Yohan Cabaye after scoring Newcastle equalizer
Newcastle came back form being behind by a penalty goal from Walters after 67 minutes to win the game with goals from Yohan Cabaye and Papiss Cisse, with Cisse’s winner coming in the second minute of added time.
As we’ve said before this new Newcastle side never know when they are beaten – and it’s a fantastic result and puts Newcastle into 13th place in the table, moving above Sunderland and Norwich City.
Let us know who you think was the best player against Stoke City today.

I still don’t understand why tiote did that? even no contact, the striker will dive and the reff will give penalty, especially with his reputation.
How stupid can he be?

Sell tiote in the summer. Thanks. We don’t need liabilities.

Santon
Tiote is and always has been reckless so nothing knew, doesn’t assess a situation well.
Good game overall, played below par but ground out a result. Can’t play well every week so good fight and determination shown
5 Ben_BKK // Mar 10, 2013 at 5:06 PM
There wasn’t really a stand out player for us today. Cabaye’s goal was top class but his set pieces were poor all day and he didn’t contribute a whole lot else. Sissoko had his usual driving runs but then nothing at the end of them. Cisse offered absolutely nothing apart from his winner.
I went for Stevie Taylor, was solid all day and I loved his celebrating in Begovic’s face after his antics before the free kick

@Roshan
I want him to actually create something… Not run around for 92 minutes losing posession. But I’m not gonna call you a fool if you enjoy watching headless chickens run around on the pitch.
Apart from his goal, did he have any other shot? I doubt it.

I dont understand how cabaye’s long range passes and direct free kicks are great but his corners seem aweful. Perhaps it’s the movement in the box.

Haven’t been able to watch the match as I’m at work, but ive been checking the comments from time to time, I have a lot of sympathy for people who can’t make the games for geographical reasons, but those of you sitting in Tyneside spouting your bile on here should be ashamed of your selves while there’s 1500 seats spare in the ground.

Can’t say I thought it was a game tbh, great 3 points but were the polar opposite from the start of the season! At the start of the season we were playing well upfront but were a shambles at the back, now were pretty solid at the back but a shambles up front!

Really good result, deserved to win. Thought Tiote was playing as well as he had in a while until he had a Titus Bramble moment.
Other than the goal I thought Cabaye wasn’t great. Was a frustrating game but we showed that important fight again.

Ba on the other hand was both.
Thats what we miss a striker that can create something from nothing.
31 Londtoon // Mar 10, 2013 at 5:15 PM
To those who say Pardews tactics are terrible. I thought all three subs today were perfect. Haidara is a better defender than Santon and surprisingly is better going forward on the wing (with the exception of Santon’s shooting which is usually pretty good).
I actually thought Tiote wasn’t playing too badly apart from the penalty, but to take him off for Marveaux and give us some much needed flair was spot on. And to give Campbell a run finally. Good on the lad.
Great win. And based on the last 6 games we are better than all teams outside of the top 5. Good run we are on.
Btw.. Gouffran really needed to put that 1st half chance away, but I do like the lad

35 santonthenewmaldini // Mar 10, 2013 at 5:18 PM
I voted Mbiwa felt he would get properly tested today against Stoke but dealt with everything and got a few attacks going for us
Totally dominated them from start to finish but it could have been so much easier if we were not so negative from the start there is no need to play Tiote and Jonas in the same team with Cabaye at the back when at home against a team in possession as poor as Stoke
When Marveux came on we created space as him in the middle offers movement and quality on the ball and allows Sissoko to get on his bike more as well
Tiote gets a lot of the ball infact probably more than Cabaye and does nothing with it sick of seeing him try these hollywood passes that go to no one!!
So glad for Cisse to score today as he ran his socks off without getting any service and the 1st actual chance he gets in the game he finishes it cant really ask for more than that !
We did look a bit leggy today Gouffran looked a bit jaded as did Santon he looks shattered might be time to take him off for a game or 2 or play him on the wing
We need to get used to playing against teams that will park the bus as Sunderland will play exactly like that and so will Fulham but both of them will probably be nastier
36 TOONLOVER91 // Mar 10, 2013 at 5:19 PM

Happy days, I was worried when Tiote gifted them the lead but fair play the manager and players stuck at it and got a result. Well done to the next AC to play upfront. He might not of been on the pitch all that long but nice to see get some game time after all his hard work in training/reserves.

