Newcastle Unchanged – Marveaux, Obertan On Bench

2:07 pm, Saturday, February 2nd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 644 Comments

chelsea

As expected Alan Pardew has named an unchanged side from the side that beat Aston Villa 2-1 on Tuesday night.

But with Gabby Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux now both fit – both players are included in what looks like a very strong Newcastle bench for today’s game.

And it’s interesting that Mike Williamson doesn’t even make the bench today, with young midfielder Gael Bigirimana a substitute this afternoon.

For Chelsea,  Petr Cech and captain John Terry return to the side – and Demba Ba starts up front for the Blues.

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Mathieu Debuchy, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; James Perch, Yohan Cabaye; Yoan Gouffran, Moussa Sissoko, Jonas Gutierrez; Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Gael Bigirimana, Vurnon Anita, Sylvain Marveaux, Gabriel Obertan, Shola Ameobi

Chelsea - Petr Cech; Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, John Terry (c), Ashley Cole; Ramires, Frank Lampard; Oscar, Juan Mata, Ryan Bertrand; Demba Ba
Substitutes: Ross Turnbull, Paulo Ferreira, Cesar Azpilicueta, Nathan Ake, Yossi Benayoun, Marko Marin, Fernando Torres

Referee: Howard Webb (Yorkshire)

Only change I would have had us Marvaux for Jonas not getting at Jonas like some people do I just think Marvaux is a much better attacking player than Jonas

  • 2 papattack // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:08 PM

would of preferred marveaux in there but the bench looks strong.

    c’mon toon!!

  • 3 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:09 PM

Marveaux on bench…. Jonas playing the most out of form player in team is playing…

What is he doing…..ruining ou club….

  • 4 Big Pappa Cissé // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:09 PM

Anita doesn’t put a foot wrong and gets benched. Well done Alan

  • 5 Spreadthetoon // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:10 PM

Lets hope team selection for AP works. Its not what I would have gone with but at least we have a bench with the inclusion of Marveaux and Obertan and Anita who can change things if needed.
I am frustrated with APs team selection but here’s hoping for a win at home. We need this as we only have 4 home fixtures left after this. I am goona go for a brave 3-1 prediction!

I am sick of pardew don’t understand why guti and perch are there

  • 7 Sinner // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:11 PM

Honestly, Jonas starting ahead of Marveaux is completely beyond me!Don’t give me the random defensive duties he does! How can he start ahead of Marveaux who has the most assists to his name! And starting a utility player ahead of proper defensive midfielder in Anita shows that Pardew is running the risk of demoralising the team!

  • 8 MrMojoRisin76 // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:11 PM

Didn’t Pardew say Marv would have started if he was fit on Tuesday?,if he did that say’s to me he might still be carrying an injury,so he should be on the bench.

  • 9 roshan MAGPIE // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:12 PM

marveux has most assist this season for our club is on bench and guti who has 1 assist I think is on the field says all about pardew I want pardew out

  • 10 wingspan // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:12 PM

Those of you moaning about Perchy starting over Anita obviously didnt see the Villa game, he was very good and Anita is too lightweight at times for me.

Same with Taylor over Mbiwa, Tayls was good on tues! Mbiwa looked a bit shocked at the pace when he came on. You dont just throw new signings in against the quality of chelsea!!

Jonas still getting picked however is a mystery, he offers nothing for me.

  • 11 toon1707 // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:12 PM

2-1 cisse first goal 75/1 worth a few quid I think at bet Fred

  • 12 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:12 PM

I am surprised at ppl who are not seeing the mounting evidence this guy has no clue about modern football… Jonas will bea eaten alive completely out of his league ….

We bought Ligue 1 most rated CBs for him to sit on bench…

    its truly amazing….

Alan would bench Messi Iniesta over Jonas and Perch….

  • 13 roshan MAGPIE // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:13 PM

give shola pardew s job and kick pardew out that will get rid of all our problems

Love is blind – I suppose if you’re receiving fellatio regularly off a certain Argentine, you have to return the favour in some way.

