Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player At Swansea?

5:18 pm, Saturday, March 2nd, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 52 Comments

Swansea City v Newcastle United - Premier League

Papiss Cisse – inaction at the Liberty Stadium today

Let us know who you think Newcastle’s best player was at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon in the 1-0 loss.

While Newcastle were second best in the first half,  we completely dominated the second half but missed too many chances,  and then Luke Moore with just four minutes to go got the ball in the penalty box with three Newcastle players around him, he somehow managed to put the ball into the back of the net.

Newcastle should have taken something out of this game with the chances we had in that second half,  when we looked a very good side  but now we are a full 10 points behind the Swans in the league table – and missed an opportunity today to make up ground.

We were well dominating the game
If pards had of brought on marv (and he went missing like he normally does) and we were still beat 1-0, everyone would be blaming pards for making a sub while we were playing so well
    He can’t win!
I personally wouldn’t of changed it cos I thought we were dominating them that much which many teams don’t do there

    No issue with today’s game.

We started sloppy and then came into the game. We dominated the second half and missed two good chances which could have won it.

Our finishing cost is today but equally their finishing kept us in it til then point when we had been sloppy.

Poor from every one involved for the goal and if you are sloppy in your own box eventually something goes against you which it did today.

Not a crucial defeat but a win would have been nice.

Overall a good display but couldn’t find the net. A much more positive defeat than we were suffering pre January.

    Debuchy!

  • 4 Mister Tuff // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:23 PM

    apologies repost.
We were outplayed today by a Cup winning class side, lets not forget they have just thrashed that other top class side Bradford City. Swansea are so classy they should be top of the league and so great they’ll probably win the Champions League in the near future, equally their top international players will be challenging for the Golden Boot this year, next year and so on. Really they are a great side. When the Toon sliced through them on numerous occasions and failed to score because of shocking finishing -this should never ever be considered as part of the game as Swansea were so good, they were great.
Now the reality check -there are complete and utter tools on here that honestly believe that sh**e I have just written above. Blind tools who know nowt about football.
The correct match analysis is that we should have won but for bad finishing -and I’ll say this for this first time ever -Cisse needs a couple of games on the bench.

monk. he tried to give us some good through balls

  • 6 Cisse09 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:25 PM

Mister tuff.. Gouffran upfront?? Marv and arfa on wings??…

  • 7 check the toastie // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:26 PM

Thought Debuchy and Sissoko were best, thought we played pretty well for the most part, we certainly seem to be going in the right direction.

Anita should be given a go instead of Tiote, for me he offers more.

  • 8 Dennis Twice // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:26 PM

    40pts o My Pad!!!

  • 9 Dennis Twice // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:27 PM

Anita Marv 65 out Jonas, Tiote

  • 10 northernirishtoon // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:28 PM

    Mister tuff

Swansea could of had a goal themselves in the first half and they had a great chance n the second half

Thought it was a good game and thought we played decent

Unlucky to lose but still plenty of positives in the game

  • 11 toon252 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:28 PM

    @northernirishtoon

They had more possession than us! You’re previous comment is fiction –

    Swansea 57%
    Newcastle 43% – BBC website

What you’re syaing is we shouldn;’t make changes – What’s the point in having subs then?

I know we’ll play well every game but not score and lose 1-0, don’t bring any subs on but atleast we are playing well..

Doesn’t matter how we play – it matters what the result was – WE LOST.. I’d rather play but manage to get the results

  • 12 manxpie // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:28 PM

wow check a well reasoned post i’m impressed lol
this is a great vid of sissoko if no ones seen it

  • 13 boater // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:29 PM

This new look defense was always going to creak at some point – but Tsunki’s right in saying the defeat was almost invited in and made a cup of tea.

People saying ‘Jonas off’ are very naive. He wasn’t the problem today – one touch, two touch here – just link the dots off the more creative players. Fine.

We had some nice midfield possession and created a few clear chances but I don’t buy the ‘unlucky’/shrug it off ticket. Winning is a combination of tactics and belief. Cisse’s performances have been detrimental to the whole team all season. I would have subbed him today to get some fire and focus into his mindset. Lack of confidence isn’t the issue as the way he lashes at chances is casually wasteful.

