In the piece in the Journal today, the article mentions a couple of players we are interested in bringing to the club this summer, and they are new names, and since Derek LLambias was being interviewed – maybe the names came directly from the Managing Director.
Georginio Wijnaldum – PSV attacking midfielder
The two players Newcastle are interested in are said to be PSV play-maker Georginio Wijnaldum, the 22-year-old PSV player, who recently broke into the full Holland senior squad.
The other one is Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, the 21 year-old France U21 center-back who currently plays for Valenciennes.
Both of these look to be excellent up-and-coming players, and would be good acquisitions for Newcastle, depending of course on how much we would have to pay to get them to Tyneside this summer.
Wijnaldum started his career at Feyenoord and made his debut in April, 2007 in the Eredivisie, and he played in the home match against FC Groningen at the very young age of 16 years and 148 days.
Georginio played for Feyenoord until the summer of 2011 when at age 20, he was transferred to PSV for €5M (£4.3M) and at Feyenoord he has played 134 times with 25 goals and 11 assists.
And he has an excellent record at PSV, having played 81 times with 32 goals and 14 assists. So at just 22 he has already played 215 times with 57 goals and 25 assists – not too bad a record at all.
Newcastle were first interested in this lad about a year ago – and here is an article we wrote then about the player – who we called a whiz kid.
Nicolas Isimat-Mirin is shown above and plays as a central defender, and is a former graduate of the Clairefontaine Academy, and he stands 6’2″ tall and played for Valenciennes – although when he left the Academy he joined Rennes and spent two seasons at the club before transferring to his current club in 2008.
From what we can find out, he has played 66 times for Valenciennes and he is right footed and there was news in January that Newcastle scouts were watching a lot of Valenciennes games, although the news was we were interested in 24 year-old Cameroon International left back Gaeten Bong.
Both of these players look excellent players of the future, but we wonder just how much they would need to pay to get them on Tyneside?
What do you think?
We ran this heart wrenching story yesterday on Eve Miller – please help the 10 year-old if you possibly can – many thanks.
