Rob Elliot is having a run in the Newcastle side with number one goalkeeper Tim Krul being out injured and he has talked to the Mirror today and he says he has to pinch himself to believe what’s happening at the moment at Newcastle.
Rob Elliot – playing well so far for Newcastle
The is what the 26 year-old Greenwich-born goalkeeper had to say:
“I have to pinch myself to believe.” “I’m now playing in the Premier League and Europa League. I’ve played in the lowest league in the non-league pyramid with Erith Town, when I was 17, and just worked my way up in stages.”
“The ambition to play in the Premier League has always been there. But having been where I have, I probably relish it more.” “Sometimes you look around and appreciate the things you get, like travelling on a plane to Russia and playing against Samuel Eto’o, who has probably won everything there is to win apart from the World Cup.”
“Now I just want to enjoy it. I don’t want any regrets. I want to come away and say I did everything I could.” “Of course I want to be No.1 some day. Any player at any club should aspire to be the best in his position.
“I’ve always enjoyed having a challenge, it’s helped me to become a better keeper.”
Elliot’s form for Newcastle recently has him linked with a possible call-up for the full Ireland squad, and with Shay Given having retired from International football, we see no reason why Rob shouldn’t get an Ireland call-up.
Rob was called up for the Ireland U19 side, but he’s hardly thinking about an International call-up at the moment, and this is what he had to say about that:
“It is far too early to talk about stuff like that.”
Those are all good words from Rob, and he should just concentrate on playing well for Newcastle, and you never know where he may end up, and certainly he’s played very well for the Magpies so far, since Tim has been out injured.

Comment #4Can’t really remember him putting a foot wrong, most our goals conceded with him have been defensive errors.
He’s a very solid keeper, wouldn’t be surprised if someone shows interest in him like with Forster.