  • 14 El Tino // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:29 PM

Marveaux and Ben arfa in the same starting 11. Would love to see that…Will never happen under pards though

  • 15 TOONLOVER91 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:29 PM

gouff and taylor good games!santon needs to wake up,been very dodgy past few games!Loving how debuchy is really getting forward now, showing what he’s all about.Shame that at the moment Cisse needs several shots to put one goal away, should have hit the target with that volley!

  • 16 hugenufcfan // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:29 PM

We definitely didnt desrerve to loose.
Could pardew have done more. Of course yes. Instead of making a double sub with 1 minute to go he should have made the subs much earlier
look at laudrup, sub at 60, 75 and right after the goal brought a defender.
But nothing to panic. we’re in good shape. one hba comes back we’ll have more creativity.

  • 17 toon252 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:29 PM

    *I’d rather play rubbish

  • 18 Ketsbaia9 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:31 PM

Maybe Pardew should go if he keeps playing under-performers? He must be secretly having intercourse with Jonas. Tiote only gets in ahead of Anita because of his strength. Anita is a much better footballer.

  • 19 toon252 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:31 PM

    Boater –

Jonas is deployed as a winger – This season he has played 27 games – He has only scored 1 goal and has 0 assists – Yes 0 assists as a winger.

If you’re happy to have him play every game then you are crazy!

  • 20 lordy_geordie // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:32 PM

    @1

I AGREE, I only saw the 2nd half but for me we were so much better. If Pardew did subs and lost the game, the Pardew Slater’s would be calling him for his tactics.
He can’t win, it was bad defending that cost us but the chances we had and the pressure we were applying I have no issues with the game.

  • 21 Toon1978 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:32 PM

CIsse was a bag a shite today. Sissoko played well again. Two golden chances blown by Cisse and Goufrann. What a horrible season wenare having. A chance to pull away today.

  • 22 cockneymagpie90 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:32 PM

Incase anyone didnt notice WE DIDNT SCORE! We dominated the game and with marvo coming on that would of boosted us further but he was happy to carry on with the same team when we hadnt had a goal yet!

Cabaye and tiote both had yellows 1st half and carried on til the end. And guti that creates eff all was allowed to play 89 mins!

    Pardews a joke end of.

  • 23 roshan MAGPIE // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:32 PM

wow this blog is unbearable when we loose the game so many negative comments makes me sick

  • 24 L.ARAVIND // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:33 PM

REMEMBER CHRIS HUGHTON…..HE MADE US CLIMB TO THE TOP DIV LEAGUE AND AFTER FEW GAMES WE WERE IN THE MID TABLE THAT SEASON…AND FOR SOME WEIRD REASONS HE WAS SMACKED……BUT PARDEW IS SIMPLY ENJOYING HIS LIFE HERE…..MIKE ASHLEY AND PARDEW ARE TO BE GAY PARTNERS….AND MIKE WAS PRESENT TODAY..AFTER THIS LOSS HE WOULD STRAIGHT AWAY BE HEADING TO PARDEWS HOUSE TO LICK HIS ASS……………BRAVO!!!!!!!! – See more at: http://www.nufcblog.com/2013/03/02/yanga-mbiwa-gets-start-in-place-of-coloccini/comment-page-7/#comment-998733

  • 25 TheToonKing // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:34 PM

Ben Arfa…… can’t come soon enough. Would have wrecked Swansea with him. We almost did without, they got incredibly lucky. Next time.

  • 26 Mister Tuff // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:35 PM

cisse @6 – I really don’t know what is the answer after todays performance. It probably illustrates we need a couple of more signings. On another day the majority of our efforts would have been goals. It is clear the game was lost because of our poor finishing and not because Swansea are a great team. They play fancy dan football but rarely threatened.

  • 27 northernirishtoon // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:35 PM

    Toon252

Really surprised by those possession stats honestly thought we had more of the ball overall but hey

As far as the subs go, you don’t have to make subs just cos they are there!

