just drove to QPR to force a move through haha. Even Harry didn’t know he was coming. West Brom are going wild

Ill mention that Natalie Sawyer again from sky sports news as she is a stunner!

Top shelfer! Cracking pair on her aswell

    She deserves a mention today

It’s ok. I don’t mind if people don’t want to believe me. Each to their own.

I just don’t get why people criticise people like me and torq on this blog when most articles written in here are speculation which is taken from papers which rarely develops into real bids.

I like this blog, ed writes some great articles and brings a lot of rumours together which are always interesting.

I think if people only want official news on transfer they should just stick the clubs official site. They’ll soon get bored of that.

There was logic to using perch on benteke, he in theory should challenge him. In practice it didnt work out. Pardew now knows for next time perch can’t do that role so hopefully he won’t consider him for that again, that’s where the questions will be asked

Wouldn’t mind seeing Anita in Guti’s spot even if he’s not a winger, just because Guti has offered very very little, but in the end that’s Jonas’ natural position it would still be a gamble putting Anita there.

But I’d like to know what stats you’ve found that detail Perch wasn’t “anywhere near” Benteke. The point is using Anita there would invite Villa to play the same longball towards him and he’d win it easily. By matching up Perch, Villa avoided playing to him and played through the midfield more, which was right up our alley.

  • 44 TorqToon // Jan 31, 2013 at 8:28 PM

And I’m also going with Everton to sign Diame after losing out of Fer, or arsenal. They need somebody to protect their backline and Diane would fit.

Heard it’s NOT £3.5mil though – but significantly higher?! Anybody know anymore about this?

    Beattie,

Sometimes you are the most arrogant c**t on here.
Norcal called it right. Its obvious why Perchinho (who can even play as CB – and does) was selected over Anita, clearly a better technical player, and who was brought on as Pards changed tactics. You clearly weren’t watching the same game as the rest of us.

Slagging off another poster in such a totally patronising way does your argument no good at all – which is a pity as there is an interesting debate to be had about how we combat route one teams, given our best mid players are not especially tall – Sissoko excepted.

Reducing things to primary schoolkid level totally destroy rational discussion. All too Alf -like.

I don’t mind decent discussion, valid arguments and interesting points of view but to say we played a DM to cope with the aerial threat of a CF, despite that DM never challenging the CF in the air is ludicrous.

Sometimes I am an arrogant prick, but that is only when someone who a totally invalid argument and tries to base it on inaccuracies.

Say that Perch was played to add muscle to the midfield but don’t talk balls.

That’s what pi55e5 me off about this blog. Too many part time FIFA/Football Manager wannabe’s trying to find method in the madness of Pardews picking of weaker players.

I don’t mind opinions but every time I am covered in the blanket of my own arrogance is when people twist facts into opinion.

  • 90 croftus5678 // Jan 31, 2013 at 8:52 PM

i kinda dont understand what the arguments about tbh
perch had a great game for us but i too think anita is a lot better player only thing perch has over anita imo is a physical presence (not that perch is no good as he’s proved time and time again how good he is)

but what is happening now if we realise it is that we now argue not about squad players with little quality ! its about which player out of a hell of a lot of world class players is better than the other ^^

theres only better ways and uses of what players can do at our club now as i honestly think we can shove any 3-4-5 of our top class midfielders in the team and whoever it is will do a great job capable of beating many a prem team.

Was just going to add to the Perch “debate”, that more than anything, don’t you think he was put in to put in the challenged that would be needed in this type of game? Pardew expected a war before the game and Perch is a battler. I have actually been impressed by the grit in Anita, he doesn’t really hold back, but given the situation and the fact we had other creative talent out there I think it was just a case of putting someone to put in those fearless challenges. Nothing more, nothing less.

    4) Whose penis is the biggest?

Way to keep moving the goal post but I’ll refute that as well…

Shola was the first sub and was brought on obviously for added offense and for his hold up we see him attempt every game.

But because Krul booted away possession and Villa attacked the living hell out of us (pushing all 10 men back) you’re trying to say Pardew subbed him to defend.

  • 124 keeganjr // Jan 31, 2013 at 9:03 PM

  • 125 89Norcal // Jan 31, 2013 at 9:04 PM

The result was Pardew put in another midfielder by subbing Anita for Gouffran, and subbed Sissoko (who was fatigued) for Mbiwa.

But it still didn’t matter because Krul kept passing to Villa’s center back!

Krul having it covered is a guess. Jonas blocking is a fact. Jonas made a decent cross with pace on it which is hard to defend causing the defender to make a mistake and head it to cabaye (fortunate for cabaye).

