Bad News – Tim Krul Reported To Be Out 5 Weeks

5:52 pm, Friday, February 22nd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 56 Comments

Things were going just too well – so now we have some bad news that Tim Krul is facing several weeks out of the side with the ankle injury he picked up in the closing minutes of the 1-0 win against Metalist Kharkiv last night.

Tim Krul – out up to five weeks?

As planned, Tim had a scan today after arriving back on Tyneside, but the results of the scan have not been released, and the news is not yet official, and it’s certainly not coming from the club.

Tim is to meet with  an ankle specialist to see how bad the injury is, and then maybe the club can put a better time-frame on just how long he may be out.

The report is coming from BBC Radio Newcastle that he will be out for five weeks, and if that’s true it will be interesting who gets the nod between the experienced Steve Harper or Rob Elliot, although the news is that Rob will be given a chance in the Premier League starting on Sunday, in the vital home game against Southampton.

Rob Elliot could get the nod

And certainly when Rob Elliot has played in the Newcastle first team in the Europa League this season, he’s put in some very good performances.

If Tim is out five weeks,  that takes us to the end of March and that’s 7 total games, including the two games in the Europa League.

Comments welcome.

Pardew Out! He should have subbed him last night…the clueless puppet.

Real shame about Krul, hope it’s not as bad as they think and he’s back in action a.s.a.p.

    All the best Timmy.

Just when things looked as though they were picking up -another streak of bad luck. The curse of Wonga.

    Relevant repost –

Krul being out might not matter so much against southampton but Liverpool? Arsenal? I do hope whatever they saw in Elliot comes to the fore. On a side note, they reckon thedilsh really loves the club etc, it should be some home PL debut for the lad on Dimanche! :D

  • 8 James RS // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:06 PM

He needs another goalkeeper maybe should have got one in January whilst they were at it. Elliot is just not good enough for us..stays on his line too much not decisive enough; Harpers past it unfortunately, why the hell did he let Forster go. there will be no more 1-0s now Elliot is back more like 3-2 if we can score more. Im a bit sad now Krul is very very good and no adequate replacement at this level now hes injured.

  • 9 James RS // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:08 PM

How is Cabaye fellas? is he out as well?

  • 10 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:08 PM

James…Keeping Forster wasn’t really an option anymore. He wanted the move as he is a good GK who didn’t want to be sat waiting for the day we needed him.

Elliot isn’t fantastic but has done a decent job whenever called upon. Not ideal, but he’ll do a job in Kruls absence. Looking at other PL clubs, how many of them have really good back-up GK’s? Not many of them have a great GK let alone two.

  • 11 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:09 PM

No update on Cabaye as far as I am aware…and I should know, I’m camped outside his house…

  • 12 Tsunki // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:10 PM

James RS – whoa whoa whoa! Easy with the doom spray there lad! You can do some serious damage with that gear. We’ve only just managed to get this place sorted and tidied and optimistic.

We are having the worst season for bad luck with injuries just as we are starting to have a settled backline and Krul getting back to form , boom injured

Why must the Toon be punished in the harshest way possible?!?

I hope its Elliot that replaces Krul as Harper was shite earlier in the season he has poor reflexes these days and was at fault for a few of our goals against Everton and also Man Utd as he cant organise a defense properly at corners at least Elliot is a good shot stopper as he will probably be busy in the next few weeks!!

This is also bad cause i think Pardew might go back into safe mode rather than attack mode and will probably play Perch, Tiote and Jonas every game to stifle teams

  • 14 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:10 PM

    Doom spray :)

  • 15 santonthenewmaldini // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:14 PM

Also I watch Celtic quite a lot and Forster is not that good he makes quite a lot of errors yes he played well against Barca but every keeper can have a good game every now and again where as Krul makes world class saves near enough every game for us although i do hope we have a sell on percentage for Forster as someone in the premiership will buy him eventually

Has anyone seen Jak Alnwick in action??!Have heard he has promise but never seen him in action probably too young to throw into the deep end

  • 16 Tsunki // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:19 PM

Ibiza – I don’t know jow he got hold of the stuff, maybe Catchy was sleeping? ;)

A certain young lad took his chance in a euro game and never looked back. Elliot could do the same – it will be some atmosphere on sunday and we can make him 2 foot taller with hands as big as Rebeccas backside so let’s get behind her sorry him! (Urgh)

  • 17 Tinman // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:21 PM

Hmmmm, maybe Shola could start up front and Cisse could go in goal for a few games. Pardew seems to like playing our number 9 out of position…

    Oh no he didnt ;)

  • 18 funguswatty // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:22 PM

come on man it was started by the dailymail and talksport and we all know they love trying to wind us toon fans up no end to until it on the official site to me it,s bull sh**

  • 19 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:22 PM

Tsunki…Maybe, or perhaps Catchy has gone in to business. To google I go, I assume “Catchys doom spray” will be the best place to start.