It’s the only logical explanation left.

  • 16 MrMojoRisin76 // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:14 PM

I would have liked Anita in the team somewhere to combat Ramires going forward with pace but Perch did well Tuesday, people don’t give him the credit he deserves.

  • 17 Rotonda heights // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:14 PM

why is it that every man jack can see perch and guti shouldn’t be starting except the clown in charge?

Anita and Marveaux probably our 2 best players in recent times replaced by a championship player and a guy whose best days are now well behind him. Sad.
Tevez and Mascherarno for Harwewood and Mullins all over again.

  • 18 wingspan // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:14 PM

Its nice to have a strong bench for once too!

  • 19 toon1707 // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:14 PM

On sky sports app Ba starts Torres is on the bench

  • 20 Tommyy // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:14 PM

Disappointed, thought we were going to attack Chelsea? Anita for Perch and Marv for Jonas, come on Pardew jeeeez.
Oh well, won’t complain too much just yet, will if we lose by a whisker though.

BREAKING CHELSEA TEAM NEWS – Newcastle v Chelsea (1500 GMT)

Demba Ba and John Terry start with Fernando Torres on the bench.

  • 23 Tommyy // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:17 PM

Wingspan – with all due respect, Perch played against a weak Villa side and looked decent.
We are playing a side today who will give us more space and Anita is perfect for that.
We will never ever be a top team if we choose to play players such as Perch out of position ahead of a dutch international.

  • 24 MrMojoRisin76 // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:17 PM

Cisse is going to destroy them, again.

  • 25 Hatem's better than Messi // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:18 PM

He’s picking sides to keep clean sheets not to win games.
Heaven forbid we play entertaining football.
Lets keep Anita and Marv on the bench.
    Madness.

  • 26 Rotonda heights // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:18 PM

Really hope we win and can survive the season, but after that how can we seriously go on with a manager who keeps making such bizarre decisions and who regularly says he’s a winner despite not having actually won anything!

With the talent we’ve got now, an ambitious, attacking and ”footballing” manager could do wonders.

  • 27 Tommyy // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:19 PM

Rotonda, when you say it like that it’s inexcusable. Both Anita and Marv have been our best players recently. It riles me up it really does.

  • 28 Sinner // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:19 PM

Anita and Marveaux who have been our top players this season gets benched for players like f**king Jonas who has been useless and utillity player like Perch, yes I see the logic in that! Pardew you mong!

  • 30 Mat Thai NUFC // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:19 PM

Guys Jonas was always gonna play against chelsea simply because of his workrate which will be vital when tracking the likes of mata! also perch over anita i agree with for the same reasons and mentioned before, anita is a little bit lightweight. I feel next season he will have a bigger impact and this season will have been great experience for him

  • 31 MrMojoRisin76 // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:20 PM

    3-0 Newcastle.Perch,Jonas,Demba Ba(OG)

  • 32 papattack // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:20 PM

    wingspan

totally agree perch deserves his spot, hes been doing well recently. his tacklings really improved.

gutierrez though…. pards favourite i suppose. at least he will track back, marv is a bit lazy but i still would prefer him in the team for his creativity and attacking abilities.

  • 33 Alan Pas-de-clue // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:20 PM

  • 34 toon1707 // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:20 PM

Tommy I agree against villa I said perch to start was fine give Anita a rest but he should be starting now perch as decent as he has become should not be starting ahead of Anita no other manager would even contemplate it let alone do it still got to get behind team and manager and try to get another win today. Wish Ba was on the bench he is bound to score today

  • 35 wingspan // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:21 PM

    Demba Starts

  • 36 Tommyy // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:21 PM

I can see why Jonas is playing, but heaven forbid we go out and play our own game at home rather than set up to thwart other teams. It pisses me off. I’m angry. We have a great first 11 ready to play and 2 of them aren’t!