  • 128 croftus5678 // Jan 31, 2013 at 9:05 PM

    @107

the best jonas has played for a long time but he scares me as i have never seen or want to see a player like him in any team he always tries and wins freekicks his crosses and vision is less than average in truth and he can not take people on like he used to (to get rid of the negatives around him)

the positives are that he gives everything for us wins tons of free kicks and battles hard he’s also quite good defensively which is the part that scares me as he’s a winger and winger should = forward play not back play

i would say change his position but sadly he would not touch anyone in there defensive positions.

I understand both points of view. I think arguments can be made for perch playing. However it didnt work in terms of stopping benteke although there was some sense to it.

I think pardew is too reactive to other teams and bases our team on the opposition too much. There is some logic to it but we go too far and sacrifice too much of our own game on occasions, but normally the balance is about right.

  • 138 89Norcal // Jan 31, 2013 at 9:09 PM

    lol Ibiza, here’s my 2cents

    1) More size vs Benteke and the longball
    2) Anita, would prefer him over Perch as a midfielder (less as a CDM) vs top sides like Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal, etc for his technical ability and supporting play
    3) Anita is tough but in the end, he’s almost a foot shorter than Benteke
    4) idk but my e-penis is ————————————— big :)

Arch…I saw your comment earlier about our newest signing…top hair and a great addition. Shame we’re likely losing Colos in the summer.

I would imagine Willo already has one of those, bless him :)

Beattie…I was a little bit surprised and honestly a little impressed when Pardew took Perch off for Shola. His major DM (and a personal fav for Pardew and his tactics, right?) off and an attacking player on?!? I know it’s Shola, but still. I actually feel Pardew wanted to push on, but the players really lacked confidence after Villas quick start and then the penalty. I’m sure it felt like “Here we go again”, I felt it and I’m sure you did too. If anything I think Pardew was as frustrated with the way things were going on the field and I honestly don’t feel it was down to his instruction. I think the confidence issue is far greater than Pardews tactics at this point, not that he’s any master tactician…

Crossed with pace ? it looked like he clubbed it in with a sand wedge and if you watch his block Krul dives exactly behind Jonas and would have clearly saved it barring a howler.

My problem is that Pardew is rewarding players for under performing. Anita has been arguably our best player the last few months but is dropped, same with Marveaux when he could not get a start despite playing well. What sort of incentive does that give our players ?

I dont know what to think of this window, although I’m over the moon with what we have brought in can’t help but feel a bit disappointed that our future is still being gambled on Cisse staying fit in the same way this seasons success was gambled on STaylor and Collo playing week in week out, I know it was great business these players on the cheap but it’s a lot of ifs and buts as to where we’d be now if Debuchy and Douglas had of been brought in last summer, Willo could have now been shipped out for a fee and with the new recruits might have been in a position to push for top four.

  • 188 BDin9 // Jan 31, 2013 at 9:45 PM

Proud, missed the ??? It was just a general comment on the life of a footballer versus Joe public

  • 189 Rowan Milsted // Jan 31, 2013 at 9:45 PM

Well, really I have no right to complain in a window that saw us bring 6 players in. By anyone’s standards that’s amazing; for us it’s spectacular. Good signings too.

However, I and many others feel that we needed a winger/striker. I don’t expect fireworks from Gouffran and as someone else pointed out earlier he could well take the longest to adapt to the EPL. Delighted with the signings overall but we’re still short on the wings and up top.

I think the best thing about this window is not dreading the prospect of losing most of our top players. Bar Ba (haha) I haven’t heard anything about players leaving, which is both refreshing and good for my blood pressure. Also it sends a message and affirms pride in the club.

Really good news on getting this young lad in too. Good stuff. And 3 new defenders… wow. Hopefully it’s onwards and upwards now but unless something spectacular happens I think we’re done in this window.

On Alf and racism. Went to el Clasico last night an the atmosphere really was electric but one thing I did no expect was racism. It was my first game outside the uk and I have been to many grounds with nufc. But every time Dani alves made a strong tackle or foul there were monkey chants. Still can’t understand it. With so many children present this problem may go on for a while as the next gen will think it to be acceptable. Thank god we don’t have this problem in uk.

Did anything happen regarding Suarez and his monkey celebration vs Oldham. Of all the people to do that celebration! Seems to have been swept under the carpet?

  • 202 Spuggy // Jan 31, 2013 at 9:54 PM

I don’t fully understand the cries for a winger. Ok we could do with a world class winger like mertens, but who couldn’t.

