We’re pleased that somebody has mentioned the ridiculous financial deals QPR owner Tony Fernandez is doing in each transfer window – in an attempt to keep QPR in the Premier League – as the owner pays way over the odds in both transfer fees and wages – like the £80K/week he paid Loic Remy to get him to Loftus Road – because that’s the only attraction for top players to join QPR, who have the smallest ground capacity in the Premier League of just over 18,000.
Tony Fernandez – when are these crazy financial deal going to stop?
And after criticizing players at QPR who were being overpaid and were simply average players at best, manager Harry Redknapp seems to have had a change of heart and has been in support of the QPR owner paying out huge wages to both Remy and Samba – who joined QPR in January.
The Financial Fair Play rules introduced by Michel Platini, the President of UEFA a couple of years ago, and were supposed to have European football clubs balance their books within the next couple of years.
And they were supposed to stop these suicidal financial deals by football clubs spending money the just don’t have, but they seem to be having minimal effect so far, as PSG is another good example of a club acquired by Billionaires, who are spending money like it’s going out of style, and heaven knows what wages David Beckham is being paid by the Paris club.
Obviously Tony Fernedez is putting his own money into the London club – because QPR simply cannot afford the wages and transfer fees being paid out, given how little money they must generate in both gate receipts and commercial deals.
Alan Pardew has talked today about losing Loic Remy to QPR – and he suggests QPR are simply not viable financially – and he’s right about that – and everybody knows it too:
“When we lost out on Remy it was pretty evident we weren’t going to get a big striker.” “They are pretty difficult to get over the line.”
“You look around and nobody apart from Remy has really moved – maybe Danny Graham, but I don’t think he’s at that level.” “I think that’s something we will look at in the summer.”
“You always want another striker!” “I want Man United’s position – Van Persie, Rooney, Hernandez and Welbeck. That would be nice. But we haven’t got that.”
“Financially, we’ve done our business.” “You know how we work here. It’s not like we are QPR when the owner is putting in his own money. That is going on.” “But they don’t look viable some of the deals they are doing. We are viable, that’s what we do.”
One thing Newcastle found out four years ago was that when players are only at the club for the money – when push comes to shove in games at the bottom of the league table, they tend to disappear in games when the going gets tough.
That may not be the case for QPR, since Harry Redknapp and his coaching team are very good coaches, but when players are signed on big deals and also have escape clauses put into their contracts should QPR be relegated – you wonder just how committed some of the QPR players are.
QPR can still escape the drop of course, but they need to start winning games, and the commitment of some of their players may be a little worrying for the faithful QPR fans.
But I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.

Comment #83I’m sure that we’ll snap up some bargains on free transfers. Douglas will definitely be one of our first signings. Gomis and Sulejmani are also worth a punt on frees. Belhanda will be £8m, Alderweireld £7m and Benteke/Bony £12m. Coloccini, Simpson, Williamson, Gosling, Shola and Tavernier will be shipped out.
We’ll be challenging Chelsea and Man City for the title if the above business goes to plan in the summer.

Howay with you and you silly ideas! lol
In fairness though we should have bagged him when he was on loan years and years and years and years ago, I remember him scoring a very good goal against Blackburn in the cup for us… think it was his only goal though but we used him as a winger if i remember right!

Agree Belhanda and Aldewield would be good additions. Another RB and a ST and I would say our business is done. I’d make that 4 players for the senior squad and then perhaps a couple for the development team.
Btw does anyone know much about Kevin Mbabu? Is he a good player? Have not seen him play just that Man U were also chasing his signature…..

