Newcastle did almost everything right but win the game at Swansea in the second half, but the truth is we missed too many chances, but Yohan Cabaye hit the cross-bar and Michel Vorm made some excellent saves for the home side.
Alan Pardew – it just didn’t happen for us today
But amazingly it was Swansea who got a late goal, completely against the run of pla, y to take all 3 points and Newcastle played some of their best football in that second half, but yet we still lost the game.
Alan Pardew talked to Rob Scanlon after the game – and he tried to look on the bright side:
“Yeah – it’s so disappointing today, we played as good as we could have probably played here without getting anything credible – we bossed the second half and they’ve hardly been up our end, chance after chance, but you know you have to take those chances at this level.”
“We didn’t take them and you are ultimately are open to a mistake – and one error at the back at the back and that’s what happens – it cost us a goal.”
“We were just hesitant in stepping on them and you have to step on Swansea and you can’t let them dictate – and we did for 20 minutes and struggled – but second half we stood right on them, right in their face, wouldn’t let them play, and made them kick it long and bossed it.”
“Cabaye was pulling the strings and open little avenues, with Moussa powerful.” “It was a heartening performance in terms of the team in terms of quality, but it’s difficult when you’ve come away and lost to say things like that, but that was the case today.”
“We had three or four of them flashing across the box, and it just needed that little toe-in, but it didn’t happen for us today” “We are a good side and we’ll be okay and hopefully Thursday we can get ourselves a victory, although it will be really really tough, but Sunday is a big game and we need to win that game
Newcastle play on an Astroturf pitch on Thursday in Russia in the Europa League, and Alan Pardew said that Coloccini would not play, because it would be stupid to risk him with his back injury.
