Massadio Haidara will make his Newcastle United debut tonight at Metalist Kharkiv in the second leg of their Europa League Round of 32 tie – and he’s probably been looking very good in training.
Another surprise is that Danny Simpson comes in at right back and Yanga-Mbiwa goes to center-half with Steven Taylor rested – and Vurnon Anita gets a start in central midfield, and it seems that Cheick Tiote is sick and not available to play tonight.
But Alan Pardew will be able to play almost a fresh back four against Southampton on Sunday with Debuchy, Taylor (S) Coloccini and Davide Santon – so this is a good team selection, given our important game against the Saints on Sunday afternoon.
Massadio Haidara – starts tonight
Dan Gosling makes the squad for the first time since September, after recovering from his knee injury and is on the bench, and Shola Ameobi starts up front, so we have a bit of experience in the starting eleven too.
Top players Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko are part of the starting eleven – and that’s good.
Teams:
Metalist Kharkiv (4-2-3-1): Olexandr Goryainov; Cristian Villagra, Papa Gueye, Marco Torsiglieri, Fininho; Juan Manuel Torres, Edmar; Marlos, Cleiton Xavier, Jose Emesto Sosa (c); Jonathan Cristaldo
Substitutes: Vladimir Disljenkovic, Oleg Shelayev, Andriy Berezovchuk, Oleg Krasnopyorov, Sebastian Blanco, Willian, Jaja
Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haïdara; Vurnon Anita, Yohan Cabaye; Papiss Cisse, Moussa Sissoko, Sylvain Marveaux; Shola Ameobi
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, James Perch, Steven Taylor, Dan Gosling, Gael Bigirimana, Jonas Gutierrez, Gabriel Obertan
We need to get through tonight ….. somehow ….

Comment #284Tottenham have got good qualities players and they pass well. They create and they will score goals..just like ManUtd.
We need to do that. In trainning is the best time for the team to gel.
Maux got a chance in the BOX to cross in for both 7 & 9 but he BLAST it into the air.

Comment #285YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!
As for those of you trying to criticise the team and Pardew despite winning you can f#ck off. You’re not real fans, so get lost.
If you can’t get enjoyment from that, then you’re one sad sad guy.

Comment #287So, if I’ve got this right, the Krul booking was for him purposely not kicking it out of the area in order to make the ref make him take it again in order to waste time?!?

Comment #289Pards made the right call on the subs. Jonas for cisse, 451, harder work to see the game out. Anita looked tired, perch a natural swap. Biggi on for cabs so as not to risk serious injury. We deserved it.

Comment #291Jamie. We needed an out. We invited them on with no outlet and Krul saved the day. Delighted we’re through but we made it hard work in the last 15 min.

Comment #293Shola is the Boss. All played well. Great tactics. Great subs, job done. The two new defenders look class, santons place looks under pressure.

Comment #294Shola had a good game scored a great pen. Krul easily motm. Impressed with mbiwa – his balls out of defense are immense. Haidara a good prospect too.
No injuries, some key players rested, Gouffran, saylor, santon, debuchy, HBA and possibly tiote to return – job done.

Comment #297Still clueless as to why Pardew would play two out and out strikers in a 4-2-3-1 formation, Obertan/Guti should have played in place of Cisse buuuuuut we won and thats what counts. ALLEZ ALLEZ.

You completely slag the manager and the team and slate the way we are playing before a ball is even kicked then say you’ll take it back if we win, talk about hedging your bets.

Haven’t always been Pardew’s biggest fan (no really !!) but the way he had Perch and Jonas ready to come on really smelt of team spirit. Nearly had a tear !!
Brilliant that hoof ball now seems a thing of the past and we are getting it down and passing and moving since the French revolution began. 3 wins out of 4.
Krul – out of this world. His best game since Palermo as a teenager
Haidara – awesome debut
M’Biwa – absolute class
Marveaux – hardest I’ve seen him work
Socks – inspirational
Shola – did it for Sir Bobby like he said he would.

Comment #302Every time Shola scores it mean so much to the team. I’m surprise to say this but he’s already an icon of this club. Despite the fact that we are still going to criticize him from time to time I hope we will stay with us for the long years to come.

Comment #303JFA– @ 298 — Spot on . I don’t know about electrical wiring and you don’t know the difference between a philosopher and a psychologist but we both got that call right. Enjoy. Maybe you can explain to me how some people can have any claim on calling themselves fans. Merit. Marks:
Krul. 8
Simpson. 6
Yanga. 8
Coloccini. 7
Haidara. 7
Anita. 6
Cabaye 7
Sissoko 7
Marveaux 6
Shola 7
Cisse 5

Comment #304It is always the same. When you think Shola is Down and out, he always gets a goal. Often a good one, and he is a great penalty taker. By the way Hulk made a goal against Liverpool. Huge Carragher mistake

Comment #305Mtalist should have finished the game with 9 men one sent off for the elbow in the face on M’Bwia the other the keeper when he brought down Sissoko for the penalty he was the last man , but then that official on the goal line may as well not been there, for what good he did
