Arsenal, Red Devils After Newcastle’s Top Midfielder

It’s Sunday so there is going to be some talk about transfers in the Sunday papers, and sure enough The Daily Express is reporting that both Arsenal and Manchester Untried could come after Newcastle’s top central midfielder Yohan Cabaye this summer.

Yohan Cabaye – will be in demand this summer

In the final weeks of last summer’s transfer window, it was reported that Arsenal came in for the French International, and at that time there were also other bids made by clubs for some of Newcastle’s other top stars.

But none of our top players left last summer, although that changed quickly in January, when Chelsea came in and activated Demba Ba’s release clause, and got him for £7M.

And after last month we now have a few more top stars – mostly French – that other clubs could be interested in over the summer.

So I suppose we’ll have to get used to this type of news  once the summer transfer window opens, but Cabaye has become one of Newcastle’s central figures, and Newcastle looked a second class side when he was out with groin surgery for a couple of months late last year.

Every player has their price at Newcastle, but it will take an enormous bid to get Cabaye – and much higher than the £15M that Arsenal are supposed to be bidding out of a massive  £70M transfer fund Arsene Wenger will be given this summer.

The 27 year-old 20 times capped French International joined Newcastle in the summer of 2011 from French Champions Lille, when Newcastle activated his release clause of €5M, which was around £4M in the exchange rates at the time.

Yohan has played 58 times for Newcastle with 9 goals and 10 assists.

I would be very surprised if Cabaye has any form of release clause in his contract, other than for relegation.

If Arse or Manure are determined to try and sign him, its going to cost them an awful lot of money!!

Out of all our players, cabaye is single handedly the one player i am most confident in keeping hold of!
Nailed on to be next captain, loved by the fans, loved more by our RB ;), just cant see him leaving, barca possibly, manure? Not yet, arsenal? Pls were taking them over next season!!!!!

As the game gets nearer the more optimistic i get, dont know why it always happens, its as if you forget every previous plodding performance and expect today to be different, weird.

Anyway will be on the drink from eleven in Grey Street today, having a cultured day out for a change, if Soton come having a go it may play into our hands, hope so, looking forward to seeing Goofy and Sissoko again, would like to see Marv or Anita given a go instead of Tiote/Perch or Jonas respectively, if Parsnip goes for this i will give him some credit.

He wont so we will go with 3 of our midfielders playing really deep, fortunately we now have two superb full backs, Santon and Goofy are going to be brilliant together. Come on Boys lets have a few goals.

I hope Cabaye stays….we have missed him more than any other player this season..

It’s no coincidence that our form has improved since he came back from injury.

    Cabaye is absolute quality.

Fully agree would love to see anita play instead of perchinio and definatly infront of tiote at the moment!
However not sure about marv, as you say think goofy and santon look fantastic (best left side we’ve had since enrique/jose? Or even bernard/robert??) and dont think marv can play at all on the right, or on the wing at all tbh, also think jonas looks abit better shifted onto the right, links up well with debuchy so until HBA is back think jonas is the right choice

Only 9 goals and 10 assists…the guy is clearly league 2 standard. Sell him in the summer.

    Yohan out!

    Morning everyone.

If pardew is so determined to win today as he has stated in his press conference then any manager with any real ambition will play his best players who can actually produce on the pitch – fact.
With that in mind this should be the starting 11:-
    debuchy mbwia taylor haidarra
    anita cabaye sissiko
    ben arfa cisse gouffran

colo – technically very good but no pace.
Tiote – red card waiting to happen/liability.
Jonas – grafts but no end product

ben arfa should play. Pardew himself has said he is fine and looking sharp. Rooney was supposedly out yesterday due to missing a few days due to illness. Did fergie leave him out altogether? No. Why? Because fergie is a winner and rooney is one of his best players.
For me its about having a winning mentality. If your best are available they play. Simple.
However, jonas etc will play and it will be a nervy game today. Hope i am wrong as 3 points are a must.
Heres hoping that pardew is brave enough to field the best.

Breno…Didn’t he say he’s looking sharp, but not PL sharp yet? I’m all for getting Arfa back on the pitch, but getting back from an injury or from an illness are completely different. I’d rather he missed this game than the rest of the season and quite frankly we need to be able to get something against the Saints at SJP without him.

Pardew has to field the best team he possibly can as this is a must-win. But dont expect him to throw caution to the wind with a full-on attacking midfield, oh no no no. The last thing he wants is for this stains team to inflict a mortal blow, and they can. Still going for a 4-0 for us though ha ha 🙂

He did that against fulham and got slated for playing him so soon after injury
And tbf, he said he looked fit, but looked well off being match sharp so theres no way you can say HBA should be in the 11 today when he’s only been in training for about a week after a long lay off

You are correct TDS, out of all the players Cabaye is the one who i definitely think will NOT be leaving?
It will take a major bid from a Barca or a Manure to convince Fat Ash to sell him!

Still think Collo will quit in the summer, although i will be sorry to see him go. Tiote is very likely to be sold in the summer but i don,t really want to see him leave either? But, having said that, if big offers come in, then anything could happen?

Ibiza – I guess that puts him just behind Shola’s rate – except Bambi has taken 11 years to get there lol

I agree with most on this. I have said for ages that when Cabaye plays we play better and when Cabaye plays well we suddenly look a different team. We missed him more than any other when he was injured, no question. We have to hold onto him somehow if the long term plans are to be fulfilled.

As for Cabs, I dunno. His mate debs is here now, strong French contingent, possibility of being next seasons’ Captain…. but he would have to see something seriously right going on with this team if he was to resist an offer from a side that regularly haunts CL. I’d mark him down to stay first half of next season, maybe mid-season move if we are in the same hole.

Graeme…Shola is just doing his bit for his team. He knows if he did it every game he would be sold to some other club, so he’s kept himself under the radar for his entire career. Such a selfless man is wor Shola 🙂

Just watched MOTD through again and was less than impressed with the Stokkies way of playing against Fulham ! One of their players, should of had red? Plus Huth more or less charged someone with the point of his elbow?

We have to play Stoke in a few weeks time! They are a very physical side?

Dreamboat going nowhere. Expect Tiote to be sold though, as Anita & Bigi are capable of playing his position. Without the liability.

Said it before – Cabaye is EXACTLY who ManU need to take over from Scholes.
Yohan could be tempted by them, but not by the Gunners.

He is well and truly tied into, and believes in, our project, especially now that we have just recruited some top class players.

I’d take £25m. Replace him with Marvin Martin. Man Utd will also be after Perch and Tiote.

as much as I’d want to keep the whole team and knock on from the end of this season, I can’t help but entertain the fact that there might be a fire sale in the sumer and we will have to rebuild from scratch ‘again’…. its hard not to be pessimistic in the summer when it comes to NUFC
