Newcastle Absoutely Gutted After Draw – Steven Taylor

11:05 pm, Thursday, February 14th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 49 Comments

Steven Taylor was interviewed on Sky Sports tonight after the 0-0 draw with Metalist Kharkiv, and two good goals by Papiss Cisse were disallowed by the officials – and Steven has said the players are absolutely gutted after the draw.

Steven Taylor – Newcastle are absolutely gutted

This is what an emotional Steven Taylor said immediately after the game:

“We’re absolutely gutted,” Taylor said after the goalless draw.” “The gaffer has just made the point to us that we should be 2-0 ahead. We had those two goals chalked off; we’re disappointed with that.”

“It was one of our best performances in a while. Everything the gaffer asked of us we did, we just didn’t win.” “Tonight showed we have goals in us,” he said. “We can go there with more confidence than them. We will hope to pose them more problems.”

There were some good things to take away from the game, including another good display by Moussa Sissoko and a very solid first start for Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa at right back.

Yohan Cabaye is still hopeful of getting through and of course a score draw would see Newcastle qualify for the next round when we play the away leg next Thursday night.

This is what Yohan had to say:

“It was a tough game. The important things is we haven’t conceded a goal.” “If we are doing the right thing away from home, we score, then they have to score two.”

“That’s the main thing from tonight.”

It was certainly a disappointing result tonight – but a good performance against Metalist Kharkiv – who looked a very well organized side on tonight’s showing.

Disgrace from the linesman, sh*te decisions likethat cost ties, I wasn’t so enthused with the performance as Pardew was, however I suppose there was a few positives, such as Sissoko , Mbwia and Marveux

  • 2 Nufcjoss // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:11 PM

Not a great day to be a norwegian nufs-fan.. No words, robbed by the referee.. we were good thoug!!

  • 3 manxpie // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:11 PM

wow so now pardews a racist!!!!
jesus christ some of you’s really need to get a grip!
we played well against a team that most of you underestermated we could have scored 5 at least tonight!!
and we should have had 2 no arguments!!
but hey i’ll let you’s bash the players and manager and tea lady!
i used to post quite alot but now its a joke and no wonder match days get all the usuals!!
still can’t believe the racist post tho!!! disgrace!!!

  • 4 santonthenewmaldini // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:11 PM

To be honest if we were not so negative in the 1st half we could have been out of sight as we were a lot faster than they were

Jonas and Tiote were shocking again how many times did they lose the ball?!?

    What must Anita be thinking?!?

  • 5 Toon1978 // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:12 PM

Football is rigged! Tonight seems to point in that direction.

  • 6 nick_9 // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:15 PM

Manx chill – one person who is clearly mental describes Pardew as racist and your saying “some of yous” chill man, it’s one numpty who needs sectioning.

Stevie Taylor – it was far from one of our best performances for a while, I thought it was poor and very frustrating but we did so enough to win. One clear goal ruled out and I don’t care what anyone says but the speed cisse was going at i bet they could rewind that a 1/10 of a frame and make it Iook like he was onside, it was such a fine line and so much with advantage to the attacker. Hope we don’t live to regret these poor decisions

  • 7 manxpie // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:17 PM

and JACK BUTLER who would you have played instead of guti and ober seen as you were so annoyed with pardew playing players out of position!??
marveaux’s only position is the number 10 role and that has been very evident in the time he’s been here and anita isn’t and never has been a winger so who was your replacements for them then!?
but i did like your your pistorius rhyme 🙂

Jonas has been a decent Newcastle United player for several seasons, and he works his socks off , but surely enough is enough, his ability to pass and cross is non existent. I just don’t rate him at all anymore , Pardew must start Marveux and forget about the “defensive” capabilities that Jonas has , as his attacking failures disturbs the whole flow of the team

  • 9 Big Pappa Cissé // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:22 PM

    @ james

every man and his dog can see that but somehow Pardew can’t.

  • 10 jamesnufc86 // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:26 PM

yes well some men’s dogs on here must be guide ones, as some people still think he provides more than he gives

  • 11 ronjohno // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:28 PM

I have just got back from the match.
In reply to who should have played instead og Jonas and Obertan .
The stock answer would be ANYBODY.
I cannot understand the Jonas supporters and as for Obertan ………

  • 12 yo-yo // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:28 PM

Guti wasn’t that bad tonight apart from his awful final delivery (or not). He does cover Santon coming forward too.
Still, I would have subbed him for Marv not Oba.

