Forgotten Man Could Now Play Role For Magpies

1:16 pm, Monday, March 18th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 13 Comments

With both Mathieu Debuchy and Massadio Haidara injured in yesterday’s game, and Massadio likely to be out a while with a serious injury, that puts some pressure on the Newcastle full back positions.

Danny Simpson – could still do a job for Newcastle

The good news, if that’s the right way to put it, is that Newcastle still have good cover at full-back and James Perch can do a good job at right back – or left back for that matter, and of course Vurnon Anita also played a season at left back for Ajax and he can also be effective there.

And we cannot forget Danny Simpson, who has gone down the pecking order at Newcastle, with Danny’s future not being at Newcastle, and he will be leaving as a free agent in the summer.

But Danny came in for a couple of our European ties recently, and played extremely well, and of course he’s also an experienced Premier League player and it is now likely he will get some playing time when the football resumes again in two weeks time, following the International break.

Danny can still do a job for Newcastle – and that’s what he’s paid to do (still) – and it will also be in Danny’s best interests too, as he tries to attract some London clubs that could sign him in the summer.

Fulham is one of those clubs, and Danny may yet prove valuable to Newcastle in the final couple of months of this season.

And the two injuries picked up yesterday also will beg the question about how is our captain Fab Coloccini is doing with his back injury – because if he can come back, Newcastle have the option of playing Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa at right back too.

For the record Danny Simpson has played 133 times for Newcastle with two goals since joining us back in the summer of 2009.

We are still waiting to hear just how bad Massadio’s injury is – with no information word yet on the Newcastle web-site.

Transfer sage…. With Tiote losing the ball almost everytime right in front of the defenders, we had no choice but to sit back. He almost gifted them a goal more than once. We definitely have more pace at the back now that williamson has disappeared off the face of the planet. Gouffran and Sissoko do press in the middle but Tiote has been left in no mans land in the last 3 or 4 games. Perch should be in before Tiote for the next 3 or 4 games. There’s nothing fancy about Perch but i have really took a liken to that guy recently. He is probably one of our most improved players compared to when he first signed. He would’ve scored if Cisse didn’t nick it, he looked sick and read his lips in action replay “it was mine”.

Glad we didn’t let Simpson leave in January now, good squad player….

Can’t believe we never get a break from injuries…..just got to pray Saylor doesn’t pick up an injury during the run in…..

I believe it will be Ryan Taylor who steps up, as he is now fit.

Williamsonsuks Totally agree with your views on Perch I think his distribution is very good compared to Tiotte.
He is vastly underrated in midfield role.

You miss the point completely. Wigan play great football but have no resources. I am saying Martinez is a more attack minded manger than Pardew, but then who isn’t and if he was given funds I don’t think he would be struggling for survival every season. Martinez is basically doing with Wigan what Pardew couldn’t manage for Charlton.

Danny will do a great job for us and he is getting paid so he should play. Its a joke what is coming out of the DW stadium at the moment, did they really see the same incident?

Shot Bru – With Williamson seemingly having been put out to grass as not good enough for this team (at last!), an injury to Steven Taylor is the very last thing we need.
Re Simpson – have no worries about him doing a professional job there.
Have to say I thought Santon was excellent in a more forward role in the latter part of the second half yesterday. Think he could get more goals like the one he scored. Would much prefer him to Obertan or Jonas on the wing.

bzak… I’d like to think all toon fans see him in that light. He hardly ever loses the ball and when he does he usually wins it bak. Tiote looks confused with the ball at his feet. He doesn’t look up and 9 out of 10 times just gets rid of it to the nearest man usually bak the way.

Playing santon anywhere apart from defence is probably a good option at the minute. Even guti put a better performance in at left back (defensively) than santon has all year

I think his half hearted attempt of a clearance yesterday clearly gifted them a goal, something which has gone unnoticed due to the controversy that was in the game

Santon doesn’t lookcomfortable at right back. He made a big mistake trying to back heel it in the box rather than put it for a corner. The guy has great potential and will learn from his mistake. I do think he’d be better suited in a more attacking role though.

    Haha it gets funnier

Another cb pulls out of england squad and this time its Caulker who gets called up. I’m baffled

jamiemac.. could be a blessing in disguise. We would be up s@it creek without Saylor. He is to injury prone to be playing international. When our squad is bigger, good luck to the guy with international caps but now would be a disaster waiting to happen if he got called up.

It’s not about next season and whether we dont have Simpson.
I personally feel we should give the guy a decent contract.
As for Perch, inconsistent, not really a defender, better in midfiekd, but like Tiote attempts to impress, resulting in becoming too physical, giving away free kicks in dangerous areas.
As we are really not clear of the danger zone, lets field our best talent, which At RB is Simpson undeniably.