  • 37 Spreadthetoon // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:21 PM

    Belgrade
I don’t disagree but whats the point in writing us off or AP before a ball has even been kicked? MA has backed the mgr and while he is not my choice he is our mgr. Lets get behind the team, no point whinging and complaining about things are outside our control. I can only hope for a spirited performance and the inclusion of Marveaux at some point during the match. He may be still struggling to get back from injury. Lets try to keep some positivity, it would be far too painful to consider anything less than a draw or a win today. HWTL!

  • 38 t00ntime // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:21 PM

2 things like to happen against us.
    1) our former player scores (ba)
    2) a player who hasnt scored for ages, breaks his bad run and scores against us (torres)

Hopefully neither happen and we win the game. I like the team selection (other than jonas) but i trust pardew knows what he is doing. If we lose the game cause of jonas i think fans will flip their lid cause he shouldnt even be playing.
(marv most assists this season for us… Says enough)

  • 39 JAMSHA // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:22 PM

PARDEW OUTTTTTTTTTTTT….. MARVO ON BENCH DAMMMMMMMMMM

  • 40 Grindilow // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:22 PM

I do feel sorry for Anita at times, but Perch has to be given credit. His strength and height are added bonuses.

Guti is always going to start under Pards if he’s fit, surely nearly everyone has realised that now! Hopefully Marveaux will come on later on if we are still in the game.

  • 41 Tommyy // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:22 PM

Toon1707 – That’s exactly the issue – no other manager would do that at home with the options we’ve now got. It’s negative and it stinks.

  • 42 papattack // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:22 PM

    chelseas bench looks pretty weak…

Turnbull, Ferreira, Azpili, Ake, Benayoun, Marin, Torres.

  • 43 Mat Thai NUFC // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:22 PM

I think that marveaux is a great option from the bench also, sometimes its better to have someone who can come on and change a game. imagine him playing and jonas coming on with us 1-0 down.. everyone would be fuming! at least jonas starting means we start with a solid team and have the option to change it up

  • 44 JP...from The Rock // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:22 PM

I would have liked to see Marveaux instead of Gutierrez who has been nothing short of woeful all season. Maybe Marveaux is still not 100% with his recovery and Pardew is making sure he is fit for the rest of the season, hence him being on the bench.

I can see our players up for this one, especially the new lads.

    2-1 Newcastle COME ON!! :D

  • 47 thai-mag // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:24 PM

cant believe pardews team, strong bench but we haven’t come from behind to win since he took over, which is surely going to happen with this team selection, if he brings strolla on for the last 20 minutes I’ll go ballistic

  • 48 JP...from The Rock // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:25 PM

TBF Perch has been solid this season and played well against Villa. Anita and Marveaux to come off the bench to shake up Chelsea ain’t such a bad idea.

  • 49 Alan Pas-de-clue // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:26 PM

sometimes though i guess players are better from the bench, marv obertan anita could all inject energy if we are losing…imagine bringing on perch guti when we are 1-0 down like mat thai said.

  • 50 Twatter // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:26 PM

Shouldn’t be playing Jonas at home, it’s as simple as that really.

  • 51 Dukis22lt // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:26 PM

I just dont understand why Pardew keeps playing the Jonas card surely he is the manager and knows his team best but cmon! Jonas really? I hope he proves me wrong.

Our new signings will be buzzing with the Toon shouting em on! Toon Toon!

  • 53 wingspan // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:28 PM

Papa. Yeah im glad someone else on here isnt just picking the team on names alone. Perchy defo deserves his place, most improved player at the club by far.

I agree mate he tracks bk but he seems to get caught in no mans land quite a lot, the area between attacking and defending which makes him pretty ineffective. It was his first touch that i found really bad at the villa game, that for me is one of the main difference betweent the prem and lower levels.

I think hes had his chance to play through the slump in form now, he needs to be dropped to give him a kick up the arse.

Still feel good about today tho, and we have players that can come on and effect the game which is nice!

