Krul Has Ankle Strain But Big Chance For Rob Elliot

Rob Elliot will be in goal today for Newcastle united as we take on Southampton and Tim Krul will miss the game after a scan showed that he has a strain in his damaged ankle, but he will see a specialist tomorrow, and we should then get a better prognosis of the injury.

rob elliot man united 2-1

Rob Elliot – gets a big chance today

That should include how long Tim could be out – and initial estimates have said five weeks, but hopefully it will be less than that.

Krul injured his ankle in the 1-0 win over Metalist Kharkiv in the Europa League on Thursday night, and he is wisely sitting out today’s game, until the medics know what the state of his ankle injury is.

This is what Alan Pardew had to say on the Newcastle web-site about the situation.

“It’s an issue that’s not quite clear yet.” “On Monday we’ll probably know a little bit more.” “The scan’s showing that he’s got a strain in there and we need to protect him, so he definitely won’t play this weekend.”

“How long he’s out for, I don’t know really but one door closes and one opens and for Robbie, it’s a much-deserved door because he’s really done terrific on the training ground here and played some Europa League games earlier in the season and cemented his place in the hearts of our fans.”

“They know he’s good enough and now there’s an opportunity for him.”

It will be Elliot’s Premier League debut, after he signed on at Newcastle from Charlton Athletic on August 30th of 2011,  for a nominal fee.

The good thing for Rob today is that he will have a very solid back four in front of him, and hopefully Newcastle can get all 3 points and even anohter clean sheet – which would be the third in a row.

We have to get M’Biwa in as a starter even if it means playing 3 x CBs with a sweeper and wing backs or even as a DM. He has that vital, vital pace.

    Colo / Saylor
    Santon / Haidara

    Anita / Tiote

    Benny / Obertan

It would be good to see him make an impressive start to his first league by keeping a clean sheet against Saints.

I can see us scoring at their end – just need to stop them scoring and we have 3 points!! Easy lol

I think Southhampton will come at us early… Feel comfortable we can contain them. And if we get a goal early will go on and win comfortably.

Otherwise I think it will end up being an even game. And will be lucky to get the win.

Tell you what, our team composition is brilliantly suited to a 3-5-2, however thats definitely much much outside Pards comfort zone.
With Mbiwa, Taylor and Colo; Debs Santon ideal wing backs; Tiote holding with Cabaye and Sissoko in front; and Gouffy either alongside or (preferably) just tucked behind Cisse.

So Krul the Glasskeeper is our up to 5 weeks?

…when I watched the game I thought to myself don’t over do it Krul there was only minor contact (maybe he’s just made of glass)

So are we in for the the same lineup as always taking injuries into consideration or are Pards feeling brave today? 😀

Jesper…Will know a lot more about Krul tomorrow, so 5 weeks not confirmed…yet.

I think we’ll see a similar line up to the Villa, Chelsea and Spurs games tbh. That is unless Shola has nicked a starting spot, nah, surely not…

I’m surprised Krul has to wait until Monday to see a specialist – surely with all the money in football they cold have afforded one before then!

In the EL Elliott looked a very good shot stopper, but every goal keeper at this level should be.

It’s Krul’s commanding presence from crossed and set pieces that we’ll seriously miss, especially with big Ricky Lambert against us.

Lads read this guide! It costs £21 for 6 months, not £21 a month, £21 for the full 6 months – It’s Abu Dahbi Sports – They stream all 360 premiership games live in HD with English Commentary! If you get fed up with crap streams this is for you! No

Here’s a forum that gives help and that! I’ve been using it since december!

I guess some people are just born to be unpleasant cocks.

He never faced any sort of ariel barrage when he’s played before though. Like I said, I have every faith in him coping well with shots, but I’ve yet to see him claim the ball in the air like Krul does.

To be faith, that could be because he hasn’t had the chance to – but it does concern me, especially with Stoke coming up.

Also, tuned in to MOTD last night – Stoke have scored 58% of their goals from set pieces! 58%! That’s crazy!

TDS…We can’t all be wonderful, can we?

Very true, we have yet to see him deal with the various situations that PL football can bring. All I was saying really is that so far he’s dealt with challenges that have come his way, so I’m more confident than not. Would always prefer Krul in goal though, that’s a given.

    What’s our percentage? 0%? That’s also crazy.

Whatch the krul injury replay again. Bent his ankle sideways. Doesnt look much but those ones hurt and need proper recovery time or become long term problems. No reason to think hes made of glass, he also played on ut it will have been stiff next day. Goufran came off which an injury most sunday league players would continue with- a cut on the shin, and no-one said anything about that. Strange

Jesper…You seem to lack faith in Shola, what in his career has given you reason to doubt? 🙂

Talk about a confidence killer, having Shola outscore you…come on Cisse, best starting getting some more goals.

Santon…Must be really boring constantly dominating and beating the opposition by 3+ goals 🙂

Ive been very impressed when seeing elliot this season, not so much last season but he’s looked good this season
As for commanding the box, cant say ive seen much of him before he joined but the lower leagues are very physical so his experience there should help him with that!
But have to say TDS, disagree that krul commands the area, crosses n set piece’s, for me, have been a massive weak point in his game this season, well the whole defence tbf.
The amount of corners, set pieces krul comes to collect and misses is pretty bad, normally get away with it he missed a sitter vs spuds and almost gifted them goal
Krul is a great shot stopper but fir me there are alot of areas of his game that need improving before he becomes a top top keeper, commanding the box and distribution being the main 2 for me

    £10 @ 40/1 Santon last goal scorer.
    £10 @ 14/1 Santon to score anytime.
£10 @ 135/1 Newcastle to win 1-0, Santon only goal scorer.

Tads…Good point on the lower league experience, should be used to a physical game.

Also agree that Krul has some areas of his game that need work, but I still think he is a great keeper.

Aye no doubting that krul is a great keeper, we’d be a worse side without him over the last couple of seasons, but still think he has alot to improve on, but thats the one thing the toon always seem to have is top top keepers on the books!
