Young Newcastle Star Can’t Believe What Happened

The Newcastle United U19 side beat Empoli 3-2 on Saturday, but after winning two of their three games in Group 9 of the Torneo di Viareggio, we went out of the tournament after finishing second in our group with 6 points.

Adam Campbell – spat on after the Empoli game

And 18 year-old Adam Campbell has said that after the game an Empoli player spit at him – this is what the youngster tweeted:

“Can’t believe someone from Empoli U20s actually spat in my face after the game today, never been so angry in my life”

Goals from Brandon Miele, Jonathyn Quinn and Macauley Booth allowed Newcastle to win the game, and star striker Campbell missed the first game after he was held back for potentially being part of the Europa League game last Thursday night – but he did not make the squad – but did make the final two games – both of which we won.

AC Milan won the group after beating Newcastle 2-1 last Tuesday – and although our lads won their remaining games – the second game being a 2-1 win against the Congo U17 side – we missed out on goal difference in getting one of the two slots given to the best runners-up.

Adam Campbell is a local North Shields lad and only turned 18 last month – and he is one of the brightest prospects Newcastle have had in their youth ranks for some time.

We suppose the best we can say about this is he’s learning the game. 🙁

Having a ginger step son is too good for Ashley.

Well Adam ! What can you say?

Part of the growing process, is actually learning the fact that :

” There are some right Bastards in the world “! and a lot of them are unsporting too!

    Disgusting thing to do.

Hard not to react angrily to that happening, the lad has shown great control.

Well this sort of thing happens in football and life in general….impossible to avoid all of the idiots out there.

I still think playing this lad in the development squad is wasting his time and stunting his development.

Either get him in the first team squad and see him off the bench or get him on loan for the rest of the season.

This half competitive football for the reserves serves no purpose as he is playing with inferior players and against them. He needs to be tested in a genuinely competitive match.

I’m sure some championship side would take him on loan, he is held in high regard and has a lot of pace, very useful in all levels of football.

Get him out on loan and he could be a useful player for us next year.

Its true that there should come a time where he should go out on loan and learn on his own…pick up some mistake and correct it himself…by playing with 1st teamers in other clubs.

    @T Sage

I’m a bit lost how you know better than the coaches who work with him every day and know how to develop players as its their job. 😉

Adam should take this as a compliment and laugh it off.

Unfortunetly this sort of thing goes on. While it’s one of the most disgusting things a human being can do to another its the best outlook.

Obviously wor adam has been skinning and upsetting a few people. Good progress keep it up Adam

Well Pardew said himself he is as good as shola in training (shola who gets to start some games and then gets to come off the bench in most and campbell who gets to do neither)….surely if they are equal then he deserves a go.

Also Campbell has a far better record in the reserves than any other player we have brought through.

Our academy is useless…we have 2 players in our squad who came through it…taylor and krul. (a couple others but they don’t really play).

Look at arsenal….produce more players than any other club really….they send so many out on loan who have gotten better from it…wilshire being the key example. Competitive football in the lower leagues or abroad is so much more beneficial than reserve games.

But then again I can’t argue with the record of our academy and staff….of wait there is no record, they produce barely anything.

Would love to see this guy out on loan in the Championship. At his age he needs games! Perhaps, if I may be so controversial, he could even go to Holland for a year. They have unparalleled success bringing through young talent and he could really benefit from a tactical education there.

FC Twente or AZ Alkmaar or even NEC Nijmegen would be likely candidates to take him on loan?