2-1 Sissoko and cisse for us, Demba for them (unfortunateley)

    Amyway i think

  • 54 Sinner // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:28 PM

If i was Anita or Marveaux, i would want to leave this club as soon as possible as nothing you do would warrant you a place!

  • 55 Spreadthetoon // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:29 PM

Remy seems injured all the time so kinda glad we missed out on him in retrospect.

  • 56 No Plain Saylor // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:29 PM

Anita should be starting, he has been our most consistent player this season. And Jonas has been our worst, so marveaux should be playing too. Just hope we play nice football, get the ball down, and attack em. Seems doubtful for some reason..

  • 57 yorkshire_magpie // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:30 PM

Bad team selection yet again from pardew. Marveaux should be in for guitirrez and anita for perch. Perch will stuggle against mata. But we shall see.

  • 58 Toonfan8 // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:30 PM

Jonas is not good enough for starting line up…his passing is poor, he is slow, cant cross, cant shoot, WTF is he doing as a winger? Pardew what is this???

  • 59 Williamsonsuks // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:31 PM

Put £10 on Newcastle to win 3-2 cabaye to score first, 250/1. Ambitious but can see it being a high scoring game HWTL

  • 60 Ketsbaia9 // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:31 PM

Pardew must be porking Jonas and Perch. Think he’s being too hard on Marveaux. Marveaux is a wasted talent. Anita is a better ball player than Perch.

  • 61 Twatter // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:31 PM

Any of you living near or around where Pardew lives, give him a good talking to about Jonas after the game, will you? Send the regards of nufcblog.com. Pardew always talks about bumping into the fans, so there’s got to be one of us who’ll see him soon and can pass on the messages of discontent about his insistence on starting Jonas every week.

  • 62 Tommyy // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:32 PM

    Kets – controversial but agreed.

  • 63 Williamsonsuks // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:33 PM

I can’t fault Perch, he does what it asked of him, hard tackler gets back to help defence and passing isn’t to bad. Jonas works hard but needs a few games rest.

  • 64 Joe Blog // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:33 PM

I don’t want to dislike Jonas, but Pardew’s insistence on making him go out and turn in another inalienable abject performance, indicative of mental and physical fatigue, through no fault of his own, is making him begin to grate on me.

  • 65 Unbelievable Tekkers // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:35 PM

Not sure why everyone is complaining about Jonas I think its been fairly obvious for a while now that if fit Jonas is starting every game regardless of form or how he plays…as much as I disagree with it we all need to accept it.

  • 66 papattack // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:36 PM

    wingspan

i think overall its a decent team with a decent bench. i dont know why people are so pissed at the selection.

your best attacking players dont guarantee wins. i think its best to start solid and have options to bring on, they are champions of europe to be fair.

  • 70 AmericanGeordie // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:37 PM

AP appreciates Jonas for his heart, his high motor and his battling spirit.

We, the Toon Army, are disappointed by what he brings (or lacks) in the final third.

Frankly, I’d like to see Jonas utilized as a holding midfielder in the 4-2-3-1.

We needed Pardew to pick Marv and Anita today. Chelsea don’t mark players in midfield, those 2 would have utilised their skills like they did against Citeh. Certainly more than Jonas and Perch can offer.

  • 72 Sinner // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:38 PM

I would rather play Sammy ahead of Jonas, atleast him he provides us a little bit of threat going forward!

Other than Marv for Jonas it’s a good starting XI.

So are we saying we should sack Pardew simply because he picks Jonas? Get a grip! Also the man is an absolute workhorse, and while that is no longer enough it should still be greatly appreciated and I think Santon will be in serious need of babysitting given the strength that Chelsea possess going forward.

Do we really want Santon exposed against Chelsea’s immense attacking options without cover? I personally don’t and either way I don’t care who is picked I’ll get behind my team and manager regardless.

Ah I’m talking to myself again aren’t I?

