When we played Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium back on 25th November last year, we were expected to do well against a side that at the time was lower in the league table than we were – but alarm bells were set off when we lost 2-0, and we were taken apart by the newly promoted south coast side.
Alan Pardew – desperate for the win today
And of course Alan Pardew was sacked by Southampton in August of 2010, just a few months before he was hired at Newcastle to replace Chris Hughton, and he will be desperate to get revenge today and win this game with his new look Newcastle side – which would be the fourth Newcastle win in the last six games.
This is what Alan Pardew said in the Daily Mail today:
“We took a battering, but they are up against a much better team.” “It’s a big game because we’re at home and it will give us 30 points if we win. So, with 11 games to go, that’s a decent target to aim for.”
“My front three in League One were Adam Lallana, Jason Puncheon and Rickie Lambert – and it’s still the same.” “So I know them inside out. They are three terrific players and it’s no surprise to me they’re in the Premier League.”
“They’re all match-winners, so we have a tough job to keep those three down.”
The latest betting on the game is that Newcastle are favored to win with odds of 11/10 and a Southampton win is at 15/5, and in our poll 84% think Newcastle will win the game today which will take us up to 14th position and above both Southampton and Sunderland.
That should be even more incentive for our players today – and Alan Pardew will also have a strong bench – so he can change things around in the second half if necessary.

We have a much stronger squad today than we had last time we played them, with a lot more skill and pace in the side.
If we play to our true potential, I don’t think they can live with us and we will win by 2 goals. Its down to Pardeaux to get the right players in the right positions and let them play.

We have to get M’biwa in as a starter even if it means playing 3 x CBs with a sweeper and wing backs or even as a DM. He has that vital, vital pace.
Ideally

Debuchy Colo/Saylor M’Biwa Santon/ Haidara

@5 we do not play the sweeper system! Too important a game to start experimenting, it takes time to adapt to that system.leave well alone
