It’s Tough On Rob Because Fans Love Tim Krul

10:16 am, Sunday, March 10th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 11 Comments

First-choice goalkeeper Tim Krul continues to recover from the ankle injury he received late in the fantastic win against Metalist Kharkiv in the Ukraine,  and that has given back-up goalkeeper Rob Elliot a chance , and in the three games he’s played he’s done very well indeed.

Rob Elliot – has played very well for Magpies

Alan Pardew talked about his goalkeeper yesterday, and it seems the only thing holding him back earlier in his career was his confidence, and he’s got that  at Newcastle:

“It’s a tough agenda for him because Tim is a Dutch international and a great goalkeeper, and the fans love him here, so there’s always that pressure.” “But I never doubted his ability. The only problem Rob had when I first managed him was a lack of confidence.”

“But we pursued him because we knew that. After I left and goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman stayed there, he grew as a first-team goalkeeper and confidence was all the problem was. Now he’s got that.”

“He’s a great shot-stopper – he’s one of the best, trust me – and he’s finding a nice little niche here.”

We had noticed when Rob’s been interviewed he comes across as very modest, but still ambitious, and he’s doing a good job for Newcastle right now, and to be honest he’s always looked a good goalkeeper this season when between the sticks for Newcastle.

And we’re sure Alan Pardew is telling him that  he just needs to keep that up and be consistent, and we’ve noticed his concentration is excellent – which is a big thing for goalkeepers.

And finally let us know how you think the game will go today.

    Ffs Ed slow down man!!!!

Tbh mate Willo is a better distributor of the ball than krul, it’s his one huge flaw, you can even hear pardew screaming at him to just play it simple!!!
Elliott reminds a lot of perchinio, when we signed him it was hard to see why we bothered and where he’s fit in, and once again like perch he’s upped his game everytime he’s played and looks another great find by the club!

I think in all honesty we still need 3-4 players, we need a genuine winger, another CF, another CB when colo goes and possibly a young creative midfielder

    Check
Reckon we will hammer stoke today, bit worried benny boy will get a roughed up today though at least he has a bit of padding at the moment!

    Hatem

Take jonas out for tiote and you’ve got our strongest ten outfield players

Looking forward to seeing a combination of gouffran, sissoko and Ben Arfa at some point when Benny return. It would be nice to see It today even if its for the final 20 minutes. Expecting Debuchy, santon, Taylor, tiote, Jonas, cisse and gouffran back in the eleven after the European game. All should be relatively fresh.

    @tads
I agree that we need at least to replace Collo as we have some young lads coming through like Good and Tav
Some lads are getting football on loan that’ll help like Sammy,Fergie,Abeid and Inman
We need another striker without a doubt and a midfielder of quality I’m quite sure will be hunted
We will lose Simmo and we’ve got Rayls,Perchy,Anita and Santon can play there so I’d say we’ve got adequate back up for Debuchy and at LB

I think Elliot is a quicker goalkeeper than Tim, especially with that excellent throw out he has.
It reminds me of liverfool and Reiner ,we can make very good use of that for quick counters from corners and free kicks into our area.
Pards needs to leave one or two on the half way line to split their defence and have less players in our box to make it easier for Rob to collect then distribute the ball to either Benny or Gouffy.
    He’ll