The Job of the player playing deffensive midfielder is to tackle regain posession then give it to Cabaye or sissoko who then in turn start the team attacking again.

Are you all telling me you would rather Anita than perch doing that job??

Theres no argument that Anita is a better distributor of the ball (tho he has given it away a hell of a lot this season) but as a ball winner theres only one winner. Perchy wud get the nod for me too Pards

He plays Jonas because he tracks back. Santon likes to get forward, and overlaps Jonas. It simple tactical sense. We need to protect the wings as much as possible, as Chelsea have plenty of quality down the right(and the left and centre). Marveaux and Sameobi offer nothing defensively.

  • 100 JP...from The Rock // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:50 PM

The only thing I am not pleased about is Gutierrez instead of Marveaux. I just feel Gutierrez’s lack of passing ability will cost us again.

    JP

Marv’s lack of tracking back could also cost us. Which is the lesser of two evils?

  • 104 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:52 PM

Playing Marveaux and Santon LW and when they are caught up front, Colo will have to cover and we will be raped defensively.

  • 105 Ketsbaia9 // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:52 PM

Pardew is in a relationship with Gutierrez. it’s obvious. He hugged him after the Villa game for playing poor.

  • 107 Riska // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:53 PM

I understand why Alan plays Jonas, I can imagine that he does a lot for team spirit and while they aren’t always evident, he does have fairly good defensive skills.

However, I don’t think Alan is prepared to drop Jonas for his form because of his years of service to the club, and that is a mistake. In footballing terms, there is nothing that Jonas can do that Anita can’t do better, other than win free kicks.

I know Marv needs to be in the team, but for me Anita is even more key.

  • 108 JAMSHA // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:54 PM

    COME ON LADS……. PLAY WELL…..AMEN ….

  • 109 Sir Braveheart // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:55 PM

That team had a cracking first half at Villa. Now we have a fit again Marv and Anita to come on 2nd half to shore things up.

Jonas for Marv on 65 mins, Anita for Sissoko 70 mins, Shola for Gouffran 75 mins.

  • 110 toonarmydownsouth // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:55 PM

Cant believe mbiwa is on the bench again!!
Ba knows taylor and colo indide out ffs be a bit inventive pardew! You said you needed these lads to turn the season around they cant do that from the bench

  • 111 NUFC_LEAZES END // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:55 PM

when I click on the links I can here the build up to the game but cant see it, because it either has download or play in front of the screen, is this meant to happen?

  • 112 toonicle // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:55 PM

Perch for Anita I understand, don’t really agree but I can see why youd make that choice but Guti again? Marv has been playing great andGuti has no business being out there. He’ll once again fall over more times than he completes a pass.

  • 113 Twatter // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:56 PM

    Ruddy

Marveaux is the lesser of two evils. How can you even compare? I was at the Villa game, Jonas can track back all he wants but he is relatively ineffective in defence. It’s simply a misnomer to say he’s been useful this season, in attack or defence.

  • 114 fray bentos // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:57 PM

Find the comments about Pardew not winning anything totally stupid, 95% of managers haven’t won anything and most of the ones that do are managing the best 3/4 clubs in the league

    Have a word with yourself

Dissapointed Jonas is starting, my only thought is that he is playing mint in training and Pardew is trying to play him into form or maybe he’s just being negative, either way would have been nice to see Marveaux start

Lets hope we don’t go for the draw or something, Pardew should be attacking them

Now goodbye, i willl now leave the blog to the idiots who post on here rather than watching match

  • 115 achtoon // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:57 PM

notice that none of the newcastle plays are talking to Ba in the tunnel

  • 116 TurkishFan101 // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:57 PM

@MUTINYbyLEMONS You are clueless. What did Jonas do? people that say he had a goal clearance which Krul would of gotten to and the corner would not have happened in the first place if Jonas was subbed off earlier. We would of bagged more then 4 goals if Jonas was not playing last game. He doesn’t add nothing to our team, Marvo has gotten more assists then Jonas has in his all career this season. We dont need perch to be on, we paid £6million for quality player in Anita in every aspect his better then Perch. Why are we still stuck with Pardew? Last game in my opinion we got a very lucky win.