  • 13 Big Pappa Cissé // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:31 PM

    Pardews philosophy :

Play well (Anita) and get dropped from the team like a bad smell

Play badly (Gutierrez) and be guaranteed a starting place every week.

I would love to ask Alan his reasoning behind dropping Vurnon who was the best player nearly every week in our dismal form last year.

  • 14 jamesnufc86 // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:32 PM

Yo Yo , time to forget about the “cover” Jonas gives , Santon is a big boy now and should be able to protect his own area , the fact is Jonas is ruining the harmony of attacking football we have been playing is more of a concern , especially at home against a side 4th in the Ukrainian League

  • 15 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:36 PM

Got to find a place for Marvo
Changed the game when he came on caused them problems with his running with the ball and movement

Two even teams – piss poor ref and linesman EUFA should check if they have had a bung and what the hell does the extra officials on the goal line do

  • 16 89Norcal // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:37 PM

    yo yo
I suppose that’s true but only when compared to Jonas’ usual low standards

    Big Pappa Cisse
The only explanation is that Pardew doesn’t see Anita as a replacement or substitute for Jonas. I’m not one to dispute that, since there’s no guarantee Anita would do better in THAT position.

But what Pardew could do is use the players we have in a more suitable formation. I think being more attacking minded in a 4-3-3 might have sufficed. Cabaye and Tiote sat too deep most the game.

  • 17 Minato // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:39 PM

Definitely deserved to win. Created enough chances and I think at least one of those offsides should have stood…the most positive side to me was how we looked defensively…Somehow we need to accommodate Mbiwa into the back four..

  • 18 manxpie // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:40 PM

nick 9 “some of you’s” wasn’t aimed at every 1 it was aimed at the constant matchday player and manager bashing which is on every matchday thread even before the game has even kicked off i seriously think some of them think where gonna win 5-0 and play worldclass football every game and totally and i mean TOTALLY forget that another team is playing thats wat annoys me!
there’s lots of people who say we’re the best fans in the country but 1 look at this blog would say a very different story!!

  • 19 Big Pappa Cissé // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:41 PM

The fact that people mention one of Gutierrez’s main reasons for starting (Protects Santon) says it all really when he is supposed to be a winger and create chances.

  • 20 nick_9 // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:41 PM

I agree Jonas has had his day and many fans have known it for a whole but tonight wasn’t his fault, nor obertans. I’ve seen the average player positions for our players and all of the front six spent their time mainly around the centre circle but despite the lack of width we should have won. Bad officiating at the end of the day, it’s just a shame we have it all to do in the away leg far from home a few days before a key home game. I don’t want to sound defeatist already but it’s going to be a big test.

  • 21 Toon-Prodigy // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:42 PM

Not the best of games lads, only seen the highlights I have work commitments.

Im getting tired of reading this Jonas this Jonas that.

I know he is not the best with his attacking displays, but who do you’s suggest takes over?

  • 22 Rake // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:45 PM

Anita over Tiote any day… unless we are playing stoke of course.

  • 23 manxpie // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:46 PM

so when is anita a winger???????????
jesus from a DM to a winger and you complain for playing players out of position!
pardew really can’t win with some of you’s
and as for the ANYONE comment go and support another team you arsehole!

  • 24 nick_9 // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:46 PM

Trouble is Manx we have a lot of fans not just the 50 thousand who attend SJP, we have got fans of all ages/maturity/state of mind and some are hard to deal with. Every club has their idiots and we are no different, 50000 supporting a team that hasn’t won a trophy in half a century is very loyal as was our championship attendances. I’ve bitten my tongue so many times on here because sometimes its just not worth it. It would be boring if we all agreed and some of the different views are quite Erm…… Interesting shall we say.

  • 25 jamesnufc86 // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:46 PM

@ 19 ha ha exactly , an attacking midfielder than performs a more than reasonable…errr…. defensive role

  • 26 John Tudor // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:46 PM

absolute scandlous diabolical officals stinks of corruption

  • 27 89Norcal // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:48 PM

The only one who could reliably take over for Jonas is Santon, and I’m second guessing whether we would be any weaker at LB for it, when you consider Jonas is eulogized for his hard defensive work; it only makes sense to swap those two.

