Pardew – Elliot Great Goalie – We’ve Got Good Quality Now

It seems that Dutch International Tim Krul is facing up to four weeks on the sidelines with his ankle injury, although we haven’t heard anything official on the prognosis or the estimated time Tim will be out for.

Rob Elliot – big chance for Newcastle reserve goalkeeper

We may get an update on that when Alan Pardew gives his press conference for the Swansea game later today – but there’s no doubt that Rob Elliot will get a number of first team games under his belt while Tim is injured

But with Steve Harper having a knee problem it could be that we again have 19 year-old Jak Alnwick on the bench – so he’s only a Rob Elliot injury away from making his Premier League debut.

But Steve Harper will be checked out today to see if he can be on the bench at Swansea.

There’s no doubt that Rob Elliot had a very good Premier League debut for Newcastle on Sunday – and he looks a good goalkeeper.

This is what Alan Pardew said about Rob today in the Evening Chronicle:

“He showed why we have no fear in playing him.” “He made some great saves and he took crosses, looking very accomplished.” “We have no concerns about him – he is a great goalie.”

“We have made some big strides.” “We’ve beaten Metalist, Chelsea and Southampton now.” “We are looking a really strong outfit, and have some good quality on the pitch now.”

It will be interesting to see how Swansea perform in front of their home crowd after winning their first major trophy ever, after beating Bradford 5-0 in the Capital One Cup last Sunday.

Last season we did very well at the Liberty Stadium with two excellent goals from Papiss Cisse in a 2-0 win – and after scoring that sensational goal against the Saints on Sunday – Papiss could be coming back into his best goal-scoring form.

We certainly hope so – and maybe Papiss can knock them in,  while Rob keeps them out at the other end.

A win is what we need in South Wales on Saturday afternoon.

Perhaps another Elliot assist for a Cisse goal?

That’s a point, Elliot probably has more assists that a few of our outfield players now.

Was it not last feb/march that Cisse found his shooting boots for us when he got here from ACON?
Rob Elliott is a good keeper, his distribution and quick thinking are Reineresque and may just get us more goals from quick counters than we are used to.
Benny being back too will speed up our attacks and hopefully get us goals from free-kicks and corners, up till now our set plays nave mainly been very poor.
With quality like Benny, Cisse, Gouffy, Cabaye ,Tayls and Sissoko in the box we may even get a goal from a set play this week (optimism never hurt anyone did it).
I am looking forward to a good end to the season and a push up the league 25-28 points and we will be saying “if only he had spent the money in the summer when he should have done we may have been 20 points further up the league and pushing one of the big spenders off the dinner table”
Theres always next year (and the rest of this year too of course)

Fergy to Birmingham on loan, good business for them, and us.
He will develope and bulk up in brummyland and will come back a better player because of it.
Good on him for wanting to play, it shows the mentality of a few of our younguns who want to play to get experience.

Although it was Elliots clearance that led to Cisse’s goal it was in fact Jonas’ s challenge on the defender which allowed Cisse to make that wonderful strike.

Thought Elliot’s distribution was excellent. He didn’t hoof the ball downfield for player to then run in the direction of the ball, he could actually put the ball where he wanted it. Not seen much of him, but I do think he could be an excellent keeper, and pressure needs to be applied to Krul. He hasn’t had a bad season, but compared to last year, he hasn’t performed as well.
