The news coming out of Alan Pardew’s press conference this afternoon for the Wigan game, about Ben Arfa being out for the season and needing surgery, overshadowed some good news Alan had delivered on Yohan Cabaye, before he talked about Ben Arfa.
Yohan Cabaye – half chance of playing on Sunday
And when asked about the Newcastle vice-captain, this is what Alan had to say:
“Cabaye – good news really. I think he has a half chance for Sunday, He has the Internationals next week for France, so he’ll need to be available for Sunday to get there and I’m sure he wants to.”
And during the press conference, video was shown of the lads gathering to watch the draw on TV this morning at about 11:30 am, and Yohan was moving around very freely – no limping or anything like that.
But we assume he’ll not play if he isn’t fit, and if he’s not fit he shouldn’t go to play for France in the Internationals,. And with Cabaye only playing for 37 minutes on Thursday night, then he will be fairly fresh for the Wigan game.
We need to beat Wigan, and with our success over the last two or three games, we hope the lads will not take Wigan lightly, because they played one of their best game of the season last time out at Everton.
They were the better team at Goodison and won the FA Cup quarter-final 3-0, with all goals coming in a four minute period in that first half.
And it’s that time of year when they make their annual escape from relegation, and in any case they hammered us 4-0 in this fixture last April, and broke a six game winning streak in the league.
We need a win on Sunday.

Reading between the lines. Cabaye will be rested and won’t play for France.

bollance was thinking exactly the same, which is no bad thing tbh

Alan
Last thing we need is to tire him out to the point he injures himself and misses the rest of the season.
Against poorer teams in the prem cabaye is very effective. the reason he is especially good is because he is able to pick out players in space or with grass to run into. Against top teams this space or opportunity is limited.
Overall in my opinion our best player, most influential and captain next year.

I think he will play … we need him … if we win this game … we would send wigan down and probably guarantee our safety

Just realised. Probably Wigan will be in Europe next season.
They will beat millwall in cup and the team they play in the final will be in Europe already. That is right?
Wigan
Swansea
… Us (for winning europa)

Realistically we won’t even get to final but it if we defied all odds and won it then it would knock a big team in the league out of Europe like what Chelsea did to spurs.

I know winners of the CL get a place in the CL the following year regardless of their league position.
Does the same apply to the Europa Cup?
I suspect not- but I don’t know.
Anyone know for sure?
10 tweaked // Mar 16, 2013 at 4:45 AM
Yes the winner of Europa is auto seeded I think, and also get to play the euro super cup

Good morning lads
How about “Etienne Capoue” Will he be a good recruitment for us and is he better than C.Tiote?

Think Cabye will be on the bench & only used if really necessary , hopefully back for the Mackums, game dont think he’s been 100% all season to be honest,
14 Owldman // Mar 16, 2013 at 6:10 AM
& 11 Dont think we’ll get tonked but could be dangerous opponent’s always seem to give us a good game, but we’ve got a lot better team than when we played them earlier in the season, anyone know what the parking is like at Wigan
15 Owldman // Mar 16, 2013 at 6:15 AM
Would be absolutely fabulous if we did win it & stop Livershite qualifying for Europe. They did it to Everton when the rules had to be changed to allow Liverpool to compete in the Champions League
16 toonincheek // Mar 16, 2013 at 6:26 AM
I think Wigan will be more up for it than us, mentally,
seeing as they are really facing relegation.
17 Graeme // Mar 16, 2013 at 6:54 AM
For some reason, Wigan are always up for a game against us – wouldn’t have anything to do with our Illustrious Owner just about closing Whelan’s sports company down and then buying half is shops would it lol

Ed,
Or anyone else who might know, are the Europa final tickets already sold out? Don’t want to jinx this, but was just checking the possibility, and it seems that UEFA have closed sales to the public as early as January. I have found sites selling those tickets, but at extortionate prices, beginning at $360. Any idea? Will the teams making the final have allocated tickets for sale?

it will be a hard hard game, it looked difficult at St James, until they had a man sent off. I will be over the moon with any sort of result,
As for Cabaye, I would rather he did not play on Sunday for us or France, and get fit and rested for Man C

Reading between the lines Cabs need surgery
…out all season!
21 Novocastrian66 // Mar 16, 2013 at 7:44 AM
Cyprus. The finalists get 10000 tickets each.

Newcastle will need to Beat Wigan so that I can sleep at night, i still fear we can get dragged into this relegation scrap again. Cabaye needs to be rested. Two games in one week is too much for him now. Anita is good cover.
24 Marty-Toon // Mar 16, 2013 at 8:38 AM
Wigan will be tough as they’ve a lot of energy and keep the ball pretty well.
Cabaye shouldn’t be used from the start, bring him on at 55/60 mins when they’re also a lill tired.
We will have Gouffran and Debuchy fresh which will help and we’ve got Simmo if we need at RB and could have Debuchy on RW which I get is strange but I’d rather anyone than Obertan gettin on the pitch at RW or LW
Anita RW with Marveau central behing Cisse with Sissoko dropping back with Perch/ Tiote alongside
25 toonincheek // Mar 16, 2013 at 8:39 AM
Agree – Cabaye needs to be rested.
26 cyprus // Mar 16, 2013 at 8:45 AM
ThanksNovocastrian66. I’m guessing season ticket holders have priority.
27 cyprus // Mar 16, 2013 at 8:53 AM
On the game, would take a draw, given their last showing, traditional run-in form, motivation and wily coach. However, if we play for a draw we’ll lose, so there you go. I’d play Anita instead of the injured Cabaye.
28 JAMSHA // Mar 16, 2013 at 8:54 AM
its better we dnt risk him
29 Graeme // Mar 16, 2013 at 9:05 AM
Cyprus, UEFA put the tickets on sale on 17th December and anyone could apply for them, which I did. They advised on 30th January that I had been allocated 2 tickets.
Just hope the toon make it to the game!!
