Pardew Upbeat At Press Conference – But No Ben Arfa Tomorrow

5:40 pm, Saturday, February 23rd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 54 Comments

Alan Pardew held his news conference this afternoon for tomorrow’s home game against Southampton, and the Newcastle manager seemed confident about tomorrow’s game, especially when he pointed out his bench was very strong these days.

ben arfa at cheslea 2-0 defeat

Ben Arfa – not sharp enough yet

Alan talked about how Rob Elliot would be involved tomorrow, and that it was a good chance for the 26 year old goalkeeper, and he said it wasn’t yet clear how severe Tim Krul’s ankle injury was.

Alan said that Tim would definitely not be involved tomorrow – and he again said that Rob Elliot had been brilliant in training – and he deserved his chance.

And not surprisingly the reporters asked if Ben Arfa would be available, and this is what Alan said about the mercurial one:

“He definitely won’t be involved on Sunday, he’s nowhere near sharp enough for the Premier League level yet.”  “He’s getting there, he looks in good shape, looking forward to see him.” “I think maybe by Swansea we will get a little bit of Hatem hopefully”.

He said all the players now except Tim Krul and Hatem were fit and well and that they were all available.

Ben Arfa will be available for the game away at Southampton a week today.

Let us know how you think we’ll do tomorrow afternoon.

    We need the 3 points!

  • 2 santonthenewmaldini // Feb 23, 2013 at 5:44 PM

No point rushing Arfa back we should have more than enough firepower to take care of Southampton I think we are better introducing him gradually a we dont want him to get injured again

A sub appearance against Swansea, Anzhi Away, Stoke and then unleash him in a free role against Anzhi for the Home game as we might need goals by that time to go through!!

  • 3 aidantoon // Feb 23, 2013 at 5:45 PM

Would still have Benny on the bench, even If he got last ten mins.
    Why hold him back?

  • 4 aidantoon // Feb 23, 2013 at 5:55 PM

Just reading stuff about cabaye, love this man! Defo captain next season.

  • 5 IITianToon // Feb 23, 2013 at 5:59 PM

We have to win.. I cannot imagine anything other than that..
At least the atmosphere will be fantastic.. French day and all..

I still feel Debuchy has a lot more to give. Hope he does that, starting tomorrow.

I have no doubt we will score tomorrow.. though I do have a slight fear we might also concede. Just hope we score more.

I see us nicking this 2-1. Gouffran from a counter and Cabaye from a free kick. Lambert from a corner.

  • 6 toonLYF // Feb 23, 2013 at 5:59 PM

aidantoon…Definitely, no brainer, with Stevie T as vice. Yanga as back up vice for when Taylor is injured.

  • 7 sks_toon // Feb 23, 2013 at 6:00 PM

Hopefully this means Cabaye didnt sustain too bad of a knock. Its wired how there hasnt been news about him but im happy Pardew said everyone except HBA and Krul are in tomorrow, we dont want to rush HBA back too quickly.

  • 8 sks_toon // Feb 23, 2013 at 6:01 PM

just to clarify im not happy Krul is injured just happy there arent more injuries.

  • 9 IITianToon // Feb 23, 2013 at 6:03 PM

@aidantoon It’s a sin to enjoy reading Toon stuff and not posting links here :)

  • 10 tdt // Feb 23, 2013 at 6:08 PM

Pardew said in his pre-match interview today that everyone’s fit except Krul and HBA, hence this is the team I’m hoping for tomorrow:

Subs: Alnwick, Mbiwa, Perch, Anita, Marveaux, Obertan, Sh.Ameobi.

However I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the bench (other than Alnwick) started the game. Simpson and Haidara could also be on the bench too after their performances on Thursday.

Decent squad we’ve got now! The youngsters aren’t even getting on the bench at the moment.

We’ve got the team, now lets have the performance! HWTL

Some players are just born to be different.
Some mature are a faster rate and some slower
    while some ..

