Newcastle Have Cabaye And Krul Injured

8:58 pm, Thursday, February 21st, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 99 Comments

It was a great win for Newcastle tonight,  but there are now worries about two of our best players – Tim Krul and Yohan Cabaye.

FC Metalist Kharkiv v Newcastle United FC - UEFA Europa League

Shola Ameobi - in action tonight – Shola score winner form penalty

Yohan Cabaye was replaced by Gael Bigirimana after 87 minutes and the French International seems to have sustained a knee injury, but just how bad that is we don’t know at the moment.

And Tim Krul was fouled in the last few minutes of the game and had to have treatment – and the reports coming out of Kharkiv say that he’s been spotted on crutches – so that doesn’t sound too good – although we don’t know how true that report is.

But we have to hope  these two players are not too badly injured, but of course there’s little room for any recovery from injuries, since we kick off in less than 72 hours against Southampton on Sunday – in what is a crucial league game for us.

We hope there will be some news on the injuries before the night is out.

What team will we face next in the EL ?

  • 3 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:01 PM

  • 4 olivant // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:02 PM

  • 5 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:03 PM

See previous thread someones answered you

  • 6 DanRo // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:04 PM

Cabaye injury might just be some playacting tactic on the pitch (87mins). I’m hoping. He would be a big miss.
Krul may just be precautionary. I’m being optimistic.

Tiote missed the game due to illness but I think he will start on Sunday if fit.
Good to see Anita play well.

    Btw – remember Brighton away…
    Sammy Ameobi
    Shane Ferguson
    Abeid
    Williamson
    Obertan

Not even near the starting XI.

    How times change?

  • 7 Baro // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:04 PM

anyone have a link where i can watch the full replay of the game?? PLEASEE?? I didn’t get a chance to watch the game….

  • 8 Jonny // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:05 PM

Simpson had a solid game tonight

  • 9 olivant // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:05 PM

    Thanks Spuggy :)

  • 10 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:05 PM

M’biwa, Salylor and Debuchy have made a huge difference to our defense.

  • 11 DanRo // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:06 PM

    George Caulkin ?@CaulkinTheTimes

Tim Krul leaves the stadium on crutches and with his left leg in a protective cast. #Nufc

Get him looked @ when they land in England.

  • 12 toonicle // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:08 PM

We just can’t catch a break can we? Why can’t we just have a good win without something bad happening too?

  • 13 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:08 PM

    @Baro

Keep checking will be on soon, maybe tomorrow. You can sometimes turn HD on in the vids too.

  • 14 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:09 PM

Krul and Cabaye and so important to us. I’m praying they’re gonna be ok.

  • 15 olivant // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:09 PM

If Krul and Cabaye are injured it will put preasure on the rest of the squad, perhaps they will stepp it up a notch

  • 16 Alan Pas-de-clue // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:10 PM

    team for saturday worst case

    debuchy colo taylor santon
    tiote sissoko
    guti marv gouffran
    cisse

push sissoko back if no cabaye as marv despite a poor game tonight is the only player ive seen who can be creative like cabaye. still quite a fresh team

  • 17 olivant // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:12 PM

@ Alan-Pas-De-Clue, that is not so bad if it is the worst team

  • 18 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:12 PM

Makes the Krul yellow card even more ridiculous.

  • 19 DanRo // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:12 PM

I forgot to mention that the clean sheets will do the team the world of good.
Haven’t had too many this year.
Wonder if anyone can tell the thread when was the last time we had back to back clean sheets?

  • 20 toon-farmer // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:13 PM

Think toon will still be good enough yo beat saints on sun without these 2

  • 21 IrishMan // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:13 PM

Great stuff. So who do we play in the next round? I can’t find it in previous thread.

  • 22 Graeme // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:14 PM

    Alan Pas-de-clue @ 16

I know confidence is high, but, PLEASE, can we have a Goal Keeper??? lol

  • 23 olivant // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:15 PM

Liverpool robbed of a penalty, hahaha

  • 24 rainrix // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:15 PM

Kinda hope cesspool and chelsea get through tonight. As much as i hate them i’d be great if a quarter of the teams left were english.

Townsends commentery is horrific though. Swear he follows every comment with yep ;)

  • 25 olivant // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:15 PM

@ Irishman it will be Hannover or Anzji

  • 26 martoon // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:16 PM

Alan Pas-de-clue @16 – I’d be happier if you has a goalkeeper in your team :)

  • 27 Alan Pas-de-clue // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:16 PM

    graeme

nah who needs one of them ;)

oops yeah it was meant to be elliot incase krul is out

  • 28 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:17 PM

Townsend not as bad a waddle – can’t stand that guy commentating. He was surprisingly positive about the toon tonight, maybe cause we got a pelanty.

  • 29 Baro // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:18 PM

    Spuggy

    THanks !

  • 30 rainrix // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:20 PM

Spuggy… I was suprised as well by that. Considering he used to play for us he always seems to put us down. Although fair play i though he was spot on about most things tonight.