I have always been quite impressed with Elliot, whether that’s because I didn’t expect anything before or not I’m not so sure, but I’m not in panic mode yet.

  • 20 giimps // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:22 PM

It was on radio Newcastle that Harps is injured too,
Bad news but with a better defence in front of him , maybe Elliot will step up.
    Heres hoping anyhoo.

  • 21 Tinman // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:22 PM

Santonthenewmaldini, not sure havent played against Jack in 6 years. Those were the days.

  • 22 Tsunki // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:22 PM

Tinman – I heard ‘bbrrrrrrrm…….TSSSSSSSK’ at the end of that ha ha

  • 23 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:23 PM

Tinman…Not sure, I think he has that winger position down now. Did you see those crosses he put in? No, me neither :)

  • 24 toonLYF // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:24 PM

Update on Cabaye: he’s still the sexiest midfielder in the league.

  • 25 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:25 PM

    LYF…Phew, thank goodness for that.

  • 26 Tinman // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:26 PM

toonLYF, he wont beat Tevez to the outright sexiest player in the prem.

  • 27 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:27 PM

Tinman…Tevez couldn’t even win sexiest ape in a zoo competition.

  • 28 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:28 PM

Not that I’m aware of such a competition and I certainly have never been a judge for a competition like that…I’m waffling now, does this look a bit suspect?

  • 29 toonLYF // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:28 PM

Tinman…of course mate, but I see Tevez as an attacker and he’s without doubt the most handsome being to grace the English game.

  • 30 check the toastie // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:32 PM

Elliots done really well this year, and you know what it will be good to see how he does, his distibution is good, rolling the ball out and kicking is probably better than Kruls, should be interesting to see how he gets on, however as somebody else said, will probably make Pardew play 6 defensive midfielders, at least he can go back to his crippling injury list excuse.

Would just like to add that Ian Toon is a cock.

  • 31 DokToon // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:32 PM

that made me laugh, ’cause its true ibiza…

oh, on the video, no foul was called… nothing, even in front of the ref…

  • 32 Tinman // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:32 PM

Dont feed the Carlos, he will bite!

On topic, think we will be alright with Elliot for a few games. Hopefully it will just be a couple of games, looked no more than a slight knock. have to say I though Timmy was play acting, hes good for a bit time wasting. I would be aswell, it doesnt matter if you get booked, probably just wastes even more time!

Also the report I saw on SSN that Hodgson has been watching Taylor closely after a few impressive performances. Would be nice to see him get a call up.

  • 33 Carryingcoals // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:35 PM

Elliot will play, I’m certain of that. Big miss Krul mind. We may well have extra cover for the squad but Tim’s probably the person you’d least want to use.

  • 34 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:36 PM

Dok…You’ve lost me….what was true? I thought we could only talk in fiction on here?

On the foul…Madness. I suppose claims that Suarez walks all over the opposition are in fact spot on then?!?

Check…If that is the case, you do have to admire it’s typing skills. I’m personally quite proud of mine, but it couldn’t type half as much as Ian Toon…not that I haven’t tried.

  • 35 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:38 PM

To be clear, I’m proud of my c**k, not so much my typing skills :)

  • 36 Tinman // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:39 PM

Carryingcoals, nice article, flowed well. Right at the end you should change the Saturday to Sunday :)
    All the best mate.

  • 37 Tinman // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:41 PM

Hey Ibiza! No need to go calling Ian Toon ‘it’! HE is a person too. Or maybe he is a computer and thats how he types so fast! I think you may have stumbled across something there…

  • 38 Carryingcoals // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:42 PM

cheers dude – and yes, that’s probably wise :D

  • 39 Tinman // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:44 PM

Suarez has the skills to match the greatest players but will never be great because of his never ending antics.

