Pardew – It’s Quite Simple – We Need To Win

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has been clear in saying he wants Newcastle to go all out to win the Europa League, and that starts tomorrow night when we’ll be trying to beat Russian side Anzhi, and if we can do that,  it will take Newcastle through to the last eight of the competition.

We don’t have to remind our fans that we haven’t won anything since we won the Inter-City Fairs Cup back in 1969, that’s 44 years ago (ouch!), and the Europa League is today’s equivalent of that competition, although it has been expanded greatly since 1969.

This is what Alan Pardew said today:

“We are in it to win it. There’s no point saying to me, ‘Would the quarter-finals be a great achievement for you in your managerial career?””It would be something I could put on my CV, but it wouldn’t really mean much to me unless I win the trophy.”

“I have been to the FA Cup final twice and lost twice, and I see this competition as a higher standard of competition. “But I want to win and this club wants to win trophies, so we have a big agenda in front of us.”

“There are some very, very good teams in this tournament and we are really looking forward to tomorrow’s game.” “The standard will go up again in the next round.” “Either of these teams going through out of this particular tie will have a chance of winning it, I have no doubt about that.”

‘It’s quite simple: we need to win. If you are going to go through in a tie, you want to win. You don’t want to win on away goals, you have got to win the game.”

With the great win on Sunday, and Newcastle winning four of their last six league games and getting through to the last 16 of the Europa League, all since our five new Frenchmen arrived in January, the confidence in the Newcastle camp is sky high at the moment.

It’s going to be a big game for Newcastle tomorrow night, and the hope is we’ll get a great turnout from the fans to cheer the lads on – and hopefully to victory and the quarter finals of the Europa League.

In short – that would be simply fantastic.

Of course we can win it, unlikely but we can.

We matched spurs away from home and only lost due than error by our defence after we lost gouffran who was doing a cracking job pushing them back.

We also beat spurs at home so we are a good team.

Spurs stuffed inter who are deemed to be one of the favourites.

The other favourites, Chelsea were beaten by us a few weeks ago too.

Not saying we will win but teams will fear is as much as we fear them.

Should be a good game, Cisse’s goals wont be disallowed this time! Think his name’s Elliot not eliote.
