Newcastle did almost everything right but win the game at Swansea in the second half, but the truth is we missed too many chances, but Yohan Cabaye hit the cross-bar and Michel Vorm made some excellent saves for the home side.
Alan Pardew – it just didn’t happen for us today
But amazingly it was Swansea who got a late goal, completely against the run of pla, y to take all 3 points and Newcastle played some of their best football in that second half, but yet we still lost the game.
Alan Pardew talked to Rob Scanlon after the game – and he tried to look on the bright side:
“Yeah – it’s so disappointing today, we played as good as we could have probably played here without getting anything credible – we bossed the second half and they’ve hardly been up our end, chance after chance, but you know you have to take those chances at this level.”
“We didn’t take them and you are ultimately are open to a mistake – and one error at the back at the back and that’s what happens – it cost us a goal.”
“We were just hesitant in stepping on them and you have to step on Swansea and you can’t let them dictate – and we did for 20 minutes and struggled – but second half we stood right on them, right in their face, wouldn’t let them play, and made them kick it long and bossed it.”
“Cabaye was pulling the strings and open little avenues, with Moussa powerful.” “It was a heartening performance in terms of the team in terms of quality, but it’s difficult when you’ve come away and lost to say things like that, but that was the case today.”
“We had three or four of them flashing across the box, and it just needed that little toe-in, but it didn’t happen for us today” “We are a good side and we’ll be okay and hopefully Thursday we can get ourselves a victory, although it will be really really tough, but Sunday is a big game and we need to win that game
Newcastle play on an Astroturf pitch on Thursday in Russia in the Europa League, and Alan Pardew said that Coloccini would not play, because it would be stupid to risk him with his back injury.

Comment #1He will have those words carved on his Tombstone old Pardew the worst manager in the league. “it just did’nt happen for us today” The idiot maybe if he played Obertan or Anita, instead of Jonas, who is finished just like Pardew, in the summer we all hope!

Comment #3after a very good run one loss and again it’s blame pardew time.
the match i watched today was excellent and pardew did nothing wrong at all, it might have been worth bring on shola earlier but that would have just made things easier for them to blame him.
the blame from what i watch lies with goffran and cisse for both wasting easy chances and also the defenders for sloppy defending saylor was ok most the game apart from that goal.
as for this so called penalty that swansea didn’t get well that has nothing to do with the player himself that was the refs fault for not giving it cisse and goufran both were at fault for their wasted chances.

Comment #4my view is pards should have brought the subs on earlier . the subs were right – just the wrong time. we were playing by ourselves in the 2nd half. we attacked a lot more today than we have any other away game. the game was ours to lose.
with all our possesion i think their keeper made only one save from soko. it was obvious at that stage our goal scorers were struggling. bring on the subs at that point it could have been a lot different pardew, instead of going for the win, was hoping for a win , if not , apoint will do. wrong. we could have took all 3- not for the first time this season, pards blue it again.

Comment #6Realistically didnt expect Newcastle to come away with anything was hoping for a draw, to be honest been watching the past few games an wondering what one earth pards must be thinking, i think it is obvious santon can not defend on the other hand guttierez can not attack, dont see any reason why the pair cant swap until the new young left back is ready.

Comment #7Thought we played very well in the 2nd half, but think we had a bit of a communication problem at the back, thanks to Saylor who got two away in the first half, not sure whether Elliott was carrying an injury, but there some bad back passes to him today, Yes we should have won, and Yes we made a total mess of defending their only real attack in the 2nd half from which they scored.

Comment #8On another day we could have won by a stretch. But our finishing was nowhere near its best and it cost us with a calamity of a goal which was totally against the run of play. Play like that and create that many chances and we will be fine.

Comment #10To be honest I am gutted after that, I never gave us a chance before the game started but after cming so close to nicking a point, I fear it could be a sore one to take. Hopefullywe can bounce back against Stoke next Sunday.

Comment #11Very unlucky today, a nervy start faced by a team and crowd who had just paraded a first trophy in 101 years but I felt we came right back into the game and if some chances had of been taken we could have quite easily of won by a canter, they had some chances as well mind so apart from the defeat I thought it was quite a good game, If we had of been pushing for an El or top four spot it would have been a tradegy but as were not going to be relegated and wont be up there so the game was eventually inconsequential.

Comment #13Listen – you get days like this, If we were mid to high table we would be just chalking this ne off and moving on. So lets do that. We will win our next game because we cant create so many chances without putting them away some time. Cabayes and Sissokos shots today – on another day goals of the month. Lets not cry, we got done but we didnt let ourselves down, this is way different to getting turned over by the likes of reading with abject displays. We will rise!

Comment #21our big problem is that Pardew is not going to drop jonah so we are stuck with him for the rest of the season, relegation or not, the trouble is he plays on the right now so there’s nobody to cover for santon now so we are screwed both ways

Comment #22I think we were unlucky today. Played really well. I noticed cabaye was picking mid range passes out really well and thus releasing players on the counter. He did that really well. Our strike was just not potent enough I’m afraid. I think if any of the chances fell to sissoko he would’ve finished them.