Comment #94Afternoon gentlemen (and ladies if there are any present)
Must say that I am thoroughly satisfied with our dealings this window, and I’ve gotten over the initial greed mentality that was crying out for an extra striker/LW.
As for Pardew’s comments about not getting a “big striker” and all of those who jumped on it to say “how is that going to make Gouffran feel?” etc really need to stop nit picking at every word Pards says.
From the way he utilised Gouffran against Villa it is pretty obvious that he is more than an out and out striker, in fact he spent more time out wide, but yes he can play up front too.
So instead of moaning at the things Pardew says how about enjoy the fact that we’ve signed 5 first team players and a supposedly excellent youngster in this window?
Perhaps it is asking too much.

Comment #95krul – i was at that game and remember that goal like it was yesterday, never really understood why we didnt make the deal permanent at the time as i remember thinking he was some player. problem is, in his prime (probably at Fulham before he went to Man U) pace was a huge part of his game, now he’s 34 not sure how much
he would have to offer

Comment #96Ibiza – yeo Jonas did miss those games, he was not missed for sure, now we have a stronger middle of the park we dont need him standing on Santons toes, our DCM should be clever enough to cover either full back as they bomb on.

Comment #102Right Back? We’ve got 10 players who can play in that position:
Debuchy
Santon
Anita
Mbiwa
Saylor
Gosling
Tavernier
Gutierrez
Perch
Simpson
We don’t need a left back anymore as we have Santon, Haidara and Anita who can all play there. With Coloccini leaving, centre back is a priority to strengthen. We need 1 winger and 3 strikers.

I have not banged on about APs press statement. But you must confess it is clumsy, and not the first time.
That stated the players do look unified if Villa was anything to go by so I think AP must have created some spirit which will have been buoyed by the welcome and overdue additions.

Comment #111Check…Surely that’s somewhat debatable? Never conclusive, but pretty sure we had major defensive lapses in both of those games and I lost count of how many goals we shipped. Yes they are both good teams and maybe Jonas wouldn’t have helped, but I think there is a strong argument to suggest otherwise.
Also, do you know what’s more boring than a Ruddy post? People who just say he’s boring and dismiss him before entering in to a debate about an issue.

Comment #114Its a big acid test for Pardew now, in terms of choosing Guti, Perch, Marv etc. He definitely has a defensive philosophy – and it can clearky be seen in how unaggressive we are ( Everton at home was amazing ) when we lose the ball, because he is so concerned with getting 2 banks of 4 behind the ball. This is partly why we ended up kicking the ball long so much – and having guys like Willo and Simmo didnt help in that regard. I see Marv as a better CAM attacking option that HBA to be honest. He has much more “heads up” vision. Super player if played right, although the Prem league may not be the best place for him. Finally re acid tests, many of you will know how I lambasted Ashley and Llambias all sunner long and until now about failing the acid test of ambition back then in the summer. Well fair play guys, cos you really passed it now. Very comforting for supporters – just dont go doing anything silly now like relocation St James cos it might make up 5 mill a year or something….

Comment #115Don’t bite off more than you can chew Toastie 😉
Back to football related matters, was looking at that guardian poll about the best signings of the transfer window and read a few of the comments. It is shocking as to how many people think that Sturridge to Liverpool could be considered the best deal of the January window.
a) He hasn’t been prolific at any club he’s played for (albeit he had a good spell at Bolton when he had sustained playing time)
b) His attitude has regularly been shown to be atrocious.
c) He has shown a total unwillingness to play on the wing, which for Liverpool would be necessary to allow rotation of Suarez, Borini etc.
All for the grand sum of £12m? Coupled with the Samba deal I would rate Sturridge’s move to Liverpool as one of the worst of the window, even though he has scored a couple of goals already.

See that’s where I would be inclined to agree with Krul to be Kind on this issue. Instead of seeing it as a clumsy statement, it could be a subtle ploy to rev up Gouffran. A key element of signing players these days is understanding their characters. Pardew would not have said that if he thought Gouffran would kick up a stink and react badly.
If Gouffran takes to the field and bangs in a few goals to show AP that he is the “big striker” we need, then I am sure AP will gladly eat a slice of humble pie, although I think Pards knows Goofy will react to his statement in the right way.
