Newcastle’s Dutch midfielder Vurnon Anita is hoping for a return trip to his home city of Amsterdam in a couple of months, when the final of the Europa League swill take place.
Vurnon Anita – hopes to play in Amsterdam in May
Vurnon San Benito Anita was born in Willemstad, in the Netherlands Antilles, but moved to Amsterdam with his family when he was eight years old in 1997, and he joined the famous Ajax Youth Academy two years later.
And with Newcastle now playing well – we have won six and drawn two of our last ten games in all competitions – there’s a decent possibility that the Magpies can make it though to the final of the Europa League.
Vurnon certainly hopes so, as he had this to say in the Sunday Mirror today:
“It would be great to get to the final, but we must take it step by step. It would be very nice if we make it and I get the chance to go home.” “Everything is positive now and we’re happy with that. We deserve that because we’ve worked hard.”
Newcastle have drawn Benfica in the quarter finals, and they are currently top of the Portuguese league, but they are no better than the last two sides Newcastle have eliminated from the Europa League by combined scores of 1-0 – Metalist Kharkiv of the Ukraine and Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.
But it will still be a tough tie to negotiate for Newcastle United – there’s little doubt about that..
Anita is getting used to the extra pace in the Premier League in his first season on Tyneside, and he has so far made 31 appearances for the Magpies with one great goal.
A win today at the DW Stadium against Wigan could see Newcastle climb as high as 10th in the league table, but Wigan are hitting good form at the right time, and it will be a difficult game for the lads today.
