Mathieu Debuchy Was Absolutely Magnificent – Pardew

Alan Pardew was very happy with the performance of his side this afternoon, when the lads beat a good Southampton side 4-2

alan pardew happy saintsa

A happy looking Alan Pardew after the win today

It was the first time Newcastle had scored four goals all season, and it was the first win by more than one goal in the league by Newcastle since we hammered a 10 man Wigan side 3-0 on December 3rd.

Alan Pardew was delighted to beat one of his former clubs, and he had this to say to Sky Sports after the game:

“The French players were terrific.” “The English players were very good, too. But the new arrivals have put us in good shape.

“Six weeks ago we certainly wouldn’t have beaten Southampton. But now we look like a different team.”

“Debuchy was absolutely magnificent.” “That is why we tracked him for so long, as we didn’t want to miss out on a talent like that.”

Both Mathieu Debuchy and Cheick Tiote had excellent games today, and Alan Pardew now has a lot of players challenging for starting positions in the first team – which is exactly what we need.

And of course just an absolutely fabulous goal from Papiss Cisse today, and that will do his confidence a lot of good, because Papiss has been playing well – and has a great understanding developing with Moussa Sissoko.

Things in the Newcastle garden are starting to look very good at the moment with four wins in the last six games, since the new French contingent arrived on Tyneside last month.

I think everyone played well today apart from Santon who needs to realize he is a defender first and foremost, an attacker second. The good thing is we have Haidara breathing down his neck so he knows that another performance like that he could find himself benched. Also I have been critical of Tiote lately but was pleasantly surprised with his performance today and he looked back to his best.

Great boost for Cisse’s confidence. Tiote looking more like the player we watched last season. MYM looks solid. Elliot looking a good stand in for Krul and Debuchey looking world class. Swansea next up will be alot tougher but u feel we have a chance against most teams now.HWTL

    Poor poor bradford!
Great experience for curtis good though he’s done himself proud with this loan stint
And good on you wayne routledge great to see an ex player doing well, shame we thought obertan was an upgrade on him!

    Spuggy
You missed me off that list pal, hindsights great eh, but lets be honest on his recent performances tiote didnt deserve that starting place, he’s been awful this season
I said to WWYCD he owed us a performance and fair play he put a great one in, still with a hideous challenge thrown in on rodriguez, but still a great game for him so fair play to him lets hope he’s found his form now and keeps it going to the end of the season

Elliot was great today brilliant performance from him great distribution and some great takes and didnt let himself get bullied
    Debuchy
again was fantastic best performance in a toon shirt so far!
    Tayls
i dont think was too good today think he got done for pace and positioning for both goals
    Colo
    thought was okay
    Mbiwa
though done really well once he settled never easy coming on mid game at CB but showed his class, this lad needs to be playing!
    Santon
not his best game needs to get back so much quicker if he’s going to attack as much as he does
    Tiote
Best game this season, started to look like tiote again! Still had a nasty challenge on rodriguez but solid display
    Cabs
Great game as always cracking pen but poor corners today
    Sissoko
This bloke is a beast great great great game…..again!
    Jonas
Looks much more confident on the right, plays well with debs and drifts in and plays the ball well
    Goofy
So so impressed with this lad gets better every game he’s everywhere, defends, attacks, plays midfield what a cracking little player!
    Cisse
Great goal lets hope it boosts his confidence, on the whole though he needs to stop fluffing these simple 4-6 yard sitters he maybe holding the ball up well yadda yadda, but he’s our number 9 theres only one thing i care about him doing and thats putting the ball in the net, from an onside position!

I personally thought santon had a good game. Think your being a bit harsh there. I think he def goes missing at times but that’s only cos he is so attack minded.

But they got dumped by the bindippers despite playing some squad players – and we won there well last season so they are not invincible. Southampton have been on a roll recently – they were no pushover.

Another three wins and a draw for 40 pts and then just go for it.

    @Big Pappa Cisse

Santon only really made one error which was in the 2nd goal but then Taylor should have marked Lambert better when we expect Santon to go forward as much we have to expect he will get caught out sometimes but he creates space for others such as Sissoko and Gouffran to exploit

His run and piece of skill to get to they byline and put it in to the danger area for the 4th goal was class

Personally I would love to see him moved to the wing with Haidara behind him as he is too good at attacking to be a defender its a bit of a waste!!!

But what a game that was end to end entertainment at its best that all I ever want as a Toon fan is to get excited watching our team in free flow just got to hope the injury list does not start to increase again….

Sammy away to Boro?Good move that might mean we have 1st option on some of their young players we should strike up a deal with them to loan our young players every season

Also Medhi Abeid with 2 assists in a week for St Johnstone ?Maybe he will fulfill his potential eh Kets?

Great end to a fantastic week!!! We can only kick on from this today as imo this will be more of a boost for the lads than beating mentalist. One thing really grinds my gears tho, before the match the blog wad a wondrously optimistic and dare I say pleasant place…..until their goal brought out the inevitable trolls that like to fill this place on matchday. All the usual, Pardews $hit, Sholas $hit, we’re gonna get hammered, team selection is wrong etc. If you are true fans you’ll stick by the team AND manager and show the support we are supposedly famous for. Some of those trolls psrents woulda been better off playing with themselves instead of bringing such a miserable cnut into the world!!

Anyway, onwards and upwards this team if kept together can do great things

That is the point though. He goes missing and we concede from the left hand side. It would be fine if he created more but he only has one assist to my knowledge this season (Chelsea home). I am not saying he should not get forward but when he does he needs to get straight back. I know he is still young and very raw but he needs to know when to bomb on and when to stay where he is. Debuchy had the perfect game today for a full back, got forward a lot (won a penalty) and was strong in the tackle and I think Santon could learn from him.

