Mike Ashley Flies Into Newcastle To Meet New Signings

Derek Llambias has talked to the press this morning,  and said Newcastle are absolutely done in the transfer market this month – so we don’t know if that rules out the reported move for 17 year-old Swiss center back Kevin Mbabu, who will join the Development squad if he is signed today.

Mike Ashley – owner jetted into Newcastle today

And it’s good that owner Mike Ashley has jetted into Newcastle  today to introduce himself to Newcastle’s new signings of last week,  and also meet with Derek LLambias and manager Alan Pardew.

This is what the Newcastle Managing Director had to say this morning:

“Mike has come to say hello to the new recruits, welcome them to the club and see the rest of the team and the manager, so it is good that he has flown in today.” “We are absolutely done. It has been a very busy window for us and we are very delighted that we have those targets.”

“Last time we had a lot of pressure on the last two days, too much pressure, that is not going to happen.”  “Mike has come today to reassure everybody our crown jewels are all in place. And they are absolutely staying.’

Mike Ashley has received high marks from most Newcastle fans last week, for orchestrating getting four top players into the club in four days,  after Newcastle’s terrible defeat at home to Reading a week last Saturday.

The acquisition of some very good players plus the fantastic result at Aston Villa on Tuesday night,  has raised the spirits of Newcastle fans everywhere, and now we hope we can finish above 12th place and 46 points – which is where we finished two years ago.

Newcastle are on 24 points after 24 games at the moment,  and that’s exactly where we were in our relegation season after 24 games played – but we gained only 10 points from our final 14 games in 2009 and ended up relegated – but we should do a lot better this time.

The squad is now much stronger than last month, with some top players coming in and stalwarts like Yohan Cabaye, Steven Taylor and eventually Ben Arfa (two weeks away?) returning from long term injuries.

We seem to be in decent shape – but we have to press on and every one of our last 14 games is important.