People have typically called for Marveaux over Guti, but he’s seemed to settle into a central role better than a winger role.

Haidara was likely brought in to complete that Santon conversion to winger but we all know he’s still young. Thing is Pardew could probably just put Jonas there instead.

  • 28 croftus5678 // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:49 PM

    @ 3

here here m8 i second that.

or some people just do not see the good the man does and when he does do well get the hump that they was wrong and try convince everyone else of the matter !
i’m no guti lover over the last 2 seasons but this game and chelsea he started going forward with pace and taking people on with good effect tonight and yes 2 passes when way overhit but he also got a few passes correct and WON us corners from his wing play and taking people on and i will not call one of our own players when we are supposed to be “supporting” them when he did nothing to further damage his reputation in that game considering how innefective he has been in the past in some games.

anita is not a winger he’s a central player even though he can play lb but that would mean a whole formation change if he was to play him in guti’s place !
and i agree anita was our best mid player but who would you replace him with now out of sissoko/cabaye ?

you guys need to start supporting our team and stop trying to find faults in everything.

  • 29 Super Magpie // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:50 PM

We all know Jonas is no longer good enough but he is the only winger we have. Marveaux is not a winger, he has been terrible everytime he played there. This means we are left with Obertan and Jonas which is who we started with. Without Gouffran and HBA we are weak down the flanks.

  • 30 Toon-Prodigy // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:50 PM

The truth is we have no one better.

Marveux can’t defend or track back and is useless going forward in that position.

Fergie has crossing ability but is out of his depth and needs to go out on loan, whicj he is so I hear.

Anita couldn’t play there to save his life.

It should be obvious to you’s why Jonas is there.

If we signed Loic Remy he would be there.

It really is as simple as that.

  • 31 Big Pappa Cissé // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:52 PM

    @ Manx

I don’t want Anita to replace Jonas on the wing I want Marv. My team for today would have been

  • 32 nick_9 // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:53 PM

Aye super magpie. Both gouffran and Ben Arfa should be back for Southampton but I’d be surpised to see Benny for a full 90 and also i would really like us to progress in Europe before then. Reaching the latter stages of Europe will send out a message just liking signing top French players did.

  • 33 t00ntime // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:54 PM

When gouff came, jonas got pushed from his favoured LM postion to the RM. i’m 100% sure when HBA is fit jonas will be on the bench, I just hope marv gets the games in europe if we go through after this match fixing. But imo jonas is only playing cause we have no one else. Marv is good but seems to be alot better at being a sub. (i wud take a gamble and start him but then again i dont have to deal with the backlash if it goes wrong).

surely that can beat southampton even if most of the players will be a bit tired. They have 7 days rest 2games in 4 days and 7 days rest again. next 2 games are must win imo

  • 34 manxpie // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:55 PM

i agree nick but its the same old on here on matchdays that really get my goat in the week we get a very varied tide of posters that allow discussion but on matchday we get the same + others who post negative or very infuriating posts(as for me 2day 🙂 ) then never hear from them until the next game so theres no real discussion thats wat \annoys me

  • 35 jamesnufc86 // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:55 PM

Croftus , I admire Jonas’ “defensive” qualities , and can see that he works hard. I just think its very difficult for us as a team to make a transition into a top 4 side when we insist on playing a left winger that has obviously lost his attacking capabilities. Why? we need that dimension to our side ! there is only two wings!!

  • 36 croftus5678 // Feb 14, 2013 at 11:56 PM

marv is absolute c@@p on the wing ^^ when has anyone ever seen him play any good on the wing ?
when he did play there he was trying to get inside whenever he could marv is a no10 or attacking mid nothing else or he would be invisible for the whole game.

  • 37 89Norcal // Feb 15, 2013 at 12:00 AM

t00ntime is right. With Gouffran and HBA back, there will FINALLY be no room left for Jonas.

Still, Pardew could probably solve it now by swapping him and Santon, but whatever…lol.

