Two Dutch Play-Makers Interesting Newcastle This Summer

3:31 pm, Saturday, February 16th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 33 Comments

There are two Dutch International attacking central midfielders who are currently on Newcastle’s radar screen, and we think one of them will be signed in the summer to further strengthen Newcastle’s squad.

siem de jong 321

Siem De Jong - Newcastle were linked with this player in January
One is a player we were heavily linked with in January, and he’s 24 year-old Siem de Jong, the older brother of former striker target Luuk de Jong, and he’s currently the Ajax captain and has played once for the full Dutch side.

Siem has been a one club player so far in his career, coming through the Ajax Youth Academy and making his debut for the club when he came on as a substitute in September of 2007 against Kozakken Boys, when he was just 18 years old.

De Jong stands 6’1″ tall, and he was born in Switzerland of Dutch parents, but the family moved back to Holland in 1995, when Siem was just six years old, and he joined the Ajax Youth Academy in 2005 from De Graafschap.

Siem is a very good technical player, and he’s played 200 times for Ajax with 65 goals, and we hope Newcastle were in negotiations last month with Ajax to bring him to the club in the summer, as was widely reported – he would be a terrific acquisition for Newcastle.

Georginio Wijnaldum -Liverpool

Georginio Wijnaldum – 22 year-old PSV play-maker

The other player the local Newcastle papers have said is a target of Newcastle this summer is 22 year-old PSV play-maker Georginio Wijnaldum, who stands 5’8″ tall and recently broke into the full Holland senior squad, and has two caps and one goal for his country.

Wijnaldum started his career at Feyenoord and made his debut in April, 2007 in the Eredivisie, and he played against FC Groningen, when he was just 16 years and 148 days old (approximately).

He was at Feyenoord until the summer of 2011 when at age 20, he was transferred to PSV for €5M (£4.3M) and at Feyenoord he has played 134 times with 25 goals and 11 assists.

And he has an excellent record at PSV, having played 81 times with 32 goals and 14 assists. So at just 22 he has already played 215 times with 57 goals and 25 assists, and that’s not a bad record at all.

Newcastle were first interested in this lad about a year ago and he certainly looks to be a player who could improve big time if Newcastle got him on Tyneside.

We think Newcastle will go after a center-back if Coloccini leaves the club, a central midfield player and a striker this summer to fill out the squad, and these are the two central midfield players we seem to be after.

Either one of the lads would be very good acquisitions – who do you think we should sign.

Comments welcome.

For once quit your moaning. it has gone beyond an opinion and you clearly don’t support the toon when you continue to disrespect your club

    Check
Look at the bigger picture and wise up. Take a look at the squads of the top sides were integrating new players. Anita is carrying an injury. Can’t you take a long holiday and give us all a break.

    Check t T
Do you sometimes post under Beattie 25?

  • 5 Jonas's better than Messi // Feb 16, 2013 at 4:15 PM

See how many games these young lads have played.

How many have Sammy & co played?
    That’s why they are crap.

  • 6 Pushy Pardew // Feb 16, 2013 at 4:19 PM

They should be out on loan gaining experience. That’s what the top sides do with their talented youngsters. Just look at Arsenal over the years.

  • 7 Pushy Pardew // Feb 16, 2013 at 4:21 PM

Boro are losing 3-0 at Palace.

Siem De Jong would be a great signing for us. But I can’t se why we should strenghten our ACM-position right now, unless we are to sell Cabaye in the next window.

We should still have a focus acquire a new CB and atleast one more striker.

We should also keep a tab on Viktor Fischer. Seems like a great prospect, and have been a couple of years in Ajax, so he is used to a calm, possesion-based way of playing football.

    Wijnaldum is unfamiliar to me.

    Arsenal losing1-0

This is an exact repeat of an article last week.
Unless its deja vu all over again

Where did you hear Anita was carrying an injury ?
Would explain why he didn’t get playing time Thurs. I expected him to come on.

  • 11 yo-yo // Feb 16, 2013 at 4:46 PM

“It’s a triple change for Arsenal as Tomas Rosicky, Gervinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all replaced, Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere come on.”

Now that’s the strength on the bench we need.

  • 12 Jonas's better than Messi // Feb 16, 2013 at 4:47 PM

Wicken you can never have enough good players especially midfielders.

  • 13 Shot Bru // Feb 16, 2013 at 4:48 PM

Of course Pardew would have to play his best team in the europa cup to attract De jong etc.

  • 14 Pushy Pardew // Feb 16, 2013 at 4:53 PM

    Yo
No great insight mate. I am a good listener. He’s only doing part of training routines. The word is he is being held back for Thursaday when he will be close to full fitness. Pards is not going to advertise just as he didn’t mention Cabaye’s groin problems in August. Just you Wait and see and it will be mentioned when he’s playing again.

who gives a shizen that we have southampton at the weekend, and two games close.
footy players are all atheletes and should most certainly be able to play two games on the trot every once and a while. i think every teams couple of best players play every game and maybe sit out one or two a season when its against lower league sides and they are still on the bench to be called up when needed.
full strength against them next week and southampton, should destroy them, the same team will hopefully be angry at what happened on thursday night which is some shocking decisions.
tinkering too much with the team will see us lose away, youngens will definitley drop their arses in ukraine.
we have a good chance of winning this in my opinion and dont see why we couldnt, easy draw against metalist, few more games under our belts and we should be looking to be the force in this competition not rejects like chelsea and the rest of the chumpion beleaguered drop outs
    KAPOW!