  • 31 check the toastie // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:21 PM

Best team went through for sure, but a few points, we didnt create much, got a penalty through nothing, we lack serious pace with the team Parsnip put out, Simpson shouldnt be playing and Cisse right wing is simply a disgrace.

Yet again, seeing a game out for Pardew is dropping deep, and pretty much throwing bodies at shots and dangerous set pieces, when will he realise possession is key in seeing games out, plus a decent outlet, for example somebody who can chase balls into corners rather than a centre forward who struggles to break into a jog.

Bad news with the Bindippers, they look like they are going to produce the goods. Shite.

  • 32 ToonDownSouth // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:22 PM

    This Liverpool game is amazing!

  • 33 rainrix // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:22 PM

Suarez wow. He might be a tw@t but he can play football :)

  • 34 obatoyou // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:22 PM

    Suarez!!!
    Liverpool back in it mate,
english teams pullin it out of the hat tonight

  • 35 Alan Pas-de-clue // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:23 PM

when seeing a game out obertan is always a good sub to make, bung him on the half way line hoof it long tell him to run it into the corner, better than inviting pressure back on to ourselves

  • 36 olivant // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:24 PM

Liverpool 3-1 up, this is an explosive match. Doesnt look like they miss Carrol

  • 37 achtoon // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:24 PM

    Check…..you idiot.

  • 38 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:26 PM

    check

You are the personification of neggar.

Cabaye got a knock, and Mentalists threw everything forward and went for broke.

You, my friend suffer from a serious case confirmation bias. Google it.

  • 39 tequilamag // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:27 PM

Check, put your hatred away for one day and just enjoy the result, Simmo had a good game, Cisse was not on the wing and Shola even without the penalty played really well tonight. Mentalist Carkeys could not handle him at all.

  • 40 Alan Pas-de-clue // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:29 PM

tequila im all for taking the positives, but cisse defo played on the wing!

  • 41 achtoon // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:29 PM

I’m wondering who check thought would be better at right back than simpson. Debuchy couldnt play and santon injured. Simpson didnt do anything wrong, played well.

  • 42 yo-yo // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:30 PM

    3-5-2 anyone ?

  • 43 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:31 PM

    Alan PDC

Cisse played inside right. Not on the wing anymore than HBA plays on the wing.

  • 44 WWYCD // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:31 PM

Still in the Europa League? Pardew out!

  • 45 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:32 PM

    WWYCD

    Lol

  • 46 ToonDownSouth // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:32 PM

    Spuggy

Check’s hatred of Pardew (obsession, rather) just seems to make him ignorant to the fact that there’s actually another team playing. And that team have some football players, and a manager.

The idea that we should have it all our own way for 90 minutes is arrogant and delusional at best.

  • 47 obatoyou // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:32 PM

    suarez with another fk
    \

  • 48 obatoyou // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:32 PM

  • 49 tequilamag // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:32 PM

    Narrowest winger I ever saw,

  • 50 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:34 PM

    TDS

Agreed. In fact, you just described confirmation bias :-)

  • 51 manxpie // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:35 PM

check your just boring now your highest praise from us going through to the last 16 is ” the better team went through”!
and for me ameobi was the motm he won lots of balls and dragged there defenders all over the place and obviosly scored the all important goal oh and got kicked in the face and battered in the chest!
but you still find the time to slate him and as for simmo he was solid which we know he is and who else would you have put there if saylor wasn’t playing??

  • 52 achtoon // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:35 PM

Doesnt matter where cisse played, the fact is our tactics ensured the win, against the odds. Just freaking enjoy it people.

  • 53 Alan Pas-de-clue // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:36 PM

tequila i must have only seen the bits when he was hugging the touchline haha

    with the 3 5 2 possibility now

    krul
    taylor mbiwa colo
    debuchy cabaye sissoko tiote/anita santon
    ben arfa
    gouffran/cisse

    i like it

  • 54 WWYCD // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:37 PM

    Spuggy
;) Decent game though dont we agree lads…bit too many stops and starts for my liking and the ref was a bit too weak with the cards early on I thought but a wins a win and Shola scored another pen :D

Still really not a fan of Cisse anywhere other than an up top striker but it worked to an extent tonight. Mention to Haidara, MYM, Colo and Simmo I thought they all were great only out shone by the amazing Krul oh and Sissoko who seems to be able to play everywhere

  • 55 olivant // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:37 PM

Let us all just ba happy today. Great result, should have gone trough 3-0 overall. Now we just need to give Southampton a good flogging, say 4-0

  • 56 yo-yo // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:37 PM

I just love ‘confirmation bias’ !!
Catchy and K9 have it the worst imo

Everyone send positive energy to Cabaye and Krul

    Light candle.

    Numsheebaaaa Numsheebaaaaaa

  • 58 hotdog // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:41 PM

Cisse played on the wing. Everytime he got the ball he was standing on the touchline. Either way he wasn’t playing up top which is where he should be.

  • 59 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:41 PM

    yoyo

Hah thanks. I’m a trained analyst with nearly a decade of experience in empirical research but shhhh don’t tell anyone.

  • 60 olivant // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:41 PM

I will do a kumbayaa for Krull and Cabaye

  • 61 IrishMan // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:42 PM

Thanks Olivant. What are Anzhi like?

