It’s a massive week ahead for Newcastle United coming up, and it starts this afternoon with a game at home against Stoke City, and we need a win in that game to move up the table, and make up for the unlucky loss at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea last week.
Alan Pardew – sans beard
But since that loss Newcastle have put in an outstanding performance in Moscow to hold Anzhi Makhachkala to a 0-0 draw, and the return leg is on Thursday night at home, and a win in that game will see us get through to the quarter finals of the Europa League.
And then after Thursday we are on the road to Wigan, where we never do very well, and Wigan may be getting some form for their annual escape from relegation as they walloped Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park to reach the FA Cup semi-finals, with all three goals coming within four minutes in the first half.
Alan Pardew has today called on his troops to deliver the goods, and obviously the best we could do would be three wins – and that’s not impossible.
This is what Alan told the Sunday Sun today when asked if a win today would ease the pressure on Newcastle in the league:
“I think it obviously would, it would give us a little bit of respite for Thursday as well.” “It’s a massive week for us. Ideally, if we can get four points out of this week and get through, that would be the ideal scenario.”
“I don’t care how it comes. That would more or less guarantee us staying in the Premier League and obviously going into the last eight of Europe would be a little feather in our cap.”
Today’s game could well be the easiest of the three upcoming games this week, and it would be an excellent start to get all three points in the bag and climb that league table.