But the point I was trying to make was even if he made a sub and we were still beat everyone would of blamed pards for making a sub when we were completely dominating

  • 28 Munster Mag // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:36 PM

ToonKing, but they had good chances in the first half which I heard they totally dominated. And should have had a peno? Are you wearing black and white glasses or maybe I’m being unfair?

  • 29 boater // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:38 PM

Toon252 – 4-3-3 doesn’t even incorporate wingers. Change Jonas for Marveaux if you like – there may even be a slight improvement but it will be nowhere near the miracle cure the bleating sheep are so convinced of. It won’t address the key issue as to where we’ve gone wrong all season.

  • 30 roshan MAGPIE // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:38 PM

we didn’t played poor our finishing was poor

  • 31 cockneymagpie90 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:38 PM

People saying that anita for tiote half time and marvo for guti around the 60th minute wouldnt of made a difference need to sort thier lives out.

U can dominate all u want but if u aint got a goal, THATS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

So if u have game changers like marvo why not use him early on and take it to swansea further and get a bloody goal that we deserved!

How can u say we played great?! In my eyes a team that plays great gets a couple goals as well as keeps possesion, pass the ball well etc.

    Deluded retards.

  • 32 Munster Mag // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:38 PM

NI Toon, thats probably very fair. Also, Swansea always dominate the possession stats so not much point reading into that.I think Cisse is under severe pressure. He may not be a good player to lead the ine – may need to play in a 4-4-2 ( but not with Ba! ) . Did he lead the line in a 4-5-1 in Germany? I dont think so but am not sure.

  • 33 toonarmydownsouth // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:38 PM

Unfortunately we got the result we deserved today, not saying we played worse than them but when you squander chance after chance after chance then the only people to shoulder the blame are the lads

Now I know goofy missed a good chance today, but I can kinda forgive him that, his first shot of the game first time shot and first time he’d managed to get central but still you have to test the keeper
But cisse, seriously wtf is wrong with this bloke? Wildly swings at everything has no composure, no vision, can’t play with his back to goal, can’t beat the offside trap, I’m mean is this the same player???
I said at the time I think Ba was getting unfair abuse of our fans for cisse sh1t form, and ppl kept saying cant wait to sell Ba then cisse will magically return to form, we’ll that was 2 and a half months ago and he looks worse every week
Just my opinion but we sold the wrong CF and Ba would be thriving in this set up

  • 34 manxpie // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:38 PM

whats with the marveaux love-in HE ONLY PLAYS WELL IN THE MIDDLE!!!!
would you replace sissoko? i wouldn’t he’s been our best player since his debut!

  • 35 Toon1978 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:39 PM

imo we lack a striker but that is it. No major investment needed at all. Pards lost the game because he waited to long to bring on players. Taking the p1ss bring on players with thirty seconds to go in normal time. Not a good show Pards, you are the weakest link today…..lol

  • 36 stuart no9 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:40 PM

how much longer do we have to put up with pardew and his tactics ? surely this has got to be his last season – surely

  • 37 Munster Mag // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:40 PM

I’ll say this for the umpteenth time. Sanom is not only a bad defender, but he’s a bad defender playing on his wromg foot. He will be a sub next year when Haidara takes over – especially in away games.

  • 38 Munster Mag // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:41 PM

TDS, we had no choice in the Ba sale.

  • 39 toonarmydownsouth // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:43 PM

    Manx
Wouldn’t replace anyone in the 11 with Marv, he’s been poor more than he’s been spectacular, can’t play as a winger and is too weak to play in the middle, when HBA comes back he’ll take the spot from jonas so who will the Marv lovers be calling to drop then?

  • 40 manxpie // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:43 PM

northernirish don’t listen to them possesion stats we had a hell of alot more possession in there box in the second half its just they passed round there back 4 more than us we deserved to win (from the BBC!! commentator)

  • 41 Tsunki // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:45 PM

Sorry for all the radio listeners but your impression that we were second best needs a look on tv as we were much better in possession, their stats come from their traditional pass it round the back stuff. We always looked a threat and just needed one of many chances to go in, they bundled one in and thats that. They are a decent but not fantastic side under Laudrup, but maybe we should have walked away with a win in fairness. I suggested Anita for Tiote because of his yellow and because Anita would have given us more zest in the middle without losing anything defensively, and eased the tired legs of a lot of the rest of the team as he runs about so much with the ball. With that, Marveaux could have come on to drag them back to their goal a bit more, could have worked with gouffran I think. Could even have subbed Cisse for Shola (I know I know) but Shola holds the ball well and lays off well too, good for Goofy and Socks to foil off I think, worth a try. In any case, their fresh legs versus our tailing off in concentration cost us, but by no means a disaster.