  • 62 WWYCD // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:43 PM

Krul in a protective boot isnt great news truely hope hes alright him getting a yellow was a complete joke and any news on Cabs?

  • 63 achtoon // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:43 PM

The bbc stats seem to have confused us with the opposition. More posession, more shots, less fouls. Surely that was nufc.

  • 64 manxpie // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:43 PM

AND check you say it was obviously pardews orders for the team to “sit back”??
there’s another team playing you know? another team wanting to win! and that team playing home needing 2 goals if it was the other way round would yo not wan’t us pressing the opposition as far back as possible!!?
to blame that on pardew just shows your ignorance!

  • 65 olivant // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:45 PM

@ Irishman, I must say I dont know. Have not seen any game. But they are a rich power team, so it is hard to say. Hannover are 1-0up, so I dony know WHO we will face

  • 66 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:45 PM

    Olivant

    Lol at your kumbayaa

  • 71 IrishMan // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:51 PM

    Oops – 3-2 now…

  • 73 manxpie // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:53 PM

  • 75 Shot Bru // Feb 21, 2013 at 9:56 PM

  • 79 ToonDownSouth // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:02 PM

Disappointed that Liverpool went out actually.

I really like that Newcastle, Spurs and Liverpool have all taken the competition really seriously.

  • 80 leeb1982 // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:02 PM

Don’t understand everyone having a pop at check. good performance today, BUT how much further can pardew develop this team. I think the end of the season is enough. doesnt get enough out of players. he was the one who said he was happy with what he had at the start of the season

  • 81 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:02 PM

    yoyo

Is he for hire – we could use a blog shrink!

  • 82 Tinman // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:04 PM

Both of them will just be knocks. Cabaye is definately not injured, he was playacting. All that happened was knees knocked together. Kruls didnt look bad either, might have swollen a little bit so they are being precautionery.

Both will start v Southampton, chill out

  • 83 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:05 PM

I know it’s so disappointing to finish 5th above chelsea, liverpool and everton and get into the Europa league.

He’s taking us nowhere – Pards out!

  • 84 coccolini // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:05 PM

might have been said already, but that was the best performance ive seen from simpson in a newcastle shirt. Absolute class

  • 85 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:06 PM

    Selective memory…

He spent the entire summer talking about how badly we needed new players, and how small our squad was.

Then, when it didn’t happen, he tried to stay positive. If he’d come out and talked about how terribly short his squad was, it would be an insult to the players at the club, and ‘fans’ would accuse him of being negative.

  • 87 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:07 PM

    TDS

More confirmation bias. We all do it like, just some more than others lol.

  • 88 IrishMan // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:07 PM

Russians win 4-2. Off to meet Anzhi in Makhachkala by the Caspian Sea. Bring your scarves…..

  • 89 Big Pappa Cissé // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:08 PM

My two main complaints tonight are that he played Cisse on the wing which is just a waste and we tried to sit back and defend for the best part of 20 minutes. They barely created anything until them and we should have just kept possession and frustrated them. Other than that a great away performance

  • 90 leeb1982 // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:09 PM

spuggy that was last year. we had a run without too many injuries. Unfortunately sometimes managers cant take clubs any further. it happens and i think, it has with him

  • 91 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:10 PM

Cisse still nearly scored. He’s looking a lot sharper these days, just needs to put a few away. He’s still getting shots on target, he’ll be up top come Sunday and soon I predict he will go on a goal scoring run.

  • 92 leeb1982 // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:12 PM

TDS why say your happy if your not. All he did by saying he was happy is insult our intelligence when 90% of people on here would say we undercooked it

  • 93 achtoon // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:12 PM

Aye lee, he should have come out and said the owner is shit and weve been left with a shit squad who wont win any games. Good man management that.

  • 94 ToonDownSouth // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:12 PM

To be fair to Cisse, he did score two in the first leg ;/

  • 95 Spuggy // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:12 PM

    lee

How is it that when we get true squad depth, we win 4 out of 5 (I’m counting metalist at home as a win) including chelsea at home and you say pards has taken us as far as he can?

Does not compute my dear boy.

  • 96 Shot Bru // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:14 PM

olivant…ireckon we can beat either Anzhi/Hannover…

obviously would want Hannover instead of Anzhi purely cause of logistical reasons in getting to Dagestan…

NUFC and Spurs have a great chance to do well….especially as Athletico went out tonight….

We should go allout to try and win the competition.

  • 97 leeb1982 // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:14 PM

So you want a manager that says what the puppet master says eh. achtoon i appreciate what he has done he is a decent manager but i honestly think he has took us as far as he can. i hope im wrong but lets wait and see

  • 98 reccerobbo // Feb 21, 2013 at 10:29 PM

My MOTM was Krul played a blinder when called upon. Shola was a close 2nd he was outstanding tonite. The whole back four played well. Thought Cabay wasn’t himself tonite.
Hope the injuries are not that bad.
Role on Sunday hoping for a clean sheet an at least 3 goals from the toon HWTL!!!
