Elliot, Tiote And Gouffran Start Against Saints

Southampton badge

Newcastle make seven changes to the side that started against Metalist Kharkiv on Thursday night, with Rob Elliot making his Premier League debut in goal in place of the injured Tim Krul.

The changes were much as expected and in fact it’s the team we though would start this afternoon, but Steve Harper is not fit because of a knee injury and 19 year-old Jak Alnwick is on the bench.

Yoan Gouffran returns from his shin injury he picked up at Tottenham, and there are four Frenchmen in the starting line-up on French Day – with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa on the bench – which is very strong today.

It’s great that we are doing so well in the Europa League, but we must go all out to win this game to improve our position in the league table.

For Southampton Ricky Lambert starts up front with Jason Puncheon – a possible Newcastle target in the summer when he becomes a free agent – is on the bench.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Rob Elliot; Mathieu Debuchy, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye; Jonas Gutierrez, Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran; Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Jak Alnwick, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Vurnon Anita, Sylvain Marveaux, James Perch, Gabriel Obertan, Shola Ameobi

Southampton – Boruc, Clyne, Yoshida, Hooiveld, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Cork, S. Davis, Rodriguez, Lallana, Lambert
Subs: K. Davis, Fonte, RamĂrez, Fox, Ward-Prowse, Mayuka, Puncheon

    From the last thread.

I will never understand how a player who has under performed for the majority of the season, is a liability in terms of cards, gets ahead of two players who are in form, do not get in the book as often and are just as effective in the team.

Apart from Tiote starting, thats probably our best line up. Would rather Goofy down the middle and Marv/obertan on the wings in place of Cisse and either Perch or Anita in place of Tiote.

Pardew, the loser never fails to amaze with his dodgy decisions dropping Mbwia, and keeping Colocini, the cart horse in the team and his buddy Jonas, what a clown Pardew is if they beat us today this idiot should be sacked!

Colos our captain he can’t be dropped! A class act on his day whereas M’biwa is hardly adapted to the PL. And Jonas is so underrated, may not be what he used to be offensively but offers a lot defensively plus he’s had a few good games for us now.

Perch played like 20 minutes of the game… I doubt he would be knackered.

Pretty good looking team Tiote really really needs to step it up big time today if he can bully them and not let them get into a rhythm then we could have them but he needs to watch as he is also a red card waiting to happen

Jonas will offer Debuchy protection as there left side is pretty strong Clyne is good going forward but pretty poor defending Santon and Gouffran can take advantage of this

If we play to our potential we should win this without a problem. -considering all the internationals we have -if we play to our potential.
I will be looking at the performances of Jonas today and Collo and Taylor.
Substitutions will be interesting if it’s a stalemate and the wrong subs are brought on it will be down to Percy -equally the opposite applies.
If we win this one my confidence will really be boosted.

Saying it now. Between now and the end of the season. I will not be surprised if Tiote gets suspended for picking up 5 yellows or gets a red.

Firstly, do I think that, that team is good enough to win today? Yes. Do I think that team will win today? Yes.

Secondly, I am a Gutierrez fan, his physical contribution to the team is irreplaceable, but I do feel that if he is going to start, he now would have to start as either a wing-back or CDM because he does not offer enough going forward.

If Pardew should have picked this team for today’s game:

    Elliot,
    Debuchy, M’biwa, S.Taylor, Santon
    Tiote, Anita,
    Gouffran Cabaye
    Sissoko
    Cisse

During the second half, change Gutierrez for Tiote or Anita, Coloccini for M’Biwa or S.Taylor, and Marveaux for Cisse and put Gouffran up front.

I’ve taken my usual half-day off from work to see the match today on the telly. We should win and it’s a shame King Benny is out still but Goofy Gouffran is back so that’s good news 🙂

I hope Cisse scores today as he badly needs it to raise his self-esteem.

Haha in a ideal world aye but face it wouldn’t be Tiote without his slightly mental ballerina impressions! Passing should be back on form though he’s got Cabs and Sissoko in front of him always moving Gouffran and Santon to his left, Debuchy to his right and Tayls/Colo behind can’t see a problem anymore! Movement all over the shop for him

    Ibiza
Haha well slightly more right minded than headcase like?

Hope Tiote recovers his form and does so very quickly otherwise he can be a liability and needs to be dropped. His passing this season has been terrible and has cost us many goals and put us in dangerous positions.