Comment #23get rid of santon? a bit of an over reaction. You’re all complaining about jonas, but think for a second. Santon was our best player for the first half of the season, lots of chances +minimal goals from his side. Now teams look to attack his side and the right seems alor safer, what has changed? jonas has changed place.
I think we will be 100x better attacking wise when HBA comes in for jonas, but u cant deny that he helps alot defensively.
Also @1 if AP started obertan there would of been hell on. atm he cant go forward/cross/dribble/defend/shoot he can maybe find a short pass and use his pace but for the rest he isnt good enough. Jonas will play until HBA takes his place back.
Not alot of mentions of gouff today but i think every match he has played he has quietly worked hard and done a job, today he was good too. I know people hate him but if QPR do go down (fingers crossed) remy has a release caluse meaning we can get him for free/5mil (depending on what rumour you believe). He has had 3 shots on target and scored 2. his pace+lethal finishing skills combined with gouff, hba, sissoko and cabaye to let them loose? jezus i feel soory for other teams already. (aub would also be good upfront, i just want some on pacey and lethal. Cisse is never pacey but atm he is less lethal than fu**** xisco :S)

Comment #24remy looks decent but still rather have Aubameyang but he is getting linked with all sorts of teams but we do need a clinical finisher and today proved it

Comment #25One step forward, two steps back, that all we will ever get with Pardew. It is not for the lack of players, it’s about how they are used. I’m sorry but as long as Pardew is with us, we are going down not up. I can only be negative until he leaves.

Has he always been sack by lesser club, I have seen nothing to prove he is up to managing us. We started today like last week. In the second half we were on the up, but only brings on the subs when we done. To late, and thing it’s to late for us.

Comment #29@wooler 1 step forward 2 back? i’m yet to see the 2nd step back. we went 1 forward (middle of table team too EL) and 1 back (middle of table team). the seasons not over theres still like 30pts up for grabs. we might even finish in the top 10.
we have been plagued with injuries and Krul will be a big miss whilst he is out (i’m sorry i just dont rate elliot, he is inconsistent and he makes more bad saves than good ones). EL hasnt helped us but now it might help us lift our spirits. Judge AP at the end of the season, thats when MA will be judged and if we keep playing like this, the only thing MA will give AP in the summer is his backing. No chance of him being fired unless something goes really wrong

Comment #31We were the better team today by a distance. Some very poor finishing and one lucky break done for us.
You may watch the highlights and study the stats but the truth is we were much better than them. Credit where it is due they dug in and got the break, but I felt we deserved more, so much more.
The doughballs who come on here with the blame the manager routine are wrong on this occasion. Poor finishing cost us 3 vital points.

Just thought I’d show you this, very interesting.
From a Middlesborough fan:
“You know sometimes, when you go to the fridge or cupboard and there’s nowt there. You do your best to make something worthwhile, but it’s just lacking that certain something to make it special. Well the Boro team were just like that. Until the extra ingredient was added…AMEOBI.
Absolutely fantastic, he was, in the first half in particular. He made Boro look something special .
Mowbray may well have found that special ingredient whereby there could be a lot of humble pie baked for some to consume? BTW, it’s best eaten hot. I’ll scoff my slice re. Ameobi, right now. I suspect the queue for the plates could grow as the run-in gathers pace. I wonder if the snipers will be as honest?
Well done Boro, and now for another massive game @Huddersfield on Tues.
COME ON BORO!!”
Is this the same Sammy?!

Comment #35Well done to Sammy today, did he get played up front ?
He’ll have to be consistent but with a good display and pal that’ll give him the confidence he needs.
Pards has the team playing well at te moment and he’s an ok manager but I don’t understand not putting in the subs earlier and why Jonas is always on from the start?
Anita can easily play the role Jonas does and he won’t lose the ball as much.
The manager can’t see it though,I don’t want him out I just want him to do better in those areas

Comment #37how anyone can blame Pardew today is beyond me…..
Today was the definition of unlucky. Pardew set them out ok, especially second half, we shut them down…and got unlucky.
They would have been beaten in the other 9 games out of the 10.

He got started left mid in a 4-4-2 formation. From what I seen on the Football League Show, he seemed to play canny. Borough fans are going nuts about him though, think he’s amazing.
I agree on that this loan may save his career, as before he’d do something amazing then something pathetically stupid the next game. I for one think he won’t make it at this club, although saying as his last name is Ameobi it’s a possibility just for that.
I really hope he proves me wrong, as if he can become consistent with these glimpses of sheer quality… He’ll be one hell of a player.

Comment #39toonking @36 he ( pards ) never played his subs when he should have. brin gi ng them on in 89th min was a total waste of time. when our strikers only made their goal keeper make one save, that should have been the signal to change it – he didnt- settling for a point- we lost . not the first time and it wont be the last. this is pardews football , its here for the next 7 years. now thats something to look forward to isint it???

Comment #40How depressing to see Routledge skin our defence to set up the goal to seal a performance that P ardew could never extract from him.
Swansea are playing the modern game with inferior players to us but with a far better system and consistent game plan.
Would love Laudrup to coach our squad.
