Rob Elliot will be in goal today for Newcastle united as we take on Southampton and Tim Krul will miss the game after a scan showed that he has a strain in his damaged ankle, but he will see a specialist tomorrow, and we should then get a better prognosis of the injury.
Rob Elliot – gets a big chance today
That should include how long Tim could be out – and initial estimates have said five weeks, but hopefully it will be less than that.
Krul injured his ankle in the 1-0 win over Metalist Kharkiv in the Europa League on Thursday night, and he is wisely sitting out today’s game, until the medics know what the state of his ankle injury is.
This is what Alan Pardew had to say on the Newcastle web-site about the situation.
“It’s an issue that’s not quite clear yet.” “On Monday we’ll probably know a little bit more.” “The scan’s showing that he’s got a strain in there and we need to protect him, so he definitely won’t play this weekend.”
“How long he’s out for, I don’t know really but one door closes and one opens and for Robbie, it’s a much-deserved door because he’s really done terrific on the training ground here and played some Europa League games earlier in the season and cemented his place in the hearts of our fans.”
“They know he’s good enough and now there’s an opportunity for him.”
It will be Elliot’s Premier League debut, after he signed on at Newcastle from Charlton Athletic on August 30th of 2011, Â for a nominal fee.
The good thing for Rob today is that he will have a very solid back four in front of him, and hopefully Newcastle can get all 3 points and even anohter clean sheet – which would be the third in a row.

Comment #42Thank gawd its not a broken Ankle?
If its his Ankle Bands then it will three to four weeks tops?
Trust me i work in a hospital, he will have to rest it for at least a few weeks though and take it easy after that?
If Elliot comes in today and does well then i would tag him as the no2 keeper?
Think we need to sign someone else in the Summer though, me-thinks?

Comment #44JC…No idea mate. Be great for him if he is though.
ExPat…I suppose it all depends on how Alnwick is progressing. If Elliot is No.2 and Alnwick isn’t far off then I’d imagine we’re okay in the GK department.

Comment #49Newexpat, he was manager for a while in the 80s, brought on Gazza as a player. I think he is a scout for Norwich at the moment.

Comment #50mot…Being able to produce the most magnificent of howlers is almost a requirement to be a Newcastle player – too predictable otherwise.

No way went through his pad dont be silly. You seen how small the pads are that the pros wear. It will have just missed the pad. Trust me mate i have had two cuts on my shin where you could see the bone while wearing pads. Its because the skin is mm thick on the shin bone. Both times i played on and didnt stop playing. And im not unique seen it loads of times. In fact on of my mates never really noticed until i told him i could see the bone and he starting moaning. Ha ha still played on after we ribbed him. No way a rugby player would have stopped trust me

Comment #59Team should be strong enough to do the job and the bench looks pretty healthy too. I’m sure it’s not everyone else pick, but with a little perspective, it’s not like it’s a team that should get ripped to shreds or anything.

Comment #62Not happy about tiote strolling back into the team in all honesty, thought pardew said people would start getting dropped etc?
Sorry but tiote is a liability who’s inclusion almost changes the whole mood of the game!
Anything other than a 100% mistake free and bookings free afternoon from him then pardew has failed in justifying starting him infront of anita/perch even MYM based on his europa showing

Comment #63I will never understand how a player who has under performed for the majority of the season, is a liability in terms of cards, gets ahead of two players who are in form, do not get in the book as often and are just as effective in the team.
Apart from Tiote starting, thats probably our best line up. Would rather Goofy down the middle and Marv/obertan on the wings in place of Cisse and either Perch or Anita in place of Tiote.

Comment #64Pardew, the loser never fails to amaze with his dodgy decisions dropping Mbwia, and keeping Colocini, the cart horse in the team and his buddy Jonas, what a clown Pardew is if they beat us today this idiot should be sacked!
