It was a late goal from Papiss Cisse that gave Newcastle a deserved win yesterday, against a very decent looking Stoke City side, but he was set up brilliantly by Sylvain Marveaux, who is now pushing for a starting place at Newcastle.
Sylvain Marveaux – superb match-winning pass yesterday
For last season Sylvain Marveaux was affected by injury, as he was in his last season at Rennes, before joining Newcastle in June of 2011, one day after Demba Ba signed on at the club.
But this season he has finally been free of injury, and has played 29 times for Newcastle this term with two goals, and has been playing extremely well.
And his pass in added time at St. James’ Park was simply superb, and found Papiss Cisse completely free in the box and Papiss was a yard onside when the pass was made.
And the Senegal striker coolly controlled the ball and then smashed it home past goalkeeper Begavic, and the game was won.
And it was 18 year-old local lad Adam Campbell who fed Sylvain with the ball before the defense splitting pass from the French U21 International won the game for Newcastle.
“In the end it was a pass through the eye of a needle by Marveaux that won us the match.{ “The team’s done well in Marveaux’s absence and he’s knocking on the door, he sparked us in that last bit and it was massive.”
Marveaux is not as good as Ben Arfa, but when Ben Arfa cannot play, it seems that Marveaux can provide us with that bit of spark, that bit of creativity that can win us the game, as he proved so well yesterday.
26 year-old Sylvain is yet another Frenchman who could have a big career ahead of him on Tyneside.

The problem for me is just plain p1ss poor delivery, would like us to try a short one and use it to cross from the edge of the box, I mean how many corners has cabs had this season where it actually went out of play before even making the box!
We also never seem to be first to any loose balls on the edge of and in the box so maybe it’s down to positioning? Either way it needs improving as it always leaves us vulnerable to the counter attack

Spot on mate, actually thought jonas had a decent game mate even got off a couple of decent shots

It’s the way he gave that penalty that annoyed me, with flying 2 footed tackle inside the box.

Comment #43Even the most charitable could make little of Pulis comments. Stoke and their stop us from playing approach made for an ugly game. They got lucky through a moment of madness from Chiek. Good to see Pardew not being intimidated by Stoke’s touch line antics. Class will out and Marveaux showed in a more central role has a lot to offer. You only needed to see the exchanges between Cabaye and him at final whistle to recognise craftsmen at work. The cream rose to the top although I did think Shawcross matched Taylor for a future England berth. Better times ahead as we rise to level on points with the tenth club. I have learnt not to dwell too long in these blog shark invested waters but maybe we’ve seen the last of the Raj. From a purely personal view JFA/Raj and Mr Tuff would have done well to heed the old Chinese saying “Before you proceed on revenge ( or just paranoia)
Dig two graves”. Just look at the quality of blog input and debate which has fast diminished. Transfer made a very valid point in terms of the havoc you and others have wreaked and those that have left. I recall as a reader keeping abreast of the toon whilst away at uni. Just get a grip you know it makes sense.

Lol true if we don’t expect to score then it’s all good!!
Totally get where your coming from with marv when he starts he doesn’t graft, some players are simply good to have as an impact sub there’s nothing wrong with that they have a role to play just depends if they are happy or want to move on

Have said all season we’ve missed Ryan Taylor he’s a good pro to bring on when were struggling to get in that killer final ball

“He just needs to cut it out his game” and what not… We’ve been saying that same thing for the past two years!! and he has not changed. He is a liability in the challenge and always will be. That’s all there is too it.
He has had enough time to learn how to tackle and not be a liability. Heck it only took Perch a season to realize that getting too many yellows is a bad thing.
We have Perch and Anita who can and Have put in good shifts in that position in a consistent basis when called upon, and we have young Bigi who has also performed well in that position. If you combine the three of them together, I doubt they would have that much more yellows then Tiote does by himself.
Bottom line. We do not need liabilities at the club. Tiote has to go.

That’s probably because jonas plays on the wing and Marv plays CAM do you not think
All his assists have come from him playing in CAM he done nout on the wing

That was 10 seconds out of a 90 minute performance which was all round very good imo. As for the Raylor set piece comment he’d have to be in the team to make a difference surely? I dont see that happening regardless of his fitness

Haha exactly mate when we get set peices I nip to the loo or get another drink…its like a time out really 😉
Aye I agree mate time will tell if Marv is happy to be a impact sub but something tells me he’ll not be

I hope he won’t be sold, he always whipped in good crosses with pace.

Yes, Perch has become excellent player. He made excellent tackles and good yellow cards. That’s why he got England call up even if as benchwarmer.

Maybe you have a vested interest. For me that was his poorest game of the season. His defending was hesitant and uncertain and his delivery going forward wayward.

Comment #55Yohan’s goal was absolute class.
Not only got us back in the game, but gave us the encouragement we needed to keep pushing.
Cisse, I think, likes to play football and is open to being bullied. PL refs accept that as being part and parcel of the PL and Cisse has to do the same.

Comment #56Corners annoy me for us. Read a stat only 3.5% result in a goal but in our run of not scoring from 300/400 we should have around 10-12 goals really.
Height isn’t everything either as evra has a couple of goals this year.
We just need to whip the ball consistently into a dangerous area at pace and have people move and attack the ball. Nothing too fancy, just do te basics well and you get goals.

Comment #59I didn’t actually think cheick did to badly yesterday, up until he gave away that silly penalty, he was working hard breaking up play winning tackles and passing well (into sissoko for his 1 on 1 for example)
Hopefully it wont knock his confidence again as he looked like he was getting it back. I wonder how many were calling for pards head when he gave it away no doubt cheicks indiscipline was to blame on pards as well 😉

Pace and someone like Vertonghen! The delivery into the box can be vastly improved. The stats showed dominance in terms of first half corners all wasted.

This is all I can find about his international career.

In October 2012, he was approached by the Jamaica Football Federation, the JFF want Perch to play for Jamaica during their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.[6]”

Marveaux will never score 30 goals and have 60 assists, may well be responsible for 60 goals against by not tracking back, Granted a great assist yesterday, he is no more than an impact sub and then only as CM.

Comment #68Ibiza…I think there are alot of improvement to be made.
…we look unbelieveble lackluster in front the goal and to be honest we don’t create much.
I am demand alot from people around me and NUFC is no different. We don’t get better if we don’t improve.
And we are just making the same mistakes over and over again. I want to see improvement on APs part.

Comment #72Yo…It’s like they’re knew to the blog or something?!? No arguments on the blog…pathetic.
Jesper…I don’t think anyone will argue that there aren’t any improvements to be made, but for me it’s step by step.
I did find it frustrating at times that the players went for the long ball or cross, as this is probably the weakest aspect of our game and the strongest part of Stokes. The two goals we got were from us playing our passing game, but then we come back to who is making the decision to pump it in, the manager or players?
They did both throughout the game, so I’m at a loss to know who, where or why. I would imagine responsibility lies between Pardew (and his coaches) and the players.
Anyway, we won and I believe deservedly so.
Anyway, here’s an extract from some text messages between myself and a stoke supporting decorator I know 🙂
“Good morning, have the specification through. Are you available lunchtime to discuss? I promise no mention of football”
“Morning mate, yeah no problem. I know nothing about football, I’m a Stoke city supporter”