  • 38 manxpie // Feb 15, 2013 at 12:00 AM

also thats why i called out jack butler before coz he’s a usual poster but he’s slagged off 2 players and the manager but not give any alternatives which annoys me aswell lol

  • 39 Big Pappa Cissé // Feb 15, 2013 at 12:03 AM

    @ croftus

Is Marv any less effective or crap on the Wing as Jonas ?. Gutierrez did not put one decent cross or pass into the box today for 90 minutes. Marv was on for about 20 minutes and played a great ball in for Cisse who took it on the chest and should have done better. He also nearly scored when he broke through the middle after latching on to a sloppy ball from their defender. So who do you reckon was more effective ? .

I don’t mindlessly slate Jonas for no reason like some people on here seem to make out. I just want to see the best NUFC team possible and our main problem lately has been lack of goals and creativity and IMO Marv is better at it than Gutierrez.

  • 40 jimmysmith // Feb 15, 2013 at 12:03 AM

If a 3 minute highlghts package is anything to go by then you’d have to say both sides created plenty of excellent chances, with Cisse looking on the cusp of a real purple patch of form.

His movement and anticipation is electric but his timing is ever so slightly off, as is his finishing. He seems on the verge of being lethal and if that happens I think we will be almost irresistable.

  • 41 croftus5678 // Feb 15, 2013 at 12:04 AM

i’m the other way i hate the fact he’s a defensive winger ! it should never happen in any team ! by all means track back ect but the main purpose of a winger is to go forward.

i honestly thought he did that today he took players on with ease was a lot more forward thinking and did win us corners and did some nice cutbacks into the pen area but everyone seems to not see that today and only see the 2 crosses that went way off course.

i’m more biased against him than most after saying i do not want to see him play for us again as he gives us nothing going forward and the shola is a waste of space also! but guti really has shown some quality and improvement for me over the last 3 games (still think shola is a waste of money though)

  • 42 manxpie // Feb 15, 2013 at 12:04 AM

exactly croftus thats wat i said before but supposedly marveaux is the best thing since sliced bread on the left wing and ANITA!!! is the same on the right wing!!

  • 43 Cisse09 // Feb 15, 2013 at 12:04 AM

*croftus5678.. I agree he has got the balance between Atticking and defending! But at least in the final third he looks to create! I think Sissoko had a poor game tonight rather sloppy at times. Passing and dribbling me thinks.

  • 44 jamesnufc86 // Feb 15, 2013 at 12:06 AM

^^ – does that mean me? Marv does a better job than Jonas on the wing , I can agree that he does look to come into the middle , but at least marv isn’t a liability, its getting sickening holding my breath every time Jonas gains possession, if it isn’t a easy pass, its a total arse over head display from the boy

  • 45 croftus5678 // Feb 15, 2013 at 12:08 AM

yes marv is worse than jonas on the wing with out doubt.
marv did that pass from attacking mid possition not the wing !
marv is lazy on the wing and does not track back only wanting to come inside all the time. (you have no need to take my word for it just look at some of the games he played there it was when we was all calling him saying he was a waste of space for signing him)

  • 46 manxpie // Feb 15, 2013 at 12:12 AM

big pappa marveux was played through the middle wen he came on sissko was put out on the wing so theres no argument there his best position is in the middle!!
every time marveux has been put out on the wing he has been totally invisable so jonas is the better option

  • 47 Cisse09 // Feb 15, 2013 at 12:21 AM

*post 44.. Yes indeed on Marv he can deliver a lot more than guti! Lmao! He can cross, take some one on, aha! But even with Joan’s in the side look how many chances we created with him in the side! As a team in general 2night. But 2goals disallowed! 1 probably one just off . Cisse could of had 3-4 easy! And that’s with half the balls not makin the box. So imajine on a good day! But yes Marv and arfa on the wings laughing! 🙂

  • 48 obatoyou // Feb 15, 2013 at 5:29 AM

If he fields a crappy team im gonna b pissd

  • 49 Owldman // Feb 15, 2013 at 8:29 PM

@15Official on goal line is there to give decisions as to weather ball is over the line or not , he is not involved in offside decisions.Sitting in leazes end first time i’ve been in there since we beat Vittorio Setebul in the old Fairs Cup.ln level 7 now Sir John Hall stand different aspects of the game from that level .First goal definitely seemed onside , too far away to comment on 2nd haven’t seen replays so have to leave it to others to judge! Even some of those can’t agree.