40 Carryingcoals // Mar 10, 2013 at 5:19 PM
Not going to get dragged too much in to the match day debate but I agree with…… kets!
In all seriousness, Marveaux was the best player. Yes he hardly saw the ball and hardly feature, but my word… what a bold and brave ball that was. He has four assists this season, TWICE as many as any other Newcastle player. He did what we couldn’t do for 90 minutes – unlock their defence. I couldn’t believe Cisse was onside too, what a cool, cool finish.
Marveaux the difference, without him we are 2 points worse off.
41 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Mar 10, 2013 at 5:21 PM
Londtoon…I don’t nessesaraly think everyone thinks his tactics are terrible, but when we are trying the same thing over and over again without bearing fruit you need to change your game plan.
…about subs. Pards introduced the right players, but he needs to learn to use subs tactically and proactive instead of reactive. His subs came after we went one down didn’t they?
Good result for us (not a great game by far), but we need the points and the confidence. I am happy

We played well but our final ball was missing. I read on here the other day people condemning Marveaux! FFS some people on here have absolutely no idea about football, and their own passion for NUFC is to slate players (mainly the same players i.e. their pet hates) week in week out. Willing to slate players but never give them credit. TADS you know who these posters are. I got no problem with people having a whinge but some peeps go way too far. Probably why I post a lot less these days and especially on match days!

Now to get ahead of the other 33 pointers and try to bridge the gap with next bunch of clubs. Probably left it too late this season but 9th would be okay with a cup.
Marv offers much more over 20 minutes than he does over 90 so maybe he’s our new impact sub

would love to see campbell given a start in the league once we are safe, also really like the unit of debuchy saylor mbiwa haidara at the back, it looks so solid, like a top top defence.
i dont see santon tiote or guttierez being pushed out of the team though
and i honestly believe elliot could be a better match goalkeeper than krul. sure krul has better reflexes, but elliot is commanding and his distribution is second to none. feel confident when hes in goal
my team for rest of season
elliot
debuchy taylor mbiwa haidara
anita sissoko cabaye
ben arfa
cisse gouffran
with marv campbell santon coming on as attacking subs or gutti bigi perch as defensive
59 JP...from The Rock // Mar 10, 2013 at 5:28 PM
Fantastic result
Although our final balls were again very poor we managed to come from behind and win the match! I thought Cisse’s last minute clincher was offside but thank God he wasn’t and the linesman thought the same. 2-1 and now 9 points away from the drop zone good times
I was getting really annoyed and frustrated towards the end of the match as once again the points were there for the taking as we were dominating. The last thing I wanted was a repeat of Swansea so I am chuffed we nicked the win at the death for a change
HWTL
Ps. Credit to Pardew for bringing on Campbell and all the subs were brilliant and at the right time, it helped us win.

Tiote had a good game before diving in,what a knob.
Cabaye’s passing was top notch today but free kicks n corners were poor up to the top class finish.
Cisse actually controlled the pass from Marveau well which he usually gets wrong, typical goal scorer though -right place right time, good finish.
Nice to see Campbell on for a run and he looked lively and composed.
Jonas did well today….shocked.
Tayls and Mbiwa did well and Debuchy was great on his runs, caught far up the pitch for the peno decision although it was very unessessary for Tiote to dive in.
Sissoko and Gouffran had some great runs today but shoulda scored
63 manxpie // Mar 10, 2013 at 5:31 PM

64 santonthenewmaldini // Mar 10, 2013 at 5:31 PM
Also it was good that Campbell came on he looked a total midget compared to Shawcross but he had some nice flicks and won a corner at the end I think Pardew will start giving him the last 10 minutes of most games
Wigan will be difficult away but if we can get a win on Thursday I think we can go and beat them Tiote needs to go on the bench for the next couple of games as we need players who do more than just tackle Anita and Marveux in the middle do so much more if we play JOnas, Cabaye and Sissoko they will provide the steel we need we need to have a bit more skill
Loving Chelsea struggling though defensively they are a shambles ha ha

67 Mister Tuff // Mar 10, 2013 at 5:33 PM
We were very lucky today, very lucky indeed -in the end massive three points. Marveaux’s pass broke the stalemate -he had confidence to hold the ball -went one way and then the other and threaded Cisse the pass.
For the penalty -clearly the ball watchers on here fail to acknowledge that when Walters broke – everybody was missing in action apart from Tiote who ran back.
Apart from that the match day nutters and loonies who appear wanting to pick a row by issuing calls of where are the neggars ( do not use the word myself), where are the Pardew haters, where are the Cisse haters are complete knobbers and bell ends. Something to do with porcine excrement and brain power comes to mind.

71 beefman13 // Mar 10, 2013 at 5:34 PM
Three points, this was vital, did we use the get out of jail card, of coarse we did, cisse a goalscorer and came up with the goods at the end with a magic ball from marv, who along with campbell should have been on at least 10 mins before they got on. Young campbells movement is awesome. Different class than shola, still dont know why we float balls in the box when they have three 8 foot defenders, sirely it has got to be looked at.
Creative players at home have got to be the order of the day.