We have HBA (soon to be fit), Marveaux (who is showing good form), Gouffran (who looked very good on the LW), Jonas and Obertan. That’s more than adequate for 14 games.

As for striker – Gouffran is a pacey forward, the ideal foil for Cisse, and as a front man scored every other game for the last two seasons.

Surely with Sissoko, Debuchy and Mbiwa also in the ranks we are stronger than we were first half of the season.

  • 203 BelfastMagpie // Jan 31, 2013 at 9:56 PM

Personally I think there will always be racism in football as there will always be racism in human nature. Hopefully it will become rare enough to be drowned out by the rest of us but there will always be incidents. Maybe I’m wrong and I would love to be proved wrong on this but…

I hear a lot of talk in the education sector about inclusion, ‘every child matters’, etc and it’s all good stuff. I’m working hard on it but some of it seems too idealistic. Unfortunately we’re animals by nature and many of us are irrational, xenophobic creatures. I’m pretty sure there will always be a degree of racism, homophobia and general intolerance toward minorities.

The more we act upon it – like teams walking off (good on them) – the more rare it will become. However I think it will always be a problem.

  • 210 Jail for Ashley // Jan 31, 2013 at 10:01 PM

In fact, the closer it gets to eleven o clock and that Paul Whitehouse has said business is closed in the NE, the more I think Saha would be a perfect stop gap unless he’s got designs on going to China or the middle east, I don’t think a few people understand what kind of trouble we’re in if Cisse gets an ankle knock that keeps him out for a month, and by not getting an extra striker we are hampering Adam Campbells developement and must surely be chucking the towel in on the EL.

our prospects seem to be mostly at the age to start competing for a bench or starting spot and the chance for first team experience will do them the world of good.

I’v had enough of reading some peoples drivvel, it’s the same day in day out. While I respect peoples opinions some of it is totally untenable. Slating players, slating the manager, even if we win. Dear me, I’d hate to be stuck in an elevator with ya’s. Totally negative, bring absolutely nout to the table.

    Listen carefully,

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH PARDEW. HE IS THE BEST WE CAN GET. HE FINISHED FIFTH LAST SEASON.

THE BOARD ARE TO BLAME FOR AN UNDERACHIEVING SIDE THIS SEASON. THAT IS WHY HE IS STILL IN A JOB!!!! THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH FOR YOU’S!

Why do you lot expect us to play like Barca with very little confidence and morale with a depleted squad? What gives you the right to expect that? We were in the championship not long ago? Yet, you’s think we should be playing amazing football with not one bad decision from the manager, and slate players who are under performing who have been down on confidence and moral for a long time!

You have no idea why these decisions are being made from Pardew. You’s just slate him. You’s havn’t got a clue. He’s a premier league manager man, who took us to fifth last season! Nuff said!

Wreckless sustitutions? Setting up defensively? Inviting pressure? Eh? Hoofball? PLaying this one playing that one? Are these sackable offensives? Reasons for a change of manager? Are they f**k! And you’s know it!

    Give me a break man!

You’s are trying to jump on any little thing your one sided eyes take you to! And thats because of your hatred for the man, but it isn’t deserved, it’s no where near! He’s your scapegoat. Plain and simple. This is obvious, after all, it’s all you’s spout on about even after we win!

You’s are going to look like mugs come the next few months. Mark my words. The squad has been rectified and now we will pick up where we left off last season. My only worry is an injury or two to a forward, we havn’t got depth there. I’v said it for weeks. The squad was lacking quality in depth, confidence and morale from the very start of the season because of the ridiculous gamble the board took in the summer. That coupled with an enourmous injury list and bad timing. Thats why we are where we are. Not Pardew. He is no mourinho, but he’s not arf bad either. We have had a hell of a lot worse.

    Over and out.

You could look at and ask every manager in the world and I bet he wishes he had of did somethings differently in the 6 months previous? On multiple occasions. I’v said it before, it’s easy to pick the bones out of someone you dislike. And that is all that is happening here with some people.

Get off his back man. It’s pathetic.

I can’t get my head round it all , they must be doing something right behind the scenes or surely the likes of Cabaye wouldn’t be pursuading his mate to come and play, but the way they gamble with the club gives the impression that theyre making it up as they go along, for example if Sissoko who was a huge infulence on Tuesday hadn’t of given up his bonus and stayed would they have paid it or just waited till the summer to save 2M quid.