  • 40 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:45 PM

Tinman….I used “it” with the idea that Ian Toon is an actual c**k. Whilst we may name them from time to time, they are not actual people.

Joking aside, Ian Toon is a good poster in my book and deserves to be a he when referred to :)

  • 41 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:46 PM

How you doing Carrying? Good article. Shame to lose Krul, but I’m not too worried…a little maybe, but not a lot. Hopefully he recovers quicker than expected.

  • 42 Tinman // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:46 PM

Mine is. And he has feelings too.

  • 43 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:48 PM

Tinman…Well please pass on my apologies to the little chap, I meant no offense. I’d say let’s shake and make up, but that’s not really my thing.

  • 44 NobbyNolano // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:49 PM

It was that coward Cristaldo who did it, the one who kept diving. More than confident Rob Elliot can do a job though, he did well at Old Trafford and at maritimo!

  • 45 Tinman // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:50 PM

Haha good banter to get me in the mood for going out later. Off to get me gladrags on.
    Catchy you all later ;)

  • 46 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:51 PM

Tinman…Please don’t catchy me, anything but that.

    Have a good one.

  • 47 Carryingcoals // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:52 PM

    Yeah good mate, thanks, yourself?

I’m still confident we can beat Southampton mind…just!

  • 48 funguswatty // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:53 PM

this from the official site Newcastle United can confirm that Tim Krul was assessed by Club medical staff on Friday and sent for a scan on Friday afternoon after sustaining an ankle injury in Thursday night’s Europa League match against Metalist Kharkiv in the Ukraine.
Krul is now scheduled to see an ankle specialist on Monday for a further assessment, after which time the Club should be able to provide another update.

  • 49 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:54 PM

Carrying…All good this end cheers. Looking forward to Sundays game and definitely confident we can win. Not sure that equates to thinking we will win, but it’s certainly ours to win imo.

  • 50 Big Pappa Cissé // Feb 22, 2013 at 6:54 PM

Best looking player in the league ? , look no further than Titus Bramble :) . Heard he turned down being the face of Armani to play professional football, and the reason for his monumental c*ck ups is simply because he would lose all concentration seeing his reflection during a match get lost in the beauty ;)

  • 51 DevonToon // Feb 22, 2013 at 7:02 PM

On marv….It may be that im 9 hours into my shift at work after getting no sleep, but i cant really recall him doin much wrong yesterday, apart from that wild smash when he should should have passed it it shola to scoop it over the bar from 2yrds out. His passing was crisp as per, showed some nice link up etc. I feel bad for the lad like, must be hard to keep focus knowing no matter what he does he will be dropped next game

  • 52 bosamuelson // Feb 22, 2013 at 7:07 PM

    Made this season worth while.

    Just watch you will know!!!

  • 53 DokToon // Feb 22, 2013 at 7:07 PM

tevez finishing in 2nd place in sexiest ape contest…. thats just funny and true…

  • 54 Harley // Feb 22, 2013 at 7:09 PM

Krul will be a big loss but Elliott has been outstanding when called upon this season. It remains to be seen whether he can do that over the course of 7-8 games but lets just hope kruls ankle isn’t as bad as they’re making out.

  • 55 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Feb 23, 2013 at 5:10 AM

The last time Krul came back injured was from International Duty with Holland?

Collo returned injured from Argentina at the same time!
There then followed a series of bad results which saw the whole season go sour on us. We were just starting to recover from that and the next few games, i believe would of seen us climbing the table?

But, we just don,t seem to be able to get a break, do we? Is Elliot good enough ? Well i guess we,ll find out in the next few weeks? Harper is still a good keeper, but in my vieuw strarting to get a bit past it?

To the people saying Krul should of been taken off at Metallist ! Thats bullshit, as he made a series of good saves at the end of the game.
Imagine, if Pardew had subbed him and Metalist had won the game in the last five minutes? You would all be on here screaming how the trainer should be sacked and asking why he nade such a stupid substitution !

It is a Shit break that Krul is out but maybe they will think about signing a keeper in the summer now? Who knows?

  • 56 Owldman // Feb 23, 2013 at 8:38 AM

@We had to let Forster go because he wasn’t content to sit on the bench! He wanted to be no1.the incident that caused Krull’s injury didn’t seem bad enough to cause any serious damage.