We are all human one mistake doesn’t mean u lose ur place! Don’t just look to criticise.. You could say mbwia was at fault too plus the keeper could of done better. We won chill out! 🙂

    Big pappa

I know why you mean with santon. He gets forward well but struggles getting back at times.

Either he needs to be more disciplined or the team need to have a plan to deal with it, a dm sits a bit more to provide more cover.

I think, like you say, with time he will know when to make smarter runs and be more effective. But your also right haidara puts pressure on him so he knows he has to keep working on both aspects of his game.

He needs to work on his left foot a lot more, decent delivery on it but seems reluctant to use it and cuts in a bit too much. It would be ok but gouffran cuts inside mainly too which is good as we need options on the box but leaves us lacking a lot of genuine width out wide.

But a you say, he’s young and this will all come with time. He has debuchy to help him progress as well as getting advice when in the Italy squad again so I’m sure he will come on leaps and bounds over the next few years

In general in delighted with the win.

We played some nice stuff, Southampton always were going to have a good spell as they play good football but we dealt with it and came back strongly each time.

Can’t fault anyone too much today, a few minor errors here an there but that’s expected in a prem league game against good players.

Elliott was amazing I thought, not as good as krul in goal but his distribution is a million times better. That’s the big area Tim needs to work on.

I dislike it when one player or a manager gets singled out. Or gets grief because of poor form.

Form comes and goes with every footballer. There is no point giving them stick.

In Tiotes case. He is the best defensive mid at the club and one of the best in the league. He has by far the most ability and has the best all round game at NUFC by a mile. We seen that today.

Its gutting for the lads to be dropped but you have to play your best 11 when available. None of who stepped in put in world class performances they did well and did a job that is all.

Not one Toon fan would have Ben Arfa out the first eleven because Obertan or Jonas was doing well. Why? Because Ben Arfa is better and has more ability in his bag.

The same goes with Tiote. He is the best we have.

You have to field your best eleven when available.

I was at the game as usual today. Thought it was a decent performance today without being outstanding. Southampton are a good side, kept the ball very well, defending was average though. A couple of moments of class won us the game. Goufran on the left, Debuchy on the right and that wonder goal from Cisse WOW

Again they are a quality side attacking wise. And very much underrated! Away it will b tricky but were on a role! Our pace is biblical! Sissoko and Yoan can run all day. I recon we can maybe 3-1. Plus they will no doubt be on the ale for most the week aha!

you cannot expect players to be their best game in game out all the time. I think the important thing is cos’ we have a much better squad/ depth that we have other players in the team that can off-set n that. Agreed Saylor did not have a brill one….but that said its a team sport and the main thing is we got 3 pts and thats what we need every week! 3pts!!
In the summer we can look to the future but for now lets just be happy with the players giving their heart week in week out even if some of ’em are past their peak eg. Jonas 🙂

Santon does get caught at times high up the field,so as a team that should be pointed out that when he’s on a run up front that someone pulls in to cover-pretty normal for a defensive midfielder to hold there and pull out wide or fill in for the CB as he goes wide.
If santon becomes more cautious then we won’t get the attacking play that he’s so good at.
Great display today lads, watched the game with a saints fan at his place.
Poor first goal to give away but we played nice stuff today and you could see there’d be goals.
We look strong throughout the field and bench which is a nice change.
Very high level of quality throughout the team.
Good with 3 points, looking upwards now.
    Gouffran and Debuchy were brilliant
    Lovin it

A lot of people seem to forget that Santon’s obviously been given licence to push on. It works offensively, so we should stick with it and have a system in place to cover.

Either that or tell him that Maldini never got caught out of position. That’ll get him tracking back pretty quick

Disagree, you need to pick players who are playing with good form. I think Tiote had a good ACON hence his inclusion back in the 1st team. But you should always pick your best players and that is done on form not by name….surely.

As for using Jonas as an example re: HBA….Jonas is no longer an effective offensive player and that has been shown all season! In fact AP has played Jonas because “his name” and not necessarily his form. You should pick players by their form. Agree Tiote was immense today and probably his best performance this season.

    Spread,

You have to get your best players on the pitch though, to get their form back they need to be played. They need to regain that confidence. And that is what we have seen. He has been edged in and giving time and its worked.

Pardew has done that brilliantly with Tiote and now we are reaping the benefits. No disrespect to Perch or Anita, but they couldn’t do what Tiote did today. Pardew deserves credit for this.

    Tiote’s back.

The reality is that both Perch and Anita have been immense in recent games. All 3 are different players and offer different things but whilst Tiote is on paper the better player he or any other players within our squad should only be selected on their form. Its the competition that we now have that is keeping every player on their toes….that’s the most important thing. Each player must have a fair chance of getting into the 1st team otherwise it demotivates players / effects morale. AP is beginning to rotate effectively with a larger squad and we are beginning to see the real benefits hence and transformation in our form. I look forward to our fixtures looking forward as we are playing better as a team, based on form!

    And spread,

In regards to Jonas & Obertan,

I was using them as an example as to say you wouldn’t play them over Ben Arfa in that position IF they were doing well and he was fit to play.

Exactly the same would happen. Ben Arfa would be edged in and he would stake his claim once again because he has more ability and is the better player in that particular role. Tiote is no different. His form and ability will show and shine through eventually.

To get your absolute best out on the field and playing well with comfidence they have to be played is all im saying. Until Anita and Perch out do him ability wise and rise upto what he can do and show it on a regular basis he won’t be dropped and will always be first choice when available.

Work for me now, catch you’s later!