  • 272 solano // Jan 31, 2013 at 10:31 PM

JFA…it’s not rocket science…we market ourselves as a medium sized, well supported provincial team that will be a stepping stone to a bigger if you do the business. Mike and del and the player (with signing bonuses) all end up winners – while the fans get another dose of ‘jam tomorrow’ promises

  • 273 bollance // Jan 31, 2013 at 10:31 PM

So, xisco contract termination pays for Sissoko, through money saved. More or less. Now where is that Nile ranger..

  • 274 JackButler // Jan 31, 2013 at 10:31 PM

I wish these reporters at Loftus Road wouldn’t ask ‘So, what was the reason for coming to QPR’ and just ask ‘So, just how much are you being paid???’

I honestly believe we would of waited until summer for Sissoko if he hadnt but might just be me. It is weird that our players seem so attached to NUFC all things considered but maybe the atmosphere has something to do with it…Cabs came in and was instantly loved (and maybe the belief in the manager?)

Fans should be protected by unscrupulous owners. I would not wish any club to go bankrupt…………wasn’t Tony Fernandes on Twitter talking about quitting the club the other day…………….I think if an owner pays ridiculous wages beyond the everyday means of the club, then the FA should insist that the owner places those monies immediately into the club for the term of those players contracts to safeguard the survival of the club. Its not on………and recent history has shown that the FA has very poor due diligence re: owners of clubs and fans are very badly let down! Its no different to the “banks” if you ask me……we never seem to learn.

Is this true that Xisco may finally be able to be expunged from the annals of Nufc shame? That must mean he gets tagged onto the bottom of one of Ketsy’s wish lists then, surely?

We should organise a celebration of some sort to mark the happy event. How about a Xisco Disco? Needs the corners buffing but the basic material is there.

Terminating Xisco’s contract does not necessarily mean we save £50k a week. It means either 1. We paid his contract up ie 50k x however many weeks were left on his contract, or 2. We came to a settlement to pay a lesser sum than the remainder in exchange for freeing him from the contract. Legally Xisco holds all the cards so i suspect 1.

Agreed forgot Simmo will probably leave on a free in the summer. So I guess we’re 5 plyrs off a complete squad.
When you get there and have that for a couple of seasons then you can afford to sell players like Spurs do….which then funds new signings. MA still need to invest the same amount of money again to complete the task IMO.

This must be considered one of the best windows ever.

  • 440 nick_9 // Jan 31, 2013 at 11:28 PM

Sky are quick to mention how we’ve lost our top scorer and damaged the English team with a French invasion. It would be nice I they perhaps mentioned how we offloaded a deadwood striker on 50-60k a week, didn’t accept any bids for players we have full control over an signed six players for a net of 15 million in a market that has seen qpr spend 20 million on two players and add 10 million a year to the wage bill for those two players. Samba may have an impact on their Defense but i don’t think they have done enough to help them. Our business is the best done in the window in my biased view

  • 453 nick_9 // Jan 31, 2013 at 11:43 PM

Prodigy this is from the bbc – Redknapp on signings

“We missed out on one or two – but that happens. We were very fortunate to get Christopher Samba as a replacement for Ryan Nelsen. We’ve replaced one excellent player with another. We’ve also took a couple from Tottenham, Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townsend, and I’m sure they will do well for us. This morning we were optimistic of getting Peter Crouch and Peter Odemwingie – they were on our radar – but unfortunately it didn’t happen.”

We were trying to sign him and the lad thought a fee had been agreed between the two clubs. It hadn’t – there was still some haggling going on. It was unfortunate really. Wires got crossed somewhere. He’s a good lad – it was just a mistake. That one is dead.”

    Toon,
Well I’m going on Saturday and I’m firmly in the 30% margain and hope the other 29.9% are sitting around me because I certainly won’t be clapping, imo he played us for a bunch of cnuts threatning to leave if he didnt play central then fu##in off anyway.

    Jail,

Thats exactly my thinking and feelings aswell. I class him as a renegade. Yes, he scored goals but he was only performing for his big move away rather than playing for the shirt.

I hope I hear boos for him I really do

    Newcastle United 3 v 1 Chelsea .

There is a lot of trouble over the proposed new ground for Chelsea … and demolishing Stamford bridge …You cant just bulldoze 6 years of history just like that !

Can’t believe the reporting on Odemwingie- they’re not even mentioning when Gazza came down with some cans and fried chicken to end the stand off!

  • 482 donkeypunch // Feb 1, 2013 at 1:02 AM

Toon-Prodigy good point you have made there about pardew think even a top manerger in his postion would have struggled with the injurys we have had and if we did sack him who would we get to replace him doubt we could get sombody in any better your right its all about confidance with the players and manergers and when you losing every mistake or decision is blown way out of proportion
