Newcastle make seven changes to the side that started against Metalist Kharkiv on Thursday night, with Rob Elliot making his Premier League debut in goal in place of the injured Tim Krul.
The changes were much as expected and in fact it’s the team we though would start this afternoon, but Steve Harper is not fit because of a knee injury and 19 year-old Jak Alnwick is on the bench.
Yoan Gouffran returns from his shin injury he picked up at Tottenham, and there are four Frenchmen in the starting line-up on French Day – with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa on the bench – which is very strong today.
It’s great that we are doing so well in the Europa League, but we must go all out to win this game to improve our position in the league table.
For Southampton Ricky Lambert starts up front with Jason Puncheon – a possible Newcastle target in the summer when he becomes a free agent – is on the bench.
Howay The Lads!!
