27 year-old Yohan Cabaye is of Vietnamese descent, and when he joined Newcastle in June of 2010 for €5M from then French Champions Little, he had never played for the full France team, although he had played 16 times for the French U21 side and had played in all the other French Youth sides.
Yohan Cabaye – will captain Newcastle tomorrow night in Moscow
But on August 5th of 2010, Cabaye was called up to the senior team for the first time by new manager Laurent Blanc, for the friendly against Norway on 11th August 2010, and Yohan made his senior international debut in that match, by coming on as a substitute for Yann M’Vila.
Since then while playing at Newcastle, he has picked up another 19 full caps and is now one of France’s best players, and he was one of their stars in the European Championships last summer.
So Yohan Cabaye is a great example to our other new five Frenchmen, who have all come to Newcastle to improve themselves as players, and certainly Moussa Sissoko already looks like a future star of the English Premier League, in his 7 appearances so far for the Magpies.
Yohan has been interviewed today in the Shields Gazette and this is what he had to say:
“We’re proud of the tricolor flags, but we don’t forget we’re playing for an English team.” “We’re fighting for Newcastle. For us, it’s very good to play for Newcastle.”
“They are coming with a good mentality and spirit.” “They want to improve, and they can play for the team.” “In France, they have spoken about their choice, and they have a big motivation at Newcastle.”
“They want to show everybody they didn’t make a mistake to come to Newcastle.” “I want to play in more European games – this is a big competition for us.” “We want to give 100 per cent in the Europa League.”
With Newcastle being in relegation trouble after we were beaten at home 2-1 by Reading on 19th January, some people in France questioned the wisdom of their players joining Newcastle, but there seemed to be little doubt with the five Frenchmen who joined Newcastle – four in the week following our hapless game against Reading.
Yanga-Mbiwa, Mathieu Debuchy, Moussa Sissoko, Massadio Haidara and Yoan Gouffran all joined Newcastle in January, and if they want to see what can happen to their careers on Tyneside – they need only look at what Yohan Cabaye has achieved at Newcastle in less than two years.
For the record Yohan has 60 appearances fro Newcastle with 10 goals and 10 assists – and he’s been an absolute stellar acquisition for Newcastle United.

Comment #81barkal – the difference is Liverpool would have gone there with an attitude to win the game.
If Pardew had to play that Liverpool team, he would have already wrote it off as a heavy defeat, blaming the lack of quality in his side.
The difference is in how you percieve the club you play for, Liverpool players think they are a Big Club and are constantly being told they are, as such they win trophies, we constantly are told we havent got a good enough squad to compete, and as such go out of competitions quickly and disappointingly.
No excuses Pards go to Moscow and get a couple of away goals instead of dropping off them, letting them play and crossing your fingers. blah blah blah.

Why not use Gouffran as our physio? He’s got pace and can run out and treat our players faster, saving us time when we are trying to mount a comeback 😀

It’s cause he’s running himself ragged tracking back and forth. He’s more involved in our attack and build up play that people think. Notice I said “involved” and not “effective”

Comment #84Norcal.. 🙂 Well worded. I actually really like Jonas and believe he brings a lot to the team that goes unnoticed. However, his days are numbered.

Comment #85I’d say so, Guti is a likable guy but he hasn’t kept the same standard that swayed us to buy him in the first place.
I couldn’t really see him being a rotation/sub here for very long either even if he’d be happy too. We’re trying to make room for the new guys.

Comment #86So, Pushy – what was that film adaptation of a Christie novel called again? The one with that bloke out of Gross Pointe Blank? Not the fat one. 😉
I agree that Cabaye is a great example. Now what? Oh yeah we will do well to get a nils each draw tomorrow.

Comment #87well tomorow I hope we could steal a win or draw.
If we lose hopefully 2-1 or 3-2, and then win at home 1-0 or 2-0.
good nite, guys.

Comment #88Cockney…of course I read what you posted. You said we should play Jonas at full-back…end of.
89norcal…good one. Also, if we could find out who all these gay footballers are, we could stick Cabaye next to them at corners to distract them, then we might get a bloody goal from one for a change.

Norcal…I guess we’ll see who arrives, but he’d make a really good rotation sub.

Surely he’s worth a punt on a free? I think this joke has run it’s course, saying that isn’t bramble a joke that just gets funnier and funnier?
So what is this about you writing for .co.uk? Without causing any upset, which articles are you responsible for? Just so I know which ones to go and criticise of course 😉

I’m not sure about Guti at full back but I would like to see Santon played in left midfield in a preseason friendly.

Comment #98Santon on ‘t wing? Hmm he’ a bit betwixt and between neither nowt nor summat fish nor fowl you get the idea with that…. If he can be trained to cross and develop that left foot and go to the byline then maybe, but why not finish his education as a LB?

Comment #101Ed, in responce to your previous post about Benny’ hamstring he would have been out 4 weeks probably in Pardew didn’t.
…it really should be common knowledge at this level. Sadly he’s not the only manager making these mistakes. Look at Ajax and Boilesen. He hasn’t really played for a year because he was rushed back.
I said this back in early December and are sticking to my guns 😀
So what’s new?

And if u read on ul find that i said id rather someone better playing LB obviously as i dont really rate guti in that position.
I was making a point about swapping santon and guti would of made the team more oganised and balanced, i also think more affective in my opinion.
Im not suggesting we play guti at LB cus hes our gidden gem!
Im saying that if pardew swapped them round these past two seasons (where we havent had the likes of debuchy, haidara or mbiwa to fill in) u might of seen more goals scored and less conceeded.
Get over urself u self-righteous prick.

Comment #105If you judge a player by Tackling, crossing, shooting and passing then old jonas, doesn’t come out looking to good or on the other hand if you judge a manager by how many clubs have sacked him or whether he has ever actually won anything of significance. Then old Pardew, doesn’t look any good either!

And in other news…
If you judge a poster by their general contribution to the blog then old Robin doesn’t come out looking too good.

It’s a shame about Guti as he seems very well liked by the fans and manager but if our five year plan is to be correctly implemented then there can be no room for sentiment.
