Yohan Cabaye scores from the penalty spot after 67 minutes to put Newcastle 3-2 up
Let’s know who you think was Newcastle’s best player against Southampton this afternoon at St. James’ Park, after we went behind to a goals after only 3 minutes from Schneiderlin, but came storming back to go 2-1 up at the half, but then Southampton came back in the second half with a goal from Ricky Lambert before a penalty from Yohan Cabaye and an own goal saw Newcastle home to a vital 3 points.

Comment #2elliott for me, his save from lamberts free kick was vital and his distribution was brilliant.

Comment #3Voted for Debuchy. Thought he was a real attacking threat for us. Good aerial control and could have been a good cross, had Fox’s hand not been in the way.
and also..
I admit, Tiote had a good game today. One of his better performances this season. Lucky not to get a yellow in the first half.

Comment #8Between Debuchy and Tiote but I go Debuchy!
Only negatives were Santon getting back and Saylor turned for the first – but S’hampton were very good in those spells too.

Aye.. that throw was immense.. easily sailed over our own half.
On Elliot, he wasn’t tested that much in terms of shot stopping, made a good save against Ramires (albeit the ref had blown for handball). I think he could have done better for the two goals, perhaps caught up in the moment for the first goal. Decent distribution. Hopefully he gets some confidence from this win and does better next game.
He has the potential.

great game of football i thought i’d jinxed it calling catchy out but we were strong all over the pitch and for me debuchy deffo answered his defending questions motm!
santon was capable for there second but made up for it lata and cisse gave us another goal that we can watch again and again and again!
great result that gives us a good bit of breathing space
wonder if catchy appears!??????????

Comment #14Sissoko again for me he just dominates midfield and when he starts running with the ball you always expect something is going to happen

Comment #16Definitely Debuchy for me, carried the ball out of defense well. Good passing and movement. Got forward well also.
Good performance all round considering their pressing game and how tight it was.

Sissoko continues to be dominant in midfield.
Elliott looked good cover for krul.
Debuchy looks like he has the pace we all thought he had.
Mbiwa looks world class.
Don’t fear any team at the moment.

yeh i thought he was a bit poor for the first goal but given it was his debut in the league i was impressed with him.
i thought debuchy and sissoko were class too, there was no weak link for me today. southamptom beat city in their last game and have had 2 weeks rest. beating them 4-2 is a very good result.
to think we didnt even have ben arfa playing either! exciting times for the toon!

We continue to move upwards.
Football is getting better, playing alot more smarter. Good range of passing.
2 good results in 3 days.
Always knew we would pull away and the football would improve once our big players returned and our new recruitments were brought in.
Far too much quality in the squad when they are fit.
With this squad from the start of the season we would be sitting in the top 6-8 right now.
I’v voted Tiote. Thats the Tiote I know and love, great to see him back, he can build on that now.
Going to work tonight with a big smile on my face 🙂
Onwards and upwards.

Comment #26Can’t believe people here don’t think cabaye’s the mom. I been he was instrumental in 3 of our 4 goals. He basically ruled our midfield. Our next captain fantastic.
tiote was immense as well. Broke up play quite often.
denuchy played well but not mom in my opinion

Comment #30Sissoko was immense and my man of the match. Tiote looks like he wants to play for the Toon now and even managed to cut out the fouls, he knows he needs to do this to stay in the team.
Debucchy was brilliant and we can at last see what he can do if he comes forward.
Defence looks very solid apart from Santon’s reckless runs forward, especially as he has the magnificent Gouffran in front of him to knock the crosses in.
Wonderful result today and l thought Southampton were an absolute credit to the game and have 3 or 4 really good players. hope they don’t go down.
l think Santon might benifit from a spell on the bench and the French lad brought in to adapt to our game plan and the pace of our league.

Comment #32so i voted Tiote because he was back to his marauding bull best. Debuchy was immensely good, Elliot’s distribution is quality, cabaye passing is insane, sissoko just wow, Jonas works tirelessly, but on top of that we have Gouffran who is possibly our biggest revelation he is SO important for us.
whole team was good today, one little thing that annoyed me, was for their second goal, santon lost out and jogged back, Gouffran was busting a gut to get back.

Comment #33Definitely not Elliot Krul would have kept a clean sheet..still we have to expect to concede one or two goals per game now hes out..and not bum boy Perch either only a championship full back who plays either sideways or back immediately he gets the ball and no technical ability …Debuchy was outstanding so was Sissoko