  • 117 PontiusLee // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:57 PM

but guys… jonas isnt on the left, hes on the right…
so everyone saying that he can track back for santon, thats clearly not happening…
and when ben arfa comes back are we really going to start jonas over benny?
    dont see that happening.

  • 118 toonicle // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:58 PM

The DM should be responsible for covering Santon when he goes forward, that’ll be the job of Perch today. Why everyone thinks Jonas should play on the wing so he can cover LB seems silly, why waste a winger like that?

  • 119 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:59 PM

So CHelsea conceding goals in last 20 minutes. Good idea to play Jonas and Perch until then and then bring on Marveaux and/or Obertan and ONSLAUGHT

  • 120 achtoon // Feb 2, 2013 at 2:59 PM

the fact is we lose less when jonas is in the team. same with Tiote.

  • 121 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Feb 2, 2013 at 3:01 PM

When has Jonas ever been on the right!? If you think he plays on the right then you have clearly never watched any of our games.

Also saying that Jonas does nothing defensively is one of the most absurd things I have ever heard.

  • 122 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Feb 2, 2013 at 3:03 PM

    Cisse looking sharp

  • 124 Joe Blog // Feb 2, 2013 at 3:07 PM

Jonas’ engine is even spluttering this season, isn’t covering anything like the ground he did in previous seasons and he’s often knackered when receiving the ball, leading to errors and sloppy touches and ultimately concession of possession – no wonder he has to run around a lot, when he’s often only attempting to undo his own mess. The Jonas workhorse argument doesn’t wash anymore. The man’s bereft, physically and mentally fatigued and I think he knows it too, he looked very frustrated with himself against Villa, because he knows deep down he needs a prolonged rest, but he’ll carry on dutifully if he’s picked. Just hope it doesn’t end in a red-mist, rash tackle, today or in the near future. Imagine the crowds discontent if his showing had been at St James’ on Tuesday. Not conducive to a bouncing atmosphere.

    Anyway, here we go!

  • 125 toonicle // Feb 2, 2013 at 3:07 PM

Jonas having a stormer and Cabaye is Cabaye:class through and through, As usual we get jittery towards the end of the half. We will need another goal if we are to take three points from this one. Im a bit nervous about Perchino;s yellow card.

I’m concerned about Perch being on that booking.

Stupid booking to get, he’s already flown into a few challenges. Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him red carded in the second half :|

We’ve played very very well though – exactly like we all hoped we would with some fresh faces and a bit of confidence.

But bloody hell do we play better with a bit of height in that midfield – Sissoko has given us that which we desperately needed.

Fair play to Ba took a hell of a hit from Colo and tried to carry on, clearly broken nose and possible black eye judging by the swelling…ouch

Oh and gan on Jonas u little gem (confidence boost and a reinvigorated Jonas? Bloody hope so) Gouffran is looking full of tricks and working for the team (relieving pressure on Santon beautifully) and Sissoko…what a player Sissoko is :D and on top of all of that Cabs is sparkling. Only bad point is Perch’s over confidence reminding me of a out of form not as good Tiote atm but hey ho

Half the job done boys lets see a full 90+minute performance from u

and freaking howard webb, that was a ridiculous yellow card, but i do hope anita comes in for perch when the time is right, perch helps because of his height, but chelsea arent playing a crossing game. anita would be a perfect sub for us.

This midfield playing looks bloody delightful, and to be honest i think perch is his only option over anita. Anita, as of his height (or the lack of) and minimal physical presence can’t give us that real steel in the midfield we need what with sissoko and cabaye very attack-minded. I reckon an in form tiote to replace perch in this line up gives us one of the best midfields in the comp!

