Things were going just too well – so now we have some bad news that Tim Krul is facing several weeks out of the side with the ankle injury he picked up in the closing minutes of the 1-0 win against Metalist Kharkiv last night.
Tim Krul – out up to five weeks?
As planned, Tim had a scan today after arriving back on Tyneside, but the results of the scan have not been released, and the news is not yet official, and it’s certainly not coming from the club.
Tim is to meet with an ankle specialist to see how bad the injury is, and then maybe the club can put a better time-frame on just how long he may be out.
The report is coming from BBC Radio Newcastle that he will be out for five weeks, and if that’s true it will be interesting who gets the nod between the experienced Steve Harper or Rob Elliot, although the news is that Rob will be given a chance in the Premier League starting on Sunday, in the vital home game against Southampton.
Rob Elliot could get the nod
And certainly when Rob Elliot has played in the Newcastle first team in the Europa League this season, he’s put in some very good performances.
If Tim is out five weeks, that takes us to the end of March and that’s 7 total games, including the two games in the Europa League.
