Newcastle have nobody to blame but themselves after coming away from White Hart Lane this afternoon losing by two goals they conceded to Gareth Bale, and the first goal by Yoan Gouffran, who was then stretchered off in the second half, but both Spurs goals were preventable, and it was some sloppy defending (again) from the Newcastle defense.
Gareth Bale – after scoring direct from a free kick after five minutes
Make no mistake about it Newcastle should have taken something out of this game, but when you continue to give away sloppy goals you continue to lose games – and that’s the 11th game of the last 16 in the league that the Magpies have managed to lose.
Newcastle started this game slowly in their burgundy strips, and the first 10 minutes was a bit reminiscent of last years game, with Tottenham attacking continuously, and after the first minute Bale was straight through down the left wing, and he put in a low cross which went right across the goal and was scrambled away by Newcastle.
And then Bale, who Newcastle knew was going to be the danger man, put Tottenham ahead after only five minutes when he scored directly from a free kick, but the Newcastle wall was hardly tight and Tim Krul should have also done better as the ball beat him low down to his left.
But Alan Pardew will have some words to say to the Newcastle players in the wall, because they gave Gareth a free shot on goals – which of course is suicidal.
And after the first ten minutes when it looked like Tottenham could tear Newcastle apart as the continually caught the visitors short at the back, but the Magpies came back into the game and started to play some nice football
On 20 minutes a wonderful ball into the box by Coloccini found Cisse free and onside, but his header was wide of the target, and the Senegal striker really should have done better.
But then just 4 minutes later Newcastle scored, and it a well worked goal as Gutierrez put Sissoko away down the right wing and the Frenchman crossed it nicely to Gouffran, who hit the ball towards goal and it was deflected to leave Lloris helpless, and if was Yoan Gouffran’s first goal for Newcastle.
Half time came and Newcastle would have been the happier side, after Spurs had missed some chances and Newcastle were still in this game after surviving some early scares.
Ten minutes into the second half Gouffran was injured, and it seems that the Frenchman sustained a nasty gash to his calf, and after some delay in the game, he was stretched off, which was not a good sight to see again this season.
Up until that point Gouffran had looked very bright for Newcastle and gave some movement to the Newcastle attack up front.
Sylvain Marveaux came on in his place and the change seemed to slow the Newcastle’s momentum, although it was still fairly even between the two sides, but then after 78 minutes Gareth Bale beat Coloccini and two other Newcastle players to a ball just inside Newcastle’s half.
Bale then raced away from he Newcastle players and as Krul cam out he kicked the ball into the back of the net and Spurs were 2-1 up, and it was a vital time to score for the home side.
But again it was some lackadaisical defending from Newcastle, and we may see Yanga-Mbiwa force his way into the back four if we cannot tighten things up at the back – as we continue to leak poor goals at the back.
Bale almost got his hat-trick after 86 minutes when he was through again, but Tim Krul made a great save to put the ball over the cross-bar.
Newcastle tried to get back into this game and after the third minute of injury time Shola Ameobi was through on goal, and tried to toe poke the ball into the goal, but French goalkeeper Lloris made a vital block.
And then seven minutes into injury time Gareth Bale had an open goal six yards out – but blazed the ball way over the bar – with his right foot – and then a minute later he hit a great left foot shot that brought a great save from Tim Krul low down to his left.
And after around nine minutes of added the whistle finally blew and the new Newcastle side had suffered their first defeat – but it was two defensive lapses that cost Newcastle points this afternoon – and when have we heard that before?
Newcastle played well today, but two lapses was all it took – and we have to hope Gouffran is not seriously injured.

No probs mate.
On Colo, he put in great performances against villa and Chelsea and was a little unlucky today against a world class player. I understand the captaincy thing but I doubt it’s good to change part way through a season. It will be cabaye next year I think or saylor.
He’s still a top top player though.

Sissoko scored two whilst playing deep on pards command. I’d call that a good tactical move then (not that I agree that’s what happened.
You don’t like pards and you’ll use any excuse to blame him.
Simples.

It was pretty simply we were losing the inative in the centre of the park
And thebtime was right on about 70 mins to add fresh legs tiotie and Anita or pull Sissoko back and stop spurs initiative lots of options
Instead turnip Puts marveux on and gave the initiative to their central group
Easy really but what do I. Know

Comment #95I saw the game. You have to stop with Collo, He is class. The goal is Debuchy’s fault….
Spurs were not better than us. One player made ??the difference for them: Bale. If Ben Arfa was on the ground it would be a different story, trust me.
Sissoko was not good. Maybe he was tired (He played with french team).
Jonas is old and he should no longer play for us. He is not good. Anyway, I am optimistic.
The only thing worries me is Gouffran’s injury. Hope he is ok 🙁

Yeah cisse’s run for the goal (when he drew two defender away from Goofy) was really bad and he got a header away which wasn’t far off. Not saying he’s playing well, but he;s still getting chances that’s what counts, he’ll stick one away soon.

I think he’s a top class player on his day but he needs to be focused to have his day which I really don’t think he is this season he’s still good but a bit on time on the bench and the order to sort his s**t out wouldn’t go amiss for me
Cabs will be captain next year (hopefully regardless of the Colo situation) Saylor is too unreliable imo too many injuries to be counted on

Yes I am clearly stupid. I bow to your knowledge that the player took over against chelsea, nowt to do with pards. But when players fail it;s all pards fault.
Now, do you see the flawed logic there or are you not familiar with logic?

Comment #103I think that was a point lost today. Not much of an attacking threat -bit of a “powder puff” attack. We do need another striker. At times we were overrun in midfield. Prior to our goal we were looking good. Walker had several “goes” at Gouffran before he got him -red card definitely -up to then Gouffran was playing OK. Phil Dowd is a crap ref. Defensive errors for both spurs goals. But at least thats Spurs out the way. May struggle if Gouffran is out for some time. not too despondent though .

Comment #108I think a bit of context is needed.
Spurs away is a difficult away match for anyone.
Spurs hadn’t lost in 9 games prior to this game.
We were more than competent for 75 minutes.
Crucially for me we have progressed since Reading @ home.

true mate it does tell the story, goofy got brought down 3 or 4 times by the same player so in the regulation football rule it’s classified as an persistent foul and should of been a yellow card
also i notice in the half time analysis Spurs had 1 foul we had 4, i’d love to slap the gits who analyze this.

Like most Pardew haters, you flip flop with your demands of him.
So you wanted Sissoko further back to defend against Tottenham at their home ground? You know Sissoko tracks back already right? THAT would have given Spurs all the chances they needed.
Perch was excellent, and was subbed because he picked up a knock. Tiote did fine to hold possession under pressure once he came on.
Marv was also subbed due to Gouffran’s INJURY. And how is putting another attacking player on giving the other team “initative” in midfield? Marveaux has been one of our best players on the ball for the last 2 months.

Logic is an over rated commodity in my experience
Particularly when dealing with the emotions of a football game at a charged sjp
The players all said how the crowd carried them on
Believe what you want
Pardew had not a thing to do with last weeks recovery which was great and worth my season ticket money alone
We will never get better than average with turnip as manager even with this group of players ,probably the best for ten years
Logic is very over rated and exceedingly boring