  • 42 mohtoolz // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:46 PM

I just want to ask everyone, what’s your measuring criteria? Really? We played good? compared to what? If Michael Laudrup had the team we have Swansea would of killed us today.

In my opinion Padrew is a poor manager for so many reasons.

As for people that blame players for missing chances… they are wrong. It is the managers job to pick the team based on player’s form. Even if Messi was playing like shit a good manager would drop him.

As for the last few games that we won.You know why we won? because we have Good players, individual skills. But we didn’t look like a good TEAM!!!

Anyways, I am sick of the way we play and sick of the wasted opportunities to accomplish something.

  • 43 cockneymagpie90 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:46 PM

If the team had proved it could score goals then maybe yea keep it the same, but we didnt so a change was needed! Its simple.

Do u really think marvo would of put us on the back foot and ruined our great pressure we had on them?

No! He would of pressed with the team that were already pressing and created for the front men. Its an abosolute joke.

Before anyone starts mourhin me off 1. Im intitled to my opinon and 2. I said at half time swap tiote for anita and half way through 2nd half when we were dominating the game bring on marvo but nothin happened and i was going mad with frustration.

So its not beacuse we lost im finding excuses, i saw the mistakes happen infront of my eyes and i didnt need a goal from swansea to tell me that.

  • 44 manxpie // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:50 PM

tads exactly we know guti is on borrowed time and maybe he does too it looks like santons next in line for the arse’s of this blog
i still think people forget he’s 21 tho he made a mistake 2day but so do lots of young players
also happy for sammi with his debut goal

  • 45 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:52 PM

    Oh my
Blame Pardew blame Ashley for the loss
Did they miss the chances we created
    No
Were they at fault for the goal
    NO
Played some excellent football second half – created chances but yo have to hit the target.
Their goal a defensive mix up and a deflected goal.
I would take the way we played second half every week – just a bit of composure in front of goal.

  • 46 lordy_geordie // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:53 PM

No one has mentioned cabs? i actually think his set pieces mostly corners have been below par of late. If we can start causing problems through set pieces it adds another threat to our Bow

  • 47 Ketsbaia9 // Mar 2, 2013 at 5:55 PM

Looks like Liverpool’s finally signed a decent player.

  • 48 ballerfan2 // Mar 2, 2013 at 6:32 PM

Interesting post fron Cockney Magpie who says he is entitled to his opinion but if anyone disagrees with it they are deluded morons. Hmmm

  • 49 ballerfan2 // Mar 2, 2013 at 6:36 PM

The fact is that if we had won 1-0 then no one would have blinked as we were so dominant in the second half. Incredibly over the top criticism of the players and management.

  • 50 ballerfan2 // Mar 2, 2013 at 6:44 PM

As predicted, the resident negs who have been bursting this week waiting for the opportunity (probably hoping for this result) are back in numbers taking to their keyboards to spout their drivel. The truth is that we are in the best shape we have been in years – and I am also entitled to my opinion.

  • 51 K T Cat // Mar 2, 2013 at 7:10 PM

I picked Tiote. He may not have been the best player in an absolute sense, but he’s stepped up his game more than anyone else. On the negative side, man, do we need Krul and Colo back or what?

  • 52 K T Cat // Mar 2, 2013 at 7:14 PM

I think the Jonas-Debuchy combo looks to work just like the old Jonas-Enrique combo did. I like it!

As for the Anita fans, geeze, give it a rest. He gets run over when he’s out there. He’s way too small. He can’t win headers and he can’t play a physical game. Ben Arfa is way more creative. Anita’s a good sub, but that’s about it.