  • 16 Magpies-till-d3ath // Feb 16, 2013 at 5:02 PM

Just got back from NY to see we drew 0-0 with Metalist. Only back 3 hours and already I’m angry with officials! AHHH!!! Btw I heard the Spurs result while I was there. At least we’re starting to compete with big teamms again and not losing 7-3!

  • 17 Pushy Pardew // Feb 16, 2013 at 5:05 PM

    Jonas
Quite right. Midfielders who can replace starting midfield players without weakening the side. Games are won and lost by the strength of the midfield. We need to have the same squad in numbers and quality as the other sides competing for Champion League places. Mind let’s climb the league this season first!

  • 18 yo-yo // Feb 16, 2013 at 5:06 PM

Yeh that makes sens and explains subbing decisions Thurs.
I’d have put Anita on for Tiote in that game.(I’d have started Anita in fact)
He’s a canny player and will be big for us. He is pretty creative and would be great with Tiote and Cabaye and Sissoko in the hole. We didn’t spend over £6m on a squad player.

There was moaning on her about how crap AP is as Anita didn’t carry on getting starts. Rushing to judgement as always.

  • 19 Pushy Pardew // Feb 16, 2013 at 5:14 PM

What’s new. Every time we buy or are linked with a player it’s that were selling someone. They hate anyone looking forward positively. I can see us going with a very strong side v The Mentals. Good counterattacking performance and keeping it tight at the back. That means no Simpson or Williamson. Pards wants to give Santon a rest but he could well play.

  • 20 Dennis Twice // Feb 16, 2013 at 5:18 PM

    Surviving first…europa..new players….bla bla bla.
    Toon-Saints…nothing else matters

  • 21 joe // Feb 16, 2013 at 5:20 PM

    Toonaids

Nobody is saying that they can’t play 2 games in 4 days. Im pretty sure they can even play 3 or 4 games in 4 days if need be. But the point is if we dont rest players we might not be able to match Southampton’s intensity which might cost us

  • 22 Pushy Pardew // Feb 16, 2013 at 5:21 PM

Santon is a superb athlete. His training times are phenomenal and he has to be dragged off.
He’s really working on his shooting as he’s taunted over not yet scoring. Mind you we need to improve set plays and crossing which is poor. Lot of work going into set plays and lads buzzing.

  • 23 croftus5678 // Feb 16, 2013 at 5:22 PM

in the reality of the matter of the acm position i think one player who may be heading for the door as much as i like him is marv !

he’s an absolutely great player but can only play in 1 position and has a few too many off days to force one of our other lads out unfortunatly ! i also do not think he’s happy not being a starter.

imo we need 2 proper centre forwards if rumours are true and we get pea we should have a top 6 club next season but unless cambel comes through we need a 4th

  • 24 DevonToon // Feb 16, 2013 at 6:08 PM

Ok so we get everyone fit…. Who do you think is our best 11? And what system would you all play?
Gk Krul – rwb Debuchy – cb yanga-mbiwa – cb colo – lwb santon – dm tiote – cm anita – cm cabaye – cm sissoko – cf ben arfa – st cisse…. so cisse up top on his tod with ben arfa roaming where he wants, id pack the midfield and keep them pretty narrow, with debuchy and santon providing the width. I feel between tiote (muscle) mbiwa (pace) and colo (brains) they can cover while the wingbacks push forward, and anita/cabs/sissoko can pick and choose when to go forward or hold back! And we still have decent options off the bench eg gouff, marv, perch, tayls, guti etc

  • 25 Owldman // Feb 16, 2013 at 6:51 PM

Will you bloggers get real big strong forwards walk straight through Anita for example Benteke and others like him he is light weight we will have to let him develop some strength before we can use him on a regular basis, Tioti & Jonas dont often get knocked off the ball

  • 26 Moat1 // Feb 16, 2013 at 8:51 PM

get em both 4 a combined fee of 12m

  • 27 sphinxhunter // Feb 16, 2013 at 10:36 PM

Dream on Moat1, they could well cost that much each. NUFC aren’t alone in being interested in them. And then you have to balance the interest we have in others – PEA, Bony, Carroll, etc.
Board have already intimated the Summer will see a lot of kids arrive, probably not too many first teamers, then.

  • 28 wicken // Feb 17, 2013 at 12:38 AM

Jonas & Pushy, I’m fully aware of the importance of an strong midfield, but I think it will be extremly hard to juggle all these top class players. Siem De Jong whom is captain at Ajax would not be happy with the bench at Newcastle. And these players will require top salaries.

  • 29 Sav // Feb 17, 2013 at 3:54 AM

If only we can get someone who can beat a man and cross the ball without cutting in to change feet first, I’ll be happy.

Agree about the dutch players that are being talked about but Dutch players very rarely come to the UK they mainly go to to Spain,Italy or Germany
