It’s Sunday so there is going to be some talk about transfers in the Sunday papers, and sure enough The Daily Express is reporting that both Arsenal and Manchester Untried could come after Newcastle’s top central midfielder Yohan Cabaye this summer.
Yohan Cabaye - will be in demand this summer
In the final weeks of last summer’s transfer window, it was reported that Arsenal came in for the French International, and at that time there were also other bids made by clubs for some of Newcastle’s other top stars.
But none of our top players left last summer, although that changed quickly in January, when Chelsea came in and activated Demba Ba’s release clause, and got him for £7M.
And after last month we now have a few more top stars – mostly French – that other clubs could be interested in over the summer.
So I suppose we’ll have to get used to this type of news once the summer transfer window opens, but Cabaye has become one of Newcastle’s central figures, and Newcastle looked a second class side when he was out with groin surgery for a couple of months late last year.
Every player has their price at Newcastle, but it will take an enormous bid to get Cabaye – and much higher than the £15M that Arsenal are supposed to be bidding out of a massive £70M transfer fund Arsene Wenger will be given this summer.
The 27 year-old 20 times capped French International joined Newcastle in the summer of 2011 from French Champions Lille, when Newcastle activated his release clause of €5M, which was around £4M in the exchange rates at the time.
Yohan has played 58 times for Newcastle with 9 goals and 10 assists.
