Mathieu Debuchy will be our Man of the Match with 33% of the vote in the fantastic 4-2 win over an impressive Southampton side this afternoon at St. James’ Park, and Moussa Sissoko is on 23%, Cheick Tiote on 15% and Yohan Cabaye on 9%
Mathieu Debuchy – great game today for Newcastle
And it’s fitting that it was French Day today and three of the top four players for Newcastle today were French – and it was also a good team performance from our lads.
Moussa Sissoko and Yohan Cabaye both scored and Yoan Gouffran and Debuchy each got an assist, and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa replaced Colo at half time.
Mapou looked cool and collected at the back for Newcastle in the second half, and this lad has to start somewhere along the back four – surely.
Mathieu Debuchy was delighted with the win and that Newcastle have moved up to 14th place in the league table, and we are now only 3 points behind 10th placed Stoke on 33 points:
“It was good for us.” “It was a good initiative taken by the club to do that and we came away with a victory at the end of the day, which was fantastic.” “To be honest, we didn’t just need that – we just needed the thought of moving up the league to get the motivation – but it was a nice thing.”
“It is something which has really touched me, the warm welcome I’ve received from everyone – the team, the staff and all of the people involved here at Newcastle.” “I’ve been very warmly welcomed from day one, and of course from the fans with a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium for all the French players.”
“It was a 100 per cent French-made goal, but it was well played by the whole team and it was important for us to get back into the match.” “It wasn’t the best start, to concede at the beginning of the game, but we managed to get back into it very quickly.”
“We had a great game and everyone played together. We were united and we went and won the game.” “It was a very important win today. Obviously Southampton were right there next to us so it was important to get ahead of them.”
“And of course it takes us above Sunderland too. I was told about the rivalry and I know how important it was. It was a good thing for us to get the job done but also to move up the league today.”
“I know Yohan, I know how he takes a penalty. People can have some doubts but I was confident he was going to score.” “It’s obviously something you need to get into, but now I feel very comfortable in the team.”
“I feel very happy and I hope that will continue. I hope the team’s and my own performances will continue and we can climb further up the Premier League.”
Newcastle still have a lot to play for this season, and if we can keep winning our Premier League games and advance in the Europa League, we could still do very well from what was a terrible position on 19th January when we lost to Reading 2-1 – that was the low point of the season
That was a short five weeks ago – and a lot has happened in the last five weeks – including Newcastle getting four wins and a draw in our six games since then – which included our first two away wins of the season.
Things are looking much brighter now at Newcastle United.

Not saying I’d agree but am guessing Willo, Simmo, Obertan, Shola and Jonas?

Comment #44Anyway it was a good three points against a decent southmpton, not that much in the game, shame about the colo injury, mbiwa though is a really good kid, debuchy cabaye sissoko elliot and to be fair gouffy and tiote btoh worked very hard as well, santon was ok, great strike by cisse to boot.
Please benny come back very soon, i personally cant believe we still play one up top at home, its obvious how much the points mean to the club by the way we set up.
Today at 3-2 we all could have predicted what was going to happen regarding the substitution, it worked with the deflected goal, we did not create anything else, including not one cross from our beloved gutierrez(terrible from a wide player but im used to the huff and puff, why not play Mo Farrah if we want someone to run up and down the pitch for 90 mins creating zilch.

That is a dream of a toon team, b magic at home especially, even marv or anita mixed in there somewhere would not in any way weaken it IMO.

Dont think either of the Ameobi brothers are up too much, would probably go ahead and say I would rather keep Shola than Sammy though!

Tinman – sammi still has time on his side for me. I’m not gonna judge the kid in a struggling team at his age.

both Ameobi bro / Willo / Simmo / Jonas
Rationale……….
Shola great servant to the club but reaching retirement does not provide sufficient competition in a strikers role
Sammy promises so much but has not delivered….hopefully will improve on loan so perhaps worth another chance
Willo did great last season but has shown to be lacking and better suited to Championship perhaps
Simmo refused to extend his contract, fair enough. Good RB but not a RWB and now have cover with Santon and Mapou.
Jonas, one of my favourite players for his heart and work ethic and his tracking back and defending, but his pace is gone and he lacks the quality in the final third. Has never been prolific as a goal scorer and has very few assists this season.
Hear me out on this….look closely at the other players on the banner….they all offer the potential of something and if we want to go the next step further then these squad players do not provide solid competition imo.

Comment #54Probably the right decision to keep him, see if does develop. But usually top players would be showing more than he is at his age he is 20? Obviously there are exceptions to that rule.
Literally just read that he might be going on loan to Boro, would be good for him.

Given the chance I’d have Simmo signed up again on a good contract I rate the kid personally. Sammy I reckon could easily come good, maybe not a star but certainly good enough to be in the squad.
Shola and Jonas I love and both I’d happily keep in the squad because they offer plenty (Shola off the bench and Jonas is a good player for me and prior to this season a consistent 7/10 regardless of where he’s asked to play he’s our Milner)
Willo probably need replacing I conceed, even if I do like the bloke, though I reckon his spot is marked for one of the kids Good, Streete or one of the other two we recently got.
I have Obertan moved on and, being brutal, Marv for a decent preice though. Simmos spot is open because he seems to be away

Comment #66I was having a discussion with my mates about Lukaku and I thought it was unfair that he has got so many goals for West Brom being on loan. I mean imagine where they would be without his goals much like us with Ba last season. I thougt they should have a system that if they score more than 10 goals he maybe should then be loaned to another club or only be allowed to play for a certain amount of minutes per game for the rest of the season. One of the lads said well what about if you get a defender on loan they might stop 10-15 goals and I thought you can’t be sure unless they are goal line clearance’s which is very unlikely (Unless its Danny Simpson 🙂 ) Just a thought. Not that I would be complaining if we had him on loan and he was banging them in 😉

Comment #70Evening lads. Just thought I’d drop you a line from France.
Fantastic win today which could prove to be our biggest result of the season. Sissoko, gouffran and Debuchy were unstoppable. So pleased for Debs as he has gotten a lot of stick on here in the past. I’m assuming there’s no negativity on here tonight? Apart from maybe ‘robin’ but he’s just angry that normal service has been resumed with regards his beloved 5under1and!!
Huge coverage over here of the Newcastle game and its ‘France appreciation day’!!
Watching the PSG now. And my word, they are an outstanding outfit.
Time to get the NUFC letting out! 😉

Perch, Willo, Simmo are players getting chances cause they’re there when no one else is able to do job due to lack of experience.
I’d rather have three 19 year olds with potential pressing for those places.
Imo, there’s no need to add to the squad if they left, bring up young guns for em. Spend cash and wages elsewhere, like a striker.

I would be shocked if he ended next season as the starting striker for Chelsea if they don’t bag Falcao…though maybe Ba will hold his own I think Torres will be rotation (shame considering the player he used to be)
