Newcastle will be bringing in a number of players for the Development squad this summer, and one player we have been linked with is 20 year-old midfielder Giannelli Imbula.
Giannelli Imbula – 20 year-old defensive midfielder
Newcastle only need two or three senior players in the summer, to complete their squad, after bringing in five top French players in the January transfer, but we could see five or more young players joining the club this summer.
Imbula currently plays for French second division club Guingamp, which is based in Brittany and he says the reports about Newcastle being interested in him are probably just paper talk, and he still has a contract which runs through the summer of 2015.
This is what he told Sky Sports:
“I have a contract until 2015 so let’s see what will happen. Guingamp is my club and they will have their say.” “Newcastle are in the Premier League, you are talking about a big club, but nothing is done. It is only paper talk.”
Imbula was born in Vilvoorde, Belgium and he made his professional debut in Ligue 2 in October of 2009, and he is the youngest player in Ligue 2 history, having just turned 17 years old by just over a month.
Imbula is of Congolese descent and he also holds a Democratic Republic of Congo passport, as well as a European Union passport.
This lad seems to be a decent player who turned 20 last September, and the 6’1″ left footed defensive midfielder has also been linked with both Chelsea and Arsenal among other clubs, and he has already played 60 times with one goal for Guingamp.
We expect to see a number of these reports about younger players Newcastle may want to bring into the club this summer.