The other half of you are giving out about him? He’s just scored. He’s plaing better than average but i can see him trailing off now and being out of it by the 60th minute no fitness. Thing is Pards loves him and will play him for the full 90, Guitterez should come off on 60 for marveaux. try and catch chelsea on the counter. • 569 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:03 PM

Lads that result, simply put, is the best team performance I have witnessed from a Newcastle United team under Pardew. Yes we have played some excellent football last season and won some excellent games but this is a team that has been out of form, took the lead and saw it harshly taken from them with 2 great goals, but instead of capitulating, up stepped Sissoko, Goofy, Cabaye, Colo and yes even Jonas! and together they turned it around.

I am so proud of our boys. I am so proud of the fans at the ground who made the place so special and, as I always am, but right now I am so unbelievably proud to be a Newcastle United fan :D

  • 572 Marty-Toon // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:03 PM

    That’s an amazing 3 points :-) :-)
At 1-2 it didn’t look like that’d happen but no one told Sissoko that
Cabaye was excellent as was Percherinho
Gutierrez was poor with his crossing as usual but worked hard, got a top goal and defended really well.
Good change with Marveau and Gouffran,Marveau settled us on the ball with his touch and fresh legs.
Tayls and Collo were brilliant also
Cisse held the ball well but should’ve scored 1 maybe 2 as they were easy chances for a top striker

dont forget Santon, who has make 2 assist today

the only negative point in the squad is Cissé imo. I think when benny backs, we have to play with Gouffran upront, and marveaux on left , and hba on right, sissoko in n10, and cabaye and tioté (or anita) behind

and did you see sissoko leaving ashley cole for dead ? maybe THE fastest leftback in the prem WHOOHOO.

cisse should have scored 2 and did give some balls away so he would be my 1 of 2 negatives the other being krull’s hoof forward even though the team worked hard to make those hoof’s look good.

3 goals from midfield who cares if cisse misses easy chances with our midfielders….WHOOHOO

Jonas with a rare goal, his first headed goal for us I believe.

SISSOKO getting a brace on his home debut… and that only sums up about %50 of his total contribution. Two splendid runs, he could have had more.

Saylor putting his manhood on the line to block Lampards rocket. I almost howled in pain myself…

Santon, Two assists. Amazing performance from him.

Christ, we’ve signed some tremendous players. Exciting to watch today and that’s how it should be. We didn’t make any defensive errors. Chelsea just scored 2 good goals. Moussa Sissoko could’ve had 4 goals today. I think it’s fair to say that he must play as an attacking midfielder. Just what we needed.

  • 622 ilovetoon8788 // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:12 PM

Santon. Absolutely world class going forward. A greater attacking threat than Debuchy. World class performance. If he can shore up his defensive aspect of the game, he’s going to be 1 of the best full backs in the world. What a gem we got here.

Sissoko. 2 lung bursting runs 1 that resulted in the goal via Gouffran. He’s on a 1 man mission to spark our revival. If any player need a kick up the rear, just make them watch the run from Sisokko. That’s truly a powerful run. He has an engine that never stops. We look a completely different outfit already with him in the team.

And boy what a strike that was for the winner. Man of the moment. Moussa Sisokko. Probably the best central midfielder in the league at the moment.

  • 623 toonking // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:12 PM

a good use for HBA could be to use him in the europa league games with marvo anita tiote and bigi or maybe use goufran for them

  • 624 NUFCarter // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:12 PM

Every premier league team must be bricking it and well peed off that we got sissoko. He can tell everyone now he’s at the same level as yaya toure already. Class act

Taylor took one for the team at the end. He’s an absolute beast. Gouffran was brilliant his pace and shot set up sissoko. Still don’t rate Gutierrez but that must of been his best game of the season as is the game. Two Chelsea goals were unstoppable and that’s when I was dreading that we play our traditional shite second half but they woke up after the goals and played class again.