  • 17 Bambams // Feb 23, 2013 at 6:58 PM

I would not be surprised to see ben arfa play tomorrow. Pards likes to do this sort of thing that throws other managers, or at least he thinks it does. Time will tell

  • 18 davis_toons // Feb 23, 2013 at 7:01 PM

Some how i still believe in Obertan.. Give him another season or 2.. e.g. Simpson is more of a worst player but he did improve playing for us. at 23 there is alot of chance..

  • 19 Dennis Twice // Feb 23, 2013 at 7:13 PM

It`s six pointer and we better be ready…1-1 is not enough!

beating Manchester City and drawing with Everton. Their only loss under Mauricio Pochettino came at Old Trafford where they took the lead and were described by Sir Alex Ferguson as “the best team to play here this season”

  • 20 89Norcal // Feb 23, 2013 at 7:13 PM

I wasn’t impressed by Shola’s words to the journos about wanting more 1st team action, he’s hardly put the effort. But how funny was it that Pardew said Willo won’t get any more games because of Colo, Saylor and Mbiwa

  • 21 yo-yo // Feb 23, 2013 at 7:23 PM

Interesting 15 minute profile on Mike Ashley on Radio 4. Will appear as ‘listen again’ shortly.

Not going to rush benny back
I dont want to have to tell my bum boy guti he is droped so i will keep benny on ice until the fans get on my back

    Next season watch us go!
I know we still have wok to do to stay up but with this squad we will be fine.

  • 41 NUFC_LEAZES END // Feb 23, 2013 at 9:56 PM

How on earth is ashley RB? He doesn’t support the attackers. Llambias or wise would have been my choice as they both have pace and are great going forward

  • 42 Marty-Toon // Feb 23, 2013 at 10:23 PM

We will be well up for the game but they’re a top ball playing side and very good and quick n the counter.
Tomorrow will depend on Cisse staying on-side and actually putting the ball in the net me thinks.
We will create the chances but it’ll be a tough game.
Going to watch the game with a saints fan up the road from me,hope I get the last laugh

Anyone seen rafeals goal for manure?? What a piledriver!!

  • 46 toonarmydownsouth // Feb 23, 2013 at 10:56 PM

Super al enjoying sticking the knife in to QPR and there lack of ability upfront! Little dig at remy?
Really cant see how some pundits had them completly written off under hughes but dead certs too stay up purely because off redknapp!
3 months in and there position hasnt even fractionally improved, i think there goners

  • 47 Graeme // Feb 23, 2013 at 10:56 PM

TADS – it was a bit good, no doubt about it lol – even for a manure player!!

  • 48 toonLYF // Feb 23, 2013 at 11:02 PM

tads…lovely goal like, lovely player too.

  • 49 Graeme // Feb 23, 2013 at 11:07 PM

TADS – its all Spuds fault. If they hadn’t binned molten welly face Redcrap, there was a fighting chance they could have got a half decent Manager to replace Hughes.

As it was, they took the easy option and the rest, as they say, is history.

He has spent a fortune, achieved nothing and will most likely walk away with a sackfull of loot leaving them to sink or swim after they go down!!

  • 50 Joe Blog // Feb 23, 2013 at 11:08 PM

So, QPRs PL status – about as secure as a hymen in a Mackem secondary school.

White desert kepi hat never turned up today so had to improvise, looks the business I hope there’s not to many French foreign legion soldiers tomorrow, could be worth a shot on Motd.

  • 52 thespecialone-ameobi // Feb 23, 2013 at 11:25 PM

Lads do you really think it will be an easy game for us tomorrow. Southampton did recently beat man city

  • 53 ~ Phoenix Warrior Perch~ // Feb 23, 2013 at 11:51 PM

With all our injuries etc, this is the team I’d like to see put out tonight

  • 54 Corny74 // Feb 24, 2013 at 12:19 AM

I think Mbiwa should start. Looks to be the pick of the bunch. Big, Strong, composed and has Pace. Something that Saylor & Collo are lacking. Would rather have Collo play defensive mid than Tiote at the moment. He would protect the back 4 well and is less likely to be sent off.
