It seems that Dutch International Tim Krul is facing up to four weeks on the sidelines with his ankle injury, although we haven’t heard anything official on the prognosis or the estimated time Tim will be out for.
Rob Elliot – big chance for Newcastle reserve goalkeeper
We may get an update on that when Alan Pardew gives his press conference for the Swansea game later today – but there’s no doubt that Rob Elliot will get a number of first team games under his belt while Tim is injured
But with Steve Harper having a knee problem it could be that we again have 19 year-old Jak Alnwick on the bench – so he’s only a Rob Elliot injury away from making his Premier League debut.
But Steve Harper will be checked out today to see if he can be on the bench at Swansea.
There’s no doubt that Rob Elliot had a very good Premier League debut for Newcastle on Sunday – and he looks a good goalkeeper.
This is what Alan Pardew said about Rob today in the Evening Chronicle:
“He showed why we have no fear in playing him.” “He made some great saves and he took crosses, looking very accomplished.” “We have no concerns about him – he is a great goalie.”
“We have made some big strides.” “We’ve beaten Metalist, Chelsea and Southampton now.” “We are looking a really strong outfit, and have some good quality on the pitch now.”
It will be interesting to see how Swansea perform in front of their home crowd after winning their first major trophy ever, after beating Bradford 5-0 in the Capital One Cup last Sunday.
Last season we did very well at the Liberty Stadium with two excellent goals from Papiss Cisse in a 2-0 win – and after scoring that sensational goal against the Saints on Sunday – Papiss could be coming back into his best goal-scoring form.
We certainly hope so – and maybe Papiss can knock them in, while Rob keeps them out at the other end.
A win is what we need in South Wales on Saturday afternoon.