Disappointed in cisse, had some real good chances but I still believe in him. Can’t wait for HBA to replace guti and we are gonna be a real team to face. Marveaux was class when he came on. Made an instant impact. The consistent santon perch colo and cabaye really topped it off also debuchy is definitely improving so much better than Simpson

Oh and does anyone one remember a lad called Williamson.

Fans were top class at st James’ today. Looking forward to the spurs game. HWTL!

Shall we just play Santon LM? 2 class assists today

  • 626 Eddie // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:12 PM

Love it. Just love it. Mo Sissoko just put the mo back into our mojo. And a warm hand for Saylor’s nuts.

definitely frankfurt, made a massive difference allowing others to find space

    an unsung hero

  • 628 Ketsbaia9 // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:13 PM

That’s right, Gouffran was impressive. Gutierrez did ok today as did Perch but they’ll eventually be replaced by Anita and Marveaux. Ben Arfa will come in for Gouffran.

If I think too much about the performance, the result, the team spirit, the price we’ve paid for these new players, getting one over on the oil baron and the outlook for the rest of the season, I think I’ll explode!

  • 630 toonking // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:16 PM

as much as it’s good to say how good sissokko is i am waiting until the middle of next season before i decide how good he is.
this time last year we tough cisse was a new shearer but now he looks like a standard player

  • 631 Ketsbaia9 // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:17 PM

It was that good, I was nearly crying when Sissoko scored.

  • 632 croftus5678 // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:17 PM

goofy and sissoko need to be in the dreamteam :-)
no longer will i worry that we do not have anyone who can score goals with sissoko/marv/cabaye/goofy and even santon.

  • 633 toonicle // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:17 PM

Now just imagine adding HBA on the right wing of that team. Pure class.

  • 634 LEROI // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:17 PM

gouffran was great really worked hard but sissoko stole the show

  • 635 Ketsbaia9 // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:17 PM

Cisse played well today and looked pacey.

  • 636 LEROI // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:18 PM

it’s my birthday and i blew candles out and wished for us to beat chelsea no b.s!

  • 637 shanghai fan // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:19 PM

He’s French, he scores, now Ashley’s on the floor, SISSOKO …. SISSOKO!!

  • 638 Ben_BKK // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:20 PM

Can’t really think of anyone that had a poor match, apart from maybe Cisse who should’ve had a goal or two again. Sissoko was incredible, Cabaye classy as always, Santon possibly his best game in black and white with two top assists, Perchy was solid and put in some good tackles, Taylor put himself on the line as usual, Colo composed in defence.

I’m buzzing here lads, still can’t quite believe we won that :D

  • 639 northernirishtoon // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:20 PM

Hba to replace guti from today’s team and I tiote to replace perch.

I think that is our strongest team

  • 640 Toon_Jock // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:23 PM

H-A-Goufffffran & Sissssssoko new toon legends!!
    Colo broke Ba’s face
we beat Chelski at home 3-2

  • 641 francesco-hba // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:24 PM

i think that we can compete for the champions league place next season, with this team which is much much stronger than 2 months

ben arfa, cabaye, sissoko, tioté, gouffran, marveaux, etc… are a threaten for the other squads, and we have a strong bench now.

    Feeling good right now

  • 642 Pardew_out // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:26 PM

    Sissoko is a BEARST!!!!!
Marveauvx should have more play time

  • 643 cockneymagpie90 // Feb 2, 2013 at 5:27 PM

    Gotta be 433

    DEBUCHY-SAYLOR-COLO-SANTON
    ——————–TIOTE——————–
    ———-CABAYE——–SISSOKO———
    BENARFA——–CISSE——-GOUFFRAN

Then uv got Mbiwa who can do a job across the back. Anita to replace any in the midfield and Marveaux as an attacking option.

What a team we have once Benny boy and Tiote are back!

Heres to exciting times ahead and weldone to the MOTM Sissoko!

    HWTL!!!!!

Been a while since I enjoyed 2 games like this. Hope this really is the turning of the proverbial corner. I cant help thinking we are still a few shy of the magic 40 so I dont get carried away just yet.
